U Street Vegan Food and History Tour

By DC Vegan Tours
About
The first and only vegan food tour in Washington DC! Fun for vegans, vegetarians, flexitarians, even hardcore carnivores, as long as you've got an open mind and like to try amazing food! You'll explore a charming, historic part of the city in small groups led by a friendly local guide. This tour isn't for visitors who want to stick to the conventional tourist spots around the National Mall and Georgetown (those areas are well covered by other tours). We take you where DC locals live and eat, in spots around the U Street, Shaw, Columbia Heights, and Adams Morgan neighborhoods. We'll learn some of the fascinating history of the area and how it came to be such a hotbed of amazing vegan food, and we promise you won't leave hungry!

Great culinary trip along H street!
Max led us on a delicious tour - we are actually from the DC metro area but hadn't explored that neighborhood too much. We definitely learned some interesting new things regarding local history and discovered some awesome new-to-us restaurants. Neither one of us is vegan, but we often eat meat-free and are always game to try new things. We had a fabulous time and highly recommend the tour!

    Best Food Tour
Max led the best food tour I’ve been on! All the food was delicious, there was plenty to eat, the Art was super cool, the history was interesting, and Max was an amazing host. Whether you’re vegan or not even close, I’d highly recommend this tour!

    Awesome tour! Don't Miss!
My daughter and I had a wonderful time on this delicious tour. We loved walking around the historic neighborhood. Our guide, Max, shared lots of local stories and some great history. He also provided a wonderful variety of food and was easily able to accommodate one person who was GF. I would highly recommend this tour! Don't miss it!

This tour is so much fun. As a local to DC, this tour took me to places I had never been to before and Max is a great guide. I am not vegan (or vegetarian) and was slightly nervous as to what I was getting into before, but all of the food was delicious and I have returned to all of the spots since the tour. If you are in DC as a tourist, this tour is a great way to explore the other side of the city outside of the moments and museums. Could not recommend this higher. A+

My son and I went on the Vegan food and History (U Street) tour last night and we were so pleased we did. Max was a perfect host being vegan as well as very knowledgeable about the history of the area, and an all round nice guy. As a result of the tour we ended up seeing a part of DC that otherwise we wouldn’t have ventured to. I thoroughly recommend the tour irrespective of your dietary requirements as the food was varied and delicious, and the walk was fascinating. Make sure you are hungry before you start as there are 4 different food stops along the way. You won’t regret booking this whilst visiting DC or even if you live here.

I went on this tour not only to try out several different restaurants all at once, but to also get more familiar with DC. The tour guide was great, the food was delicious, and the history was a lot of fun. I recommend checking the weather forecast before signing up.

This tour was so much fun. A great way to learn about DC and eat some amazing food - whether you are local or visiting, vegan or not. I am vegan but the other guests on my tour were not, and I think we all agreed we ate some of the best food the city has to offer. Max shared lots of great facts about the neighborhoods and was happy to stop and take some insta-friendly photos near all the cool street art. I would recommend this tour to anyone in DC looking to spend the day with a local.

My friends and I had a great time on the U St food tour, and we thoroughly enjoyed each stop along the tour. There is a good mix of cuisines and types of food so that each stop feels novel and is still tasty.

We spent a day in DC and so glad we booked this tour! Saw neighborhoods we otherwise would have missed (& did miss on prior trips to the city). My Omni partner enjoyed the vegan foods, too. Here are a few pictures of the dishes - forgot to capture the Ethiopian plate! Go hungry and leave very satisfied.

This tour was quite simply fantastic. Max was an excellent guide and new so much about the city and its restaurant scene. The vegan restaurants he took us to were divine - especially the ethiopian restaurant at the end. I left the tour completely stuffed but the walking made me feel like I earned the meals. This tour was such a niche way to experience a city and I recommend everyone - vegan or not - to give it a go! Thank you, Max!!
