About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Traveler112100253370 contributionsMust do!!What a day! We’ve been there with Andy as our guide, a really passionate guy who knows a lot and tells it with a lot of enthusiasm. He recently joined the team, but he is a real professional and made sure you have a good time.Written October 4, 2024
- 938kierrak0 contributionsThe best TimeWe had the most amazing time at the ATM Cave. Our guide, Alex, made it 10000x better and more memorable for us. He had so much information about any question you could have. He also let us turn on our red lights on the way out of the cave, which was amazing. Alex is extremely educated and passionate about his job, and it shows. We are so happy we got Alex as our guide. The lunch was also amazing!!!Written October 3, 2024
- JudyM29470 contributionsWonderful tour, wonderful place, wonderful experienceI loved this tour so much. JC was an excellent guide, very experienced and very knowledgeable. I felt very safe! Can 100% recommend this tour.Written October 1, 2024
- dwjenpsych0 contributionsAwe inspiring cave experienceHad a wonderful day being canoed through a magnificent cave! Ended with a swim in the crystal clear water that flows into the caves. The water is filled with a variety of small to mid size fish and a saw a midsize turtle swimming close by. The Barton Creek area is so well maintained with labeled trees so you can learn about them. We were the only two people there with our guide so it was even more special. Our guide Jason was excellent. He as a great driver as we had to drive through two shallow rivers and on some rough roads that added to the adventure. He smoothly paddled us in the cave and provided information about the history and geological formations. A completely awesome day. Highly recommend Maya Walk tours for all you tour needs! We only had time for 3 tours but each one was well worth the time and cost.Written September 26, 2024
- audreg20210 contributionsAmazing day!!This cave tubing tour was absolutely amazing! From the amazing scenery to the wonderful guides it was a highlight of our trip! Our guide Jason was amazing and gave us so much history! Highly recommend booking with them for any excursion in Belize!! Thanks for a wonderful day!Written September 26, 2024
- lucianamC3915WD0 contributionsOnce in a Lifetime ExperieceThe place is awesome, and Juan Carlos really knows his stuff. He was knowledgeable about everything, from the Mayan Underworld to the animals that we saw to even the history of Belize as a whole. There was literally no question that he couldn’t answer, and would go in depth to make sure that we understood the full picture of what we were asking. Would recommend. It’s a once in a lifetime experience… and don’t forget to give your best to our by scooby 💀Written September 26, 2024

- heliza240 contributionsAmazing!Great day - well worth the money. Prepare to swim and climb through a beautiful cave to see the most surreal remains ever - feels like a museum out in the wild! Juan Carlos and Gio were great guides and driver: we felt very safe and confident that the cave and artefacts were being preserved and respected. Thanks!Written September 21, 2024
- dwjenpsych0 contributionsWonderful cultural experience with a great companyOur guide Andy was very knowledgeable, pleasant and patient. We did not actually do the horse back ride just the walking tour of the site. Very hot but some patches of shade to recover in while climbing the tallest ruin. Enjoyed the activity very much. Highly recommend the company. Very efficient. Clean air conditioned vehicle driven safely by Ronald. Prompt pickup at our home and drop off at the end of the morning.Written September 20, 2024
- 406anonymous12340 contributionsFantastic tour operatorMayaWalk is a fantastic tour operator! We did their day tours of the ATM cave and Tikal. Highly professional, on time, fantastic tour guides (shoutout Andy!), and responsive to your needs and preferences. We also used MayaWalk for a transfer from Belize City to San Ignacio. Our driver, Karim, was truly a highlight of our trip! He shared a ton of fascinating insights about Belize and took us to great local spots when we needed to stop for meals.Written September 18, 2024
- erikapB7098ZD0 contributionsYour life will be fuller if you take this tourAMAZING! An absolute must do on your visit Belize. Our guide (Richard) was phenomenal. He had so much interesting information: culture, history, botany, geology. And lunch after was delicious. I cannot recommend this highly enough.Written September 12, 2024
- 797romanov0 contributionsIncredible Adventure with MayaWalk Tours! We had an unforgettable day with MayaWalk Tours, guided by the amazing Edeoni. From the moment they picked us up at our resort, Edeoni shared fascinating insights into Belize’s culture, history, and local life. Our adventure started with an exhilarating zipline through the jungle, followed by a scenic hike where we learned about the native plants and wildlife. The cave tubing experience was thrilling, with time to swim and explore the caves and river along the way. The entire tour was well-organized, and the team was both professional and friendly. A must-do for anyone visiting Belize!Written September 12, 2024
- Culture627357407920 contributionsThe best adventure in BelizeIt was absolutely breathtaking😳. Edeoni took his time to show us everything and awnsered all our questions. The zipline, caves and river were all amazing. We had a great time!🚀Written September 12, 2024
- Mamabeau0 contributionsExceptional!! Unique experience!!I highly recommend MayaWalk! We were there with our 2 college-age daughters. MayaWalk was very professional and great to work with. Tate picked us up at our hotel, right on time. We had 2 guides, Hugh and Andy. They were both so knowledgeable and we asked if they could take us on the most difficult paths. What fun!!! We came across a tour from another company and it was appalling! The guide was brusque and yelled at the guests and in particular, a little boy who was afraid to climb up a big rock. We watched that group struggle to climb the rock. Conversely, Hugh told us exactly where to place our hands and feet, making it very easy. We were so thankful we were with Hugh and Andy and not that other tour company! We wore wetsuit socks under our sneakers, and water shoes, and that made a big difference in staying warm. Towards the end of the cave, others in our group were cold but we were fine. I highly recommend those socks. We also wore leggings under our shorts which made us more brave sliding down boulders. Just know that on your credit card, the bill name is Trust My Travel. I disputed the charge thinking I was hatched, but then found out it was MayaWalk. This tour was a highlight for our family. We seek adventure on our vacations and this fit the bill!!Written September 10, 2024
- 935kathrynv0 contributions11/10 - MUST DOEric is GREAT! The cave is AMAZING! the whole tour, UNFORGETTABLE! this might be the most adventurous and rewarding trip I've ever done. The history, the care, the magnitude is wild. Eric was the perfect guide calming fears and giving educational nuggets the whole time. His passion for the Maya and the ATM really made this experience 11/10. Also Jamal's food at the end was the perfect cherry on top -- truly our best meal in Belize. Will recommend to everyone and anyone!!Written September 8, 2024

I have been to quite a few Mayan sites in Central America so can compare well. This tour was exceptionally good in terms of its explanation of when and how we think Mayans lived there. My guide Anselmo was very knowledgeable about all the aspects of this Mayan site as well as some comparisons to other archeological sites for context: its historical context, the architecture, their religion, a feel for their lives, the things we don’t know about them, the nature reserve around the ruins.
Yet he also knows how to convey all of this in a very lively story that keeps your attention and fascination. He blended everything together into a nice day.
Note: I made a special request in advance to skip the other stops and spend all the availabile time at Caracol ruins so my review covers only that part of the standard tour offered. MayaWalk was very accommodating in explaining their various tours and setting up this adapted one.

We booked this tour based on other reviews posted on Trip Advisor and we were thrilled! Michael, our Maya Walk driver picked us up at our hotel. We met Abi, our tour guide, a few minutes later at the Maya Walk offices. Michael was a skilled driver who safely navigated difficult terrain to get us safely to Rio Frio Cave, Caracol and The Rio Frio Pools. Abi was very passionate about Belizian Mayan history, the history of the site, and the nature reserve surrounding the site . He also had a passion for native birds. Abi planned the Caracol site visit perfectly so that we had the ruins primarily to our group of six. We enjoyed a delicious local made Mayan chicken lunch after touring Caracol. Micheal and Abi setup the warm lunch at the conclusion of our site tour and even had a formal table cloth. We highly recommend this tour! Michael and Abi were a great team and made the trip even more special!

I was traveling by myself, and did the Caracol Mayan ruins tour with Maya Walk from San Ignacio. Ended up in a group tour (6 total) and had a fantastic day. Abi was our guide, and was very knowledgeable, helpful, polite, friendly. He covered it all VERY well. The driver, Jaheem, did an excellent job on, admittedly, some rough stretches of road.
The Caracol ruins were fantastic by themselves, and then the historical, cultural and natural (plants, animals, birds, soil) information shared by Abi made it even better. I really felt that I learned a lot today.
After the main tour, Jaheem and Abi served us a lovely lunch (veggie options available), then on our way back to San Ignacio, we stopped at Rio On pools, for a refreshing dip, and another cascade/waterfall, also available for swimming.
The van was also excellent, as was the companionship.
Abi & Jaheem were also so professional and courteous that they stopped briefly, to help another vehicle change the tire on THEIR vehicle, on the drive back. Nice people!

We did the ATM cave tour with MayaWalk and apart from one instance of slight unprofessionalism from the guide we felt it was great. The incident in question was that he threw his dry bag into the water from height unannounced while it was dark, which splashed my partner who was wearing contact lenses in the face.
We decided not to let this incident tarnish an otherwise good trip so we booked the Caracol tour through them a few days later.
After leaving San Ignacio we switched to a larger bus to join another group of 12 and carried on to the Rio Feio cave and Caracol. The tour at Caracol was good and lunch was fine. However, after leaving the Caracol site on the way to the final stop at the pools the guide casually mentioned that upon leaving we would drop the main group off first, which would mean an hour and a half detour before returning to San Ignacio. We told him we were not happy with this and he did call the office to arrange a pickup at the place we originally changed buses, but we feel that this is the way it should have been arranged originally and that we shouldn't have had to raise our concerns for it to happen. We got back to San Ignacio at 530, if we had not complained we would not have been back until 630/7.
We feel that for $125 per person this tour represented poor value and we felt that we had effectively just been lumped onto another group's private tour.

We had a great day with Giselle and James! Giselle was very knowledgeable and James’ driving was faultless over rough terrain. Lunch was delicious. A great mix of history and swimming in the Rio Frio. A very professionally organised tour! Thank you!

Originally, we were going to rent a jeep and drive ourselves to Caracol. I don't prefer being on someone else's schedule, and I read up on a site before visiting.
The road is a rough one, and the first time you drive a road like that you have to allot time to deal with the unforseen. Our driver Tate was an expert with the van, he drives it several times a week and can do it in his sleep. Our group got safely to all the stops with a minimum of harsh bumps or time stuck behind pokey drivers.
Jason who led us is a consumate professional. If you get him, you are golden. I learned enough in my reading to know he wasn't winging it. His style was relaxed, confident, and very personable.
We were very happy with our choice of tour operator and location.

We loved our time at all 3 destinations. Our driver Lincoln and our guide Giselle (not sure the spelling) were accommodating, professional and prompt. The cave was much more enjoyable and wonderful than we had even anticipated. We thought it was simply a way to break up the drive but we were so impressed with the knowledge of our tour guide and all we were able to see.
The Caracol ruins were absolutely stunning. We spent enough time there to see everything we wanted to see and our tour guide Giselle was knowledgeable, relatable, and explained everything in a way we understood. The Belizean lunch was so delicious as was the rum punch!
Rio On Pools was another great stop. It had rained for several days in a row before we arrived so the pools were overflowing and the current in a few spots was strong but we swam and had a great time getting refreshed.
Our van broke down just a few miles from the office on our return but the owner brought another van in just a few minutes and we were on our way.
I would HIGHLY recommend this tour and MayaWalk Tours. Fantastic experience for all 6 of us.

My family of 4 took this tour with our guide and driver, Anselmo Galicia. He was one of the best guides and drivers we have ever had. He had a seemingly inexhaustible knowledge of our tour sites and he was able to communicate his enthusiasm and knowledge with ease. He made this tour a remarkable day for all of us. You will not be disappointed with him as your tour guide and driver.

Gisele was such an amazing Tour Guide. She related to the group we were with and made the long bumpy ride very enjoyable and fun. We saw a lot of wildlife on the drive, and Caracol was one of the highlights of our entire trip. This is not one to miss if you are visiting Belize! The other tour guides were so helpful and knowledgeable.

Our second excursion of our trip with MayaWalk was the Caracol Ruins. Our guide was Damian and we were the only ones scheduled for the tour that day making for an intimate and very private experience. Damian is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the Mayan history, plants and animals of the area. He was very courteous and picked up quickly on what we were interested in and focused attention to those details. We shared personal stories and really connected on our tour. It was an amazing day and the tour is not only about the ruins, but also a stop at a cave and natural river fed pools. The lunch was amazing, fresh and homemade. We couldn’t have asked for a better tour or guide. Thank you so much!
