Great tour
Sep 2021 • Friends
We had a excellent tour with Anselmo.
They teach us a lot about all Maya history and guided us through the ruins.
A very pleasant lunch with rum punch.

Highly recommend this tour to Caracol at a great price
Our guide, Anselmo, Was marvelously knowledgeable and made our tour to caracol extremely enjoyable. Long bumpy ride, but Caracol is fascinating, and amazing lunch! The stop at Rio Frio cave was also worthwhile. Swimming in Rio on Pools was the perfect refreshing experience on the way back.

Fantastic day out with a fantastic guide!
May 2021
Fantastic experience with Anselmo - whose knowledge of and enthusiasm for all things Mayan really accentuated the experience. This is a fantastic tour, and the history, architecture, and jungle surroundings (complete with howler monkey screeches) all add up to an unforgettable day. Caracol is truly awe-inspiring, but do beware of the drive there - bone-shaking in the extreme! ;)

Also, the Rio Frio cave and the Rio On pools are the perfect way to cool off after Caracol. A fun and unique glimpse of more of Belize, and we were lucky enough to see scarlet macaws on our way back!

An amazing day out with a great guide!
May 2021
Our guide's name was Anselmo and he was fantastic. He was friendly and knowledgeable about all three sites as well as pointing out plants and animals along the way. If you do this trip try and make sure you are in his group! We were picked up from our lodge (The Parrot Nest Lodge) at 6:30am and taken to their office in town. We met the other 6 people going on the tour with us before being split into two groups. There were 5 in ours and 3 in the other. Each group had their own van. The ride to Caracol is 2 and half hours most of which is along a very bumpy unpaved road. The one stop is about 20 min in at a gas station for a bathroom break and to pick up drinks/snacks if you want them. The van is air-conditioned. After the tour at Caracol they provided a delicious lunch of rice and beans and chicken along with rum punch and cookies. Next we went to the cave followed by a very refreshing swim in the pools. There is a place to change at the pools and there are doors on the changing rooms now. You should bring sunscreen and a hat and know that it was very hot walking around Caracol. We got back to town at around 5pm. We really enjoyed Caracol and the day is worth the bumpy ride. We were fortunate that we had a great group of people which helped make it a truly memorable day. As an added bonus Anselmo is also a first responder so could have helped us if we had gotten hurt.

Great time
May 2021
Another excellent tour from MayaWalk Tours. The ruins were beautiful and our guide knew anything there is to know about the history of the Maya. He was incredibly friendly and we had a great time discussing Belizean history and other things on the long drive. If anyone is worried about the amount of walking on this tour, it isn't a far distance, but there is some climbing of steep steps and the weather was very hot when we went. Not only did we see the ruins but the wildlife in this protected area was beautiful. Since it was just the end of the dryer season there, our guide gave us the option to skip the Rio Frio Cave and instead go to another swimming area that had a waterfall and cliff jumping. It was a great experience and you could tell the tour company cares about the experience of their guests.

Anselmo is a hero and so is MayaWalk Tours
WOW! I try to travel as much as i can, which means I'm always participating in new tours, BUT this tour easily outdoes them all! I have experience with Mayan ruins in Mexico, but they were nothing compared to our experience with Anselmo and Maya Walk Tours. Caracol is a lengthy trip, but Anselmo made it fly by with all the knowledge he was able to impart upon us jumping from topics of the Classical and Post-Classical Maya, to mythology, to contemporary Belize itself. Anselmo also switched off perfectly between English and Spanish (our party had speakers of both), and made it work effortlessly. Once at the site, we had two full hours of further site specific history. it may seem like a lot, but we were engaged the whole time (and mind you, we were a little sleep deprived). Ultimately, there's no end to how charming, fascinating, and experienced Anselmo is. I've never had such a compelling tour guide. Then, of course, Caracol itself is massive! It's gorgeous, incredible, and no matter what your interests are, it's hard not to be impressed. To top it all off, folks at the Maya Walk tours home cooked and prepared a delectable chicken stew for us to have after viewing the ruins! If that's not hospitality, i don't know what is! On our way out of the site, we were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a jaguar! Lastly, as if all that weren't enough, Rio on pools, was such a special way to end the tour. It's long, but because every bit is enjoyable, there's no space or time or even desire to complain about a single thing. Thank you!

Great day learning Mayan history and seeing wildlife
It was a full day. From 7am to 4pm. We went to the cave when no one else was there and it’s stunning. The ruins were amazing, plus we saw Macaws, toucans, a burrowing tarantula, howler monkeys, and so many beautiful birds. It was really hot but we go a great meal and dipped in the natural pools. The experience was all thanks to Oscar. He was was so knowledgeable about Mayan culture and history, the area, plants/trees, and all the wildlife we saw. He is an expert spotter for birds and helped other guides with a known area for Scarlett Macaws along the way. Also he was a very good driver through the long rough road up. It’s worth the bumps.

Long Drive - But Worth It! Absolutely Amazing
Although it is quite a long (and bumpy) ride to the site, it is totally worth it. You’re in awe once you arrive to the ruins. They are so much bigger than we anticipated, and for the most part you are shaded as you walk around. Also it was not crowded at all - maybe 7 of us total(!) in the entire complex, so it almost felt like a private tour experience, probably because it was so far away from San Ignacio. Our tour guide and the driver were very friendly and knowledgeable. The lunch may have been the best lunch we had in Belize. Very filling. Although the ride is bumpy, we never felt car sick. After you leave the ruins you think the most amazing part is complete - nope! You stop at the coolest cave on the way back - by far the BIGGEST cave we’ve ever seen. It is seriously huge and awe-inspiring. Lastly you stop at rock pools which are a very refreshing way to end the tour.

Our only note is that this is a very long tour, with lots of time on the road. However that’s worth it once you arrive, especially since not many people were there. The ride back doesn’t seem as long since you stop a few times.

One of the best adventures I’ve done
Did the ATM tour and Carocol ruins with Mayawalk. The guides were so informative and knowledgable. They kept all the excursions entertaining. Definitely want to thank Juan Carlos and Oscar for all their help and getting us out of comfort zones to do all the activities during the excursion. The food provided was also amazing and it was local belizian lunch. The Mayawalk team was very helpful and communicated well in helping to set things up, communicated with our lodge for timing and pick up, making sure we had everything for the excursion.

Tour from Cahal Pech
Long drive on fairly rough road, if in wet condition could be near impassable but we had mostly dry. Stopped at Tio Frio cave which is an easy walk and chance to stretch your legs. Caracol is an amazing site. It is very large, the restorations that have been completed are well done. Work continues in various places around the region. This is the only city found with a middle class if I remember correctly. Caracol taught me that if you've seen one mayan site you have NOT seen them all. I saw this after Tikal and both were stunning but very different from each other.

Caracol overall site is larger than Belize City and at one time supported a very large population(100,000+). It was a very important geo-political centre and where was successful at battle against neighbouring cities like Tikal.

All in all a worthy trip and dont think you shouldn't visit a site because you've already seen one. Each reveal unique things, they are in jungle so you get the added bonus of seeing wildlife.

Our trip continued to pine mountain ridge where we did hey rain so we just got out at a viewpoint rather than climbing down and swimming.
