- timberdale0 contributionsBest Sport fishing! Our guide Johnny was great and best sport fishing trip I've been on. Caught 2 mahi mahi and 3 nice Ohno. One was 40lbs. The only downside be aware if it's 45 min to the good fishing it will be 2hours rough boat ride back in.Written March 16, 2024
- chris91bel0 contributionsFun time with submarine scooterGreat fun, nice staff. Overall, it was a really fun activity. Time flies, but it feels that you have the right amount of time on the scooter. While you wait for your turn, or even after, you can swim or snorkel (goggles and fins are there for you, free of charge) We really recommend the tour. Absolutely worth the moneyWritten September 19, 2023
- nicholeo5520 contributionsAmazing experience! This was an awesome experience! So unique and we saw turtles and got to feed beautiful fish. Crew was fantastic! Super friendly and helpful. We had a few elderly folks on our tour and they were extremely patient and polite. Highly recommend! One note, you do have to buy photos if you want them but we thought it was worth it to remember the fun.Written May 4, 2023
- U6441VYmarkh0 contributionsBest Day Ever!It was by far the greatest experience I've ever had regarding any water tour event! Staff was awesome, I'm looking fwd to doing this again when I return. I wish u had the option too do it again, at a reduced price, while on board. I certainly would have done it again. Thanks for the great day! 🤙🏾Written April 21, 2023
- B7438CFevelync0 contributionsWaiting was 6 times longer than the ride itselfThey only have around 10 scooters and have about 50 people on board so 1.5hrs of waiting for your turn and 15 mins under the water. Great experience but the wait was way too long. Perhaps try not to overbook if you only have 10 scootersWritten March 23, 2023

- ashleyfU5518EH0 contributionsAmazingSuch an incredible experience! The staff are super patient and compassionate. This activity was a bit scary for someone like me, I'm not a great swimmer and I also have a panic disorder but the divers who accompanied me were so sweet and understanding, walked me through the whole process and checking on me the entire time. I strongly would recommend anyone do this activity, it's a once in a lifetime experience that my daughter and I will never forget.Written December 22, 2022

- Young C0 contributionsSuper fun but wouldn't recommend if you get sea sickThis was our first time doing the Submarine Scooters and although it was a lot of fun the water was very choppy and as a result my daughter and myself got sea sick pretty bad. Also doing the Submarine Scooter can be a bit nerve racking, especially for small kids because you have to dunk your whole head under water and swim into the dome. But once you're in the dome the scooter is a blast and the staff is super helpful and friendly also. If I did it again, I would definitely take sea sickness pills the night before and the morning of also. One couple didn't even get to ride the scooter because they were so sea sick they spent the entire time at the back of the boat throwing up. I felt so bad for them. The water was so choppy it was too difficult for my family to snorkel while we waited for the other people to take their turns on the scooter so we just sat on the boat fighting through the sea sickness. Luckily our family went first so when we went into the dome of the scooter we weren't too sea sick yet. But once we got out, my daughter had to toss her cookies as they say and she was not happy at all. So take your sea sickness pills if you need them and you should have a blast.Written November 10, 2022

- jonr800 contributionsPerfect half day of fishing off the coast of O'ahu! We booked a fishing charter with Captain John. We had a great time and caught one of the biggest Wahoo's (Ono's) Captain John had ever taken in the boat. He was friendly and attended to every need. Fish catch custom's are different than anywhere I'd taken fishing charters before. Island Water Sports filleted our fish for a small fee and we took home many meals of fish. Do check that wherever you book a fishing charter in Hawaii if that is something that interests you. Will book again when we come back.Written February 20, 2022
- cogema0 contributionsOne of the Best AdventuresIsland Water Sports Hawaii is a family owned and operated company in Oahu, and they surely treat you as family. The captain and the entire crew are amazing and provide a fantastic and truly memorable experience. They take one-on-one care of every participant, with competent confidence and great patience. Each participant has their own diver guide. It is especially suited for non-divers, non-snorkelers, you don't even have to know how to swim. The sub scooters are safe and steady and offer a unique subaquatic experience and encounter with tropical fish, turtles, and whatever may visit during your underwater time. Dear friends, for this Ohana adventure, Mahalo!Written February 17, 2022
- Cassandra B0 contributionsA Bit DisappointingI've done similar scooter adventures in other locations and was disappointed in this one. Previously, the tour operator would have a scuba diver swim in front of the group and guide the scooters in a specific area. When I first got into this scooter, there was no one or nothing in sight. I could not see other scooters, the boat or any of the divers so I was completely disoriented. I saw a lot of fish because they have a chain bag with bread or fish food in it that attracts the fish near you. Also, they had 10 scooters and 30 guests and we were in the last group, so it seemed like a long wait. We did some snorkeling during that time, but the waters were rough and there was a significant current, so even the snorkeling wasn't very pleasant. I wouldn't take this tour again unless they had a scuba diver actually guiding the group around so they would see something.Written November 13, 2021

I cannot stress enough how great and serene the experience is but …. We signed up for a dolphin experience and there were decide rly no dolphins. There were fish and turtles but no dolphins. I don’t know how it works but I’d you title your excursion dolphins there should be dolphinsWritten August 22, 2021

So when you book this, you must cancel 4 days in advance for a refund. I scheduled this in advance for day 3 of our vacation. The weather was not good on the day we went. Rainy, very windy, and high waves. The company does this regardless of the weather. Our experience was not good. The boat was rocking so hard, many people were sick, and while the scuba equipment was cool, we saw nothing under the water. The crew was great, but the company should really look into a better policy for the weather and allow people to cancel if the weather is bad. My advice is to not to book this in advance until you see what the weather is going to be!

Do NOT waste your money with this “local” company. I booked 4 months in advance and had a family emergency and within the midst of it all, forgot to cancel this tour. When I attempted to cancel, I was told I missed the 48 hour cancellation and was told if I wanted to rebook I could spend another $60 after spending $650 for the entire thing. (After saying this was ridiculous, they rudely offered to waive the fee as a one time exception). When I spoke to Michelle, a supervisor, she had the audacity to tell me that she didn’t think I was lying. When I told her I wasn’t sure I wanted to rebook with her company because of how rude and condescending her and her staff were, she told me “oh you’ll have a great time on the tour!” That’s great Michelle, but you were SO rude and awful and didn’t even touch on the subject of why I would rather lose hundreds of dollars instead of book with you again? Save your money and support better local businesses. And Michelle, I pray to God you never have a family emergency and someone has the nerve to tell you that they believe you’re telling the truth.

Just came back from the adventure, half of the people (about 30 ppl) were sick on the boat vomiting and seasick because the strong current and cold wind. Please note this time of the year is winter in Hawaii, the water was COLD with the high wind! The crew insisted that the water temperature is the same through out the year. You will be the judge. Everyone was freezing cold in the water (they said due to the wind) and even colder when we got out of water. Since they had only 6-8 scooter with about 30 ppl on the boat, it does take a long time. We sat in the boat for two and a half hour, I gotta say I won't do it again but I did have fun but like what other people said it was not a good experience for us. Crew was ok and the divers worked so hard so we still gave them a big tip and appreciate the hardwork they have done. If you decide to go, make sure you bring a jacket besides a towel to wipe off the water.

What can i say other than WOW!!!! FIVE STARS is not enough and i'd give more if i could because what an amazing experience the Submarine Scooter Adventure was. This is a MUST DO activity if you're visiting the island of Oahu and you won't regret it. My wife and i did this a few weeks ago in early June while visiting the island for our 20th anniversary. I saw an ad for this while browsing for things to do on the island and it looked like fun, and man was it ever. From the second you arrive to the second you leave, the guys at Island Water Sports are super professional, courteous and friendly. They make you feel very appreciated and welcomed. After everyone arrives and gets checked in, you take a short boat ride a mile or so out to sea where your adventure begins. The best part is you don't need any equipment or even know how to swim, they provide everything and are with you every step of the way. Once at sea, you take turns getting into the water and then with a quick breath, bob your head underwater and up into the dome of the submarine scooter. Once inside you can breath normally and just have to enjoy the ride. Because you go down 50 or so feet combined with the Submarine Scooter pumping air into the helmet area, your ears will pop and you have to manually blow them out by pinching your nose and blowing out to pop them. Plan to do this a few times in the 10-15 minutes you're under water. They put a compressed hamburger bun inside a metal mesh bag that's attached to the front of the Scooter and have you squeeze it to release small chunks of wet bun, which attracts all kinds of fish right to you. It's an indescribably amazing experience. Each scooter has a diver so you're always being watched and after your time is up they help you rise to the surface and guide you back to the boat. Once back on board, you can just sit and enjoy the views or grab some snorkel gear they provide and go snorkeling on the other side of the boat. You will NOT regret booking this activity!!!

Aloha and thank you very much for your positive review! Just to clarify the depth the scooters underwater is only 10-15 feet (like the deep end of a swimming pool). So you will only have to clear your ears once or twice. Mahalo and we hope to see you again!

I have participated in a lot of water tours on Oahu Island these days
Only this tour was so infuriating that there was no good experience and it was very offensive
First of all, from the captain to the crew, they have been ignoring and mean and seldom responded to your question.
Secondly, the order of launching was repeatedly delayed and said very soon, and did not give a clear time when to launch. It dragged and dragged and I became the last one and only gave ten minutes (the official website stated 20 minutes, most of the time wasted). Just watching and waiting on the boat.
Although I don't want to over-interpret it, the captain and crew are somewhat treated people differently. Not to mention that they greeted the white people with a smile, and to the Japanese, they would especially tell the crew to take care of them underwater.
Finally, the ten-minute underwater experience was probably about holding your breath for a long time. There are only two kinds of fish. The number depends on the amount of food in the bag in front of the machine. To be honest, snorkeling is much more interesting. . . This place is very inattentive when taking pictures, 8 messy photos plus 1 video charges $40😄
The only good thing is that this tour was only two hours that charged me $170. Totally regretted to attend this tour and not recommended at all.

We visited in August 2021 during COVID. They cleansed the inside of the helmets after each use. We told the crew we’re very helpful. We explained to them that my wife had weak legs and might have a hard time getting back up the ladder. They said not to worry we will help her. They got us in the water and someone stayed with each scooter the whole time to make sure we were all safe and comfortable. They got some wonderful photos of us and also video. We’ll worth the money. At the end they got my wife very close to the ladder and got her on it two crew members on the boat helped her all the way up the ladder. My wife and I had a great time. I scuba dive but she doesn’t this is the closest thing to diving for her. I enjoyed it because we got to share the experience. Can’t say enough great things about the captain and crew. They work hard getting people in and out of the water making sure the helmets are cleaned and not important everyone is safe. All crew are well trained and very capable!! Great Experience!!

We thought this was a great deal, great bunch for a crew lead by some senior type captain dudes and lots of very energetic young divers . The divers free dive skills are awesome and really showcased the marine life great, don’t forget your mobile, I sat there in awe for many minutes before I remembered I’m on a scooter…we also had a great bunch of patrons onboard , a guy from Boston helped me put my flippers on for snorkelling…like who does that….great family…Thanks bud .

The crew really made this great. We had done it before in Australia and the fish and reefs were more impressive there, but the crew in Oahu was super attentive and on the ball! They had a huge support staff and lots of divers watching mover everyone. Be aware there isn’t really any place to change or even really use the bathroom. So, if you have plans after you will need to find someplace to change. There is one small bathroom at the office and none once you are on the boat. Also, inside the scooter my husband found it quite loud which he really wasn’t prepared for.

I am a non-swimmer and I’ve never gone underwater before, so I wanted to experience it with the subscooter when I was in Hawaii. The captain, his crew and all the divers at Island Water Sports were extremely professional and very reassuring, and they made me and several other land babies feel completely at ease. I could breathe normally underwater and the food that was tied to the scooter attracted so many fishes. We even saw a sea turtle! They also took videos and photographs of us underwater which you could purchase after. It made for an awesome memory and I would urge everyone to purchase it! Those waiting for their turn on the subscooter could snorkel as well and snorkelling gear was provided. This was such an amazing experience for me and I would definitely do it again the next time I’m in Oahu. I would definitely recommend Island Water Sports for this subscooter tour!

First of all I only got to experience the scooter tour for 15 min or so. The operator never warned us that there’s extremely loud noise in the scooter helmet. Definitely not for people with phonophobia. I am ok with loud noise but my ears were almost deaf during the tour. You have to swim 10 feet ish from the scooter back to the boat. The guide for my scooter was very rude and yelled at me for clinging on to the scooter after the tour. I accidentally swallowed a gulp of sea water on my way out of the helmet and also can’t see anything since I don’t have any snorkeling mask on. I was terrified with salty sea water in my mouth, my nose, and my eyes. No one helped me swim back to the boat ladder and I had to kick really hard to get back. (I can swim in swimming pool, but has never swim in open sea and is thus afraid of it.) Also no one helped me climb back to the boat. I saw 1 sea turtle during the trip which is awesome. Other than that I only see a few fish which I can already see when snorkeling in shark’s cove. They use underwater camera to help you take pictures, and charge you 70 for the photo and video combo package. I definitely won’t recommend this tour to any friend. If you want to experience shallow sea water, go snorkel at two step in Kona. If you want to go deep to see more fish, go scuba diving with some nice coach instead.

No they will help you get on the scooter. People do snorkel before they get on the sub scooter, but you can stay in the boat till your turn to ride down.

How is it for claustrophobic people? & if your ears can’t pop is it painful?
Written August 10, 2022
Everyone will have different opinions about claustrophobia, but i didn't find it to be. The dive helmet of the scooter is large and has a large glass area so you can see out. Your ears WILL pop and will do so several times, but they tell you how to help alleviate this....essentially you pinch your nose and blow which equalizes the pressure. It wasn't to bad for me but bothered my wife much more. Overall though it's not bad and i wouldn't call it painful, just mildly uncomfortable until you pop your ears and equalize pressure.
Written August 31, 2022
I think it depends on when you go, but at least 15+ minutes, but definitely no longer than 20. When me and my wife went, we were the first two people into the water, so we were down there slightly longer (15-20 minutes) but some of the groups after us, seemed like it was 15 minutes max? Hard to say really because once down under water, you are completely immersed in the environment and with everything going on around you and all the fish, you totally lose track of time.

Yes, the office and boat ramp where you leave from is in a large commercial area with a supermarket style parking lot. There should be plenty of parking available.

Do the staff take the underwater photos, or is that only if we have a underwater camera in order to do that?
Written February 4, 2022
As others have mentioned, yes one of the divers takes plenty of photos of you underwater, even videos, which you can purchase later. Some people brought their own GoPro's to use, but it's up to you really. I didn't bring a camera and i'm glad i didn't because it would have distracted me from seeing the beauty around me and enjoying the experience.

I would absolutely LOVE to do this when we come to Oahu next year. I do have ear issues and was wondering if the submarine bubble that you place your head in is pressurized or how far down in the water do we go? Would there be a potential for this to bother my ears at all?
Written January 1, 2022
If you have ear issues, you may not want to do this because the submarine bubble of air where your head is located, is NOT pressurized and your ears will pop and will pop several times. They show you how to fix it, by pinching your nose and blowing to equalize the pressure, but it only lasts a couple of minutes so you have to do this several times to alleviate the pressure. You go down 40-50' or so underwater.

Hello. Can 6 year olds come along and stay on the boat? What is the cost for a 6 year old?
Written December 17, 2021
Is there a place to change clothes nearby?
Written December 16, 2021
Not sure, i didn't see anywhere to change clothes. Everyone that was there the day we went, arrived in swim gear / bikini's and brought their own towels. There is a McDonald's across the parking lot, so you might be able to sneak in there and change in the restroom but you dry off pretty quick after getting out of the water. As long as you bring a towel with you, you'll be fine. My wife and i just brought a couple from our Hotels pool area, then returned them later in the day.
