Travel back in time and experience what life was like in the city of Xunantunich, one of Belize’s most popular Mayan sites. This tour from San Ignacio takes you to San Jose Succotz, a Maya-Mestizo village located close to the Western Border and delivers you on an old-fashioned, hand-cranked ferryboat to the magnificent ruins deep in the Belizean rainforest. Admire astronomical carvings at El Castillo (The Castle) and sweeping views of the Belize River Valley and neighboring Melchor de Mencos, Guatemala once you’ve climbed the steep pyramid steps to the top! Hotel pickup and drop-off within San Ignacio Town are included.

ATM Caves with Belize Family Adventures was a total highlight
Actun Tunichil Muknal or ATM Caves were amazing thanks to our excellent informative good-humoured guide Gliss from Belize Family Adventures who kept us all safe with his expert guiding This tour required us to wear hard hats with head torches for most of it, walking on the flat on wide well cleared jungle paths for approx 1km to the cave entrance from the park entrance wading through three parts of a river, swimming (the only swimming required) for about 5m at the cave entrance and walking (plenty uneven terrain) and scrambling over rocks wading through water for more than 50% of the trail inside the cave, squeezing between rocks (quite tight in a few parts) for approx 2.5km inside the cave and the same in reverse to return to the park entrance Gliss pointed out the artefacts, some skeletal remains of the humans sacrificed and gave us a good outline of the Mayan culture Cameras including mobile phones are banned (only photos I took are of the guide Gliss and the huge cornfield en route) The only thing cave visitors are permitted is a water bottle that must not be left behind Be prepared to be wet throughout the cave visit and a bit cold when deep inside the cave Lunch prepared by the Belize Family Adventures staff was excellent Belizian rice with beans, chicken stew and coleslaw, a salad for the vegans/vegetarians This tour averages about 5h and most cave visitors are ravenous at the end Transport to and from our hotel was included We had an excellent driver Jamed who shared his knowledge about plants trees and agriculture in the region

        Caracol day tour
We were very lucky to have a private tour with the one and only Miguel! He made us feel so welcomed and shared so much of his mayan knowledge with us. He always took his time and also made us feel like there was no rush. We also appreciated the moments when he offered to take picture of us for our memories. The tour was truly amazing and the lunch included was very delicious. Thank you so much for a memorable tour!

        Guatemalan Vacation
We were on a family vacation with my son for his 18 th birthday. He was Adopted From Guatemala and we wanted to take him to see the ruins since he is Mayan. The first and the park was amazing. There are wooden steps on the back of several ruins that allow you to climb up them . There are bathrooms with water and other drinks throughout the park! It was nearly 120 degrees when we went last week June 6 th 2024. Must see but better we are told to go in November .

        Unique and challenging experience
ATM is definitely a unique experience. Our guide was very knowledgeable and interesting. The after cave lunch was quite good. A perfect ending to a long, tiring excursion. Because I’m a regular hiker, I thought this excursion would be pretty easy. While it wasn’t strenuous, it was more of a workout than I expected because of rock scrambles in the cave. Helpful hints….I could have used a shoe better than my very lightweight water shoes. A few hours of walking across rocky terrain plus walking in socks in part of the cave gave me some very sore feet. If you’re subject to motion sickness, don’t sit in the back of the transport van. The dirt road leading to ATM will test you.

        Awesome.
We had Ben as our guide. He was one of the first ten guides that led tours through the cave. He was very knowledgeable and clearly cares deeply about the cultural significance of caves. The cave was awesome. The water was just the right temperature. There were tight spaces and a far amount of scrambling but as a relatively fit couple in our 60s we had no trouble keeping up and took a far amount of ribbing about our age. Ours was a group of eight-- a nice, couple from Calgary and a sweet family of four from New York. They were great caving companions and Lily, the cook, made an awesome lunch. Definitely glad we did it and well worth the price for the experience. In case it's not made clear to you...you need socks...not water socks for part of the cave. Going barefoot is not an option if you care about preserving the caves interior....they are trying to protect the ground from the oils on your feet. Feel very fortunate to have gone while there are still a reduced number of guides leading tours. My understanding is that they will be doubling the number of visitors soon and I fear it will be overcrowded in the cave and disrupt the artifacts.

We can’t say enough good things about Marco, our guide.
Our tour guide Marco was amazing and we learned so much. We can’t recommend him, the driver Luis or the experience enough. We will be back to keep exploring.

        Amazing Tikal!
The guide was awesome. The Mayan structures were unbelievable. The tour company was pretty good. We were just not used to the heat, but we lucked out with going on a day with a nice breeze. There were sufficient stops for the bathroom and rehydrating as needed. Bring enough water and a pair of comfortable sneakers!

Paddle into this mysterious Mayan archeological site
We enjoyed the morning, from getting picked up from our hotel on time to just listening to our guide talk about Barton Cave as an important Mayan archeological site as we paddled in. He answered all our questions and was very kind to help us figure out how to paddle and navigate the environment. This activity also helped us get used to the heat because after our tour in and out, we cooled off in the creek. It is a really nice pls e to ease into the environment if you are not used to the heat. Refreshing!

Impressive location with skilled interpretive guide
A vast archeological site with impressive temples and structures and very few people visiting when we were there. Selwyn, our guide, is extremely knowledgeable and loves sharing the history of the site and explaining what we’re looking at. This particular tour, we also visited the Rio Frio cave and the Rio On pools on our return. Long day, VERY bumpy road, but well worth the time, especially thanks to our guide. I highly recommend this activity.

        Beauty is worth the pain
Chrystal Cave was absolutely beautiful and I would recommend it 11 out of 10. HOWEVER THIS IS A DIFFICULT TOUR. Make sure to ask for Selwyn; he is so patient and encouraging and there was no way we would have made it out of there with out him. DO NOT DRINK THE NIGHT BEFORE!!!! This is going to be harder than the hardest workout experience you have ever done. All this being said, the beauty of 100xs worth the pain. Make sure you go slow, take lots of breaks, bring more water than you think you would ever need, wear long pants and closed toe shoes. AGAIN go slowly and get Selwyn if you want to survive

        Once in a lifetime.
It is not for the infirm or small children. But if you can walk, climb a little it’s totally worth it. Don’t think twice. Only possible with a trained guide.

        Absolutely amazing.
I've taken guided tours of ancient ruins all over the would and our tour guide Antonio was absolutely, hands down the best. He brought Tikal to life with vivid descriptions of Maya society and it's inner workings. I would highly recommend not missing this tour with Antonio. And the lunch was great.

Challenging for a senior but 100% worth it!
What an experience! Patrick, our guide was not only knowledgeable of the cave and all that it contained but of the surrounding area plants, trees, birds and animals. Absolutely amazing.
