About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 667bryank0 contributionsWhirley Bird SpecialGoing to pile on with the positivity because they earn it. The crew and our pilot guide Ken were professional and really fun! The knowledge and passion flowed out making what was already a beautiful experience that much more. Helicopter tours aren’t cheap but this one was in line with others on the island. A great value because of the service. Highlight of what was an all around great trip. Worth every penny!Written November 20, 2024
- I8057CLjudyt0 contributionsDoors off safety concernWe went doors off. Too many people for small helicopter. I was in outside seat and partly off seat. Only lap belt holding me in. Had to tuck arm into arm of person next to me so couldn't take pictures. Was very disappointed and VERY nervous. Didn't feel safe. Views were incredible and pilot was good but safety was an issue.Written November 17, 2024
- martinbF6482AM0 contributionsOne of life’s great experiences!Fabulous experience with Vince as our pilot. Extremely knowledgable and very personable. This tour is highly recommended. Even my wife, who was nervous about taking a helicopter, thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Thank you Vince and Air Maui.Written November 12, 2024
- BigCane000 contributionsGood tourThis is a very good tour where you can see a good part of West Maui and then go across to Molokai. There’s no doubt that you cannot see some of these places unless you take a helicopter or a boat or did some serious hiking. The people from Air Maui were very nice and professional. Our pilot was very friendly and very knowledgeable and he did a good job of navigating the helicopter. He made us involved as he narrated the your and warned us when we would face some turbulence in advance (one of the other passengers vomited during the flight, but that’s not the tour operators fault). We selected the tour which included a landing near the ocean in between one of the valleys. It was nice as we were able to walk around a little bit around the helicopter after the landing. In retrospect, I would have preferred a different tour from Air Maui that did not include the landing only because the time at the landing could have been used to fly over some other area areas (although the landing was nice I would have prioritized more flight time).Written October 24, 2024
- Hollie C0 contributionsUnreal experience!!I surprised my husband with the doors off helicopter tour and he said it's the best experience he's ever had. I agree! Thank you to our amazing pilot and the entire team at Air Maui.Written October 14, 2024
- N2387BPandreal0 contributionsThe best way to take in as much of the island as you canDid the 60 min Complete Island tour - loved getting to see Haleakala and it's cinder cones from the sky; there wasn't time in our trip to hike out there, but it was a must see for us. Also neat to encounter several of the sites we visited on our Road to Hana tour from the aerial perspective. The flight was very smooth and pilot was very professional and knowledgeable. It was my in-law's first time to HI and 'mom's' first time in a helicopter. She was just smitten, which made the flight all the more special (she got choked up at the end when they played her fav song; precious memory!) 'Dad' and my partner sat up front and enjoyed all of the maneuvers the pilot did, in addition to getting great views for the go-pro. It's really marvelous in person, pictures don't do it justice.Written October 12, 2024

- 397wayne0 contributionsSome good some badOverall the tour was interesting and the pilot was great, however there were a couple standout issues. First, we flew towards Haleakala but not close to it, we continued to see waterfalls over and over. It would have been nice to see more than just waterfalls. Second, and the concerning issue, there is a size limit when one registers for this and 2 obese women were on our flight. They couldn’t get in the chopper without help, took up more than their seats and when we landed, they needed a lot of help getting out. This made it uncomfortable for us as we were crammed onto less than our 2 seats. Also, if there were any issues, these large women blocked one of the doors and would not be able to get out of the bird. This is a safety issue! The size limit needs to be adhered to.Written October 2, 2024

Our first date set for the tour had to be rescheduled due to clouds covering the area. Everyone at Air Maui was kind, excited for us and very helpful. We decided to go with Air Maui. These guys were great. We should up at our flight time, the walked us thru all the safety procedures, we were loaded into the helicopter and we were off. Camron our pilot provided an excellent tour, very informative and got us some great views of the islands. Air Maui is highly recommended...Written October 1, 2024

The pilot had awesome music that went along with the ride, and we went into so many cracks and crevices - never accessible by any other means. I enjoyed the information, taking unobstructed photos and all of the care and attention from the staff. I would highly recommend!!Written October 1, 2024

this is a review solely for the staff working. We drove 1 hour to get to our helicopter reservation only to be turned away literally 2 mins after I paid. They cited bad weather which I completely understand. My bad review is based on the staff for not reaching out to us to inform us of this. Wasted an entire two hours round trip driving on our vacation. They did not even offer to refund the parking we paid 5 mins prior as well. I’m sure it’s a fantastic tour….. if you actually get to go on. Not happy at all. Complete waste of a morning.

I do apologize for the last minute cancellation but the weather here in the islands can change very quickly and can be hard to predict in advance. Many days we go flight by flight hour by hour because from one hour to the next it can change dramatically. I am sure you and many others were on their way or already checked in and worst case this can happen where we have to cancel last minute. In the end we will not take you on a flight if the weather is unsafe to fly in or not going to be worth the price you paid. I am sorry you felt time was wasted on vacation which I completely understand. In the end we are all human and our staff do try their best to handle rescheduling and cancellations the best they can considering we typically accommodate on average 100+ people a day.

We were disappointed with Air Maui Tours after an excellent helicopter tour on Oahu with another company 2 days prior. 4 grown adults were very tightly packed in the back seat with a young newlywed couple packed onto a front seat next to the pilot. We had very little room to turn to get photos or be comfortable. We were on the right side of the helicopter behind the pilot & with most of the flight being counter clockwise especially around West Maui, we saw very little looking over the other adults on the left. The door on the left was mostly clear of obstacles but the right door had a black bar & vent on the glass that obstructed views along with a fire extinguisher next to the door that reflected off the window when taking any pictures. When we returned we politely expressed our disappointment as this was a gift to my wife for our 25th wedding anniversary. I was told seating is not based on special occasions. We were not offered a 2nd flight or a refund. We were only offered a thumb drive video of the flight to see what we missed after we purchased a photo for $25. Very poor customer service when we expressed our disappointment.

I am sorry to hear you were disappointed in the tour. Seating is done by a weight and balance and we do try to stress to all that we need accurate body weights when booking to ensure everyone is comfortable and can take photos. The helicopter cabin is very small. All pilots are told to do a few turns throughout the flight to be sure that both sides get a chance to take photos and get a good view. I will be sure to share this with our chief pilot to remind them of this. Thank you for the feedback.

This was undoubtedly the highlight of our time in Maui. We did Scuba, snorkeling, beach, and a luau, but nothing topped the helicopter ride. Customer service was exemplary as I booked in July and sent multiple emails in preparation. Was disappointed that our initial choice - Hana Rainforest and Haleakala crater couldn't happen because of weather conditions. We were given a chance to come back another day but since it was our final day, we went with the alternative - West Maui and Molokai tour.
Not sure what the Hana Rainforest one was like (next time?), but the West Maui and Molokai was absolutely spectacular. From the moment we got into the chopper, the experience was breathtaking. Music played on the headphones (good mix) and Dylan (pilot) gave great commentary. The views were absoutely breathtaking. Paid extra for my kids to sit in front two seats and it was worth it. My son couldn't stop smiling the whole time. The waterfalls, the mountains and the water were all sights to see.
I would highly, highly recommend this experience - pricey (coming from Canada) but can honestly say it was worth every dollar.

Thank you very much! The weather over East Maui (Hana and Haleakala) can be an issue at times but I am so thrilled to hear how much you and your family enjoyed the alternate route to West Maui and Molokai. I will be sure to share your kind words with our entire staff here. Happy New Year!

Pilot Jim is a gem! He was, first and foremost, a real pro! He was also funny, fun, safety oriented, and reassuring to those with a bit of fear. Purchased the extra video / picture package and it captured the tour perfectly, much better than any pictures we took during the flight. Highly recommend this tour!!!!!

Our pilot Cameron was so engaged, remembering everyone's name and addressing interesting narration to each person by name at least once (felt more engaging, and I'm sure our 9 year olds dug that). The music he picked was awesome and complimentary, his knowledge was great and appreciated. The tour itself was insanely awesome. 45 minutes was a good amount of time for us with the young kids, and worth every penny. It was raining which only increased the waterfalls we saw. I highly recommend the tour and Air Maui - great booking and flight experience from beginning to end.

On arrival clouds were gathering and there were wind gusts of around 30mph. We wondered if the trip would be cancelled. Our safety brief went ahead and others were taking off, so we were glad when our turn came.
Stepping into the helicopter, I realised how small it was, not the big ones I imagined, the benefits of this were obvious later on. We were introduced to our Captain Kirk (first name but, what a perfect name!) and he took off like there was no wind, so smooth.
Flying across to Molokai we were treated to Captain Kirk’s commentary or fun humour, with his voice made for National Geographic voice overs. We were then introduced to his amazing skills as a pilot, as we twisted and turned to get the best views, often it felt like we were close enough to reach out and touch the mountains and waterfalls.
Not for the faint hearted (2 of the 3 other passengers with us were not having the best time and eventually ended up sleeping for most the journey), we loved it and had the experience of a lifetime.
Thanks Captain Kirk and the team at Maui Helicopter Tours.

Absolutely beautiful excursion! Our pilot did an excellent job of touring through and over the falls and other breathtaking spots. Would love to experience again! The only reason I didn’t give a 5 star is because he (our pilot) appeared to be a tad lethargic. This caused just a little bit of “nervousness”. Other than that, a great trip!!

What a great experience! Yes not cheap but worth every penny. It was our first flight, therefore also Door ON flight is already cool. Our Captain, Captain Kirk was an experienced, fun Pilot which provided many additional insights and kept us entertained the full flight - he even spotted a wale. And the landscapes and the beauty is simply amazing.

Was such an amazing experience! First time ever in a helicopter and it did not disappoint. Make sure you wear darker clothing to minimize your reflection and charge up your batteries. There are amazing views, even got some whale sightings towards the end of the flight. Pilot Nathan was cool enough to go towards them for better viewing. I am sensitive to motion sickness so I would take some Dramamine beforehand. It can hit some bumpy parts and also have some stomach dropping moments but all very exciting. Would definitely recommend and do another one again!

This tour was amazing and breathtaking. Our native Hawaiian pilot, Brodi was great, with in depth naration and flying skills that made the trip. A bit more time was spent over Molokai then West Maui, but it was worth it. The Sea cliffs and valleys of Molokai were the most beautiful landscape I have ever seen. I've been on a couple other helicopter tours in Hawaii, and this was by far the best visually.

How up/down and droppy are helicopters? I don’t do well w amusement rides and big drops/ etc. I’ve heard they are smooth and amazing. Just super nervous about how scared/sick I could get. Looking to conquer a fear turning 50!
Written February 27, 2022
Our ride did have some dips and dives. My partner was a little motion sick, but he is very sensitive to that type of thing. My suggestion is to see if you can sit on a window instead of in the middle. It seemed the middle was a little worse for motion sickness.

I'm interested in a helicopter tour on or around March 2. I prefer a morning flight and see the flight is 45-minutes long...meet in advance, etc.
The time(s) are 7-12n. Are there specific 'leave' times or we should plan 5hrs?.?

I wanted the morning also because of the clouds in the afternoon. I clicked on the same times as you and got 11.30. Flight at noon.
I would advise a flight of the whole island or east Maui
