Great views, difficult hike, but limited pre-hike communication
The views were a 5/5, but I have to give this experience a 4/5 because of the communication prior to the trip. The tour company did not reach out with trip-specific instructions before the trip. Specifically, they did not mention that you would be expected to carry your lunch & dinner up the mountain. That alone is not a big deal, but with no contact before the trip and no communication about it, our bags were not big enough for the extra food. We had to rent one of their packs at the last minute, resulting in a stressful situation as we scrambled to repack our pack. The new one was not fitted and was uncomfortable, but I was fortunate they had just one pack left when I needed to swap them out. So just a word of advice, be prepared to carry up food and leave space in your pack! The hike itself was grueling, but it was worth it. It's tougher than you might expect, but don't fret, you can do it. Also highly recommend altitude sickness medicine before the hike! Don't skip being prepared!

        Got the best view
Salvador was such a good guide, he is super helpful in motivating us to get to the summit. And what is most important is that his tour leaves slightly early than the others making we were able to get the best seats for the sunrise. Would recommend this to anyone.

        Great experience
Alex and Christian both guides were very helpful. They made sure we all were guided and had few breaks too. Lunch and breakfast was provided. Overnight tents were in great condition

        Amazing hike, views and guide!
Great guide, full of information and was able to get us up to the top before anyone else so we got a little peace and quiet before everyone started coming up! We even got there early enough to see the lava from Fuego erupting before it got too light out. After the hike we got breakfast and a coffee included at the cutest cafe on the lakefront in San Juan! The best way to start your day!

        Avoid.
I don't generally write negative reviews. And you should definitely go up Acetanango - it's incredible - but not with this company. To start with, they overbooked the tour so booted us off in the morning when we showed up. They gave us a 50% discount so I was ready to forgive it, but then we went on the actual tour.... Here goes: 1. The accommodation. Poor. The cabins we were accommodated in were by some distance the worst ones we could see (and we saw a lot). They resembled the ones in the brochure but were either still being built or were very dilapidated, and there were large gaps between the walls and doors. There was also a leak in the roof, and there was no safety rail between the cabins and the drop down the mountain. In the (wet) conditions we found ourselves in, they were borderline dangerous. We were freezing and wet all night. One woman in another group fell over on her way to the toilet in the night and (minorly) injured herself. 2. Food. Very small portions - effectively a child's lunchbox for lunch and dinner. You will have to cater for yourselves with ample snacks. 3. Facilities. Specifically, the toilet - absolutely revolting. Lots of other camps have drop/compost toilets made of either metal or wood. We had a small wooden frame covered with tarpaulin. When we needed the toilet, they put a black plastic bag in the "toilet". This bag filled up. Genuinely disgusting, and made me feel ill after using it. None of this should be taken as a comment on our guide, who did his best and wasn't the problem. But if the question is "should I book a tour with this company?" the answer is absolutely "no".

MIGUEL AND LUIS ARE THE BEST!
WE LOVED THIS WHOLE EXPERIENCE! THANK YOU SO MUCH LUIS AND MIGUEL! it was really challenging for us to hike up. They took turns walking with us at our pace and did not rush us. They were so helpful with all the tea and great service. The view was amazing and so were the guides. I don't think we would have been able to summit without their help. I highly recommend this!

        Really great trip, lifetime memories
Christian and Jose the Porter were just the best guys, the camp is the highest on the mountain so the best views and nice and quiet c w some of the others close together lower down. Trek is tough but doable, I'm 57 and managed it in 3.5 hours up, 2.25 hours down, highly recommended , food was awesome too and huts were comfortable with good mattresses and pillows - all in all 100% go for it.

Worth the challenge, Unforgettable sight, Great guide!
This tour was amazing and unforgettable! Thanks to our tour guide Santos, who is so patient and kind. Santos is the best motivator and he is very knowledgeable! His father actually helped create the trail all the way up Acatenango! I recommend you take your own toilet paper!

        Incredible!!
This was an incredible experience! In addition to the absolutely amazing views all along the trail (and ESPECIALLY at the top) Santos was the best guide and made our experience relaxed and seamless, even in the midst of the intensity of climbing to the top of a volcano!

        WORST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE ever!
Worst customer experience ever, I got scammed for 270 USD. If you get any problems with your reservation, you will not find any of your money back! P.S. You can find much better for much cheaper either other tours/websites/in Antigua! To FLEE - Hope this helps

        Abuelitos!
This hike is a great experience but not for beginners! We enjoyed it very much and the views at the top of the Summit were extraordinary. Our tour guide Cristiano was very fun and we felt safe around him. He did a great job at guiding us and did not make us feel rushed. We took a lot of breaks during the trail since we’re not expert hikers and Cristiano was very patient through it all. The night was very foggy for us but sunrise at the Summit made it all worthwhile. Highly recommend if you are in Guatemala and are able to hike uphill for 5+ hours! (We took 7 hours because we are Abuelitos)

Beautiful views, but the actual experience of everything else…
I’d like to mention the views and experience were truly beautiful and once in a lifetime, but the reason for my negative review comes from mostly lack of communication and lack of transparency from the tour company. Pros: -Beautiful views: It really was a beautiful experience to see Fuego erupting. Beautiful view of the sunrise from base camp as well in the early morning. This is what saved this experience from being completely dreadful to be honest. Cons: -Lack of communication: Did not receive final confirmation with the pick up spot(s) until well past 10 pm on the night before. Keep in mind pick up is 7:30am the following morning. First, there were two pick up spots. The driver forgot the second stop and had to turn around 15 min into departure to come back to Antigua to pick up 2 girls that were forgotten/left at the second pickup spot. There was little to no communication on what is expected for what to wear, bring and most importantly sleeping arrangements. A majority of things were offered for rent once arriving but it’s not mentioned that things besides a good coat and 4 L of water are essential. You also need hiking sticks, head lamp, gloves, beanie, very good hiking shoes, sunscreen, bug repellent, snacks, etc. Oh my god…The SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS. No one mentions this and this was possibly the WORST thing for me and I did not see any other reviews mentioning this which was a shock to me when I arrived. Your sleeping arrangements will include being in an approximately 6x6 foot long metal tin sheds with 4 sleeping bags on a hard mat and small pillow that are touching (yes, that’s how close they are to each other). You do not get your own shed/tent depending on how many people are on the tour. So yes you will likely be sleeping touching back-to-back with 2 other strangers, like my partner and I did. They mentioned that was better because it gets “colder” at night. But between me wearing 2-3 layers of clothing and still sweating like a pig, and being stuck sleeping between another couple (where the man spent the entire night snoring and the woman kept bumping into my back) - I did not sleep 5 minutes that night and had to just exit the shed and sit outside on the tables to not feel like I was going crazy from how uncomfortable I was. -Bring extra money if you’re slower: Good luck if you’re slower than the rest of the group. You’ll have to pay for a second guide to come help with your stuff and guide you while the rest of the tour continues on. I felt the pace was very fast and tailored more to the people in the group who were faster. Ultimately, there are many tour options like this one to hike Acatenango… This was apparent once I was actually hiking and saw other groups in better conditions. There were larger and smaller groups, saw a lot that waited for their slower hikers and did not leave them behind or have another guide with them instead... There were also other tour company’s that offered actual cabins, instead of tin sheds with sleeping mats. I would highly recommend doing your research before choosing a tour company, especially if you appreciate good communication and want to be somewhat comfortable at night to sleep.

        Best Acatenango Hike
Awesome trip with spectacular guides Melvin and Ceasar, their basecamp is the highest of the lot with the best view of Volcan Fuego. Note it is a difficult hike but doable with average fitness and sufficient breaks due to high altitude.

        Amazing Volcano Hike
The tour was simply fantastic. Our guide, Willie, was a lot of fun whilst also ensuring our safety at all times. No complaints at all from our group. Views were spectacular and the food provided was tasty. Willie made the trip exciting and extremely enjoyable for us.

We booked a day tour to the Chichicastenango Market in April 2022. Fredy was our guide. He is bilingual, super knowledgeable, kind and attentive to his clients. We had a great time and learned so much about the market, the area and Mayan culture. Thank you Fredy!
