About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- T426GRisabellar0 contributionsSo fun!!This tour was so fun and knowledgeable! Our tour guide Leo was the best! He had so much information about the history of the mayans, belize, and the caves. The lunch was good and filling. We booked this tour last minute and we are so glad we did, it was the highlight of our trip! Thank you Leo!Written January 13, 2025
- outandaboutinberks0 contributionsNature and History = A Winning CombinationBarton Creek Cave is a great stop for natural history buffs. We didn’t book ahead for the tour since it was off-season, but had no issues grabbing a guide and going in. Paddle a short distance to enter the cave. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the cave and the country. We learned about chuk, the rain god and the influence of seasonal patterns on where settlements were established. Fascinating to experience true darkness inside, when we turned off our lights and just floated for a bit. Sensory heightening allowed us to really appreciate the water music (droplets from varying heights of the cave ceiling.) The water was crystal clear and COLD. Good to know: during the off-season, the snack, bar, etc., are not open. Pack your own snacks and drinks.Written January 12, 2025
- Trip6814210 contributionsRead & Be Amazed - Being Fit REALLY matters! Our guide Patrick Warrior is a champion! This was truly amazing, and the most difficult experience ever - your fitness level matters and being informed of what to expect is important. You will be challenged I think no matter your lifestyle/age...I would dress differently for the adventure now that I have lived it. I'd wear long sleeves, and long leggings as part of the bathing suit because you will be climbing, stretching, scrunching, slipping, and sliding like you've probably never done before except when you were a little kid. So being flexible is important and wearing footwear/like swimwear is really helpful/like even sneakers would have been my choice if I knew before, also, you will be in sock feet (I thought for 20 ft in the sacred area) NOPE, a long trek/climbing with wet/socks/rocks, etc. so I'd recommend thick good socks/or 2 pairs as the wet/rocks and climbing is a trip you'll remember forever. Our Guide was remarkable, and so instrumental in the entire experience, Patrick Warrior, made this the most amazing adventure the entire day....he was surefooted, really brilliant, filled with fabulous people skills, yet so chill, AND gave us all an experience to remember all our lives. I'm forever grateful to Patrick for making sure that I could complete the trip, I had doubts and his skill, knowledge and manner of handling a group was so impressive, he was in the know the entire time....I am so proud that we did the trip! It is difficult to describe what you will do -- 3/4 mile into the dark/cold water/very wet sometimes, super small/areas - finding ways to get up/over/through will challenge most everyone. So, make sure you are comfortable going beyond, don't mind getting wet/and like working and trusting other people you just met. If you have any health issues, physical challenges esp. legs/arms and strength...this is not for you - I'd say having a really strong fitness level will make this a mind blowing day. Be prepared!Written January 6, 2025
- 30anuradhab0 contributionsWonderful hike but could be less crowdedLovely hike. The final cave was a let down but the experience made up for it . Tour operator took us there and assigned us to a different guide. Each guide can have max 8 people . Guide Manuel was excellent but the helmets and life vests could be better . Cave was crowded and they should limit visitors . Added extra one hour due to crowding in the cave . Food served for lunch was good. They rushed us a bit when we got to the start of the tour I felt. They should have a photograph taken for each group at the beginning of the tour so we all have a keepsake . Does not matter which company you go with . Experience is the same ,. All the guides seemed to be doing a good jobWritten December 28, 2024
- B8474FDscottt0 contributionsSpelunking to Mayan underworldNot the best tour van but once you get to the park and on the trail, it was awesome! We had Dr. Rafael as our guide and we couldn’t have been luckier. A hearty hot lunch of roast chicken and rice, guava juice and salsa waited for us.Written December 21, 2024
- shannongX9328AS0 contributionsA must-visit experience! My father and I took a canoeing trip to Barton Creek Cave guided by Abel. It was a once in a lifetime experience to travel so far into a cave and see the natural wonders. The trip was safe, comfortable and enjoyable and Abel gave us so much helpful and interesting history and scientific information about the cave. Belize Caving Expeditions provided round trip transport from our hotel, the whole process was easy and very fun!Written December 10, 2024
- shannongX9328AS0 contributionsIncredible Guides and Wonderful HospitalityWe visited Caracol and Rio On pools guided by Leo and bonus guide for the day Luis. We learned so much about the Mayan history, the Cayo region, and the Caracol excavation (since Leo worked on the excavation himself many years ago!). I was with my 75-year old father and we were able to move around the park easily. The transport was smooth and comfortable, and lunch was delicious.Written December 10, 2024
- O1122YMjessicac0 contributionsAmazing ExperienceWe visited ATM and our guide was Eduardo. This was the highlight of our trip. Not only was the entire cave experience mind blowing, Eduardo was a fantastic guide. With his knowledge of the Mayan culture, animals and plants, the cave and any other question we could ask. - sammiejo20190 contributionsDon’t miss out and bring…This was one of the best things we did in all of Belize. The tour picked us up from our hotel and drove to the cave. We did a short flat hike to the cave entrance, crossing a river 3 times. Inside the cave system we walked, swam and climbed. The cave system is HUGE. We had a wonderful guide named Patrick. He was amazingly knowledgeable about the flora and fauna and the Maya culture. He was very patient and an excellent guide. After the hike back to the vehicle we were served a local lunch of rice and beans, chicken, chips and salsa, and juice. Water was also provided during the trip. You will need to wear shoes, I’d recommend closed-toe, and bring a second pair, to stay dry and wear home. I wore a swimsuit but was told to change to shorts or pants. This was a great recommendation because you slide around on rocks and having the extra protection was helpful. You’ll need a second set of clothes to change into after lunch because you’ll get wet from head to toe and you explore the cave. You do not need money or water bottles or food if you eat before the start of the excursion. Don’t miss out on this amazing adventure. You will learn so much and have so much fun!!Written October 18, 2024
- Robrod660 contributionsBelize ATM tourAmazing adventure! We had a private tour and the tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. The views during the hike to the cave were amazing! Going through the caves while climbing over rocks and swimming thru the cold water was a challenge, but doable for someone in decent shape.Written October 13, 2024
- kathyoF4159MS0 contributionsBest day of my trip!I packed a lot of great experiences into one week in Belize, but the highlight was the tour to Caracol with our guide Leo. From the moment he picked us up at our hotel to drop-off, the day was full of good conversation, laughs and interesting information on a variety of subjects. This is low season, and we were so fortunate to be able to visit this beautiful site without any other visitors, just the three of us and Leo. The cave and pools before/after Caracol rounded out the day with a nice balance of nature and archeology.Written October 8, 2024
- tarabX4926BU0 contributionsCave tubing is a must do!Cave tubing was such a great experience. Our group had two guides, Leo and Marlon. They were both so knowledgeable about the nature on the walk to the start of the tubing, the cave formations, and the history in the cave. Exploring the cave was so much fun and the lunch was delicious. I also did cave canoeing the next day with Leo and he had so much information about the cave and how the Mayans used the cave. This company does a great job and I highly recommend.Written October 2, 2024
- leannefitzg0 contributionsGreat cave for any age/fitness levelEnded up doing this tour as the Crystal Caves were closed but I'm delighted I did them in the end. Our guide was Ben, he was great at pointing out some wildlife and giving us info on the walk through the jungle. So many leaf cutter ants which were amazing to see. The walk through the jungle is all flat, nothing to worry about. You cross the river 3 times, once was chest height but the other times was about knee height. Ben made us wear lifejackets the entire time which kept us warm inside the caves and also protected from scratches in the few right squeezes! The caves themselves were great, there were a couple of tight spaces but nothing to be worried about, no crawling for long periods of time or anything like that. Ben constantly told us where to put our feet and how to climb up or down any difficult parts. We saw some crystals made from quartz in the caves, and ancient coral reef formations. Lots of other minerals and elements were pointed out too I just can't remember the names but it was very informative. The relics were interesting to see, I probably enjoyed the actual caving more but it was hard to imagine people going that deep into the caves with all their pots etc. Great trip, everyone could do it with any level of fitness.Written July 25, 2024
- shooser0 contributionsCave Tubing Adventure with Francisco! We had an incredible time on our cave tubing adventure with Francisco. His knowledge of the jungle and the cave system was so impressive! He also took extra time and care with those in our group that needed assistance as we explored the cave and during our cave swim. We learned a lot, had fun, and he started us a little further up the river to give us a more personal experience away from another group! Thank you Francisco! We would recommend a tour with you to anyone!Written July 14, 2024

I loved this tour of Crystal Cave with Selwyn and Miguel! This trek was physically challenging, but worth it to see the beauty of the cave and the Mayan artifacts. Bouldering around the cave was hard, but the guides were so helpful in letting us know exactly where to step and when to get low for more stability. It was so cool to see the bits of ancient pottery just steps away from where we were climbing! For those who are considering this, there was very little sliding on your stomach, but lots of trying to keep your footing on slippery rocks. It was cooler in the cave than outside, but still humid enough to make me drip sweat. Hard work, but so rewarding!
After leaving the cave, we went for a quick dip in a swimming hole, and then had a delicious lunch (rice and beans with chicken) and plenty of rum punch!

We did 3 tours with Belize Caving Expeditions with a discount. The First one was Crystal cave spelunking. Our tour guide Miguel who helped us navigate through the glittering cave was great. The second tour was zipline and cave tubing where we had Marlon as our guide. Marlon is another awesome guide who has a wealth of knowledge of cave and Mayan culture. Our third tour was ATM cave tour which was fun and adventurous. Gliss, our guide was great too. All in all, we had great experiences with Belize Caving Expeditions. Highly recommended.
