We arrived to the bus, where the parked driver said that the other bus had left without us. We didn’t get to attend the tour. Hopefully we will get a refund.Written November 22, 2024
- Go283111085670 contributionsAmerica the AweinspuringThis was an impromptu tour. I decided on giving a chance as I was visiting in Arlington and the Washington DC area by myself while awaiting a next day flight out of Ronald Reagan Airport. I am disabled with limited mobility but i really wanted an opportunity to see with my own eyes many of the historical monuments and sites of significant American Pride. As a night tour is basically drive by touring it got me a close as able to see these remarkable American Marvels. The 15 minute stop at the Lincoln Memorial/ Washington Monument was absolutely breathtaking. Due to my disability the walk from the bus to the point of interest was a bit more difficult than I should have done on my own. But this was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me so I pushed my capabilities in order to see these amazing sites with my own eyes. I paid the price with a couple days of leg and spine pain from pushing a bit too much. But I have no regrets. Doing this tour gave me such a feeling if personal and independent accomplishment. I’m so glad I did not allow my disability the opportunity of witnessing these beautiful monuments honoring Great American Leaders.Written November 11, 2024
- LePug0 contributionsDisappointing & a LetdownIt was basically the same route they drive in the daytime but with a [very ] few comments about ghosts or murders. Since it is at night, you cannot really see any of the buildings or places they point out. Disappointing! Next time we will try an actual walking ghost tour.Written October 30, 2024

Got really cool night pictures, Especially of the Washington monument reflecting on the pool. Bus guide also took us to Iwo Jima memorial as an extra treat. Would highly recommend. Being a senior, needed to use the restroom at the Lincoln Memorial which means it's difficult to do both that and run up to see the Lincoln memorial. Stops were made along the way, and voice recordings were played. I found the stops close to most places of interest, but the bus wait times and lack of places to sit while waiting terrible and very inconvenient. Most, all my ticked (Sunset, Wharf, and Georgetown EXPIRED the day I started my Big Buss 3 day pass!!!! I start the bus on a Wednesday. I had scheduled Whatf to Georgetown, and back, and Sunset for the following Sunday. When I started the bus, ALL tickets started and Expired after Wednesday. There is NO customer support on Weekends, and The chat service is an automated best response system. If you ask the chat for the support number, it responds with phone support is NOT available. Ok, the short version.
Doing a bus tour like this is one of the best ways to see a place like DC and learn about the history and architecture.
It's not cheap, at least it wasnt cheap for us, but it is definitely worth doing.
Now, the longer version.
We arrived into DC at about 3PM on a Thursday, considering the last BigBus set off at around 4.30 (ish) we decided we'd wait till the following morning to get our ticket so we could get more value for our money..
We got stung in Budapest before, buying tickets and only getting about an hours worth of use before the last bus left.
I'm seeing various prices online, some look cheaper that we paid but our tickets were €50 each. As far as we knew this was just for Hop On- Hop Off, it didnt include admission to the wax museum or anything..at least if it did, the agent who sold us our tickets didnt mention it.
We spent the first few hours we had in DC walking around the main mall checking out the Washington memorial, WW2, Lincoln & a few other smaller ones..
It was a beautiful crisp winter's afternoon so we didnt mind walking around DC between memorials.
The following morning jumped on at the bus at about 11am from at the White House stop and taking it up to the train/bus station where it parked up for 10 minutes before setting out, this time with our tour guide. Tom Thompson.
Although there is automated commentary, we happily tuned into Tom's channel to hear take on the capitol.
He has jokes and lots of info about the buildings and city and some intersting nuggets of nature trivia too.
We were very lucky with the day we got. Had it been raining, I'm not sure we would have loved our short trip as much.

My wife and I along with two friends took the Red Bus loop earlier this month (March). The BB rep. at Union Station was not friendly and in fact quite curt. However the tour guides on the bus were engaging, especially an older man whose name I can't recall but he did say he was a long-time Washingtonian. The reason I'm giving a poor rating is because of something I read on the brochure afterward that quoted a price of $40 per adult vs the $50 we paid online. When I questioned BB in an email I was told the brochure was "probably out of date" and that online booking offered the best discounts. I was hoping for a total refund of $40 but it doesn't appear I'll be getting one.

I traveled on Big Bus on June 21 and 22, 2022 at Washington DC. I was in a party of 6 with 2 children less than 5 years old and 2 older adults over 70 years old. We had a 2-day ticket booked for all 6 of us so that we could visit all the monuments at our leisure given the slow pace of the children and older adults. Day 1 went off without issues. We were given a printed ticket that looked like a receipt on day 1 which I had in my pocket all day. When we returned for day 2, there was no information that we were supposed to hold onto this printed receipt. Apparently, the email confirmation with the QR code does not substitute for a ticket once it has been converted into a printed form. This is an extremely archaic and meaningless practice since many of us now have converted to an electronic form of communication. When we attempted to get onto the bus at Washington Monument on day 2, we were confronted by the bus driver that we were apparently trying to get onto the bus without a ticket. I showed him the email confirmation for the 2-day package for 6 people including the QR code. He accused me of lying and that I had no proof. I was not told to carry the paper ticket with me on day 2. Regardless, there should be another mechanism to print this ticket out if that is of such prime importance since it is ridiculous to think that we have to carry this piece of paper around for 2 whole days. Furthermore, he told us to get onto the bus stating that, "I am doing you favor by letting you on the bus and will let you off where you want. You will not be allowed to get back on after that". This is extremely disrespectful and not at all customer friendly. We were treated very poorly by this driver. When we got off at White House, we spoke with a local ground agent who was profusely apologetic and attempted to help us. The bus driver walked past nonchalantly and told us that he could not care less about our situation. Unfortunately, despite company policy, he did not have a badge and I could not get his name. I have taken pictures of him both inside and outside the bus for proof. I have discussed this extensively with the ground agent, but I am not sure if this has been relayed. I have not heard back from them nor had any subsequent follow-up. This is extremely disappointing and cause extreme amounts of agony and suffering for my older parents and young children who were stressed out by heated conversation. Furthermore, I do not expect customers who have paid their dues to be treated so poorly and being blatantly accused of lying. Unfortunately due to these issues, we will have never travel with this service again. I will also attempt to speak to as many family and friends that I can regarding this, so as to spread the word regarding the poor service offered by this agency.

Do not waste your money on this company!
We purchased combo tickets for the day, that included night tour.
At our check in the bus driver wasn’t very friendly, actually looked pretty annoyed.
During the day we did one full loop on the red line. We chose not to hop off the bus, because we noticed that they were people waiting at the bus stops, for whom there was no seating and they were left to wait for next bus, which could be easily be full too!
We were told that the night tour starts at 7pm. We were at the bus stop at 6:45pm just to see extremely long line of people waiting. When we showed our tickets to the employee for check in we were told that if we want to take the tour we must be seated inside, because all seats on the deck are already reserved. We asked if we can use our tickets on the next day, but they don’t offer it every night. So we asked for refund and we were told, that because we purchased the tickets on their website we should call the office and ask for refund. Of course at 7pm office was closed. So we decided to take the tour anyway. What a mistake! It turned out that their is no AC on the first floor of the bus and windows can’t be open! We were all in sweat in no time! On top of this there was stupid emergency sign on my window that interrupted the view further!
You will hear exactly the same information during the night tour as the day one.
Overall not worth it!
I will not recommend this company and especially the night tour to anyone!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. On the day you traveled, we were running a 15-minute schedule. The day tour provides an opportunity to hop on and hop off and be picked up at those 15-to 20-minute intervals. We are sorry you did not get to experience the full benefit of the service. While some aspects of the day and night tour are the same, the Night Tour takes you on a different experience in other parts of the city and ends back with the monuments at night. Since it is pre-recorded you will have some aspects of the tour that are familiar. Thanks again for the review.

We have been on the bus tour a few times and LOVED it! Parked at Union Station, bought tickets and hopped on and off many times all day.
For this visit, there's nowhere listed on the website where to park. We got on at the Madame T stop and there's no bus stop sign! We asked folks inside stores that work nearby and they didn't know.
The app and website states there's movement every 8 minutes, false: it's an hour between buses. If you hop off you wait an hour. So disappointing. The whole point of the bus is to see the sites (or at least more than a few).
The bus driver doesn't state where you are when the bus stops, when the next bus is coming, no helpful tips at all, like I am used to! Formerly they were very engaged.
We sat and enjoyed a bus ride (for $88) and got off a few stops in and opted to not get back on.
I fully realize we are in a time of a pandemic and many of the museums were closed. But, many are open also! If they are going to run the buses, they should be honest about the routes and times. The operation of the bus tour has completely changed and I would not recommend it. This is so unfortunate.

We are sorry we did not meet your expectations. The Big Bus Tours app and website is very clear that we operate an hourly schedule. Currently, we are operating at higher frequencies on the weekend Thursday-Sunday. During this time, the only museums open were paid attraction museums. Our first stop is L'Enfant Plaza, where the Spy Museum is located. As it stands several more museums have opened as the city has eased restrictions. Please follow our app for live bus tracking, bus routes and stops. Please come back and visit.

Beware! Extremely disappointed with this bus tour service. After buying tickets in advance (as recommended) for Memorial Day weekend, when boarding the bus, we were told we would be unable to view any of the monuments due to Memorial Day weekend events and the second route was closed entirely. This rendered the tickets useless, and after contacting the customer service was told I would not receive any refund or partial credit, even though the limited tour availability was not clearly stated on the website or app. These road closures were due to pre-planned holiday events in the city and there is no excuse for not notifying customers when they book tickets for such dates. This was terrible customer service and as a frequent global traveler, I will never be using this company again and would recommend you don't either.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us! We're truly sorry to learn that you weren't able to fully enjoy the benefits of your tickets and that the road closures created some trouble for you. We strive to keep our website current with any potential disruptions. If a refund isn't an option, we do our best to provide alternative solutions. We sincerely hope you'll think about giving us another opportunity down the line!

We are very disappointed with today’s experience (Friday July 29th). I guess it fulfilled its function as described, however not worth the price at 54 dollars a head.
First off, the app with live updates is totally inaccurate, and when I asked an employee to advise re expected time of next bus arrival this app is what is used aswell- ie was inaccurate.
The first bus had lots of rubbish on the lower level (in bags, but also discarded earphones in seats).
The second bus we got on at stop 3 was crowded, so we sat downstairs. Again fair enough, but on a hot humid day the AC fans above our heads were non functional, and the open windows allowed the engine outflow to wash over us whenever the bus was stationary- hot and full of fumes, I was glad we had our masks. Due to evening traffic, there were a lot of these stationary periods.
To run salt in this uncomfortable wound, a completely empty bus passed us by, and followed along both in front and behind our current bus at various times, but did not allow anyone on, even as it became standing room only in our bus (despite the safety messages advising to stay seated at all times, as per the law.).
This also made it difficult to see what was in the other side of the sightseeing bus.
Overall it feels like we wasted time and money on this tour that we’ll never get back.
Next time we’ll try scooters or the local bus system to get around what is a fairly compact central zone.
I think the quality of the buses and organising needs serious improvement of it is to be worth this price.

Hi there! We truly value your feedback. We're sorry to hear that you encountered some difficulties with the app, had to wait a long time for the bus, and didn't feel at ease during the tour. We want to let you know that we've made some improvements to our app, including a live tracking option for buses. Plus, our bus fleet has been upgraded, and we've increased our frequency to every 30 minutes. We encourage you to try us out again in another city or in Washington DC. I haven't even purchased my ticket and have had a horrible experience with their customer service. There was an obvious glitch with their website today, trying to check out, preview shows me the 10% advertised online discount, but as soon as I enter my contact information and log in, the price jumps to full price and the discount has been eliminated. I "live chatted" with a staff person for at least 2 hours today, and she kept coming up with poor excuses, even though I was showing her screenshots of what was happening. She finally admitted that maybe there was something wrong with their website and I should email their general email address and their IT dept. could look into it. All she had to do was give me a 10% discount code, because there was an opportunity for me to manually enter one, but she refused. Also, their website wasn't letting me "empty my cart," so she had to manually empty it for me at least 8 times. Again, there was clearly something wrong with their website. So after messing around with this for about 2 hours today, I still don't have tickets because I refuse to give in and pay full price for a product that has shown me a discounted price right before checkout.

Buses were overcrowded, we weren't able to get on the first one that pulled up and had to wait for the next. Bus driver ignored request from another family to be let off when they couldn't find seats and drove with small children standing in the stairwell. The busses aren't airconditioned, the seats outside were so hot they were uncomfortable to sit on. The narrated tour was mediocre. Not worth the money at all, get a guide book and ride the city busses around which are cheaper, airconditioned, and have more comfortable seats.

Hi, djiboliz!
We appreciate you taking the time to leave us with your honest feedback, and we're truly sorry for how your tour in DC was affected by the overcrowding, facilities and audio commentary. Our staff goes through training sessions to avoid such situations in the future, and our bus fleet has been expanded to ensure everyone gets to enjoy their tour as intended. What's more, we've made some exciting changes to our audio experience, which we think will make the tour much more enjoyable! If you'd reconsider joining us for another tour, we'd be happy to have you see these changes for yourself!

If I could give zero stars I would. This is an audio tour so there is no guide giving you helpful/useful information. If you seat in the center seat, there isn’t even a plug for your earplugs. Most of the tour is music. It was so disappointing. There are no maps, so you don’t know where you are going unless you download the app. They drop you off far away from the destinations. For instance, the closest exit by the White House is like half a mile away. The buses come every 30 minutes so it’s almost faster to walk from stop to stop instead of waiting for a bus. It is cheaper to book online than get on the bus and pay but there are no signs for that except in the bus. We waited 30 minutes for the first bus to pick us up, we would have booked online if there was a sign at the stop and saved time and money. Some stops when we picked up people we had to wait 10 minutes because everyone was buying tickets. This by far was the worst tour bus I have ever been on.

It doesn’t sound like you experienced the best we have to offer. The app is very helpful in setting expectations. It shows you the stops and their proximity. For instance the closest stop to the White House would be stop # 8 which is directly across the street from the White House. We believe that having all of the right info before touring is vitally important. Please try us again when the conditions are more favorable. We appreciate your business.

Are you able to ride the buses all day? I was hoping to get off at certain stops, enjoy some time there and jump back in the bus for the next stop

Very simply the answer is yes !!
As it’s a hop on hop off for precisely that
Book and enjoy

We took the Metro into the city. The parking at the Metro was just $5 for the day. The subway has stop right near Stop 1 of the bus. Made it really easy.

I purchased a delux ticket for March 28&29 why does my ticket say departure time of 7 pm?
Written March 17, 2022
I am just guessing, you may have bought the evening ticket.

Just to clarify, you purchase the deluxe ticket and for 2 days you can hop on and off as much as you like at each stop. Spend an undetermined amount of time at any given stop, then wait for the bus at the stop to go to another location? So why does the tour state its an hour and 30 minute?
Written February 26, 2022
The audio tour or the total trip (staying on the bus) may be only a hour and 30 minutes total. Just a guess. Their app shows you the location of buses so you can see when the next is coming. Be very careful about the end of day, you can get stranded if the last bus is past. We almost did.

Can I get on the bus near Farragut West metro stop?
Can I get off at the Vietnam memorial?
What is the one day itinerary?
Thank you!

You can get get to the Vietnam Veterans memorial through the bus tour. It is a short walk northeast of the Lincoln Memorial. The website for the tour gives you all of their stops. Just cross reference it with the metro stop.
We used the electric scooters to help get us around some areas. Once you figure out how to use them they were fun to use.
