- Rhwall5120 contributionsWhat an amazing way to get spectacular views of Maui!Doing a trail ride at Circle M Ranch is an amazing way to spend the morning! I had riden a horse before, but only a couple times. The wranglers gave such an informative lesson before I got on my horse, Tex, that I felt at ease as we got on our way. What a unique way to see a part of Maui I had never seen before. It was breaktaking and relaxing at the same time. Highly recommend!Written March 7, 2024
- Nomad159847532010 contributionsUnique Island ExperienceThis tour takes you away from the tourist scene and shows you the beauty of the island in a way you won’t see unless you experience it on horseback. The ranch was beautiful and loaded with many different, interesting animals. Each horse has their own personality and the guides do their best to pair the rider with the horse best suited to them. They take time to educate riders on safety and the history of the ranch and island.Written March 27, 2023
- DannyWasserman0 contributionsGreat place for the Kids !!This is a unique area on the isle of Maui and we are glad we stopped by. You get a good view of the ocean side and can ride horses and visit what its like to be on a ranch style seting.Written December 22, 2022
- FrequentFlier460050 contributionsGorgeous views. Chance to gallop!I was graciously accommodated when another ranch cancelled at the last minute. Second ride with them. Excellent leaders.Written December 7, 2022
- richyamedina0 contributionsNo Customer ServiceI really wanted to visit to recommend this location but the communication on their end was poor. We had booked a trip with on a Friday afternoon. The previous day was heavy showers and assumed that our reservation would be rescheduled or canceled due to the weather. We got charged full price but luckily booked with our credit card company. Please aware of their non flexible policiesWritten September 30, 2022

- cdombey490 contributionsBeautiful country, great views - excellent guides. We booked a trail ride at Mendez Ranch for our last day on Maui. My wife , grand daughter and i climbed aboard the well behaved and well seasoned trail horses and were lead through some of Maui’s beautiful mountain country by two expert and personable guides, Larry and a transplant from Pennsylvania whose name escapes me. They were both great. This is a fun ride, even for those with little experience with horseback riding.Written March 22, 2021
- cadenc840 contributionsGreat time! This is an awesome ride! If you get Larry, you will be in great hands! Highly recommend it for friends, family, and kids!Written March 11, 2021
- 170brandonf0 contributionsA fun ride and will do it againThis tour is on the Mendes Ranch, its 300 acres on the north (slightly west) part of the island. You get to ride horses on a trail that takes you along the coastline. You will get unbelievable views, farm animals (ie cows, chickens, pigs, peacocks, etc), and a nice easy ride. I have done this tour on several trips, I have been with people that are very high level riders and complete beginners. The guides are great, they have a variety of horses that can fit any rider level. If Butch leads your tour, ask him for some passion fruit. He will pick it for you from the trail.Written December 13, 2020
- 821karaleeb0 contributionsFantastic! We had a fantastic ride at this ranch! Butch and Larry were great guides. The horses were all very nice and well cared for. Can’t beat the views!! I especially enjoyed the two chances to run my horse :). Others in my group chose not to and that was fine too. Overall great experience and highly recommended!Written November 9, 2020
- amynve200 contributionsGreat riding experienceWe did a morning ride with Larry and he was absolutely wonderful. We had advanced riders and beginners in our group and the horses were perfectly paired to us. Gorgeous scenery and thoroughly enjoyed it!Written October 24, 2020
- Naomi G0 contributionsHappy riders. We had a great time on a morning ride. Although relative beginners, having only done a couple of trail rides, we were well taken care of and were given horses with a little personality, but we still felt confident. Our nine year old had a great time, even being able to run his horse a little. The scenery was beautiful, it took away any apprehensiveness I might have had as it was so lovely. Our guide Trevor was authentic, and our horses looked well cared for and happy. Even though I didn’t think horseback riding was for me, I’d do this ride again next time we come.Written February 22, 2020
- Glenn S0 contributionsBeautiful place for a trail ride!Mendes ranch is situated in one of the most beautiful places, with views of the coastline of Maui. The wranglers were real cowboys and you have an option of the horses running for two short stretches of the ride (only if you want to). If you're into horseback riding, this is a great place to do it!Written January 1, 2020
- packmybagsreadytogo0 contributionsA fantastic horse back ride through some beautiful scenery. One of the best experiences we had. Small group, great guides and beautiful scenery. AND we got too gallop. Stopped for photo shoots. I highly recommend this ranch for riding.Written November 15, 2019

Absolutely breathtaking! When I die, Heaven will look like the views from the Mendes Ranch! Butch & Larry were SO FUN and took the best care of us. I took my 11 and 9 yr old boys and they can’t stop asking when we get to do it again. My younger son was terrified about riding a horse, I mentioned this to the guys and they went out of their way to encourage him and make him feel comfortable. By the end of the ride he was ready to live at the ranch! Larry greeted us with enthusiasm and explained everything in a way both youngsters and adults could comprehend. Great sense of humor! Very professional and extremely cautious following all COVID profiles to keep our group safe. Way to go Mendes Ranch! We can’t wait to come back for our next ride!!!

I rode Little Foot with Larry as my guide and it was an enjoyable afternoon. I was lucky enough to be the only one! (Business still picking up from COVID-19 restrictions being lifted). Cloud cover made the temperature perfect, if it’s a sunny day dress appropriately as the trail is mostly exposed. Spectacular views that are unique since the Mendes Ranch is privately owned. Larry gave a history lesson as we rode. If you are nervous about riding or heights I’d recommend making sure your horse doesn’t take off in the running spot (it’s mostly all walking), but they match you with a horse based on riding experience.

My husband and I did this tour to kick off the start of our honeymoon. The views were spectacular and the guides were really nice! What makes this 4 stars instead of 5 are two things: I think someone else wrote a review on Big Red, the very cute horse that happens to be very stubborn. My husband was assigned to Big Red so he was significantly far behind me the entire 2 hour ride so I didn't feel like we were really there together. Also, there were 14 people on the tour so definitely some moments of patience were required. I think maybe capping at 10 people would've been perfect. But with that being said, I would absolutely recommend this tour for the views and the cute animals (peacocks, birds, cows, pigs, goats). Also was cool riding a horse for the first time in a decade! They go quite slow so perfect for beginners!

From beginning to end, we loved our time here. The ranch itself is full of all kinds of animals and fun things to look at. The trail guides were just what you would expect from real "cowboys". They were kind, patient, courteous and very helpful. They also had great senses of humor which made the ride that much more enjoyable. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a trail ride in some absolutely breathtaking scenery.

The location of this ranch is so beautiful. The views throughout the ride were stunning, - that alone is worth booking the morning ride. We visited on 10/27/21 and had an amazing time. The horses are so used to the trail and very well behaved - it was my fiances second time ever on a horse and he felt safe and confident! The guides match you with your horse based on ability and from what I could see they did a great job with it. The trail itself is very steep and you go down and back - so there isn't much time at all riding on flat land which was my only negative ... a tradeoff for the views. They provided water and other cold drinks for the ride along with a saddlebag to store them in.

My husband and I went on this horseback riding experience today. It was a bit of a trek to get there but it was so worth the time and the expense. I ride horses twice a week so I was able to look at this offering from an experienced Riders point of view. The team lead, Don, started out by giving us a 10 minute tutorial on how to effectively ride a horse. His discussion was outstanding and I have never seen a better tutorial in any horseback trail ride I've ever taken. Mendez Ranch then broke up the people into Advanced riders, intermediate Riders and beginners. They had three Trail people going out each dedicated to one of the groups. Don led the advanced Rider group, Daeja led the intermediate group and Jordan led the beginners. Midway through the the ride, we stopped to catch our breath, take pictures, drink water and Jordan then gave us the history of ranching in Hawaii. It was very well done.
The scenery is outstanding! I signed us up trying to have us ride along the coastline and yes indeed that is what you get. You don't actually go down to the sand in the water because that's impossible, the ranch is on a cliff overlooking the sea but you get nowhere near a cliff. The ride does take you down some steep areas and then back up again but the team matches the horses with the Rider's experience level. There were 14 riders in our group with four in the advanced group and all the rest in intermediate and beginner. They were very friendly from the very beginning of the experience to the end. The manager Teri signed us up initially and she was involved through the entire thing. My husband is not an experienced rider and they made him feel very comfortable mounting and dismounting. They also matched him with a horse that suited his riding level. I highly recommend this wonderful experience for anyone of any level who wants to ride a horse in Maui.

My 7 and 8 yos and I took this trip during our vacation. My daughter is into horses. My son is ready for anything. We liked it. The horses were well cared for and the 2 guides knew them very well. I liked the trail as it was challenging enough of my children to enjoy but I didn't worry about them. The views were beautiful. You end and have snacks at a reservoir. They call it a lake which is fine but my expectations were off from their description. We were the last in the line of 9 and I think the head guide talked about the area but we couldn't hear anything. I would have liked to learn more about the area and history. I also would of liked a local snack instead of the granola bars. Overall we had a good time and I don't think you could have a better ride.

We went to Mendes Ranch on a recommendation from a friend. So happy we took her advice. I don't typically like to go on the nose to tail rides in a big group as I have ridden a lot in my life and tend to find it boring. This was definitely not the case on this ride. First, they took a lot of time selecting horses to fit every rider. They were very good about placing everyone where they should be to get the best experience on this ride. Those of us that felt comfortable were given the opportunity to run with our horses in a couple of different locations. But honestly the scenery was absolutely breathtaking. I did not mind walking along slowly and taking it all in. I would go back in a heartbeat. Thank you Butch and Camie for your expertise and a great ride.

We did this ride as part of a corporate trip, we do a lot of these experiences. This one was one of the best. We were on the horses, right by the ocean cliffs watching whales play and breach. We got to run, and the trail guides were so personable it was fantastic. We had a group that ranged from 11 years old to 65, and everyone loved it. The way they handled us, fitting horses, and each part of the experience was so spot on. Thank YOU!

My kids (22 and 20) and I had a wonderful experience on this trail ride. The cowboys leading the ride were very professional, ensuring everyone was safe and comfortable, while also sharing a lot of history about ranching in Hawaii and making sure we all had fun. Absolutely stunning scenery. All the other animals at the ranch were fun to see, too (piglets, sheep, peacocks, tortoise and more).
