- 1Your 2-hour 15-minute hoverboarding adventure starts when you make your way to the front of the Honolulu Zoo in Waikiki and meet your local guide. After safety instructions and some practice, you’ll be off to explore the area with your small group. Put on your wireless one-ear audio receiver to hear from your guide about Hawaii's nature, history, and listen to nostalgic Hawaiian music as you hover from place to place. Starting in beautiful Kapiolani Park, you'll first learn to recognize some of the most popular flowering island trees. While taking in the impressive beach views, we learn why Oahu is known as the ‘birthplace of surfing’ from ancient Hawaiian to modern surfing. Listen to wonderful examples of uniquely Hawaiian instruments such as the slack key guitar and ukulele as we explore the historic bandstand, then smile for a photo at Diamond Heads most photogenic location. Hear about the island's volcanic birth, and learn how the fire Goddess Pele created it all! Stop near a little known prior human sacrificial temple location and learn about Hawaii's ancient Gods, Kings, Queens, and priestly Kahuna. Stop to look for Hawaii’s state fish the distinct Humuhumunukunukuapaa, and find out where the best spot to see giant 300-pound sea turtles is! Hover to the Waikiki War Memorial and Natatorium, then glide over the sand along a palm tree-lined pathway to a local favorite beach Kaimana. Take in the charming historic cottages and multi-million dollar mansions in the Gold Coast while learning about the architecture and real estate development of Hawaii. You'll next climb up the road to Diamond Head lookout and marvel at the panoramic ocean vistas, look for neighbor islands and whales in winter months, and point out hidden bunkers from Diamond Head's military history. Heading back we stop to sample some local snacks, see where one of the richest men in Hawaii in the 50's and 60's once lived, listen to nostalgic tiki pop culture comedy songs, and learn about Hawaii's first and last king's. Try to guess Hawaii filmed movies and TV shows from their soundtracks and finally, we glide with oceanfront views of Waikiki along beautiful Queens beach listening to famous Hawaiian music.
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- jstacy30720 contributionsGreat art workOur family had a great time going through Waikiki looking at the street art. Some amazing murals. Guide was very nice!Written July 6, 2023
- CAB5070 contributionsGreat way to experience something differentOur family of 5 went on a 2 hour gliding experience with Hawaii Hoverboarding to lower diamond head and back. Equipment was well maintained and with headset commentary to match with the trip timing we learned more about the area.Written December 15, 2022
- Rebecca B0 contributionsOwner not responsive to requests for picturesI booked this tour for my husband and I on November 25, 2022. The guy showed up ended up being the owner of the company. My husband doesn't have any experience with Segway/hoverboarding, so the guy let him do 2 turns and we were off. My husband was not afforded the opportunity to get even 5 minutes worth of practice prior to us taking off for 1-2 hours but he did do great with the little bit of practice time. The guide didn't tell us what we were seeing, he'd only talk if I asked him questions. He also didn't allow us many opportunities to take pictures but he took them with his phone. There were areas that I wouldn't want to photograph due to so many homeless people's camps and trash around. Still if I knew he wasn't going to respond to my emails requesting him to email us the pictures he took. I could've gotten a few pictures of us with my own phone. I have told numerous people about this and I hope they tell others because this guy doesn't deserve to thrive in business if it's ran so poorly. I even tipped the guy $30 for a poor tour, wish I hadn't now that he didn't keep his word in sending us the pictures he took. I'd never suggest this tour to anyone or take it again myself. I'm uploading the 1 picture I got.Written December 3, 2022
- gaylewilliams5550 contributionsA must do activity! From the moment we booked the tour, we felt comfortable that we had chosen well. Instructions on where to meet were crystal clear and the length of the tour was perfect. Most of all, we were so super impressed with tour leader Hernan. His amazing local knowledge paired with his terrific personality made the whole experience so enjoyable. Although we had done segways before, the machines here were more robust and Hernan made sure that all safety aspects were thoroughly ticked off before we began. During the tour he was so kind and thoughtful - taking numerous photos of us at locations and also making sure that we had enough water to drink. I cannot speak more highly of this tour, such a genuine wonderful person to have showing us the beautiful sights of Waikiki, thank you so much! I recommend it to anyone young or old.Written November 8, 2022
- 132669esy0 contributionsDifficulty Understanding The GuideWe have several segway tours. The segway (they call hoverboards) were fine and performed well. We enjoyed the sights that were on the tour. Biggest problem was the communication from the tour guide. He had pretty strong accent and we both had difficulty understanding him. After a while you just give up. He was a really nice guy but just hard to understand.Written February 20, 2022
- emptynesters010 contributionsNot what we signed up for.We had used Hawaii Hoverboarding Tours on a previous trip to Hawaii, and wanted to give them repeat business. It appeared that the original company has sold out, and the new company did not live up to our expectations. 1.) Upon arrival we were told our booking was for the next day, it took at least45 minutes to get this sort and on our way. After the tour I sent the company my reservation for the date we arrived and had no response. 2.) On our previous tour there was a cool audio of what we were seeing as we rode past. This was not the case with the new company. 3) When we stopped the guide barely spoke to us, and certainly did not share any info about the area. He took one picture of our group and never forwarded it to us as promised. 4.) We asked to pick up the pace of the tour as he was going really slow. Our request was ignored, probably because the unit he was riding was incapable to increasing speed. Disappointing as riding Segways is one of our favorite ways to tour a big city. Will be looking for a new company on our return trip in June. Hate to write a negative review but it was not what we signed up for.Written February 3, 2022
- Michael D0 contributionsNot as advertisedMy issue is that we paid for a Street Art tour and we did not visit any part of the Kaka'ako area nor did we see any street art. We basically started at the HHV and went past Magic Island and then doubled back. This is not tour we purchased. It felt like we were given the Japanese version of your other tour. Had taken a previous tour in May that was cut short due to a rider injury. Quality control seems to be lacking in the user experience. An ok experience but not worth what we received. Contacted the company with my concerns with no response or resolution. Photos taken by guide were subpar. We would have taken our own if we knew they were going to be that bad.Written December 30, 2021
- jmm14180 contributionsFun activity with beautiful sceneryLots of fun! First time on a hoverboard and the guides provided thorough instructions with plenty practice time before setting off on the tour. It didn’t take long to feel comfortable driving it. The route was very beautiful and scenic. Would highly recommend this tour!Written October 30, 2021
- CBaskinger0 contributionsFun TourAfter a brief instruction on how to maneuver the hoverboard, we were off to a really fun morning. This was a great way to see much of Waikiki and learn about its rich culture and history. The tour guides were very friendly and fun. This is a wonderful tour to see plenty of Waikiki in a short amount of time.Written October 26, 2021

- Jennifer C0 contributionsExcellent experienceOur tour was amazing, Dre, the owner, and tour guide was friendly, informative and enthusiastic about Honolulu. I would recommend this tour and give 5 plus stars. There were several stops for those who are beginners or those who need to step off and stretch their feet! I would book again if ever back in Honolulu. Thanks Dre for making our segway tour great.Written July 20, 2021

We had a wonderful time, our guide, Steve, made sure we knew how to ride and were comfortable before the tour began. Steve made our trip very memorable and enjoyable. He gave us a cool history lesson about the island along the way.
I hope to come back to the island and would take another tour with Steve.

Nice easy ride around the Diamond Head area. Guide was informative and easy going. Your was a good time with some awesome views of the beach and the city. Highly recommend for an overview of the area and an overall good time. Hit The Tiki Grille near the meeting point and loved that too.

We had a great time hover boarding with Steve on the evening Sunset Waikiki tour. From the moment you meet Steve you'll know this is a guy who isn't getting rich doing this - he's doing it because he loves it. That makes for an excellent guide and a great time.
Before I get into reviewing the tour, let me address anyone who's nervous or apprehensive about riding the segways since they haven't done it before. First, they are REALLY easy to learn and control. They are self-balancing and you get used to them quickly. Second, Steve started us out in a large open field and gives you very clear step-by-step instructions on how to operate the hoverboards. Then one-by-one he has you get on and use it with him right there to help you, making sure you are very comfortable before you ever leave on the tour. And lastly, he knows that many people who do the tour are first timers so he's not taking you on an extreme route with narrow drop offs. The route is lots of fun but simple and easy to maneuver.
Now on to the tour... We had a blast! Steve is a great guy - laid back and enjoying what he's doing so he makes the tour a lot of fun. You have earpieces so he can communicate with you while riding. Sometimes he'll play pre-recorded bits of info about the places your seeing and other times he explain stuff himself. It's the right mix of each and made tour much more informative than I thought it would be.
We saw a lot of historical and natural landmarks as well as some really amazing lookouts and views with great photo opportunities. Speaking of photos, Steve takes photos with his camera and then after the tour you get a link to download all those pics...for FREE! Not technically free since you pay for the tour, but we've all done those ones where they take pics then use them as an upsale at the end. Not Steve. See, told you he was a good guy. Any pics I'm posting that show us on the hoverboards are ones he took and shared.
Also you're provided one ice cold coconut water and some snacks along the way just to hold you over if you need it. They were all prepackaged into separate containers and were a very nice touch.
We really did have a fun time on the Segway tour. It was a nice way to spend the evening and a good value for the cost with excellent information and photo ops. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Oahu!

The day of our scheduled tour was raining with no break in sight. Steve called and offered to reschedule for the following morning, which we were happy to accept. The weather was beautiful the next morning and after a brief training we were off on our adventure. Neither my wife or I had ridden a Segway before but I found that I quickly adapted to it and felt very confident after a few minutes of riding. Steve was very personable and made the tour a very pleasant experience for us. We enjoyed seeing sights we hadn’t seen before and learning about local history. We also had many photo ops where Steve took pictures of us. My wife had so much fun, she wants to go again. I highly recommend signing up for a tour with Steve at Hawaii Hoverboarding where you’ll get more personal attention than with the larger companies.

Have done the "Segway"Honolulu tour before and the "Hoverboards" are better. Fat tires makes it possible to easily ride on trails, sand etc. Steve was great telling the history of that part of Honolulu. He even gave us snacks on the three rest stops. You will really enjoy the trip.

This was a fantastic trip! We started off being late (our fault) and Steve was super accommodating. He was also very patient with my elderly mom who required the occasional stop to rest her legs. He made the tour well worth our time while still making sure Mom could handle the activity level. We would highly recommend this to anyone who might be interested.

Riding a Segway in beautiful Waikiki, along the beaches, what more can you ask for. Waikiki Hoverboarding Tour owner, Steve, was very helpful and attentive. After getting us all comfortable with riding the Segways, we took off on our adventure. The tour route was all around Waikiki and up the coast toward Damond head. Steve provides everyone with wireless earbuds so he can play music and talk to you about the area as you are riding along taking in the scenery and amazing weather. We made several stops to rest and enjoy provided snacks and coconut water. Overall, the tour was very informative and fun. Highly recommended. Thank you Steve
