The Little Ethiopia Food Tour was specially designed for the adventurous eater. Some of the restaurants we visit are ‘hole in the wall’ spots, that focus on the quality and authenticity of the food, rather than the particular ambience of the restaurant. All of the restaurants were built and maintained through hard work and perseverance that resonates the pride of a people that have faced adversity yet managed to succeed. We will traverse through the center of Ethiopian life in Washington DC, located in the heart of the historic U Street and Shaw Neighborhoods. The 19th century neighborhood houses some of the area's very best and most authentic Ethiopian restaurants. Your Food Tour may include the following specialties: • Traditional breakfast • The Ethiopian National dish • Deep fried lentil appetizers • Fresh cottage cheese • Homeade breads • Coffee ceremony • Traditional meat and vegetable dishes • Hand Made hot sauces and spice blends • Italian influenced Desserts

      Awesome tour, even better guide
This tour was probably the best thing we’ve done around DC. Wayne is absolutely amazing. I would tour any place where he is the guide!

      Great guide, great food!
Despite the rain, our guide, Wayne, was excellent. The timing of the historical information and stops for dinner were nicely spaced. The three restaurants were very good and we had a good time with the other guests as well.

      Fun tour!
Guide was knowledgeable and personable. She took care to explain our menus prior to arriving at each stop of the tour. Food was a variety of menu types and enjoyable to eat.

The Best Way to Experience Georgetown
This was a great tour of Georgetown. I learned a lot about the history and sampled some of the cuisine of Georgetown. The Spanish Tapas at Bodega were Superb!!! The tour started at 3pm and ended at 6:30pm, so I got to experience Georgetown in the daylight and after sundown. Robert, the guide did an excellent job sharing his knowledge, and he kept us moving at a good pace.

      Great food and interesting history
Great food at 3 of the 4 spots and interesting historical facts. Mexican restaurant was not my favorite ( little too spicy and tasted just like any other Mexican food I have had) but other 3 places were amazing so totally worth it. My only other complaint was that the guide maybe told a little too much history and I felt a little rushed with my food at the last 2 places. For me it’s all about the food so that made give 4 stars instead of 5.

      Book this tour!
We had such a great experience on our Georgetown food tour! Our tour guide, Robert, was personable, professional, easy going, and full of local knowledge. You could tell he has a great relationship with all of the restaurants we visited. Both Robert and the staff at the restaurants were really thoughtful about accommodating my dietary restrictions. We visited 3 different restaurants, with drinks available for purchase at each one, and a bakery. The food and service were incredible at each place. You will definitely be full at the end of the tour! I would recommend DC Metro Food Tours, and Robert specifically, to anyone who loves exploring new places through food.

A Terrific Taste of Alexandria VA's Food and History
This was a terrific history and food tour of Old Alexandria, VA! We sampled many delicious and diverse dishes from a handful of local eateries while learning about significant events and interesting stories from this town's rich history. Special touches from our restaurant hosts included wine and the option to sample some unique cocktails. Terry was a warm and engaging host—knowledgeable and considerate from start to finish. Everyone on the tour clearly enjoyed the experience—it was great fun to eat and learn. (With no room left in our tummies for dinner :-). Thank you DC Metro Food Tours - and Terry!

Absolutely amazing. We had another lovely couple on the tour. Our tour guide was simply out of this world - he had so much information- he was funny and great.

      Okay
When guide was texted that we could not find her, she replied, “I am with the rest of the group.” Not helpful! She did not answer her phone. Another “lost” person saw a small group across the street.

First food tour and I was not disappointed!
Christian was our guide. He was great, down to his personality! The group we were with were all friendly. Stops were adequate. Wished the Mexican dish was not ice cold (it was a shrimp enchilada). The Italian stop was amazing! You got water at each location (as you sat and ate), so don't carry any with you. If you want to order "drinks" at each stop you should do so right when you sit down so you don't have to chug your drink before we leave...LOL Tour ended with a delicious macaroon stop, which was perfect!

      Tour guide no show
Unfortunately our tour guide did not show up. Nor did we get a text or call that they were not going to. We had to chase the food tour company down and then we had to request options for alternative ideas. Among the alternate options given to us (they sent us a self guided itinerary with 4 restaurants that were expecting us), we had to then request a partial cost because we were not getting the full tour - they agreed to this but we had to ask for it. Turns out the tour guide was quite ill but I still think someone should have reached out with an email or text. All the food tour participants were only in town for that day. Overall, I can't review it as we didn't get a tour. None of the restaurants told us any history of the food or significance of being in Alexandria but they all had food waiting when we got there. The Mexican restaurant was really good.

      Great food, Guide needs guidance
Our tour guide was very nice, knowledge, but there wasn’t much conversation in the beginning, it was just her talking about history, pop culture or politics, which wasn’t relevant or entertaining. It would have been a better experience if she spoke about the food and details behind the restaurants we visited. However, as time went on, our group got more chatty and we enjoyed the food at every spot.

Chris was a superb guide. He has a wealth of information about Ethiopian cuisine and DC. Even though I was familiar with Ethiopian food, I learned a lot from this tour. And, I found some new Ethiopian restaurants that I will definitely return to for dinner. This is this tour I've taken from DC Metro Food Tours and I highly recommend them.

Chris, a long-term DC resident, was a great guide, knowledgeable not only about Ethiopian food and culture but also about DC and wider US history. My husband and I were part of a small group of 6 people. We visited three restaurants and tasted a variety of different dishes over a period of just over 3 hours. We had a good time sampling the food, learning about it and having interesting generalconversations with the other members of the group. It felt well-paced, and we had a very pleasant morning.
