This Beachcomber day trip offered us the best of Marlborough Sounds. Catamaran to Ships Cove, time to look around, on to Furneaux Lodge for coffee then 12 km coastal walk to Punga Cove for pizza and beer, catamaran trip back to Picton.
Excellent on board commentary, comfortable craft, wonderful walk...
Thanks to Phil and Beachcomber team.

Did the trip from ship cove to Furneaux lodge. On the boat cruise we saw dolphins, blue penguins, seals and different birds. Really a great experience!

Booked online in advance with the company to take me to ship's cove and pick up from fernueaux lodge for part of the QCT hike. They have seating upstairs which is outside so you get a lovely view of the sounds. They took the boat to a place where dolphins were recently sighted on the way and saw 4 dolphins (one was a calf!) Was so excited as I had never seen dolphins before so was great they make the effort to try and show you some of the sea and bird life.
Drop off and pick up was prompt and left plenty of time to complete the ship's cove to fernueaux lodge hike. Would definitely book with them again.

Hi kpatel8778 Thank you so much for your awesome TripAdvisor Review! We are very pleased to hear that you had an excellent time out on the Queen Charlotte Track with us! Its great to hear that you saw dolphins on the way, it really does add to the enjoyment of the days adventure, and makes for those special memories. And thanks for your comments about our new boat, we recently added more seating to the upstairs so that more people can enjoy the views as we go along. We like to leave plenty of time for our guests to do the walk so im glad to hear that you took advantage of that, we like to think that by allowing plenty of time we give our guests more of an experience rather than just a water taxi in and out - sounds like you enjoyed it! Enjoy the rest of your trip

Beachcomber Cruises offer a well organised and excellent service for walkers and bikers self guiding on the Queen Charlotte Track. I took the cruise to the start of the track along the beautiful Queen Charlotte Sound. The skipper gives a knowledgeable commentary with dry humour. We had the bonus of stopping to view a pod of Hector Dolphins.

The track itself which two of us biked over 3 days while one of us walked over 4 days is magnificent with lovely views, native bush & birdlife. The track is of moderate ability with good sign posting. The track enables wilderness experience during the day and comfortable catered accommodation during the evening.

We had a fabulous time on this walking adventure - the ferry ride is very convenient to Picton's main activities, the staff were friendly (they even remembered my name), our captain had lots of interesting facts, good humor, and trivia about the sound and journey to Ship Cove. The ferry is not luxury, but very clean with plenty of seating inside and up on deck (for a tan). Take a jacket, it can get cold on top.

Once at Ship Cove, expect a good 1.5 mile uphill trek. It's pretty steep and you'll get an excellent thigh exercise for sure! The views are spectacular, once you think you've found the most beautiful view, here comes another! Once you reach the top (about 1.5 miles up), it's mostly downhill with small sections up/downhill or even the rest of way. It took us a solid 3 hours to do the trek to Furneaux Lodge (and we're fast walkers) and we were very happy to get there when we did - it's a tiring walk.

The Furneaux Lodge is exactly that, a lodge with sleeping accommodations, a bar/restaurant, and lovely peaceful views for the return ferry pickup. We got to spend about 2 hours here which was very nice and relaxing especially with wine, salad, wine, and some more wine.... Beachcombers calls ahead so the staff at the Lodge lets you know the ferry is about 20 minutes out so you can make your way to the dock for pickup.

Could not have asked for a more pleasant ferry and walking trip - highly recommend!!

We booked the Ship Cove to Furneaux Walk, 15km of challenging walking. A one and a half hour boat ride through the sands to get to the start point. You are given ample time to meet the returning boat. The walk is amazing, a tough start, all uphill but a sensible pace with stops to look at the views it is really rewarding. Take snacks and plenty of water, nothing until you get to the end. Reward a cold beer at the lodge.

It was a pretty gruelling walk for young kids, gotta say. But loved the kiwiana-ness of it. No fuss. Dropped off on the beach and the walkers just kind of shrugged and got on with it. Great views (of course) and beautiful bush and bays.

Walk was easy for us 70-year olds. 11.5 k and took us 3.5 hours including a picnic lunch at one of a number of picnic tables en route. Absolutely awesome views all the way. Had plenty of time at Punga Cove to enjoy a beer and coffee before the boat picked us up. A great day.

This is a great service to get to Ship's cove to start walking the Queen Charlotte Track with free luggage transfers and pick up when finished. We were lucky to see a pod of dolphins and the boat stopped and lingered so we could watch for a bit. Very informative commentary too.
