Andy did a great job! He was very patient and worked with each one of us beginners to make sure we were all able to get up. To quote my 10yo, “This is my favorite part of our vacation so far!” That’s after a full island tour, nature hike, a waterfall swim, and snorkeling. Wow! Way to go Suzy. Both our instructors, David & Zory, were awesome and had my kids 6 & 10 both riding their very first waves all the way to the beach! Best price around and 2 full hours was more than enough time to catch as many waves as we could physically endure. Definitely don’t miss this opportunity while on Oahu.

Jackie took great care of me and my teenager over the course of our 2 hour lesson. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and quickly transferred enough knowledge to get us up on our boards within 15-20 minutes. We were complete novices, but she made us feel like rock stars, and with each wave, gave us easy to understand and practical advice to make us continue to improve. I would recommend this to any first-time surfing family!

I came across Sunset Suzy on the Haleiwa Town website, as I was exploring the area where we booked our Airbnb. Surfing lessons were on our agenda, so I decided to give Sunset Suzy a try. We booked an early morning (8am) group lesson and ended up with a nearly private lesson on a nearly private beach! There were two instructors and two couples, so lots of 1:1 instruction and opportunities to catch waves! Our instructor was an accomplished competitive surfer and a patient, encouraging teacher who made us feel comfortable as first timers. It was a thoroughly enjoyable morning and a highlight of our trip.

Such a positive experience! Everyone taking the lessons was able to get up and surf, including the 8 year old. Instructor was enthusiastic and the turtles came out to greet us. The side benefit to taking lessons through Sunset Suzy is being on the North Shore. Great area.

I would like to give 10 stars to this surfing school.
It was just Magic.
I and my wife had ZERO experience about surfing and before going there, we were both uncertain if we can manage to do a complete motion within 2 hours.
Luckily, we met coach Lucho. Lucho was a super nice and experienced coach, he only spent five minutes on the beach to teach us how to stand up from the board, and magically, when we moved into water, both me and my wife managed to perform a successful surf within 20 minutes, just by following what he taught us on the beach. In the 2 hours lesson, I have performed about 5 times successful surf end-to-end, and it was realllllllllllllly satisfying.
Also, a big plus is, this place is really quite and waves are calm, very good for beginners.
A big big plus is, it's almost guaranteed you can closely see turtles here!!! We saw 3 or 4 of them.

Thanks to Suzy and her crew for a great first time surfing! My kids ages 15 and 10 were certainly apprehensive (as were the 45 yo parents) but that went away immediately when they stood up on their first attempt! Would highly recommend. The location was perfect and they have it down to an art. We also got to see several turtles which was a bonus! Thank you Suzy and crew- happy New Years! From the Florida crew

Suzy was amazing. There was the potential for bad weather so she was super flexible is reading the surf reports and moving our session. She scouted the area beforehand to make sure there were some turtles for us to see. Suzy was so knowledgeable and so kind. My family had a blast and my 9 year old is still talking about how it was her favorite part of our trip.

We had an amazing experience with our instructor, Lucho! He was so patient and there with us every step of the way for our first time surfing. Lucho and David were so thoughtful, they made sure to take us to a beach that had the best waves for beginners, even if that meant changing locations. He was so great at helping us feel comfortable, have fun, and experience catching the wave, standing up, and balancing to ride the wave, and continue improving. Would definitely recommend to anyone learning to surf. We will come here again next time we are in the North Shore!

We booked a 2 hour surf lesson for two adults and our 6 year old daughter. Suzy and her brother Matt were amazing. Matt rode tandem with our daughter and she had tons of fun as he was very good and patient with her. Suzy helped us catch waves and both gave us tips on how to surf. Very attentive and encouraging. Our first session that we booked was canceled due to bad weather, but we rebooked and had no issues after that. Good directions to the beach and communication was good. A very memorable, enjoyable day!
