I would definitely recommend seeing the largest sprawling Mayan city in Belize, and the other two stops are breathtaking. Our guide, Anselmo, was incredibly knowledgeable and shared information about Mayan history, Caracol itself, and even the land, plants, flowers, and animals surrounding it all. He was also very friendly and funny. Caracol is an engineering marvel, and we loved getting to climb to the top of the pyramids and check out different rooms, the king’s throne, and other interesting points in this fascinating place. When we went to Rio Frio Cave, there have been a lot of rain and we had to park the shuttle and walk down a road that was quite muddy in some places. I don’t do mud, so I probably should have stayed at the shuttle and let everyone who wanted to go ahead, but the cavern itself was awe-inspiring, and even had a sandy island beach in the middle of it. Rio On Pools might have been my favorite part. This gorgeous system of waterfalls and large rocks forms several pools of various depths that are perfect for relaxing, cooling off, and having a lovely swim after a hot day. We splashed around, climbed the rocks, and took a ton of pictures. The lunch that the tour company provided of Belizean dishes was also very good and they brought delicious vegan food for me. I would absolutely recommend booking this tour and trying to get Anselmo as your guide.

We booked this tour based on other reviews posted on Trip Advisor and we were thrilled! Michael, our Maya Walk driver picked us up at our hotel. We met Abi, our tour guide, a few minutes later at the Maya Walk offices. Michael was a skilled driver who safely navigated difficult terrain to get us safely to Rio Frio Cave, Caracol and The Rio Frio Pools. Abi was very passionate about Belizian Mayan history, the history of the site, and the nature reserve surrounding the site . He also had a passion for native birds. Abi planned the Caracol site visit perfectly so that we had the ruins primarily to our group of six. We enjoyed a delicious local made Mayan chicken lunch after touring Caracol. Micheal and Abi setup the warm lunch at the conclusion of our site tour and even had a formal table cloth. We highly recommend this tour! Michael and Abi were a great team and made the trip even more special!

I have been to quite a few Mayan sites in Central America so can compare well. This tour was exceptionally good in terms of its explanation of when and how we think Mayans lived there. My guide Anselmo was very knowledgeable about all the aspects of this Mayan site as well as some comparisons to other archeological sites for context: its historical context, the architecture, their religion, a feel for their lives, the things we don’t know about them, the nature reserve around the ruins.
Yet he also knows how to convey all of this in a very lively story that keeps your attention and fascination. He blended everything together into a nice day.
Note: I made a special request in advance to skip the other stops and spend all the availabile time at Caracol ruins so my review covers only that part of the standard tour offered. MayaWalk was very accommodating in explaining their various tours and setting up this adapted one.

I was traveling by myself, and did the Caracol Mayan ruins tour with Maya Walk from San Ignacio. Ended up in a group tour (6 total) and had a fantastic day. Abi was our guide, and was very knowledgeable, helpful, polite, friendly. He covered it all VERY well. The driver, Jaheem, did an excellent job on, admittedly, some rough stretches of road.
The Caracol ruins were fantastic by themselves, and then the historical, cultural and natural (plants, animals, birds, soil) information shared by Abi made it even better. I really felt that I learned a lot today.
After the main tour, Jaheem and Abi served us a lovely lunch (veggie options available), then on our way back to San Ignacio, we stopped at Rio On pools, for a refreshing dip, and another cascade/waterfall, also available for swimming.
The van was also excellent, as was the companionship.
Abi & Jaheem were also so professional and courteous that they stopped briefly, to help another vehicle change the tire on THEIR vehicle, on the drive back. Nice people!

Originally, we were going to rent a jeep and drive ourselves to Caracol. I don't prefer being on someone else's schedule, and I read up on a site before visiting.
The road is a rough one, and the first time you drive a road like that you have to allot time to deal with the unforseen. Our driver Tate was an expert with the van, he drives it several times a week and can do it in his sleep. Our group got safely to all the stops with a minimum of harsh bumps or time stuck behind pokey drivers.
Jason who led us is a consumate professional. If you get him, you are golden. I learned enough in my reading to know he wasn't winging it. His style was relaxed, confident, and very personable.
We were very happy with our choice of tour operator and location.

My family of 4 took this tour with our guide and driver, Anselmo Galicia. He was one of the best guides and drivers we have ever had. He had a seemingly inexhaustible knowledge of our tour sites and he was able to communicate his enthusiasm and knowledge with ease. He made this tour a remarkable day for all of us. You will not be disappointed with him as your tour guide and driver.

WOW! I try to travel as much as i can, which means I'm always participating in new tours, BUT this tour easily outdoes them all! I have experience with Mayan ruins in Mexico, but they were nothing compared to our experience with Anselmo and Maya Walk Tours. Caracol is a lengthy trip, but Anselmo made it fly by with all the knowledge he was able to impart upon us jumping from topics of the Classical and Post-Classical Maya, to mythology, to contemporary Belize itself. Anselmo also switched off perfectly between English and Spanish (our party had speakers of both), and made it work effortlessly. Once at the site, we had two full hours of further site specific history. it may seem like a lot, but we were engaged the whole time (and mind you, we were a little sleep deprived). Ultimately, there's no end to how charming, fascinating, and experienced Anselmo is. I've never had such a compelling tour guide. Then, of course, Caracol itself is massive! It's gorgeous, incredible, and no matter what your interests are, it's hard not to be impressed. To top it all off, folks at the Maya Walk tours home cooked and prepared a delectable chicken stew for us to have after viewing the ruins! If that's not hospitality, i don't know what is! On our way out of the site, we were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a jaguar! Lastly, as if all that weren't enough, Rio on pools, was such a special way to end the tour. It's long, but because every bit is enjoyable, there's no space or time or even desire to complain about a single thing. Thank you!

I was looking to escape the Chicago winters. And that is where Mayawalk helped. I booked 3 tours online. In hindsight, I should of booked in person since you can pay in cash (everywhere in Belize there is a credit card surcharge I was scared to bring cash to Belize because people were saying that Belize isn't safe but having just came back everywhere except certain parts of Belize City is very safe). The tours were fantastic. I took 3 different tours with them. ATM cave was physically challenging but so amazing with great scenery and unexpected experiences. We visited Xunantunich by horseback. And then in Caracol it was great with a stop at the waterfalls to swim. I love the fact that they let you fill up your water bottle before each trip. And they did it safely even offering helmets etc. After my third trip, I booked my shuttle back to Belize with them and since I lost my debit card, they helped me by exchanging the emergency cash I had brought from back home into Belizean dollars. Fantastic company and tour guides. Would highly recommend.

We loved our time at all 3 destinations. Our driver Lincoln and our guide Giselle (not sure the spelling) were accommodating, professional and prompt. The cave was much more enjoyable and wonderful than we had even anticipated. We thought it was simply a way to break up the drive but we were so impressed with the knowledge of our tour guide and all we were able to see.
The Caracol ruins were absolutely stunning. We spent enough time there to see everything we wanted to see and our tour guide Giselle was knowledgeable, relatable, and explained everything in a way we understood. The Belizean lunch was so delicious as was the rum punch!
Rio On Pools was another great stop. It had rained for several days in a row before we arrived so the pools were overflowing and the current in a few spots was strong but we swam and had a great time getting refreshed.
Our van broke down just a few miles from the office on our return but the owner brought another van in just a few minutes and we were on our way.
I would HIGHLY recommend this tour and MayaWalk Tours. Fantastic experience for all 6 of us.

We had a great day with Giselle and James! Giselle was very knowledgeable and James’ driving was faultless over rough terrain. Lunch was delicious. A great mix of history and swimming in the Rio Frio. A very professionally organised tour! Thank you!
