    Excellent
We had a great time on the Urban Oasis: Rock Creek Park Hike tour. Our guide was Carolyn, who was excellent. She was knowledgeable and friendly, and she had a real knack for conversation and putting people at ease. Her background in design really showed. We learned a lot about buildings, bridges, ruins, and other things. As it happened, the tour was through areas that I've spent a fair amount of time in, having lived in DC for about 2 years now. But I learned a ton of things I didn't know about the area, including places I had walked by dozens of times and hadn't noticed. In short, the experience was great and I can happily recommend it.

Historic Georgetown Tour was GREAT! And so was Kim!
Our tour guide was named Kim. She was fantastic! We chose this tour based on previous reviews and it didn't disappoint. Kim expertly lead us all over town. She took great care to make sure to answer all questions. She was informative, thoughtful and thought provoking in her words about this historic place in the history of our country. We were a mid-sized group of maybe 14 or so, I didn't count. Everyone was able to hear when she spoke. She managed to entertain and educate too! I'd take friends and do it again! I'm not sure why TripAdvisor calls this a Historic Georgetown Architecture Tour because on the DC Design Tour website this is a Historic Georgetown Tour which is more accurate. Sure we looked at architecture but the tour was all about the history of Georgetown.

If you have a spare couple of hours, take this tour!
We took a Capitol tour with Carolyn in April and we loved it - it was super jam packed with info and humor and we learnt SO much. I would totally recommend this to anyone.

Great guide, amazing views and an overall excellent experience
CHERRY BLOSSOM AND BASIN TOUR- Sam our tour guide was amazing. His knowledge of the area and the history was impressive. He is well spoke, friendly, focused and professional. He gave great background on the areas and spots we saw along the way. He is clearly excited about the subject matter which adds to his presentation. I went with a friend and she and I both very much enjoyed him and the tour. I would recommend DC Design Tours to all friends and family. Anyone interested in getting a better understanding of the areas they provide tours in should definitely sign up for one of their tours.

    Great Tour!
My family took the Bloom on the Basin: DC Cherry Blossom Tour. Our tour guide Sam was excellent. We did the tour in the downpour rain, but it was so worth it. The tour was so informative and entertaining. I will definitely book another tour with DC Design Tours next time I am in DC!

    Great walking Tour
Sam was a great tour guide showing a group of Architects and explaining the creator of Smithsonian Castle, Multiple Museums and a monument at the capitol with historical information and historical pictures from his phone. The tour is exterior observations of these buildings. Two hours of tour was worth it with all the special information. Highly recommend it. Kaya B.

Fabulous, informative tour of Georgetown with Sam
This is our 5th tour with DC Design Tours and they are 5 for 5!!! Sam was a wealth of knowledge, sharing fascinating facts about the Georgetown neighborhood, architecture, and famous inhabitants. Sam the guide was engaging, funny, and we thoroughly enjoyed listening to him share his knowledge with the group. We’re worldwide travelers and our DC Design Tours are some of the top tours we’ve taken anywhere!!!

Awesome, unique idea for a date!
This was so informative and fun! Carolyn had such a warm, friendly personality. I’m a citizen but my friend is a visitor from abroad- she made the tour interesting for both of us.

    Very interesting - most enjoyable
On Sunday morning we were fortunate to do the George Town tour with Sam from DC Design Tours. We were very impressed with the sites that had been obviously very carefully chosen to illustrate the history and significance of the area. We we even more impressed with Sam, our guide. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable and insightful, but he has a great sense of humour. He also speaks loudly and clearly so we had no trouble hearing him. We have done a great many walking tours over the years in many countries, so we feel we are very good judges of walking tours and guides. We were very impressed

Fascinating and wonderful Tour of an iconic DC neighborhood
We have taken several DC Design Tours throughout the years and find them all to be informative, interesting, and educational. The tour guides are all very knowledgeable and typically have backgrounds in history or architecture. They have fascinating information to share about the area exploring that your would never find in a "google search". We live on 16th Street and found the Adams Morgan and Meridian Park Tour to be excellent and very informative. Can not wait for our next exploration with DS Design Tours!!!!!

    Fabulous walking tour of Georgetown.
This was a fabulous tour. We had never been to Georgetown and this walking tour was the perfect way to see it. Our guide focused on the architecture and history, telling us fabulous stories about the houses, their styles, residents, and history of the times. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, with a great sense of humor and ability to communicate with the group. This was definitely a highlight of our visit to Washington. Highly recommend.

    A Day in Washington DC
I arranged a private tour to cover all of the major buildings and sights of the Washington DC area. Visiting from the UK and staying in Baltimore, it was a one day opportunity to pack in as much as possible. My guide for the day was Christine, who was extremely knowledgable about the history and architecture of the area, and a great companion for the day. I don't know how she remembers everything. In just over 7 hours, we covered Union Station, the Supreme Court, Library of Congress, Capitol Building, Pennsylvania Avenue, the Old Post Office Tower, the White House, the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and many other buildings and locations as we passed by. Luckily there was also time to see inside the Library of Congress and have a tour of the Capitol Building, with Christine timing things to perfection. Tired feet, but lots of great memories and photos to take back home.

Brand New Rock Creek Park Tour is a Fantastic Experience!
I went on the brand new tour of Rock Creek Park and I highly recommend it. Carolyn, a trained architect, was able to show us how the park was designed to fit into the neighborhood, meticulously planned to feel natural, and influenced the design of much larger national parks throughout the country. The park trails are challenging if you do not hike much but, if you do, are super fun. Even though it was a hot day, the trails were all shaded with cool breezes going through them. Carolyn really helped us connect to the park in a way that I hadn't realized was possible, and I have lived in the area my whole life! This new tour is a great way to connect to the city in a way that you really can't get anywhere else!

Excellent Rock Creek Park Walking Tour
I took the brand new Rock Creek Park tour today. I would highly recommend this to tourists who want to experience this urban park. Our group were locals who love this park and wanted to learn more about it. I don’t think people realize it is a National Park. We started at the entrance to the National Zoo. Next we walked down Connecticut Avenue to two Historic DC apartment buildings to discuss the architecture. Then we walked to a hidden entrance to reach the new Klingle path in Rock Creek Park. Carolyn provided so much information about the Klingle Mansion, the Peirce mill, the remnants of old mills, the Boulder Bridge, and more. We learned how Theodore Roosevelt often practiced speeches in the park and made diplomats swim in the creek. There is a section in the park where you hike uphill in a rugged area with lots of underground growth so you should wear good shoes. This is a atypical hiking tour for DC Design Group. I highly recommend it!

As a history buff whose been on history tours across states and countries (Egypt, Italy, France, England, Turkey, Japan, etc.), I wish everywhere had their own "[insert city] Design Tours" led by Carolyn and Sam!
My first tour was Dupont Circle and Embassy Row with Sam which I enjoyed so much that we signed up for DC Design's Historic Georgetown Tour. Carolyn expertly and enthusiastically guided us in Georgetown and again for their Cleveland Park Neighborhood tour - a new addition we were so pleased to see! Almost everyone in that group had previously taken tours with DC Design Tours, so we are not the only group that keeps coming back to Carolyn and Sam for more! Both are amazing tour guides, extremely knowledgeable and personable. I am so happy with the three tours I have been on that I am determined to take every tour they offer - absolutely well worth more than the ticket cost. Tour with DC Design - loved by locals!!

Had always wondered about the history of the Dupont Circle area, DC Design Tours was listed on another local tour guide site, so when I noticed the chance for a private tour I jumped at it.

Our tour guide Sam was on time, and very polite. As with other local tour guides, he was very knowledgeable with all kinds of interesting snippets of information on the architecture we were being shown.

The tour was around 2 - 2.5 hours, we wasn't really keeping time tabs, it was our last big event of the day. Be prepared for lots of info, and a few hills.

At the end of the tour we asked Sam for a few dinner spot recommendations, and he gave us many, we visited two and both were rather excellent.

I'd recommend to anyone visiting DC that enjoys architecture to look into the architecture tour, it was informative and fun.

I just moved to DC and, as an architecture lover, thought that taking a design tour would be a wonderful way to immediately see and learn more about the city I'll be calling home. I signed up for the Embassy Row and Dupont Circle tour with Sam, and it did not disappoint!

The tour route itself took us to many incredible sites in the neighborhood, and Sam told fascinating historical stories about each one. As a guide, he was gregarious and thoughtful. I was even 15 minutes late to the tour because I moved from California and my Google Calendar hadn't updated the time zone, but Sam called me to check in and waited until I got there to begin the tour. :)

A note about walking, time, and distance: the tour is two hours long, but most of the time is spent admiring the buildings while listening to the tour guide relay the history and stories behind them. You won't be walking for two hours!

Overall, I left feeling more knowledgeable about and attached to D.C., and I'll definitely be booking more tours with DC Design Tours in the near future!

We planned a D.C. trip for my 67th birthday and wanted to make the most of our visit. I thought a night walking tour to the memorials would be a good option so we booked with DC Design tours. Sam led us on a wonderful two hour fact-filled, heart-felt, and really enjoyable tour of the monuments and memorials. We could tell that he loved history and he conveyed that well during our tour. We were delighted we chose DC Design Tours! Thanks very much to Sam for his expertise and delivery. Time and money WELL spent!!

Carolyn was an excellent guide - she really knows her stuff! I organized a private tour for a group of friends that consisted mostly of DC natives (communication was easy and efficient in organizing the tour). Even with all of our existing local knowledge, Carolyn was able to wow us with tons of information on the architecture in the Dupont Circle / Embassy Row area, and on top of that had numerous stories about the fascinating historical figures that occupied the neighborhood in the 19th and 20th centuries. Carolyn has clearly done a lot of research and is passionate about her work - she had an answer for nearly every question we fired at her! I would heartily recommend Carolyn and DC Design Tours to DC residents and visitors alike!

I have attended several versions of DC Design Tours and continue to be impressed each and every time. In a city where the tallest monuments dominate the skyline, these tours really bring a unique perspective of what's in between the eye catching sites. Often pointing out less obvious features of buildings and architecture, their commentary definitely highlights design elements otherwise overlooked by traditional tour companies. As a local, this tour kept surprising me and I have also brought out of town friends who were thrilled to experience DC this way for the first time. What's been most important to me is how Carolyn and her staff are truly professional. You can tell these programs are designed and led with great integrity and passion by folks who are local to and love their city. Sam even had a few good jokes that made me laugh out loud! Top of the line experience in DC - worth every dollar and happy to support this small business who is making a huge impact.

If I could SIX stars, I would! Carolyn was engaging and fun. Her extensive knowledge of the area is demonstrated by her masterful commentary about every building along the way. More importantly, her insights about the neighborhood and the history of DC between each stop was so impressive it seemed like we were walking with the most entertaining host imaginable. I cannot recommend Carolyn and her tour company enough. Buyer your tickets now!

We did a private Dupont Circle / Embassy Row tour with Sam and it did not disappoint. Despite having been born and raised in DC, we learned so much about our city that left us unable to look at any of the buildings we routinely pass by in the same way! We very much appreciated Sam's knowledge of architecture and history and had a blast on the tour -- it was a Saturday evening very well spent. Would highly recommend for DC natives and tourists alike.

Really enjoyed learning the historical significance of the magnificent buildings in and around DuPont Circle. The enticing stories of the original owners and subsequent residents were a window into the diversity and power that occupied this area of the city. Highly recommended!

I’ve taken the Cleveland Park and Dupont Circle/Embassy Row tours with Carolyn and am looking forward to more on my next trip to DC. She clearly mines libraries and media for the most intriguing historical nuggets.

Her talks, delivered with enthusiasm, humor, and illustrations, are packed with stories, historical context, colorful characters, and attention to design. I also see her generate a friendly group vibe among the tour group. A great way to spend a couple hours in DC!
