About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- TuxMum0 contributionsProfessional SCUBA Diving operationWe have dived with Splash a few times and they are extremely professional. The dives are well led. They look after your gear. The lunch provided has been yummy and relaxing. We also went lionfish hunting with them and they kindly cleaned and filleted the fish for us. Moses and Nidia were extremely professional dive guides, and Randy was an excellent captain, especially as we were drift diving.Written October 8, 2024
- IanShrader0 contributionsGreat Diving ExperienceWe dove with them in the slow season beginning of October and it was an absolute delight. Leading up the the trip Ralph and Pamela were very responsive to questions we had and the booking process was a breeze. We used email and WhatsApp. We did a lionfish hunt and ended up having over a hundred total after 2 dives. Water temp was 87 and the visibility was 50 or so feet. Not as great as it usually is here but we came a few days after a storm. On the boat Moses and Needia were excellent dive masters and captain Randy was a great boat captain. We dove pompion which had a beautiful reef and structure. Spotted an eagle ray and had a great dive. This was the first time we’ve been on a dive boat where during your surface interval you actually get off on a secluded little island and lunch is provided. Also they fillet’d the lion fish from the first dive on the island. And fillet’d the catch from the second dive as we motored back to the dive shop. We left with a big bag of fillet’d lion fish and it was delish! When we come back to Belize we will definitely dive with them againWritten October 6, 2024
- U6435NTjenniferm0 contributionsDive with SplashWe went on two dives with the Splash team. They are very prepared and felt safe the whole time. Nadia was a great dive guide, showed us so many animals throughout the reef during the dives! Randy was a great captain too!! We saw rays and nurse sharks each day, and turtle after one dive on a brief snorkel spot in the silk cayes.Written June 9, 2024
- 330caric0 contributionsDon’t miss out!Snorkeling was amazing! The entire crew was friendly and our guide Bryan was very knowledgeable. We saw so many amazing fish and even a turtle. Definitely would recommend!Written June 5, 2024
- mgeorge170 contributionsTop notch crewDefinitely something to do while in Placencia! The staff was amazing, both at the shop and on the boat. We really enjoyed talking with them and they were eager to engage. The Caye requires a "guided snorkel" which means you need to generally stay with your guide in the water. This was actually pretty nice as our guide Moses pointed out various fish and types of coral. He would bring up different sizes of conch and sea cucumbers for you to touch and feel. He also pointed out a large stingray. I will say the coral and fish do not compare to what we experienced at the Great Barrier Reef in Fiji but there was plenty to see and experience. The 5 stars are comparative to other local options for things to do and we were certainly glad we went. There were only 3 couples on our boat which also made it nice and only one other tour group was there and they have an agreement that one group would be on one side of the Caye while the other group was on the opposite - have lunch and then switch sides. Not crowded at all! Also directly across the street from Chabil Mar Villas which means a 3 minute walk if you're staying there.Written May 28, 2024
- janedB6515AO0 contributionsSplash Dive TourSplash Dive organized a fantastic tour! Mark Carrington is a very helpful dive master and naturalist. He was eager to show us his beloved nature and told interesting stories about the animals. We toured Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ally. Had an opportunity to feed tarpon, and I saw my first sea horse in the wild at the Sea Horse Reserve on Caye Caulker. Dolphin and Manatee encounters as well both coming and going from the Marina, which was just steps away from the Fort George Hotel. The experience was beyond all expectations!Written May 14, 2024
- Cruiser547476092150 contributionsThe remake was just as good as the original! You know, remakes are never as good as the original. We took this tour 13 years ago with our kids so we weren't really expecting to have as good a time on the return trip. We were 100% wrong! Monkey River village is still a quaint little place and Alice's food is just as fantastic. Our guides Douglas and Zane Garbutt were the best. Zane has eagle eyes and was pointing out things we would never have seen on our own. The howler monkeys were down from the canopy and literally no more than 5-10 feet from us. Lunch at Alice's restaurant was just as delicious as we remember. When we left Douglas took us to see manatee and we found a cow and calf almost immediately. Pretty cool for an Oklahoma kid and got a nice underwater video on the GoPro. We'll always remember this trip. Thanks again Splash! You are running a top notch operation.Written May 10, 2024
- Cruiser547476092150 contributionsA day of awesome fun! What a fantastic day! The ride out was great, quick and smooth. The Caye isn't very big but absolutely what we all think of when we think of paradise. Nedia and the crew are top notch. We only snorkeled but got to see a Black Tip, a couple of nurse sharks, and a nice big sting ray. Worth every penny. Thank yo so much Splash!Written May 10, 2024
- 569shayneh0 contributionsFantastic!!!The snorkel trip was excellent! Guides were very knowledgeable and able to work with all levels of swimmers/snorkelers. We saw rays, nurse sharks, squid, barracuda, and all kinds of the most colorful fish!! Lunch was plentiful and the caye itself was beautiful. Highly recommended!!!Written March 15, 2024
- trevorowens0 contributionsAmazing way to spend a dayThis was a great experience. The Caye is a rather magical tiny island and the snorkling around it was perfect. At first we were a little worried that it was too cold to go into the water, but then the water was at this perfect warm temperature. The ride to the island was fun and our guide was great.Written February 24, 2024
- 136nerissah0 contributionsBrent Young is the guide you want!5 out of 5. Brent Young is the guide you want! A local who is passionate and knowledgeable about Monkey River, and does his tour the right way. He only accepts a small number of people on each of his tours. He cares for each participant’s experience just as much as he does the jungle, the flora, fauna, birds, monkeys, manatees, and even the ants. He truly loves and respects the area he is sharing, and it makes the experience that much better. Additionally, he grew up on Monkey River, and his experiences have shaped his extensive knowledge, which he shares in the most engaging manner. Go with Brent. You won’t regret it.Written February 22, 2024
- kauaicory0 contributionsPerfect island adventure!SeaGo, right by the pier, was wonderful! With the help of Ben and Devon we snorkeled in lovely, clear waters at Laughing Bird Caye and (my favorite) Moho Caye! Lots of fish and colorful coral to see plus 2 barracuda! On the shore at Moho, drinking fresh coconut water from a coconut, someone yelled to come see a huge stingray right by the shore. Then we got on our boat and headed back to Placencia. 3/4 of the way back I realized I left my wallet on the table by the stingray! Captain Devon stopped the boat. He and Ben got on the phone to SeaGo, back to Moho— everywhere. We knew they had other obligations, but we didn’t move until they found another captain still on Moho to go look. He found it! We continued on and they brought it to Sea Go. When I picked it up it was wrapped in a bag, in perfect condition with everything there! Everyone we met in Placencia was gracious, smiling and welcoming. Can’t wait to go back— have dinner at Omar’s!!Written February 11, 2024
- Quest7481990 contributionsWould do it again tomorrow!!We totally enjoyed our day with Ulysses and Omar at Laughing Burd Caye! It was a windy day but Ulysses was so helpful with getting us into our snorkel gear. Being a novice it was a bit intimidating. Even though the water was a bit murky he pointed out all kinds of fish both big and little and explained about the different types of coral. Lunch was a delicious Belizean plate lunch then off to the other side of the island to see more! Puffer fish, nurse shark, Angel fish, sea fans…I felt like I was in an aquarium! My boyfriend decided not to snorkel and thoroughly enjoyed just relaxing and beach combing. On the way home we even saw a flying fish! Thank you for a perfect day.Written February 6, 2024
- Jean M0 contributionsSnorkeling at its best!A perfect day from start to finish. Danny and Carlos were excellent guides. We snorkeled both sides of the caye and saw so many different fish and sea creatures. Danny was great pointing out each one and giving us the name. We enjoyed a traditional Sunday lunch of chicken, rice & beans and salad. So happy we booked the trip!Written January 29, 2024

So much fun! It was annoying that you could not book 1 person or a group but it worked out. They provided towels, water, and lunch. It was annoying that it rained and there wasn't really a shelter to go but it was fine. I would recommend a dry bag because you have to carry your bag from boat to island on your shoulders because the water is pretty high. Would have to carry small children. A water proof camera is a good idea too. Parking is easy and on-site. Beers after with entire group would have been fun too.

Lisa Thank you for taking time to review your experience with Splash and sharing suggestions. The boat you were on is a 46 foot boat with inboard engines so it cannot beach on the caye (all of our other boats have outboard engines so can beach on the caye solving the wading in water issue.

This snorkeling experience completely exceeded our expectations. We just snorkeled the Great Barrier Reef a few months back and this was 10 times better. Our guide, Ben, was fantastic, and he pointed out tons of different types of coral and fish. We loved the lunch that was served and that we got to spend some time at the island beach. The best part was swimming so close to reef sharks, sting rays and sea turtles! Out of the many excursions we've done around the world, this one is at the very top of our list. 10/10 recommend.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with Splash and especially for your comparison of Silk Cayes to the Australian Great Barrier Reef! It has been a few years since I snorkeled the Great Barrier Reef but I fully agree with your assessment. Close encounters with rays, sharks and turtles is a highlight of the Silk Cayes Marine Reserve and our crews love showing our guests the wonders of our underwater world. We will share your comments with Ben.

Our 2 families traveling with 4 children (ages 6-9) had a wonderful experience with Splash Belize today on our snorkeling trip to Silk Caye. Luis was amazing with our young girls and very patient. He was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. One member of our group went diving with Mark and had a fantastic time. Highly recommend.

Silk Cayes is a great spot for families with snorkelers and/or divers to experience marine life on the barrier reef in Belize and our guides especially enjoy showing kids how to find all the good stuff. This marine reserve was established to support sustainable marine life for all to enjoy. Thank you for a great review and we hope we will see you down this way again.

I would not use this company for your tours. They are disorganized and unsafe.
To start, we waited over 45 minutes for them to get the boat for our snorkeling trip, with the only explanation being that the assistant didn’t know where the boat was or why it wasn’t there. Moments after we had finally set out, one of the guides noted that they’d forgotten 3 people so we went back to the first pier, and then a second pier bc they didn’t know where the people were. The seats were already full, and the addition of these three additional passengers required all of the Splash staff to sit on the edges of the boat bc there were no seats remaining inside the cabin. As they joined, one of the guests asked the captain if the boat was certified for this many passengers, and the captain said yes. However once the guest asked to see the licensing placard for the boat, we saw that the maximum capacity was 11 people, not the 24+ that were aboard the boat. The captain also agreed that the documentation said 11 people max. While the captain said there were 22 life jackets, they were all behind a closed cabinet, not on any of the passengers.
Despite the guides & the captain being kind, this is dangerous and a clear violation of what the boat was licensed for, and a clear example of a company putting profits over passenger safety.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent experience with us. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or discomfort you encountered during your snorkeling trip to Silk Caye.
First and foremost, we want to express our deepest regret for the delay in the departure of your tour and the subsequent confusion regarding the number of passengers on board. It is certainly not the standard of service we aim to provide, and we understand how frustrating this must have been for you and your fellow guests.
During the time of your tour, we had unfortunately encountered an unexpected issue with our 39-foot boat, which prompted us to subcontract another company to ensure that your experience would not be disrupted. While this decision was made with the intention of upholding our commitment to providing you with exceptional experiences, it is evident that there were challenges in the execution of the tour that fell short of our usual standards.
Regarding the issue with the number of passengers on board, we deeply regret any misunderstanding that may have occurred. We want to assure you that ensuring the safety and comfort of our guests is our top priority. While we subcontracted another company for this particular tour to enhance your experience, it is evident that there were discrepancies in the coordination and execution of the trip.
We fully acknowledge that the situation you described was not acceptable, and we have taken immediate steps to address these concerns internally and with our subcontracted partner. We have reinforced the importance of adhering to safety regulations and ensuring that our guests' experiences meet our high standards of quality and professionalism. We have been twice selected as Tour Operator of the Year by the Belize Tourism Board who recognized our commitment to high standards of quality and safety and you can see from the many very positive reviews we have received on Trip Advisor that your day with us is not in accordance with our normal high standards.
Your feedback serves as a valuable reminder of the importance of thorough oversight and communication in our operations. We are committed to learning from this experience and making the necessary improvements to prevent any recurrence in the future.
Once again, we sincerely apologize for the shortcomings you experienced and appreciate your candid feedback. We hope that you will consider giving us another opportunity to provide you with the exceptional service and unforgettable experiences that we strive to deliver.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us directly. Thank you for your understanding and for bringing this matter to our attention.

My husband and I had the BEST time snorkeling at Silk Caye! The staff at Splash were incredible and made us feel so safe even as things start to open back up after the pandemic. They were so nice and knowledgeable and answered the many questions I had as a first time snorkeler! I will never forget this experience - I have never seen water that blue in my entire life. I am already trying to find a way to get back and do another trip with them. Thank you, Splash, for the unforgettable memories!

The staff was very helpful getting us fitted for our snorkeling equipment. Our guides Miriam and Brian were very attentive to all of our needs. I realized that my fins were too big once I got in the water. Miriam got out of the water and went to retrieve a pair that fit.
They educated us on the gorgeous corals and sea life that we saw. Brian even dove closer to coral and/or sea life to point it out to us.
I got very tired on the way back from our second snorkel trip; Miriam helped pull me in closer to shore.
The excursion included lunch and a bonus third dive to look for sea turtles and rays (fortunate enough to see one of each!)

We had a great time snorkeling with Splash. There is so much natural beauty surrounding this tiny island, and then they took us to another location to see big turtles, sting rays, sharks and more. Our guide was wonderful (I believe her name was Nedia (sp?). She was incredibly knowledgable, plus a ton of fun. They offer wetsuits because the water is a tad cold, the lunch was really good and the team made you feel safe. The entire experience gets a thumbs up!

Hi Mac Thank you for a great review! Silk Cayes certainly is a tiny bit of paradise in the Caribbean Sea and the marine life is amazing. We will pass on your comments to Nedia. Water temperature this time of year is about 80 degrees Fahrenheit and that can feel a bit cold.

Great day out on the water. Ride to Silk Caye is over an hour so pack your sunscreen. Lovely ride through numerous cayes until you reach tiny silk caye. For those snorkeling, you go around the entire caye once and will see all sorts of corals and fish. When you come out, some pelicans are there to greet you and lunch is served. After lunch and when some time is passed, yoy swim out to another snorkeling area and see some more corals and fish. Then to i e final snorkel area for the last swim.. we saw a beautiful turtle out there.
Splash are a nice bunch of people and the guys were great all day. Food was good too.

Do you still require vaccines? And what if you don’t want to snorkel the whole time? Can a 5 YO kid snorkel or hang on the island?
Written July 11, 2022
Proof of vaccination was required to enter Belize. If you don't want to snorkel the whole time, I would pick a different activity. The 'island' is very small and there is nothing on it apart from a bathroom and some picnic tables.
