      Worth the drive!
We got there a little late and joined the group as our tour guide, Joe, taught us about bee keeping and how bees benefit the planet. It was a drive from Kailua-Kona but well worth the time and effort to find this place. Joe was absolutely knowledgeable and beyond entertaining. We told him that he should consider stand-up as a second job as he was extremely funny as well!

Mac nut honey lover for life
We didn't do the tour but stopped by the shop for tasting and, oh my goodness. The mac nut honey is life-changing. We didn't buy the huge glass jar, instead opting for a few small ones. We have already decided on our next trip to BI we are getting the big jar and shipping it home. SO good The man working there was nice and knowledgeable and we also appreciated getting to pet Stella the dog while on vacation away from our own. Even if you don't have time for a full tour, stop here and buy honey. You'll be glad you did.

      Worth a visit
Enjoyed learning about Honey and wish we had more time to visit with Beekeeper. History of bee keeping on the island was fascinating and the different types sold were available for tasting.

      Sweet spot of our day
This was such an interesting experience. Learned a lot and have a better appreciation of what care beekeepers take to ensure the quality of honey and respect for the bees.

      Educational Stop
Very educational. Tour guide was funny and very informational. Get up close with bees and sample some product. You learn to respect the process and pay closer attention to what you consume.

      BEE grateful they are here!
This was such a fun, educational tour! We laughed so much! The honey tasting was the best and of course we had to take jars of each kind back to the mainland.

      Horrible experience
What a horrible experience. Upon arriving, the only employee was practicing her Korean with a visitor. There were no signs up about tours or any other directions. I walked outside and down a road. Just then, a crazed employee started screaming at me. He said I was not to be in this area. I apologized and informed him that there were no signs indicating such. He continued yelling and I walked away. He even used a vulgar word. I do not recommend visiting this site unless you want to be treated like garbage and berated. I left the place without taking their tour.

A quiet, out-of-the-way stop. Very pleasant and knowledgeable staff with an quaint store chock full of bee-keeping info and pictures, plus great honey products. I recommend trying the Lehua honey ice cream! Delicious!

      Don't just drive by!
We just saw this place as we were driving around. We didn't have a tour scheduled but they were still extremely friendly and welcoming. They invited us to have a seat and gave us samples of their different honeys. They were amazing! We bought large jars of macadamia blossom honey and Ohia Lehua blossom honey. They offered significantly discounted shipping or even free shipping with a $100 purchase...so we added another jar! It was nice to have that amazing honey shipped right to our door. I'm enjoying nearly everyday! Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Next time we will take the tour!

Informative - Entertaining - Delicious Tour!
Amazing honey! We were greeted by a refreshing cool drink and super yummy macadamia nut honey tart. The tour was very informative and we loved trying all the creamy samples! Our guide, shown in picture, was very knowledgeable and entertaining as he explained the beekeeping process. We enjoyed the information which gave us a new appreciation for honey production. We enjoyed shopping in the cute store afterwards. Free shipping over a certain amount helped us get all we wanted without having to worry about airport restrictions on sizes.

Great Side Trip During Kona Visit
While using the Shaka Tours app, it recommended we stop here. Best honey we'd ever had. Friendly staff that offered to ship our purchases home rather than us having to check at airport. Absolutely worth a visit.

The on-site guide (Joe) was a veritable walking encyclopedia of knowledge regarding bees! I was totally impressed with his ability to answer every question with great enthusiasm and total lack of an attitude of "superiority." The lady at the store counter was simply marvelous and oh so polite. This tour is TOTALLY worth the expense and I was delighted with every single minute of it!!

We enjoyed this little farm SO much!
Joe's delivery of all his knowledge of bees kept us laughing and learning the entire time. Thanks for sharing your working girls with us. The honey sampling was the highlight of the tour. It's all so yummy, but I liked vanilla the best!

My wife and I are on our honeymoon looking for fun things to do. We came across this bee keeping tour and thought this would be a lot of fun (especially since my wife is an esthetician). So we called up and asked if they were available today. No problem just provide your name and email and pay when you get here. We drove the hour and 20 minutes and arrived a little late. They start with a ten min video which we missed the beginning of because they start on time (they did warn us beforehand so totally our fault). Once the video ended we headed out to the bees. Joe was not only very informative but went to each individual and allowed us each to see what he was doing. I did not feel like he neglected any of us for a moment. The information was not just given to us, but with a humor that my wife and I (and I think everyone else) really appreciated. It made the info not only east to understand, but also very fun and engaging. The information about the healing benefits were great for my wife as she’s been saying this to me since we met. And the tasting was sooooo good. Ended up buying 4 flavors and two skin care products. Overall, we’d say definitely worth the drive and even more so the time.

PS Joe, thank you for the kindness and fun time and love the little bit of NY humor you threw our way.

SUPER EXPERIENCE from the opening sample of macadamia nut tart and tea, to Joe the beekeeper's rapid fire explanation of all things bees safely behind a screened in area, to OMG honey samples that made choosing what to take with us even more difficult.
Friendly staff and great ocean backdrop. Even had a local gecko help us finish the honey sample tasting spoons (GREAT picture). Plus lots of little roadside fruit stands on the way down to explore.

We had a wonderful experience. The guide was very knowledgeable. He was able to teach us about bees , and then show us the hives . He took apart the bee hive to show us new bees being “ born “ , the queen bee , and so much more . It really was fascinating! It was all done with the protection of a screen between us and the hives , so I felt completely safe . We then learned how they are able to get the different flavors of the honey and the laborious process of moving the hives to different parts of the island depending on what is blossoming at the time . We finished by tasting the honey . It was a great experience. There were kids in the tour and they had a great time as well !

We were a group of 6 that came here to tour the apiary and found ourselves completely enthralled with the Bees and their keepers.

We all learned a lot, about the hive and the queen, I really enjoyed and it was the first time my DH had been up close to bees before.

The honey tasted amazing and everyone should go home with a huge jar!

Big Island Bees is an organic producer of honey products. The Apiary and store are neat and staffed by knowledgeable staff that could show you the operation and explain the art and science behinded it all.
Being a beekeeper myself in the Boston area I am happy to say they certainly knew thier craft. There was a great collection of native honey from different floral sources to sample and to purchase.
Your purchases could be shipped to you at home to save you trying to fly them with you home.
Tricia Perry and Jillian Scheibe were both proffesional helpful and pleasant.
In a few hours you can experience some thing in nature that will amaze and stay with you for your whole life.
It is a great take for the whole family young and old, learn the connection and reliance between bees and humans.

I never knew I knew so little about bees & the many many varieties. Went with my family & we were completely entertained while learning about the European honey bee. It was exciting to see the beehives & the queen bee & the different flavors of honey depending on the region the bees are pollenating & feeding from. Definitely time well spent. Joe the beekeeper was very engaging and very knowledgeable & we all appreciated his humor.
