About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Foxrun0 contributionsAn AdventureWe had read much about visiting ATM prior to booking with Mayawalk. And we certainly made the right choice. For someone my age (68) and fitness (not very) I would rate the difficulty at about 8 (out of 10). Our guide (Juan Carlos) provided outstanding knowledge of the Mayan culture and the cave system itself. Without his expertise and guidance (also help, assistance, trust, support) the trip would not have been as enjoyable/successful as it was. Being able to experience a once in a lifetime view of a societal system from hundreds (thousands) of years ago is something we will never forget. So thank you Juan Carlos and to our very experienced driver Jaheim. A very big thank you to our hostess and cook Sadia for providing a tasty and bountiful picnic as a finishing touch to the day. Highly recommend this tour and these people.Written February 11, 2025
- Nathan L0 contributionsGreat tour with incredibly knowledgeable guide! Our guide Ed was terrific and provided us with a comfortable and enjoyable experience while sharing his wealth of knowledge with us about the natural and historical worlds! The Rio Frio pools provided a much needed opportunity to cool down and chill out before heading back to the City. Highly recommend!Written February 10, 2025
- Balti1230 contributionsBeautiful, Relaxing ExcursionThis is a great way to spend half a day. Our guide O’Neil was very knowledgeable and the cave is stunning. Our guide did all the paddling and we just controlled the flashlights, so it was even more relaxing than I expected. I definitely recommend this.Written February 10, 2025
- 925edenp0 contributionsATM caves tour reviewThe tour was super fun! Our guide Emil was very knowledgeable not only about the historical artifact but also the ecology of the area. It’s worth checking out or asking about the NGO they are partnered with: Belize karst!Written February 9, 2025
- ianlS6612PP0 contributionsBrilliant day at ATMFantastic and awe inspiring tour. We got very wet and muddy but the whole experience was well worth it. Our guide, Emile, had the patience of a saint carefully guiding two 77 year olds. His knowledge of all aspects of the cave and surrounding jungle was immense. We would thoroughly recommend this trip as it was a once in a lifetime experience and well worth the effort. Thank you.Written February 8, 2025
- Wanderer563483418860 contributionsFloating Through NatureAndy our tour guide picked us up on time. The drive to the caves was 1 hour so we had a chance to ask Andy about the area, culture and history of the area. He was very open with us and we shared many personal stories. The caves were outstanding. Great stalagmites and stalactites and columns. Some areas glimmered. In some spots we had to duck way down because the overhang was so low. But it was all part of a great adventure. At the end of the kayak trip we had a belizian lunch in which they accommodated my vegetarian diet. Swimming was also an option but we passed on it. And then back to home. Andy dropped my husband off at our hotel and then graciously dropped me off at another spot. It was a great trip and I would highly recommend it.Written February 8, 2025
- Passenger070397598620 contributionsBucket list experience !!This was a challenging but incredible experience for a 65+ mostly in-shape woman. Our trip was with Richard who was very informative about the cave, birds, trees and everything in between. Most importantly he made sure everyone was safe throughout the experience. There were 3 water crossings and a very muddy trail before getting to the cave and lots of water and boulders to climb once in the cave. Good water shoes and socks are a must. This was a bucket list item for me and Richard made it a truely unforgettable experience.Written February 8, 2025
- W8741PJmichaelj0 contributionsGreat experience!Great experience floating around while being told cool details about Mayan history and practices in the caves, as well as wildlife along the way. Loved the walk and swim in the cave as well!Written February 7, 2025
- travelardor0 contributionsAn awe-inspiring and unique experience! This caving excursion was a real adventure; I'm so glad I went! The cave system was absolutely fascinating to see, with colorful walls, beautiful rock formations and stalactites/stalagmites. I also loved getting the history and context of the artifacts and ritual sites. It was physically active too, with hiking, swimming, and climbing through the caves. Note: if you're at all claustrophobic or afraid of darkness or bats, this tour may not be for you. Thank you to Alex for being a fantastic guide!Written February 7, 2025
- madisonk3210 contributionsThank You MayaWalk!Absolutely loved our tour with Jason! MayaWalk is an incredible company and Caracol is a phenomenal experience. Can’t recommend it enough!Written February 5, 2025
- tomio6200 contributionsGreat ExperienceThis was a fun experience, it was really informative, and the pyramids are cool. It was great that we got to climb up the pyramid and learned a lot about the Maya people and their history. Jason was an amazing tour guide. He was really funny and really knowledgeable, I recommend him!Written February 5, 2025
- 635jaspreetb0 contributionsDefinitely go for the ATM tour with MayaWalkI went for the Caracol ruins tour and ATM caves tour with my friends with Maya Walk Tours. Our guides Jason for Caracol, and Richard for ATM, were amazing. They were both very knowledgeable and ensured a comfortable and safe experience. For the ATM tours I cannot recommend Richard enough. I was apprehensive given that it was rated as an intense experience, and I'm not a super comfortable swimmer or climber. But having an excellent guide helped me have an incredible experience. He was patient and had a wealth of knowledge. I highly recommend this even if you're anxious or scared. You'll push yourself, learn a lot about the Mayan people and their rituals, and have a fun adventure. Go book the ATM tours and ask for Richard!Written February 5, 2025
- madisonk3210 contributionsTop Life Experience You Absolutely Cannot MissOne of the absolute best experiences of my life. We have traveled so many places and done tons of amazing, exhilarating, memorable adventures, and the ATM Caves with MayaWalk is among the best of these. Our guide Emil did a fantastic job relaying the fascinating history of the Maya, plus shoutout to our driver Joel for getting us all there and back. If you are even considering doing this tour - DO IT! You won’t regret it! And every tour with MayaWalk contributes to local conservation efforts which is the cherry on top for an already incredible team of guides and other staff. Thank you for our experience!Written February 5, 2025
- tomio6200 contributionsAmazing Experience, Richard was such a helpful and knowledgeable tour guideThis was such an amazing experience. Going through the ATM tour with Richard was a true pleasure. He was very helpful, and also very knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna, and about the lives, religious practices, and history of the old Maya people. He took extra care with our group and helped make the experience unforgettable. I highly recommend this experience.Written February 5, 2025
- elainek3780 contributionsMayaWalk Tours / ATM Cave TourThis was the most interesting, beautiful, historical, physical tour we've been a part of. MayaWalk tours was so professional. My husband needed some extra help in the cave and our tour guide, Christian, was so attentive to his needs. Christian also explained the history of the cave, the people that lived there, the conservation in the cave and the area. He was fantastic. Also Sawadee (the spelling probably isn't correct) she prepared a beautiful lunch that was served on table cloths. And our bus driver Tate, got us to the cave safely. All great people and it was an experience of a lifetime. So glad we decided to go to this cave and also with this MayaWalk Tours.Written February 5, 2025

This was everything we had hoped for: beauty, adventure, history, culture, and fun.
Our guide was Anselmo, who has Mayan ancestry and shared such rich insights on the Mayan culture and Belize history as we drove from San Ignacio to the highlands. He was funny, patient, accommodating, and overall a great host.
Our first stop was Big Rock Falls, which includes the biggest adventure of the trip. You climb down a set of rickety old wooden steps through the forest to get to the falls. Then the guide helps you navigate the safest way across the very slippery rocks to swim across the main pool toward the falls. The water was cold, but it was worth it to experience the beauty and peace. Anselmo was smart to make this our first stop as we had it all to ourselves.
The second spot was Rio Frio Cave, a truly sacred place to visit respectfully. It is not an adventure cave; it is wide and tall, not requiring squeezing through narrow passages. Standing in the middle, you can see both ends. Again, Anselmo’s knowledge added richly to this unique site.
After coming out the cave, Anselmo spread a picnic blanket on a table and set out a wonderful Belizean meal of rice and carrots and stew chicken, plus rum punch. This ultimately was the best meal I had in all my 9 days in Belize (and we ate at a wide variety of restaurants!).
Our final stop was Rio On Pools, a beautiful setting for sitting and enjoying the beauty even if you don’t see like getting wet. There are changing rooms for getting in/out of your swimming attire.
The roads to get to these locations are a bit of an adventure themselves. Be prepared for a rough and bumpy ride. (We loved it, but it’s not for everyone.)
Even my 17-year-old said she thoroughly enjoyed every part of this excursion. Thank you, Anselmo and Maya Walk Tours!

It was so nice to have a stress free tour with engaging conversation from Josiah (Mayawalk Tours) our guide and driver to the Pine Ridge Forest Reserve. He knew the terrain and we would advice everyone to hire a company to take them instead of wrecking their rental. The photos he took and gave to us after will always be a wonderful memory of that trip. He was very thoughtful and took care of all our needs safety wise and included lunch during

Amazing day trip with Edeoni - couldn’t recommend it more!! From the start he was super friendly, organised and informative - even letting us tag along for his breakfast to a lovely place near the office to start the day right! The cave, waterfalls and river are all beautiful and we had them practically to ourself. Edeoni was incredibly knowledgeable and we both learnt loads about everything from the birds to Belize culture. The packed lunch was also amazing and massive portion sizes! A great way to see Mountain Pine Ridge with lovely company

Fantastic day touring Mountain Pine Ridge with Emil. Hike to Rio Frio cave, the Rio On swimming pools, then more swimming at Big Rock Falls. We're not big on caves so we chose this over ATM. The Rio Frio Cave is a massive chamber but not deep at all. The hike to the cave was a little longer than expected but not at all a problem, a mile each way. Emil was very personable and very knowledgeable. Hope to see him again next time we're in Belize.

We used Maya Walk Tours for this trip and we only have compliments for the company. Well organized with great customer service. Their cook also makes delicious Belizean chicken served on the trip.
Our guide Chemo (Anselmo) was great. He shared lots of knowledge of local history and customs, animals, plants and agriculture.
It was great to visit 3 different places on this walk, and to dip in the waterfall pools. Would love to come back and explore more of the surroundings.

I did this tour with Paradise Expeditions and our guide Lucy was phenomenal! She has taken so much training for tourism that she has facts and stories about everything we saw all day!
Most of the tour is spent driving. The road is a very rough forestry type road and it’s slow going. The cave is spectacular, the waterfall and swimming was beyond fantastic, and the 1000 ft falls is a great view.
I highly recommend this tour for anyone, including families. I loved that none of the sites were crowded with people. I wish hiking had been a component, but I really enjoyed it anyway.

This was a great change of pace. We did the ATM caves first and then this tour. I was nervous since there weren’t many reviews. I’m so glad we did this tour. First stop is a cave that you can walk around and take pics. Second and third stops you swim. I wore my swimsuit under my clothes but we did stop and there was a place to change. The two waterfall spots were beautiful! We had a group of 8 of us so much smaller group and it was a nice change from atm caves that have sooo many people. We were given as much time as we wanted at each location. It was amazing! Josiah was a fantastic guide.

This was my first tour in San Ignacio. Our tour guide, Francis, was great and even provided lunch with rum punch. There are 3 stops. The first is to a cave, then to the Rio pools, and finally a waterfall. There's more sitting the car than the other tours I did between the stops.
