An Uncommon View of Oahu
Feb 2020
We spent the morning at the Ma'o Organic Farm, sampling the sassy salad blend and getting to know up close the verdant farmland and birds of Hawaii. After lunch, we hiked a Hawaiian forest trail experiencing stunning overlooks and unique vegetation. Most of all, our guide Nathan was culturally and scientifically astute, making this the highlight of our Oahu trip.

Great vibe, loved it!
Jul 2019 • Solo
The whole day was pretty relaxed, no strict timing or rigid schedule which was great.
It was great to visit a local organic farm that supplies restaurants in the area with fresh, sustainable produce and learn about the programs they run to help bring the community together through education.
The lunch supplied was delicious!!! It was really nice to hike in an area that is not open to public, and that I wouldn’t have otherwise experienced had I not done this tour.
Thanks to our guide Peter, who was a wealth of knowledge and explained not only about history but also of the culture, the native plants, and their approach to contributing to a more sustainable way of doing things. Loved it!

We've been on multiple excursions with Hawaii Forest and Trail on the Big Island, but this was our first on Oahu. Kekai was one of the best and most informative guides we've had, his knowledge of West Oahu and Hawaiian history was great! Soon, the tour will include planting Koa trees to restore the native Hawaiian forests. We look forward to planting Koa trees on a future excursion! Mahalo for the great experience.

Kekai was the most experienced and intelligent guide I've ever had! Every question I threw at him (and there were quite a few) he answered instantly. The history of Hawaiian ecology he possesses amazed me. The journey from a sacred (Kapu) site that I was allowed to embrace via his native chant, to an organic farm that provided the greens to the restaurant I had eaten at the night before (Monkeypod), to the peaks of Oahu not open to the public was simply amazing! I highly recommend!

An Incredible Experience!!!

As a hotel concierge, we choose to work with the best company so we know our guests will be in good hands.
Hawaii Forest & Trail is probably one of the BEST tour companies we work with on the island.
They offer R/T Transportation from either Waikiki or Koolina area.
From the moment we got into the luxury Mercedes Sprinter van, we were being thoroughly taken cared of.
The Farm to Forest was such a humbling/soul-connecting experience.
We started off the day at Pokai Bay. You will learn about the history of the Waianae district. We then went and visited Kuilioloa Heiau! A sacred place which requires our guide to chant in Hawaiian (To ask for permission for entry). It was named after a great navigator from Fiji and had been a leaning ground for Native Hawaiians to learn how to navigate at sea.
The next stop was Ma'o Farm, possibly one of the most beautiful organic farms in the nation surrounded by the magnificent Waianae mountain ridge.
I absolutely LOVE their mission to assist local youth obtain their college education. As long as they maintain a good GPA while working at the farm, their tuition will be paid for. So far, they have 13 cohorts in which one of them got a Masters degree, and decided to come back to Waianae High to teach!
We then went to Kaahaaina Café which uses organic greens from Mao farms for their Sassy Salad (A must-have!) The view from the restaurant is STUNNING! and the food omg.... it was ONO-licious!
The grand finale ends on the exclusive hike up on Palehua!
Hawaii Forest & Trail got permission from the Gill family to utilize their property as part of their tour, as they share a common goal to educate visitors on the importance of preserving and sustaining native plants and species.
Hawaii Forest & Trail provides us iced water, sparkling water, snacks (the expensive non-gmo chips and nuts from whole food), bug spray, sun screen, hiking stick and Patagonia rain jackets.
Throughout the hike, our guide pointed out native plants like Koa and Lehua flower etc. and patiently explained to us their origin, their present states, and the future plans they have in maintaining their population.
It was truly an incredible experience! If you are interested in learning more about the history and cultural of our island, instead of just sipping Maitais all day at the beach, I highly highly recommend you to book with them today!

An Amazing Day.
Mar 2019 • Couples
This tour was one of the best tours we've ever taken. Nathan picked us up right on time and was very knowledgable, experienced, friendly and helpful. We were early so he took us up the coastline where we were able to see spinner dolphiins.
The first stop at the heiau (traditional Hawaiian temple) was the perfect start to our experience. The stop at the Ma'o farm gave us a good insight into a working organic farm. And the "Sassy Salad" was delicious! The final stop was an interesting hike where we saw amazing views of Honolulu, Diamond Head, mountains, valleys and the coastline.
Mahalo to Nathan and Hawaii Forest and Trail for an amazing Farm to Forest experience!
We'll be recommending this experience to others.

Amazing Experience!!
Feb 2019 • Friends
An awesome time with great people! First saw a sacred spot near waianae, then got to see an amazing organic farm with incredible people working there and an awesome concept. Got to pick fresh fruit from the trees and eat fresh veggies! Had an awesome lunch, and ended with a killer hike with unforgettable views. Our tour guide Nathan was so amazing. Feels like you're going on a trip with friends, he is so knowledgeable and loves to answer questions! Would definitely recommend this tour and this company!

Thoroughly enjoyed this .

I have lived in Makakilo for most of my adult life and never visited Palehua. The view of the west side of the island was breathtaking from high above as well as the view of Pearl Harbor to Diamond Head. I especially enjoyed visiting Ma'o Farms, as well as the restaurant where Chef Mark prepared our lunch and sat down with us to "talk story" We may be using his services in the future. I highly encourage this tour. Chauncey knew her facts about the area and provided so much more along the way. Mahalo Team!
