Just us and one other guest. Our guide was super knowledgeable and is on the board of tourism for San Ignacio which gave us a lot of great info. Very close to town so easy to add into your day. Highly recommend going with a guide, but not required. We were able to climb some of the ruins which gave an incredible view of the valley. It is HOT under the sun so make sure to wear sunscreen. Moderate climb up the ruin so wear comfortable walking shoes and be aware when climbing.

We had a brilliant private half day tour of the Xunantunitch Mayan ruins with Cayo. Our guide, Dimas, was very knowledgeable and friendly and it was great to see the ruins without the throngs of tourists typical of other tours - at one point it seemed like we were the only people there! So much history contained in beautiful surroundings and they haven't even uncovered it all yet! Highly recommended tour at a very reasonable price.

Our guide, O'Neil, did a fantastic job at setting the cultural context and relaying to us the role and position of Xunantunich in the Maya world circa 800 to 1100 CE. He was both knowledgeable and very entertaining with funny anecdotes about ancient Maya life and the history of research at this fascinating place. I highly recommend the Cayo Inland Expedition tour. Kudos to this organization.

My husband got sick the day before our tour, so it ended up just being me. I was afraid they would cancel it but the guide, Junior, graciously agreed to take just me, and it was a great experience. The ferry across the river was fun and different, the ruins were impressive, and Junior told me a ton of interesting stories about major Mayan figures. My favorite was about the two queens who bested the boys club. After that, we made a brief stop at a shopping area, where Junior overheard me asking about chocolate and coffee, which no one there had at that time. Since we were able to go so quickly through the site with just two people and had a bit of time, he very kindly offered to stop at the local chocolate shop (heavenly) and coffee seller for me, which was above and beyond. I would definitely recommend this tour and Junior as your guide.

We had a private tour with Oneal and it could not have been a better experience. He picked us up at our hotel and was fun and informative on the drive to the ruins. At Xunantunich he gave us a great background on the Mayans to set the tone before we walked around (and up) the ruins. He brought us into his stories making it relatable and fun.
The ruins were very close to the city of San Ignacio, making it an easy half-day trip with little time spent in the car. Very little in Xunantunich is blocked off giving you the chance to really explore and see everything up close. Unexpectedly we were greeted by some spider monkeys on our way out!

We had a fabulous experience with our guide O’Niell. He was extremely knowledged about Mayan culture and history. We also learned a lot about many other aspects of life in Belize. O’Niell was a fun guy to hang around with. Very intelligent and interesting in so many ways. We really enjoyed our time with him. We would definitely recommend this tour!

We went on this tour with our guide, Dimas, from Cayo Inland Expeditions. He did an outstanding job. His knowledge of the Mayan culture and the ruins is exceptional. This site compared very favorably with a prior tour of the ruins at Copan in Honduras. My grandkids enjoyed the ride on the hand-cranked ferry.
