- Carolynmv00The wind may ruin your sunset/celestial cruiseThe wind made this a miserable trip. This trip should not be sold if the wind is consistently as bad as it was on our trip, which it may well be. For probably 70% of the time we were staying under jackets/hats against substantial winds. It was also irritating that they ask for food preferences, but simply apologize that they have nothing for you. When we could hear the commentary over the wind it sounded like it would have been interesting if it was possible to hear the whole story.
- QueenMac7500Wonderful and Colorful time 👍👍Our family made a quick trip to Maui over Labor Day weekend. We caught the first boat tour offered after the horrific fires hit the islands west coast. The trip was amazing and the tour guides were very knowledgeable about the different fish and species in the crater and at turtle town. The kids (21 and 12) loved having a GoPro camera to film underwater too. The lunch offered was a teriyaki chicken sandwich and both kids had seconds. They were not fans of the bean and Mac salad but they are picky eaters (aka British) 😂 At first I thought the price was a bit steep (I’m from Florida) for a snorkel trip but after going in the water it was definitely worth every penny. My husband got to see the sea turtle, but I didn’t during the trip… but I did see one behind our Haycraft Park condo swimming about 10 feet from me!
- nathanielb55900Poor CommunicationWe were scheduled to go on a snorkeling tour on August 14th. In light of the Lahaina fire (5 days prior), the tour was cancelled so that PacWhale could take supplies to fire victims. I totally understand and have absolutely no problem with this response. However, they completely neglected to let us know that they had cancelled their tours. We showed up to the harbor on the morning of the 14th to find that it was cancelled. When I called to make sure that it was in fact cancelled, the lady I spoke with was not friendly and acted as if I was an inconvenience. I understand that they had shifted their focus and were working to deliver supplies to family, friends, and community members. However, an email, text, phone call, social media post, or even a sign in the window...anything that mentioned they were no longer running their snorkel tours would have been appreciated. As a business, you have an obligation to both your community and your customers; especially a business that relies on tourism. I'm not rating a 1 star because our tour was cancelled, I'm rating a 1 star because there was a complete disregard for customers and the customer service response was less than ideal.
- lindakE1384LI00Boat ride + snorkeling + dolpinsOur family of 6 (kids aged 4-10) enjoyed this excursion the week before the Lahaina fires. We are so sorry to hear of all the loss and look forward to the day when this will hopefully be offered again. When it is, I'm not sure if this will be exactly the same but wanted to share our experience for those who are considering this in the future: I would recommend this tour for those who are interested in a boat ride, dolphin watching, and snorkeling, as all 3 are included. I would not necessarily recommend this for someone who just wants to go snorkeling, as snorkeling was only 1-1.5 hrs of the 5-hour tour. My husband and a few of my kids were feeling motion sick, and the boat spent a lot of time cruising around the island, so that wasn't the best for them, but if you enjoy a good boat ride, it's perfect! We did find a wonderful pod of spinner dolphins, which was amazing. The team onboard was very knowledgeable and made it really fun for our kids. Thank you, and our prayeres are with Lahaina's recovery!
- N4291EVdaniellec00Amazing experience! My two children (10 & 12), husband and I went on a snorkeling excursion to Honolua Bay on 7/28/23 and we thoroughly enjoyed our time on the catamaran! Captain Chris, Stevie, and Des were excellent, informative, and entertaining. Breakfast and lunch were great and the ocean scenes were breathtaking. We saw sea turtles and many fish and will forever cherish our experience. I highly recommend this adventure to anyone who is looking to snorkel in Maui!
- nathanger0011 of us (including 4 kids) had an awesome experienceWe had an awesome experience snorkeling with PacWhale Eco Adventures! There were 11 of us including 4 kids (ages 4 to 8), and we all had a great time. The water was crystal clear at Molokini, and we saw turtles at the second stop. I'd highly recommend PacWhale based on the snorkeling adventure alone, but then you throw in the marine conservation they do your dollars, and it becomes no brainer.
- capitall2100Wonderful Sunset Cocktail Cruise! We decided to book this trip for our party of 10 adults, which included my husband and I along with our 4 adult kids and their significant others, for our last night on Maui. We did the Sunset Cocktail Cruise, from Ma'alaea. Everyone had a wonderful time! It was a Friday evening and the sunset was gorgeous, the cocktails delicious and hors d'oeuvres substantial. My only warning is that traffic from Kanapali area was absolutely terrible and we almost missed the cruise. I called to let them know we were stuck in traffic, but we made it with about 2 min to spare. The staff was professional and the boat was clean and well maintained. Everyone really had a great time and it was a beautiful way to finish up our trip. I hope to make a return visit and book again with PacWhale!
- MREBOUD00Dolphin watch from LahainaWent on a Dolphin watch cruise with Pacwhale in July on their sleek new boat the Ocean Legacy. Staff was awesome and we learned a lot from the naturalist. We were lucky with the dolphin encounter and got to see a mom and her baby dolphin.
- Sara E0010 stars!!! Only company I snorkel with in maui!!!Hands down if you are only going to do one snorkeling boat trip on Maui, you want to learn anything interesting or cool and see some great wild life Pacific Whale Foundation is the only ship to choose. Pac whale foundation is the only snorkeling company I choose to do when I am visiting Maui. I have been to maui over 20 times and I have snorkeled on many different charters. This company exceeds all of my expectations every time. The captain and staff were and are always friendly, knowledgeable and fun! pac whale foundations boat is very clean and equipped with clean bathrooms, sunscreen that is reef safe that you can use and sometimes they have left over foo. They also make the Pacific Northwest ocean a cleaner environment for Hawaiis marine life and explain how they do so. They always attempt to take you to the best snorkeling spots ever ( even in choppy conditions) the trips they provide never let me down. I can’t stay that about any of the other excursions from other companies. 10 stars!!
- 70jeannez00The Best! This is the trip to go on and the company to use. I’ve gone on many snorkel trips around Hawaii, Cayman Islands, and Mexico. This company was the best! They care about safety, education, and guest experience. We couldn’t be more impressed. Thank you!
- apfsel202300Dolphin Watching TourThis experience was everything I hoped it would be! We were so lucky that we saw dolphins immediately and they were right next to the boat. They were even playing right next to us! It was a dream come true and the staff was extremely knowledgeable. The food was great too, we even got a bonus and saw some flying fish!
- dotnorris100Lanai Island SnorkelWater was clear, people were polite, crew was ready to help and food was ok. Beautiful island and the dolphins were entertaining.
- angelak57500Molokini & Turtle Arches Snorkel TourWe went on Ocean Voyager and did the Molokini & Turtle Arches Snorkel excursion. The crew was awesome. So helpful and knowledgeable. Ash even found some ones wedding band that had fallen off at the crater! I felt totally comfortable and safe at all times. My kids (15 and 19) had a great time too. No turtles at the Turtle arches, but that didn't change the fact that we had a great time. Happy to be supporting an organization that's so dedicated to improving the marine life.
- Cruiser5560020202200Honolua Bay SnorkelGreat trip. We have been to Maui many times and done a few different snorkeling tours. I would rate the morning snorkel to Honolua Bay up there with the best of them. Forget Molokini too deep, rough and you see nothing. This is a calm protected bay. Captain Dan and the crew were outstanding. Lunch was great and smaller group is the way too go. Also we were under sail back to Lahaina, outstanding !
- Irishman1200Don't Miss This While You're In MauiThe crew and the scenery are what made this tour so great! The staff is exceedingly friendly, attentive, and treats you like family. Plus, you snorkel 2 different areas and breakfast and lunch are provided. A wonderful and relaxing day where all of your needs are met and exceeded. I highly recommend this tour!

Such an incredible tour! Our family of 5 went on a 9am tour and we were all so impressed by both the guides and the overall experience. The naturalist who was providing commentary for most of the tour, Kate, found the perfect balance between entertaining and informative, and was great at getting people on the boat involved and asking questions. We loved that alcoholic drinks, coffee, and snacks were available to purchase on the boat, and we were glad we rented a few pairs of binoculars from the gift shop before we left. (The gift shop is amazing!!) What we appreciated most was the focus on the safety and preservation of the whales. There's an emphasis on how our ticket price goes towards research and outreach, and the boats always strive to maintain a safe distance from the whales. Cannot recommend highly enough!

This is the third time we have taken the 6:30am Whale Watch trip. It has yet to disappoint. PWF does a nice job taking you to see and educating you about the whales. We were on the Ocean Guardian this trip with Mikayla as our naturalist. We were able to view whales the entire 2 hours and she did a nice job explaining their behaviors. We prefer the early morning trip because you have a better chance of smoother water and you get to see the sunrise. Here are a few photos from our whale watch. Well worth the price in my families opinion.

We joined "Odyssey" for a 3hr whale watch and were almost no sooner out of Ma'alaea Harbour when our captain cut the engines because a mama humpback was playing with her calf right in front of us.
"Odyssey" is a specially designed vessel for whale-watching with tiered seats at the front and plenty of space on both decks, so everyone gets a great view. And, OMG, were we blessed!
Mama and calf chose to relax, have fun together and just hang out with us, choosing to play within 20yds all around us for over an hour. Mama even rolled on her back with her flippers spread wide, sunning her belly as much as to say, "don't you just love feeling this good!". Our crew were as blown away as we were, so excited! And when mama & calf eventually left us, others were active around us, so it didn't stop.
Our crew and naturalists were highly professional, knowledgeable, and very welcoming, not only sharing great information about Hawaii's wildlife, but also the history of the islands, particularly Kaho'alawe island & its restoration to the Hawaiians. And the 40 years research and conservation work the Pacific Whale Foundation have been doing is amazing and so worthwhile.
Add to that an excellent buffet lunch, the brightest sunshine, the clearest deep blue ocean and the gorgeous backdrop of Maui, Lanai, Kaho'olawe and Molokini, and you have a fantastic, unforgettable experience.
Such a privilege to participate in a truly wondrous experience! Thank-you so much!!

I have been to Maui multiple times, and the highlight of my visits are usually the boat trips. Due to covid reduced capacity, the boats are filling up quickly, especially the smaller ones, which I prefer, so make reservations early. The only availability during our stay was on this boat. Known for being educational, this company does not disappoint on that score, as the boat went right to where the whales were, and the accompanying info, along with getting to hear the whales, was informative. Very cautious with sanitation, as no buffet so the food is doled out to you at your seat, drink orders are taken and delivered to your seat, all servers wear gloves, and boat is at half capacity, so everyone spread out. It would have been better if everyone was given a bento type box with each food offering, rather than having servers bring each item individually. Just a thought!
As far as the food, though, it was a disappointment. I could see the staff throwing away full plates of food when cleaning up because the quality was so poor that the food went uneaten. Cold, half cooked spring rolls and something that was labeled chicken, but was an unrecognizable mystery meat. The pulled pork sliders were good as was the fresh fruit. When I requested more fruit from the server, I was ignored, so in case you were wondering why you did not receive a $ tip, my tip to you is don't be chintzy and ignore requests. Have $20 cash ready at the end of the trip if you want to purchase a photo of your party boarding the boat. Pacific Whale is a nice foundation, but the least favorite boat trip of all the trips I have taken over the years.

Thank you for coming out with us to see the amazing humpback whales. We appreciate your taking the time to provide your feedback about the experience. It's certainly been very challenging to operate at 50% capacity per Covid regulations to ensure proper social distancing and doing everything in our power to ensure the healthy and safe of both customers and staff during this time. We apologize if these regulations impacted your enjoyment of the experience, and that you were disappointed in the food quality during the whale watch. I welcome you to reach out to me directly at johngaskins@pacwhale.com if you feel that you didn't receive fair value for the experience.

Within 10 minutes of leaving the harbor, we watched a large group of whales - a mother and baby, followed by a group of male whales "showing off." The whole experience was narrated by a biologist and. with the binoculars we rented from Pacwhale ($10) we saw everything close up. (We could have still seen a lot without binoculars). Got some great videos.

Our 2 hour morning tour yesterday, 3/11/20, was absolutely remarkable. Aaron, our captain, and Laura, our biologist and narrator, were great tour guides and took us to a spot out in Maalaea Bay toward Kaho‘olawe island. We sat quietly for an hour while whales were surfacing close by, spouting, and swimming under and around the boat. Unbelievable! One younger humpback stayed within feet of the boat for nearly an hour, surfacing to look at us, performing a gentle ballet so we could see this huge mammal up close. The videos we took are spectacular. Lauras narration and vast knowledge (and ability to answer questions) was impressive. The Pacific Whale Foundation is a treasure on earth in allowing us to see these beautiful animals up close while saving and improving the lives of the these whales. I will go every year I can. Don't miss the chance!

We did the sunrise whale watching with Pacific Whale and were very pleased with our choice. Pacific Whale is top-notch, with a spacious boat that provides both indoor and outdoor sitting/standing areas, including stadium-style seating. Our "narrator" during the cruise was great. She spoke very well and offered great insights. We chose Pacific Whale because of their responsible tourism accreditations (including GSTC). We saw plenty of whales on a lightly-populated boat with few other boats around to obstruct our views. Highly recommended!

We are Maui locals and have been on several trips with PacWhale over the years. This was our first trip during the pandemic though. The vessel was booked at only 50% of capacity, seating was assigned (you were allowed to move around in the vicinity of the assigned seats), the boat was sanitized before boarding, and rails were also sanitized during our 2 hour trip by a crew member.
Everybody wore masks at all times!
Especially appreciated that they now start the trips with an Oli (Hawaiian chant) before leaving the harbor.
We got lucky with incredibly calm waters and saw a dozen(!) humpback females with their newborn calves on our 2 hour trip. We even got "mugged" twice!
A male was so close that we could hear his song through the boat, just by putting our ears on the rails! Amazing.
Lizzy, the naturalist, was a wonderful educator and story teller.
The entire crew was excellent.
It was our favorite trip yet.
Weʻll be back! Mahalo PacWhale!

Before booking this tour, we did lots of research and watched whales from the whale lookout point several times, we were very impressed how many whales in Maui, so we decided to book a tour to see them closer. The only option we have for Jan. 1st 2021 is 2:00 pm, we were not sure if it’s a good time but they said whales can be seen anytime, so we booked this tour anyway. After around 40 minutes ride, we saw a splash, they said that’s a whale, but it disappeared very shortly. Then we wait and wait, nothing else. I totally understand the captain can’t control if whales are nearby or how many we will see, but I’m very disappointed that he even didn’t try to search whales somewhere. Then we back to the harbor at 3:50pm, less than 2 hours tour time they promised, because they have to start another tour at 4:30pm. I and my husband spent $85 and two hours just for a splash. Totally not worth it, I’ll just go to the whale lookout point and see many more whales as longer as I want.

The young guy (sorry I forgot your name) doing all of the narrative was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. His daughter's 4th birthday was that day. He walked around later in the tour and answered tons of questions. We saw quite a bit of action along with some dolphins too. Any age person would love this.

yes...the stairs are minimal and the staff are wonderful and very accommodating.
You also have the option to stay inside but can open the window with noone standing in front of you. Hope you have a wonderful time!
