Trip date: 7/12/22. Our pilot was Barrett, a native of Kauai who has worked as a pilot on Jurassic World and Jungle Cruise. Great sense of humor and very friendly. The ground crew was great too. We paid extra for the front seats with extra leg room for my 6’8” 16 year old but they probably would have been fine in the rear. Front seats are the only guaranteed seats for extra $100. The pilot chooses seating arrangements to balance aircraft in back row.

We were worried about getting canceled as it was raining in Waipouli where we were staying but we needn’t have worried. Views of the island were spectacular and Barret did a great job narrating the tour. Warned us when things were gonna get a little choppy and made sure both sides of helicopter got views of all the sights. Used our names to help point out which side of aircraft was facing a particular feature. Got great views of Na’pali coast (one passenger asked if it was called that because it looked like Nepal - pilot didn’t snigger), Waimea Canyon, taro plantations, waterfalls throughout island, etc.

This was a highlight of our trip.

The best part of this experience was flying inside the old crater- so surreal! The pilot was very accommodating making sure each side of the helicopter got a good view of each significant spot. The helicopter was very comfortable and the ride was so smooth. I also loved the music choice that the captain played through the headsets. The views were spectacular and since you cannot see part of the island any other way, this trip was worth every penny! One thing to note- if you want to sit in the front, there is an extra charge and you have to request it ahead of time. By the time I arrived to check in, the front seats were already reserved.

Great experience on a great day. Chelsea was very good pilot and also and excellent narrator. Though she is not a native of Kauai, she showed her love of the island by being knowledgeable and providing excellent narration. The icing on the “cake” was that the weather was excellent, with no wind to cause discomfort or clouds to obstruct our view. Although it was quite expensive, the video with the narration will be a valued treasure.

We were heading to Lihue from Hanalei and hit a lot of traffic due to road work. When we checked the GPS we were leaving in plenty of time to arrive for our 2:30 check-in time (for a 3:30 flight), but with the construction obstruction we were running about 15 minutes late so would arrive at 2:45, we figured we're good getting there 45 minutes ahead of time. We got a call from the grumpiest person at about 2:40 who said we're late and they will see if they can hold the flight. I told her our story, and she said you're supposed to be here at 2:30. I said, "Well, we'll be there at 2:45." Not another word from her, she just slammed the phone down. I had just told her we were 3 miles away, so would get there really quickly. Once we arrived, I asked a younger worker if she was the one I had spoken to, she said no, it was an older woman who was outside. She said she was having a bad day. I didn't cause that bad day, so not sure why she took it out on me. The kicker was we had to wait about 5 minutes for some guy in the restroom before we could start our safety video. The pre-flight stuff took 10 minutes (max). I'm not sure why she was losing it b/c we were going to be 15 minutes late. We had plenty of time. We were finished with all the pre-flight stuff by 3:00.

The ground crew outside basically barks at everyone. No one in the ground crew seems to have learned the words please or thank you. Just 'stand there!', 'Don't move!' 'Come!' I had paid extra for a front seat, and they loaded the plane and put me in the back. I asked why I wasn't getting the seat I paid for, and they had to go check and see if I was telling the truth. I had signed up for the front seat when I booked. Not too hard.

Once the flight started, our pilot, Mark, was very informative and friendly. wouldn't use this company again unless they figure out how to have some aloha spirit. We spent $1,700 for 4 seats on the helicopter and got treated like garbage by the ground crew. Sorry, that's no way to earn repeat business.

YOU MUST DO THIS TOUR. The only way to see all of Kauai!
If it’s the only thing you spend money for in Kauai! (LOL)

Disclaimer: I’m a tour pilot myself, in another part of the country. I know a quality outfit when I see it, and Blue Hawaiian does absolutely everything right. They’re friendly, efficient, absolutely dedicated to safety yet maintaining a calm, welcoming vibe.

Our pilot, Barrett, is a Kauai native, and has been flying for many years. We appreciated that he actually grew up on the island, and he included personal stories with his tour patter, e.g. “we camped there a lot when we were kids” etc. I know for a fact that Barrett loves what he does, even though he’s flown this tour “15,000 times.” As one who can professionally relate to that, I can confirm: he’s not bored with it yet!

And how could you be? Kauai is one of the most magical places on earth, and in just 50 minutes, you see all of the highlights. I was fascinated to see how much of the island is virtually unreachable, and how varied the terrain is all around. The well-known highlights of Waimea Canyon and Na Pali Coast are spectacular, but so is the rest of the island. It really gives you an idea of what to see and where to go. And, to just marvel at all of it, even if you can’t get there any other way.

We spent the extra $100 (or so) dollars for the seats up front. I strongly recommend it. I don’t know how the seats are in the back, and although every seat offers a view, why not splurge and sit up front? Also recommended: buying the video & professional photos from your flight. You see so much, it’s hard to take it all in at the time. And, their cameras are better anyway.

Don’t leave Kauai without taking Blue Hawaiian’s tour!

Absolutely the best way to see the island because too many beautiful places (waterfalls, beaches, caverns, lava tubes, landscapes, crater) are simply not accessible by land. This is a 55 minute flight that seemed to last longer. Great visibility from any of the 6 seats. If you want to be in the 2 front seats (less camera lens reflection), pay extra. The helicopter ride is smooth and comfortable; pilots are experienced and informative. You can pop a couple dramamine an hour beforehand if you're still a bit quezzy. They video your flight which you can get for $85. A very memorable experience.

This is a "must do" experience when you are visiting the Island of Kauai, as there is no better way to experience the beauty and majesty of the incredible Napali Coast. This was my second trip on the helicopter, and the pilots are always very experienced and professional.

The winds in the canyons were up to 50 miles an hour the day of my trip, so we did experience some pretty turbulent air during the 50 minute trip to the coast. Blue Hawaiian is very serious about COVID-19 safety, and because of the disinfection of the headphones and microphones between passengers, the headphones were not working for the three family members seated behind me, and they were unable to hear the wonderful narration provided by the pilot during the journey. Although it was my second helicopter ride with this company, I was more than a bit disappointed, as I was traveling alone and paid an extra $100.00 to be seated in the front of the helicopter next to the pilot. Because there were three family members traveling together and seated behind me, I would have received the exact same seat had I not agreed to pay the additional $100. 00 to be the "co-pilot". The office agent refused to refund the additional money when I questioned why I needed to pay the extra $100.00.

My wife and I heard about this tour from a YouTube influencer. After watching his video we booked right away. We were blown away by the beauty of Kauai. This is a must take tour while you’re on the island. Excellent customer service from beginning to end. Our pilot John was ultra professional and gave an excellent description of the sights around the island. The fleet of helicopters are well maintained and we felt completely safe.

This was our second helicopter tour. We took a Vegas Strip tour at night. That one lasted 12-15 minutes and cost us more money than this 50 minute tour.

Phenomenal, once in a lifetime experience! Our pilot Greg made us feel at ease and had a lot of interesting knowledge to share. He was professional yet relatable. He made sure to cue the music at the right times (including the Jurassic Park theme as we approached *the* waterfall, which was a highlight!). We paid extra ($100 per person) to sit in the front row. My husband enjoys photography and I knew he would appreciate the superior views compared to the back row, which he definitely did. Make sure to double check your check-in time; I didn’t notice it amid the fine print in the lengthy confirmation email and we arrived 20 minutes late. We still made it on our flight but felt a little flustered. Staff were professional, efficient, and seemingly used to -although still annoyed by- guests arriving late. Overall, even though it was very expensive I would recommend 10/10. Purchase the video at the end of the trip so you’ll never forget it. A must do!

Tour was great and we were overall pleased with the experience.

There are a number of other companies that operate out of the same airfield and provide similar tours at a much lower cost. My wife gets much more nervous about flying than I do and wanted to pay the extra amount for the better/newer helicopter models that blue Hawaiian flies. Thus, we were fine with paying more.

That said, I'm only giving this a 3-star rating because we were stuck in the back and on the pilot's side (which is on the far side for most of the trip).
Seems a bit unfair considering we all paid the same amount and yet other people's seats were way better than ours.

If I was doing this again, or if I was recommending this to others I would only suggest it if there is a fear of flying or if you were taking a family - otherwise I would likely save a lot and go with another company that's cheaper, and offers a better view. Some offer doors off or guarantee a front seat, etc. I personally don't see any safety concerns with other companies or helicopters but Blue Hawaiian definitely has better helicopters that are newer and bigger than all the others, and they've been dong this long enough to have a great reputation.
