About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- garypU4807MF0 contributionsMaui Butterfly Farm is well worth a stopFun and educational for all ages. Only about 45 minutes, so short enough and enough hands on activities for the little ones. Enough in depth information from the knowledgeable guides to answer all questions for the older ones. Well worth a stop. (fresh smoothies next door also).Written January 1, 2025
- gregh8980 contributionsFun and relaxingThe grounds were lush and well taken care of, just off of the highway. The people running the tour were so friendly and kind. A low key tour, but very entertaining and relaxing. Our guide was very knowledgeable and funny in relating facts about the butterflies and their cycle of life. Would highly recommend the tour--very enjoyable.Written June 10, 2024

We had people in our group ranging from 20 yrs old to 60 and we all enjoyed it! Initially, we got to hold the caterpillers and to see the cocoons up close! They gave us bug spray to put on so we wouldn't get bitten by any mosquitos (we weren't bothered by them at all). They took us into netted enclosures, told us about the different butterflies, then gave us branches of flowers so the butterflies would land on them and we could see them up close! Suggest going in the mornings if you are there in the spring/summer as it gets really hot in the enclosures.

This tour was the most amazing experience with the grandkids, age 3 and 4. They loved it and the whole family held butterflies and learned about the praying mantis. Very educational and we took several pictures that we will cherish for years to come. My granddaughter just won a 2-1/2 year fight against leukemia and this trip was our celebration trip - butterflies were symbolic for children at the hospital and her taking flight from cancer - made the trip more meaningful for our family and we cannot express our gratitude enough for being able to share this experience.

Must see if you visiting Maui with kids. Knowledgeable guide who understood her audience and gauged the tour towards the younger children in the group. Great hands on experience! Fun for all ages in the group! Being able to hold caterpillars, butterflies & even a praying mantis was a memorable experience!

This was a first-rate experience whether for a family with small children or couples or families with older children. Highlights included hands-on opportunities to hold Monarch butterflies and Monarchs and other butterflies. Everyone in our group, ages 4 to 79, was easily successful in keeping butterflies on their fingers. The guide was superb. Her knowledge of butterfly lifespan and her easy interactions with everyone stood out. She made sure to remember the children’s names and to make sure they were doing things the right way. The timing was also perfect; 45-50 minutes moving through three different areas kept everyone engaged. We would do it again on our next trip.

We weren't quite sure what to expect here, but I love butterflies and have a butterfly garden in my backyard, so we thought it would be fun. Our guide, Laura first explained the life cycle of the butterflies and showed us the butterflies in the little net cages. We also got to gently touch some caterpillars. We then went into one of the butterfly "rooms" where she showed us how to dip our finger in peach syrup and then get the butterfly to stay on our finger. It was fun to be able to hold the butterflies. After that we went into another "room" where we held out flowers and the butterflies came and sat on the flowers. We enjoyed having the butterflies fly around us and land on the flowers. We had a great time here and would definitely go back the next time we are in Maui.

WOW this was excellent. Small farm, small tour, hands on - got to hold a caterpillar and a butterfly, learned all about them! Gorgeous flowers, great people, very fun 45 minutes. HIGHLY RECOMMEND especially with kids, the guide made sure all the kids got a butterfly to land on them and let them hold a praying mantis if they wanted. Well worth your time, a highligh of our tour.

I had the best time touring The Maui Butterfly Farm! Everyone working there is kind, knowledgeable & clearly very passionate about this labor of love. I’ve have been to butterfly gardens/preserves before but none as hands-on as this one. I would’ve spent the whole day there if I could!

I recently brought my mom to Maui for an early Mothers Day trip, just the two of us. I stumble upon this lovely little Butterfly Farm on GetYour Guide, and, given my mom’s lifelong love of butterflies, it was a no brainer for me to snatch up tickets. I’m so glad we did. What a delightful slice of nature heaven tucked into a random stretch of roadside farm stands and food trucks. We got to see chrysalises up close, eggs on leaves, gorgeous caterpillars munching away—and that was all just at the little tent and tables just inside the gate. There were chickens softly chooking around our feet as we wandered from greenhouse tent to greenhouse tent, surrounded by the heavenly scents of flowering milkweed and purple duranta blossoms. We were shown how to dip our fingers in peach juice and allowed to gently offer it to monarchs to have them climb onto our hands to feast. In another tent, we held tiny praying mantises and learned about the complete ecosystem they are striving to honor on their land. A third tent held swallowtails fluttering around our heads and alighting on the stalks of flowers we were given to carry with us, encouraging the butterflies to feed from our bouquets so we could marvel up close at their tiny feet (with tastebuds on the bottom!) and stunning markings. We were offered water bottles, packets of butterfly seeds, and even fresh mangoes off the gigantic tree in the yard (they get up to 80 per day!…and hand them out to visitors)…and we left feeling like we’d spent an hour in a meditative state of zen. Thank goodness for this place…these women…and all they are doing to care for the population of some of our most important creatures. And thank goodness they want to share it with the public. Highly recommend (and then you can grab lunch right there at the fresh farm stand and/or food trucks before you move on down the road!).

The Maui Butterfly Farm Tour is a great activity for kids and families. You get to learn about the butterflies and have the experience of holding and feeding the butterflies. The exhibit is a little small but it provides an intimate experience. I would recommend it. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it is somewhat pricey compared to other experiences on the island that last longer and have more to do. The juice truck nearby is a hit too - stop there for awesome $5 smoothies.

This activity is good for people who wants to learn more about butterfly life cycle as well as Native Hawaiian butterflies.
It's a less than hour tour of the farm. After that, you can go to the open market to the side for souvenirs and some restaurant to the side for breakfast or lunch.
The beach is a short drive away, too!

Do I need to pre purchase tickets?
Written March 28, 2022
Yes you need to prepunches them online. I scheduled early in the morning before it got too warm and it was a smaller group and perfect - just like VickiW1594 said above
