- petersN4587HM00Fun AdventureThe kayak adventure was fun. First kayaking up the river with the jungle on all sides was fun, then hiking through the jungle with interesting sights to finally see the waterfall. Truly an adventure. Yes, you get muddy, but that’s part of the fun. Our guide told us to ‘embrace the mud’ and it was good advice.
- brettr95200Double the Fun! Kayaking and Hiking!Best of both worlds. Kayaking and hiking. Consider bringing water shoes that you can use to hike to the falls. Pretty easy hike overall but you will appreciate footwear that can get wet and muddy.
- juliebF1039HV00This was such a fun day! This was such a fun day! Nathan was the best guide and made sure we were safe and enjoyed our “adventurous” day. We would definitely recommend a Kayak trip with kayak adventures!
- niebski00A beautiful day spent kayaking, hiking, and swimming under a gorgeous waterfall. My husband and I had an awesome day on this Secret Falls and Kayaking trip! It was the perfect mix of paddling on the river,, hiking through the rainforest and swimming in a natural pool under a beautiful waterfall. Our guide, Gabriel, entertained us with the history of the area where we were hiking, including pointing out native plants. He showed us how one of the tree's branches could be peeled like string cheese to make fishing line and jewelry. The kayaking was easy , and the little over a mile hike was not strenuous but got muddy and slippery in spots.
- X5533PIpattyb00amazing trip with Levistanding at the bottom of the falls, feeling the power of the water. water shoes with a heavier sole or sneakers are a must. next time, I'm bringing old sneakers
- DariaNunez00Beauty scenery but Negligent guides and not enough infoThis tour needs be be more forthright with information and have tour guides that have more of a sense of responsibility for the guests. I am a 45 year old female in pretty good shape with no major injuries nor physical issues( runner, weight lifter, yoga, you name it) and I found this tour to be more strenuous and stressful than fun. The kayak portion is beautiful but it is long ( I estimate over 40 minutes each way). We had a good weather day and The hiking portion is flat but extremely slippery and treacherous. So much potential for injury with the unsteady and uneven footing. One false move and you fall. You will be walking on slippery mud, tree roots, and climbing over rocks. You will be placing your footfalls blindly in muddy water on beds of uneven rocks. You will have to climb over a wall of earth while clutching a vine. You will traverse across a river that is waist deep while fighting the current ( I should mention I am 5”6 so maybe tall folk have an easier time). Our guide Nate ( or Nathan) COMPLETELY LEFT US BEHIND and did not check up on us at all even though we completely lost sight of our tour. We were on our own. He didn’t seem to be keeping a head count during the hike. The lack of regard for our whereabouts and safety was …. Astonishing. I have been on every kind of excursion and I have never seen anything like it. The scenery is beautiful but the stress and anxiety took away from the experience. There are portions that have wooden planks to give you a break from being in hyper vigilant stress mode. I had to keep my head down and plan my footfalls the entire time to avoid falling. I have no idea what capabilities Nate had to assist anyone, he wore flip flops, there is no cell service there. Did he have a radio? Did he have emergency supplies of any kind? Who knows? No info was shared on emergency scenarios. Recommendations for this tour and for this company: 1) I don’t what footwear to recommend. Sports sandals are suitable in the sense that your feet are fully submerged in water but don’t provide enough traction nor ankle support. Full ankle high hiking boots are safer and more suitable for the terrain because the likelihood of twisting an ankle is VERY HIGH on this hike but you will be miserable with wet boots for 4-5 hours. Athletic shoes will be destroyed and not helpful. 2) guide should have done a prior safety meeting with guests so that we feel protected and know that there is something resembling an emergency plan. This tour company with way too blithe and casual in its description of what you are really in for 3) hiking poles or grabbing a stability stick are A MUST I can’t believe the guide did not insist upon it. I would have fallen several times with out it. 4) guide need to restate and insist that all items be secured in dry bag before traversing the river is waist deep water with a serious current. Our guide said nothing. 5) I can see from other reviews that the guides leave guests behind. I can’t believe I have to mention how dangerous that is. That level of negligence is shocking. I have no words. 6) be honest about how dangerous this tour is and mentally prepare guests for what they are in for so that they can decide if the high potential risk of injury is worth it. 7). It is not enough to be in ok shape. You have to be in good shape for this tour. Would I take anyone on a tour with this company again? I only have 2 answers 1) HELL NO and 2). NEVER AGAIN
- catherinebS7958HD00Great way to spend morningGreat tour. Gabriel was our tour guide, very informational and made the morning fun. We were new to kayaking so he gave us some good tips and great stories about the island while hiking. Great views and a fun time overall.
- 150beth00Informative, beautiful and fun!Our guide taught us a lot about history and the sacred places along the route. We enjoyed kayaking through the river and were challenged by the muddy hike up to the gorgeous falls.
- X4655OYrobertn00Good timesAmazing time kayaking and hiking with our guide, Gabriel! The waterfall was so cool as well! Gabriel was so knowledgeable and personable. Definitely worth it all and will do again in the future.
- M4158DEcarolc00Kayaking with Levi is awesome!!!Levi, our guide, was amazing! His sharing of and insights on Hawaiian culture made the tour really exceptional, along with his sense of humor and engagement with the group. The kayaking, hiking, and waterfall were great too. Would highly recommend!!!
- 292coryb00See aboveThe experience itself was amazing. The kayak was relaxing with great views. The hike and waterfall were fantastic. The staff, Jonathan went above and beyond. Without divulging too much as not to encourage bad behavior, they were very accommodating to our situation.
- 607mikaylag00Excellent Experience with a Local GuideLevi was an excellent local guide that gave me a truly unique experience. The views were gorgeous and the whole thing was just great. I'd highly recommend this to anyone visiting kauai 🤙
- Sancarltravler00A wonderful kayak experienceLevi was amazing. He truly made the tour memorable. He shared his cultural history and was truly was what made this adventure one of our highlights. We were celebrating our anniversary and he blessed us under the waterfall. Truly a beautiful kayak and hike.
- NotaonehitHunter00Such a special adventureSuch a fun day! Levi (our guide) was superb! He taught our group so much about the culture of Kauai. He even performed a wedding blessing for us and a newly wed couple in our group. He was so knowledgeable and truly loves his heritage and culture. He wants to share that knowledge and love with everyone. It makes for a very special day.
- CarolShuping00Awesome AdventureI had the best time with our guides, Gabe and Meena! If you're older, the hike is not for the faint of heart but the guides will be with you all the way making sure you can keep up! Kayaking was the easy part but the hike was beautiful and totally worth the effort! Many thanks to my guides for all the fun and adventure!

Our family of six thoroughly enjoyed this adventure. Our guide, Nathan was incredible. Had great information along the way that made the experience even more enjoyable than the beautiful views. We were well prepared for the tour, but a few others in our group did not have adequate shoes for the hike in. The website encourages closed toed hiking sandals or something similar. Unless you have hiked the trail numerous times, I would highly recommend not wearing flip flops, as they definitely struggled in several places.
We had varying ages of children on this trip with the youngest two being 5 & 12. Both of them were able to handle the kayak and hiking portion without issue. They are fairly well acclimated to hiking, but I think overall the experience is a family friendly one for sure.

Our guide, Levi, was an incredible guide and a wonderful, kind and caring human being. He started the tour by creating a sense of community “Ohana” within our group. Levi, safely navigated our group of 12 down the river on kayak and then on the hike to the waterfall and back. All along the way, he paused at different moments to share stories of his Hawaiian heritage with us with us and engaged in prayerful Hawaiian songs/chants along our journey. He took his time and helped us to take our time to enjoy and take in the beauty of the nature all around us. We signed up for kayaking and a hike, but it was so much more than that, because of Levi sharing his love of his Hawaiian culture and his home with us. We came to Kauai to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary and now we have this beautiful memory. Mahalo, Levi💕

We did a lot of fun things on the island but this was by far the best. Our guide Gabe was awesome. He was concerned about safety and took time to tell us about some of the things local, history, trees, rocks etc. he even trained a bird over the months to eat out of his hand that lives in the trail, yes I have video evidence. The hike was amazing and the waterfall was very cool. I highly recommend doing this, it is well worth the money.

Aloha,
We are always excited to hear when guests tell us this was the best thing that they experienced on island! Gabe is awesome and loves what he does! I didn't believe it myself either about the bird until it was posted on one of our guide stories on our IG page haha! (We called him Tarzan after seeing that) lol
Thanks again for highly recommending our company and giving a shout out to Gabe!

A wonderful experience that we have now done twice on our visits to Kauai. Today’s adventure started with a few back and forth texts with Madeline confirming some final details and then meeting us with the guide, Gabriel. As previously reviewers have stated, Gabe was fantastic in sharing various insights into the flora and fauna along both the river kayak and hike. We loved the tiny purple flowers (I can’t remember what they were called) but tasted like mushrooms. Definitely would repeat this experience again.!

Aloha,
Thanks for coming out with us again on your visit to Kauai!
Madeline will reach out to our guests 24 hours prior to tours to remind guests on bringing proper footwear and giving GPS directions to our location. Gabe is quite the gem! Those little purple flowers are called, Vervain. They taste like Shiitake mushrooms and are used in culinary dishes at restaurants around the island.

Came on a day when it was a little too rainy and cloudy for my taste. Overall had a nice time and enjoyed the scenery. I also had the pleasure of kayaking for the first time, which was nice. I did not care as much for the hiking, since there was more mud and slippery ground than I expected. I personally did not like the feeling of my feet being constantly soaked with mud and water, but that is just me. The guide was kind and chill with us. I was told they would almost cancel the trip due to the weather, which I honestly I was given a couple hours notice, at least, but he seemed to make a sound decision it would be okay to carry on with the trip and constantly made sure the water levels were okay between asking fellow staff and checking the water gauges. He even heard how I took an expensive taxi ride to get to the pick-up spot and did what he could to make the trip possible, which was a thoughtful and kind surprise/gesture for sure. The guide probably could have slowed down the pace for the people straggling in the back more, to be honest. However, he was patient with me when learning to kayak and told us some history/trivia of the spots and vegetation we came across. If you are not afraid of getting dirty, have some experience hiking, want to try kayaking on calm waters, and want to enjoy the forestry, this may be for you.

This is worth getting up early for, worth the money and worth the physical exertion to kayak there! The river is not rough or hard to kayak on. It’s is calm, not a strong current. Our guide was Levi and I cannot say enough good things about him. He included so much or his culture and history of the island in the tour that really made it special. He doesn’t even have to do that. I am pretty sure he’s the only guide that does that! He even has his on conch shell that he blows to make a horn type sound. He even sang spiritual, historical songs along the way. His upbeat, fun personality makes him perfect for this job. We had the best guide I kept saying!!! He even braided palm frond pieces and let me have it as a hair tie because I lost mine in the falls! He tied it into my hair.
The falls…freaking amazing. Even if it’s cold or seems intimidating, you have to go I’m and immerse yourself in it. They tour company takes care of everything! Don’t wear tennis shoes and socks!!! Lots of mud but you bond with it and it’s fun. My feet were so soft that night after showering…no joke. Wear well fitting water shoes or like reef sandals or just go barefoot like Levi did although my wading through the river and walking over stones maybe be harder.
Just book it.

We did this tour with Levi and it was fantastic. The day was wet but the trail is not as bad as others indicated and it is about 1.4 miles each way, mainly flat. The part that is 'different' is crossing three rivers during the walk but two are small, ankle deep, and one about knee deep. Kayaking is about 45 min each way (2 miles each way) and if you are not too use to it, it may be a bit tiring but nothing that an average person could not do. The best part of the tour for us was Levi, a local tour guide with lots of stories and with a signature shell that he uses to play different sounds used by his ancestors in the area to alert of other folks breaking in, or to thank the spirits for letting us enter their territory. He would also sign old songs for the gods and would make the experience beyond the amazing views of the river and the falls. From seeing other groups during the day, I think we got really lucky having him as our guide.
Definitively a tour that I would recommend. You don't get lunch on this one but you get two snacks that you can pick and two bottles of water per person when you start the trip in the morning.

If you're up for a bit of a workout and like the great outdoors this is a great way to spend a day. Kayaking, hiking though a beautiful forest / jungle, lunch by a waterfall where you can take a swim. What's not to like.
Our guide Gabriel was truly great, providing brief history lessons, descriptions of plants, great direction and a great sense of humor.
We really had a good time.

Aloha Jeff,
We are happy to hear you had a great trip with your guide, Gabriel. He loves to share Hawaiian history & culture and show guests the different flora &
fauna in the Wailua Valley that was once home to royalty, (not to mention he has a great sense of humor - being a Brit and all lol).
Guests definitely get a workout paddling 4 miles round trip and hiking 2 miles round trip in the lush tropical Wailua Valley. Glad you enjoyed your swim in the pool of the picturesque Uluwehi Falls.

My family and I had a great time with this activity. We went on a sunny Friday with tour guide John who was very informative, knowledgeable, and kept us entertained throughout the tour. Initially kayaking was a bit difficult as it took some time learning to turn the kayak and keep it straight. John gave us some good tips to help us row more easily. Btw, if you are interested in the tour but physically cannot kayak, the guide can tow boats behind them. Wailua river itself is very beautiful and clean, and kayaking on a sunny day was very relaxing and fun. The hike to secret falls after kayaking is easy for the most part and beautiful nature surrounds the trail (which is around 1.5 miles). I would recommend bringing water shoes as you will cross multiple rivers and streams. The secret falls is amazing and dipping in it was a cherry on top of the whole experience. I had a great time and would definitely recommend this to all families.

We had a blast with our guide Gabriel and fellow kayakers. The hike included junglely walking, through streams, and more. Along the way, Gabriel would talk about the trees and plants we were seeing or stories of the Hawaiian Queen. We ate lunch by the waterfall.
All in all a great time - would recommend water shoes like sketchers or old tennis shoes. Your feet will get wet and muddy. Flip flops a bad idea!

Aloha,
So happy to hear you had a blast with your guide, Gabriel and the other guests on your kayak adventure.
Yes, proper footwear is a must; old sneakers, water shoes, Five Fingers, Tevas or Keens hiking sandals - anything strapped to your feet so you can cross through streams and hike through a jungle 2 miles round trip. Definitely no flip flops or crocs.
So glad you had a great time back at the waterfall and enjoyed Gabriel's narration of Hawaiian history, culture and learning about the local flora & fauna.

We are a family of 10 with 3 generations. Can we all be together? My husband and I are 77. Are we restricted as noticed age was to 75. We admit we will need help getting in and out of kayak.

You can all be together. I think there was 10 people total in our trip. I’m 62 and in decent shape. The trip was a little physically demanding. The kayak part was long and the hike to the waterfall was very slippery on the rocks and mud. I actually slipped and fell twice. If your both in good shape and take your time you should be ok. The waterfall was spectacular

Aloha, is it reasonable to plan on wearing water shoes for the kayaking and switch to sneakers for the hiking?
Also, it sounds so muddy--should we plan on bringing along super old sneakers that we can throw away when the muddy hike is finished?
Lastly, what is a typical lunch offering for vegetarians / pescatarians?
Ron Byrd
Bentonville, AR5 contributions
Taking water shoes for the kayak and old sneakers for the hike is more than reasonable. You could definitely bring super old sneakers for the hike and then donate them for future travelers. Either way, I wouldn't bring my best sneakers or hiking shoes if I don't want to get them extremely muddy.
There was a vegetarian lunch option available for those that requested it. I would ask them regarding a pescatarian option.
Does this require prior experience with kayaking?

Hi, my sister and I are planning to visit Kauai the week of Sep-28 to Oct-4. We'd stay in Koloa. How do people normally get to the starting point? Do they rent a car and drive? Thanks
Dennis

You will definitely want to rent a car for your stay!
Exploring the island by car is easy and you should take the opportunity to see as much of island as time allows. The Waimea Canyon drive all the way to the Kalalau Lookout is worth the rental itself!
