Overview
Take the plunge into a Maui adventure on this 6.5-hour, small-group, rappelling excursion. Join no more than 8 participants as you ‘learn the ropes’ of this exciting sport, discovering how to descend down the numerous waterfalls and cliffs found along the famous road to Hana. You’ll start on a dry 60-100 foot (18-30 meter) wall before trying a slightly-more difficult 30-foot (9-meter) waterfall. A refreshing dip in the waterfall pools and an included picnic lunch offer you a break in between descents. A guide and entrance fees are also covered.
What to Expect
Rappel Maui conducts daily guided tours at a dedicated rainforest valley location where adventurers 10 and older can experience the thrill of rappelling. No previous canyoneering or rappelling experience is necessary. Beginners welcome!

Tour Summary
You can either meet your guides in Central Maui or request hotel/resort pickup for an additional fee. The tour begins with a scenic ride down the famous Road to Hana to the rappelling site--a rainforest preserve about halfway to Hana. That's where you'll gear up in the harness, helmet, devices, flotation jacket, backpack and footwear we provide. You'll then take a short hike to your first rappel, a dry 60- to 100-foot jungle wall, where you'll listen to a briefing and watch a demonstration from one of your guides. After you practice on the dry side, you'll take a short walk to a 50-foot waterfall, take your rappel, and swim across a small pond. After that, you'll unleash your moves on a slightly trickier 30-foot waterfall. If weather conditions cause flooding in the streams and waterfalls, you'll use alternate rappel stations that are a safe distance from the watercourse. In between rappels you can enjoy the waterfall pools, take photos and enjoy the surrounding rainforest sights and sounds in this secluded preserve.

After a hike under the forest's green canopy back up to the top of the ridge, you'll enjoy a picnic lunch among forest and ocean views. Before boarding the van for the ride back to Central Maui, you can dry off and put on some dry clothes in the privacy of a changing room. The total time of the tour is approximately 6.5 hours, including round-trip transportation.

What's Included
Included in the tour is transportation, all rappelling gear (including footwear), picnic lunch, snacks & bottled water. Your guides will carry insect repellent wipes and hand sanitizing gel, but not sunscreen.

Considerations and Details
  • Maximum group size is 8. (Ask about special private tours for large or small groups.)
  • There are two guides for every group of 8 participants.
  • Total hiking distance is about 1/2 mile, with about 400 feet of elevation change.
  • The maximum elevation reached during the tour is on the way to the site, and is an elevation of approximately 800 feet above sea level.
  • Private changing rooms and toilets are on-site, with a bathroom stop along the way, if necessary.

A really fun time, but a bit overpriced IMO

Let me start by saying we had a blast! The instructors were fantastic and it was a really fun afternoon spent learning something new. My only complaint was that, compared to the lots of activities we have done in Hawaii (ATV, surf, helicopter, scuba, kayak,...More

Aloha, and mahalo for sharing your experience! It's not just rewarding for your guides to get indoor climbing enthusiasts to the wilderness, but you also saw a part of Maui that a lot of people don't. A hui hou (until we meet again) and safe...More

Had a great time in the forest

Our guides (Genoa and Elena) are professional, skilled and hospitable! The lunch was extremely rewarding after challenging the fears of my life: height and water. We enjoyed the activities and the view in the forest.

Excellent but not a stroll in the forest

This is a great tour and this company puts safety first. There are lots of procedures they put in place to ensure the safety of the guests. It’s great fun and we rappelled down three different areas. 40 feet, 100 feet and maybe 60 feet....More

I believe there are two options, an extreme and a regular rappel. The extreme does more climbs and rappels but you can always call to be sure. We did the extreme and I believe if you are in good physical condition, you will... More
