Highlights
Explore the Wailua River, one of Kauai’s most sacred places
Kayak and hike through a tropical landscape for two different perspectives
Follow a guide to a remote waterfall for an off-the-grid experience
No need to pack lunch, as a delicious picnic is provided
What to expect
Considered one of the most sacred places on the island of Kauai, the Wailua River winds 20 miles (32 kilometers) through a lush landscape and past the sites of seven ancient temples. Make your way to the river launch point in Kapa’a and climb into a double, sit-on-top kayak. If you've never kayaked before, your certified guide will provide instruction. Learn about the Wailua's history and tropical ecosystem from your guide as you paddle for about 45 minutes at a leisurely pace. Disembark for a 1-mile (1.6-kilometer) hike through the tropical forest, observing native plant and animal species. Stop at a gorgeous waterfall splashing into a natural pool from 200 feet (60 meters) above. Cool off with a swim here if you like, and recharge with a picnic lunch.

Great Way to See the Falls!
Sep 2021 • Couples
Garrick was a wonderful guide. We had the best time! The kayaking was glorious and the hike was relaxing. Make sure you wear sturdy water shoes though, you walk over rocks and get muddy. The waterfall is beautiful and magical. Kayak Kauai was a super simple and easy company for this excursion, relaxed and friendly! You cant go wrong with using them!

Awesome Tour!!
Sep 2021
This tour was amazing! We had Gabe as our guide and he was extremely knowledgeable about the nature and history of the island of Kaua'i. Kayaking through the river and hiking to the Sacred falls at the end was an amazing reward. The water was refreshing!! A great activity and adventure for couples, families, or friends!

Honeymoon kayak/hike
Our guide was very helpful, knowledgeable, and made the trip fun! The kayaking was a little over 2 miles each way and a mile hike each way to get to the falls. The scenery on the water and hike to the falls was beautiful! Make sure you wear water shoes because you will get wet and muddy on the hike. The waterfall was breathtaking and you get a good amount of time to sit down, eat lunch, take pictures, and swim!

Kayaking and Hiking Amazing Adventure
What an amazing adventure. Logan took us on a kayaking adventure of 2
Miles to a one mile hike. The hike was to a sacred waterfall. Was beautiful and spectacular. Logan told us stories of the ancient Hawaiian kings and queens.

Afterwards, we hiked back to our kayaks and returned home. “Auntie” made
delicious sandwiches too that we ate on the rocks by the waterfall.

Bring water shoes! Guides provide waterproof bags.

Don’t miss this!!

Beautiful trip with a great tour guide
Aug 2021 • Family
Our family did the kayak and hike tour up Wailua River with a small group and Nalu as our guide. It was absolutely beautiful and very well organized from the start.

As we were heading back from the waterfall, we experienced some unexpected weather which Nalu expertly flagged as a hazard and he re-routed us to safe higher ground through an evacuation route. The trail was clearly never used, but was necessary for us along with several other tour groups we came across to take. Him and the guides from the other groups worked together to prioritize safety and swim across the river to get the kayaks to us to head back.

It was definitely a great story to tell. The kids didn't know the difference and loved the adventure.

To Nalu from our 7 year old: "Thank you for taking us on the kayak tour and keeping my family safe. It was a lot of fun! Thank you"

Aloha Ashley, Nalu is the epitome of all of our guides at Kayak Kaua'i's mantra ....safety first. Glad to hear that Nalu stayed cool and handled the recent weather curve safely and competently, by turning a curve and making it a plus and not loosing the real sense of fun. Will share with Nalu your 7 year old's aloha. Enjoy you 'ohana. Stay well and see you back on this tour or the others we offer island wide. A hui hou, Micco

Enjoyed
We have the tour today. The kayaking is 4 miles total with 2 miles up and 2 miles down the river. Then we had a hike about 1-2 miles to a nice 150 ft fall. The kayak is not difficult but we paddled almost 3.5 hours total.
