About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- fireball927710 contributionsShaka APP/Customer Service Failed this long-time user!First let me start by saying that I gave Shaka Guide a mediocre rating because I've had good service in the past. Recently however, in November 2024 my husband and I planned what was to be a very exciting trip...we were going to explore the national parks of Utah. I started buying the tour downloads early, so I'd have it all done by the date we arrived. We flew into Las Vegas and headed toward Utah; we'd wanted to do this for years. I had been talking it up, bragging if you will, that I had Shaka Guide tours for the parks just like we'd done in other national parks around the US. I opened the app in our room, the night before we were to arrive in Zion National Park. The app opened, I saw my tours, then the app closed automatically, and I had to reopen it. When I signed in, my tours were gone. No worries, right? Just reload the tours, there is a button for it after all. Nope, it wouldn't even consider it. The website showed all the tours I'd purchased...too bad I couldn't listen on the website I suppose. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled. Nope, the app opened my account, but tours weren't there. But still I figured I'd just contact customer service, and they would save the day. I explained what happened and asked that they contact me ASAP as I needed one of the tours the following day. Well, let me tell you what the great Shaka suggestion was to get my tours back. "When you open the app, you'll need to log in with the same user ID that you used to buy the tours." UUUmmmm, you don't say! You'd assume that might have said, be sure you are logged in correctly, then try this or that. No, that was the entire bit of help I received. I replied that I really needed help, not an insult to my intelligence. I'm logged in, I cannot reload my apps...they show on the web, can you help? Help never came. We completed our tours of the Utah National Parks and had a wonderful time. We didn't allow this to ruin the trip. So, for those of you out there who use this app, as I did before, check and recheck. Be sure your stuff is there well in advance. My money is spent, the website still shows my purchases, but the app, well it isn't interested in me at all. I uninstalled the app; I understand that Trip Advisor has guided audio tours too!Written December 6, 2024
- MCJAMTRAVEL0 contributionsAlways an Enjoyable TripWe spent a week on Kauai and did three of the four Shaka driving tours. We’ve used the app in Maui before and really enjoyed the tours, narration and secret spots. We would have never stopped at some of these hidden gems without the guide. It was and continues to continues to be our go to travel app when available.Written October 29, 2024
- 47SandraT470 contributionsApp is a scamThis app is a joke. App didn't work so we connected with support who told us to uninstall and reinstall app promising we wouldn't have to pay again. Guess what? We are being asked to pay again. Will never use or recommend Shaka.Written October 25, 2024
- PeggyZ150 contributionsYour New Biggest FanWe did the Shaka Guide of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and it was fantastic!! I can’t even count the number of times we commented during the day about how much we loved the stories, the tips, the advice. As a travel blogger, I use a lot of guides and I have almost never been this excited about something - I want to tell everyone I know. We would never have known the legend & lore, the fun stories that we heard from just exploring on our own or from NPS literature. It made the road trip through the park so enjoyable. Plus, the advice on which stops to skip, which to save for the reverse drive, etc. So incredibly helpful. I will use this on all future road trips where available.Written October 10, 2024
- Docaluci0 contributionsI wouldn’t travel without it! Made the vacation more fulfilling and memorable! We first fell in love with Shaka Guide in Hawaii! We were very excited to find they now had tours in the Smokey Mountains. Before purchasing I read the long list of other tours out west so I bought the entire collection. I haven’t been out west yet but plan to do so. The guide is very intuitive and knows exactly where you are at all times using gps, so gives instructions in real time, like turning in to outlooks or parking areas. Tips and stories about what you will see and about the area you’re visiting make the experience more personal. The narrator is personable and entertaining too! Personally I would plan my next vacation based on whether they have an audio tour available. Love Shaka Guide! More than worth every penny!Written September 25, 2024
- OnAir3203210 contributionsToo hard to useCould not figure out how to use it then it disappeared. I hope I get my money back. I wrote to them and had to wait days to get an answer, by then the ticket was gone. The features they said to use were not even available on my ticket.Written September 12, 2024
- Melinda R0 contributionsReally helpful for getting to know MauiSuper directions, great stop suggestions- from hiking trails, waterfalls, scenic views, to delicious food! I did most tours over several different days because there is sooo much to see and I wanted to do it all☺️. But I was also on Maui for 3 months for work and had the time.🥳Written August 14, 2024
- CarolynD11780 contributionsShaka Maui is the BEST way to see all Maui has to offerThe Shaka Maui driving tours APP was the PERFECT compliment for our Hawaiian vacation. We did the Road to Hana, Sunset at Halelakala and The West coast tour. When we were planning our trip these individual tours were an average of $200 per person for each separate tour. We decided to rent an off road Jeep and purchased the Shaka Maui tours. Saved us a fortune !!! The rental Jeep cost $400 for 5 days, from Enteprise and $20 for the APP. For the price of just the Road to Hana tour we were able to see the ENTIRE coastline of Maui at our pace !!! Guided tours have time limitations that we didn’t have because of the Shaka Maui App. It truly is the only way to see Maui !!! I can’t recommend this enough.Written August 12, 2024
- sheri8070 contributionsHighly recommend if drivingVery helpful tips ! Highly recommend. It gave us enough time to prepare for stops as they came up quickly . Comments were very helpfulWritten August 1, 2024
- joshfP1776GM0 contributionsA must have for MauiCame across this app on Trip Advisor and I cannot say enough good about it! It has completely changed the way we vacation. It is probably the most thorough, useful, and exact tour guide I have ever experienced (even including the live tours I have done!) I have done a few tours on Maui with this app and it never gets old. It has everything! Including: interesting facts between stops, exact directions to many well-known and less well-known stops, tips for navigating different roads, weather cautions, tips on scheduling out your time depending on when you start the tour, up-to-date food options and restroom locations, and to round it all out - chill island songs between locations! Seriously, the best money I’ve spent on Maui. I recommend it to everyone. Please make more tours for everywhere!Written July 30, 2024
- karwalkers0 contributionsDrive at your own pace and enjoy!!We used Shaka on Oahu for the Grnd Circle Island tour. It was a bit confusing getting out of Waikiki, mainly because there weren’t always street signs and there were occasional lags. But once we got going, it was an excellent ride. Sad that our rental car had to be back in Waikiki by 5 pm, so we had to skip some opportunities to hike or snorkel. We used Shaka Guided tours on The Big Island and on Kauai, and we thought the easiest ones to follow were on Kauai - but ALL of them have spectacular views, tons of great information re places to stop for restrooms or food and of course hikes, other activities, historical sites, waterfalls, you name it. We definitely recommend using Shaka, but advise that you familiarize yourself with the way the app works (he tells you).Written April 12, 2024
- catherines2750 contributionsROAD TO HANAI love Shaka!!! it is a great app. We learned so much about the area and history of the Hana side!! Did some great hiking up the Bamboo Forest and such. I will say this..... IF YOU HAVE a large vehicle stay off of the Road to Hana. We were pushed off (on the cliff side) by someone in a Suburban because they didn't want to move over. Learn the rules of the road. Mountain side moves over, not the cliff side. AND...The person climbing up the hill always has right away, the person coming down the hill will need to pull over the side or reverse should it be necessary.Written March 19, 2024
- kristindunlap20240 contributionsAwesome travel buddy on the Road to HanaWe used this for the Road to Hana and we loved it. From clear directions to quick summaries about stops, we thought it was engaging and funny too! The VO was conversational and told us about the history of different areas. When we came upon a stopping place, he let us know if it was worth our time or about how long it would take, if you needed reservations, if it was free or not and if they had restrooms. The app was very detailed and helpful. We wouldn't travel without it!Written March 8, 2024
- 415kend0 contributionsA tour guide in your backseat! We used this app in Oahu and Kauai . We rented cars and the app provided navigation guidance, narrated the highlights and history. It provides info for scenic stops, beaches, cultural, and local fare for a snack or lunch.Written January 21, 2024
- armska010 contributionsDownload now!We used Shaka Guide on Hawaii’s Big Island. IT WAS THE BEST!!! So helpful, informative, and fun. We were able to just relax and enjoy the ride. All while finding the best local spots. It made our vacation perfect. We learned a ton of history as well. We are so happy to see they have tours outside Hawaii and cannot wait to try them in the future. Thanks Shaka Guide for being our tour guide, it was the best trip!Written December 31, 2023

Using this audioguide made our trip so much better than it would have been if we had not purchased this. We had never been to Maui so we did not know the history of the Road to Hana and this made it very entertaining even for our nine-year-old.
We listened to it all the way there and all the way back. It even knows where you stop and start so you don’t get behind or ahead of where you’re located.
It also gives great advice and you can tell that some people don’t know all of the stops that he mentioned because some stops were less crowded than others.
This is perfect for a family and it’s funny and entertaining.

All of the Shaka guide audio tours were terrific! They were very interesting to listen to, full of great information and amusing stories. They were also very helpful with directions, telling us where to park and about hidden gems to do or see. We listened to them in The Volcano National Park on the Big Island and or our drive on Northside from Hilo to Kona. We also used them on our sunset trip up Mt Haleakala and the Road to Hana in Maui. Highly recommend!

Ok, this dude for sure doesn’t want tourists to make many stops. He tells you all this cool stuff but then says hey man don’t recommend as there is better stuff down the road! A little annoying because there really isn’t better stuff down the road. He also repeated himself about being nice and respectful to the locals, which is good to do, but almost gives you a guilt trip for being a tourist but apparently wants to make $ off you. I did like the history he shares.

I searched for hours reading up on something different to do that we haven't done in Maui. We decided on the self guided tour to The Complete Road to Hana. First off, the app is a little confusing and the music was like I listening to music when your put on hold. The stops that sounded fun, were not worth getting out of your car. We spent a total of $70 dollars for a 10 minute stop in 2 state parks just to use the restroom. I realize we are in Hawaii but the waterfalls back home in Yosemite National Park are 100 times better and bigger. For people that are scared of other cars, windy narrow roads...STAY OFF THE ROAD or be considerate and pull over so people can pass!!! On the site it shows tons of spots to stop at, well, a lot of them counted as a song. There are no parking spots to stop and take pictures of most of the waterfalls and the "lava cave" thats is only a small hole in a rock located on the narrow road at a sharp curve in the road would have been over looked if it wasn't for the group of people standing in the road almost getting hit. What topped it all off to validate that we weren't being just boring critical people was at the very last stop, the narrator basically said, " Thank goodness for great advertisement from a good marketing team." Nothing looked like any of the pictures that were advertised. 6 hours I can't get back and thank God it was only $20 and we were in our own car.

I am so happy that we chose to purchase this $20 Road to Hana tour from Shaka Guide. Without it, we would have missed so much and it would've been a completely different experience. Everyone in the car (me, my wife, and two teenage boys) were captivated for the entire 12 hours that we drove through the windy turns. This is absolutely a MUST HAVE if you are planning to spend a day in the car with the family.

Hello everyone and congratulations for your hard work towards creating one of the best app in the traveling industry. I’ve bought all the Shaka tours for the island of Maui in 2019 and we have already used most of them. In 2022 we visited Oahu and Kauai and we have also gotten all the tours for both islands! Forget the money because every cent was worth it! We have visited many parts of the world but we never had such a feeling of being on a real vacation as while going on your tours and listening along the route. You cannot find anywhere else a guide so complete for this amount.
The tours are funny, entertaining and full of information that would take many hours to read. We traveled with children and they had fun listening to Shaka. The apps are working very well and we were very happy using them. Good luck to the whole team! Daniel from Montreal, Canada

I would rate this a 5 IF it would have worked! No matter what the company says, this App will NOT Work on the road to Hana. You have to have complete cell reception in order for it to track your GPS. I did everything the company said to do by downloading it and using it prior to trip to make sure it would work and it did. But once on the Road to Hana, it could not connect with my GPS location in order to start the tour. However, I do plan to listen to it now that I am back home so I can connect the information with our Road to Hana Experience. We did complete the Road to Hana on our own, which I would do EVERY TIME! The ability to make the stops that we wanted to and climb waterfalls and blowholes ourselves was the perfect way to experience the Road to Hana with our activite adult family. I was also very disappointed that our Enterprise rented vehicle did not offer bluetooth connection, so even if the GPS would have worked, there was NO WAY to have been prepared with the non-blue tooth car rental. I would have brought the correct connecting cord! So keep all that in mind if you do purchase a Shaka Product.

We're sorry to hear you were not able to fully enjoy your Shaka Guide tour. Our app recently experienced some technical difficulties but we've managed to fix it right away. Wish you would have contacted us at that time so we could have made guided you in deleting the app and installing the latest version and made sure the app and tour would work for you.

We were so thankful that our car rental service (White Glove Car Rental) recommended this app for us to use on our drive on the road to Hana. It was our own personal tour guide while playing great music, telling great history and legends and letting us know all the great stops. We had to purchase the other trips it had as well and missed it when we weren't using it. Make sure you download the app and the tour your taking before heading out so that you don't have any problems when you lose service. I can't wait to use this app on the mainland as we used it multiple times in Hawaii on different islands.

We wanted to do the road to Hana, but in the comfort of our own car and to pick and choose what we wanted to see. My son finds typical tours boring, and I really don't like to be around strangers. Not to mention I get car sick very easily and I can only imagine being in some tour bus would have not been enjoyable.
Shaka Guide to Maui was perfect for us!!! It gave us all the information that a cheesy tour guide would have given us and let us skip what we did not want to stop for. The narrator was genuinely funny and very informative! The stories very interesting that he told. My son was intrigues and so was I. The back ground Hawaiian music was very relaxing and great to listen to. The guide was right on point with my GPS so it knew how far a point of interest was and warned us of the more dangerous turns.
The Shaka Guide is perfect for those that don't feel like socializing, those that have limited time, or those that just want to do a tour at their own pace!
My only complaint was a couple of times when we paused it do explore, it started at the beginning when we returned. But that was such a minor issue.

Is this tape available in Spanish or only English? We are going to visit Maui and one member of our group only speaks Spanish so we were thinking of getting this tape or the 6 in 1 tape for her benefit, however ate the last second we noted apparently these tapes appear to be in English.
