- 162belindas0 contributionsWow. Lady Ann cruise was fantastic! We took a cruise on Lady Ann from Picton up to Cook's Landing at Ship Cove, where we stopped for a wander around, and were then dropped at Torea Bay. What an amazing day we had. The pre-planning was a breeze with the assistance and helpful advice from Becky along the way. On the day we were treated to a very memorable experience. The boat itself is fantastic. Mark, Courtney and Flame looked after us so well - we wanted for nothing. We saw penguins, dolphins, seals, and gannets. We ate food that looked beautiful and tasted as good as it looked. I highly recommend this company. I do not often post reviews, but feel the memories we were given of a very special day, and how well treated we were, is deserving of praise. Thank you so much to the team at Beachcomber Cruises for looking after our team so well. A definite highlight of our trip.Written September 19, 2024

- Discover629772728030 contributionsMAGIC Mail Boat Cruise - the best adventure in all of Picton! The cruise of our DREAMS! Stunning views, small tour size, friendly and informative staff. We were greeted at the counter and shown a map of the Queen Charlotte Sounds, boarded the boat and took off. We saw dolphins, seals and Blue Cod! The sun went down on the trip back. A perfect afternoon!Written July 8, 2024
- JonnyM24680 contributionsFantastic company for Queen Charlotte TrackFantastic service from Beachcomber. Booked some pickups/drop offs and bag transfers for the Queen Charlotte track. It was the start of the 'quiet season' but they were more than happy to accommodate and still had busy boats for the day tours. Excellent communication via email and clear instructions on the day from office staff and skippers. All staff super friendly and knowledgeable. They were flexible enough to pick us up earlier when we arrived to the pickup point a bit sooner than we had planned which was really appreciated at that time of year. Would highly recommend them for any shuttles or tours in the sounds. CheersWritten June 8, 2024

- Global255284874940 contributionsFantastic QC walk and viewsShip Cove to Furneaux Lodge 17km walk It takes about an hour to get there and back on the smaller boat, depending on the mail drop/ pick up. It was a pleasant trip with lots of commentary on history and facts. The walk takes about 5 hours with a few breaks in between. It's intermediate level with a couple of uphills at the start. Beautiful views and seats to rest along the path. The track wasn't as well maintained as thought, but still very doable.Written April 28, 2024

Greg the skipper was a local fisherman who was an excellent guide with plenty of local knowledge and experience. The boat is dry, comfortable and safe. We saw some great out of the way places and people, all excited to be receiving the mail. Highly recommend. Ps. Office staff were a delight to talk to, also very knowledgeableWritten April 15, 2024
- mjh9760 contributionsBeautiful half day tripLoved the half day trip to Ship Cove. Very lucky with the beautiful weather. Saw a penguin but no dolphins due to the time of year. Could easily hear the commentary from the top deck but was harder to hear inside the boat. Would have loved to stay a little longer at Ship Cove.Written April 7, 2024
- RobynF8880 contributionsFabulousI went out on the Friday’s 1.30pm Mail boat delivering Mail to the most off the grid, eclectic places and seeing the amazing Kiwis who live there Such a fabulous 4 hours following the Wellington bound Interislander ferry up the Tory channel, seeing the Salmon farms, Mussel farms and the old whaling station. Picked up some Queen Charlotte Track walkers on the way back at the Fumeaux Lodge then back down Endeavour Inlet. It’s Autumn, so I left Picton in a T shirt, then a jacket and then scarf and gloves. Such a beautiful place, both on land and sea. The staff were great also. Nothing was too much trouble for them A must for everyone to experience.Written March 23, 2024
- Stevaroo0 contributionsGreat excursion.Great fun. Extremely enjoyable cruise through the sound. Stopped first at Ship's Cover, where Cook spent so much time reprovisioning on several trips, It's a beautiful sight to spend some time. My husband and I and our 3 teenagers based ourselves in Picton and did self guided Queen Charlotte track walks on 2 consecutive days. The staff at Beachcombers were really helpful when we were organising our trip. They provided all the information we needed. They were flexible with pick up times and places and encouraged us to let them know if we had any problems getting to the pickup point in time. We had 2 amazing days on the track with glorious weather in the middle of winter. Seeing pods of dolphins close up on 3 of our 4 boat transfers was an unexpected bonus!

This Beachcomber day trip offered us the best of Marlborough Sounds. Catamaran to Ships Cove, time to look around, on to Furneaux Lodge for coffee then 12 km coastal walk to Punga Cove for pizza and beer, catamaran trip back to Picton.
Excellent on board commentary, comfortable craft, wonderful walk...
Thanks to Phil and Beachcomber team.

The recent torrential rainfall in December has definitely taken its toll on the Queen Charlotte Track. There are many areas of land slip which has, very promptly, been rectified but the work has left loose rocks scattered over some areas. Parts are also muddy and slippery where rain water continues to run across the track. There are some precipitous drops from the high points of the track so if you are due to walk it proceed with great care. Both my wife and I (both very experienced walkers) stumbled and fell today. Nothing serious; just grazes and a sore ankle but we were lucky.

This was a great trip from Picton to Ships Cove in the beautiful Marlborough Sounds.
Jason, our skipper, gave an excellent commentary during our one hour ride to our destination. The boat was clean, on time, instructions were clear and everyone we were involved with at beachcomber was polite and helpful
Our return journey was just as good
Thanks Beachcomber!

The whole experience with Beachcomber was amazing. Everyone is very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Jason, our skipper, is a massive asset to the business and is so knowledgeable and involved in the ocean, Marlborough Sounds and the restoration projects under way there. Couldn’t recommend this business more!

Skipper provided a very interesting commentary. We walked from Ship Bay to Furneaux Lodge. Only snag is there is not too much to see for a lot of the walk due to the bush. But you do get to see lots of wekas. Good quick boat ride both ways and friendly staff.

Booked online in advance with the company to take me to ship's cove and pick up from fernueaux lodge for part of the QCT hike. They have seating upstairs which is outside so you get a lovely view of the sounds. They took the boat to a place where dolphins were recently sighted on the way and saw 4 dolphins (one was a calf!) Was so excited as I had never seen dolphins before so was great they make the effort to try and show you some of the sea and bird life.
Drop off and pick up was prompt and left plenty of time to complete the ship's cove to fernueaux lodge hike. Would definitely book with them again.

Hi kpatel8778
Thank you so much for your awesome TripAdvisor Review! We are very pleased to hear that you had an excellent time out on the Queen Charlotte Track with us! Its great to hear that you saw dolphins on the way, it really does add to the enjoyment of the days adventure, and makes for those special memories. And thanks for your comments about our new boat, we recently added more seating to the upstairs so that more people can enjoy the views as we go along. We like to leave plenty of time for our guests to do the walk so im glad to hear that you took advantage of that, we like to think that by allowing plenty of time we give our guests more of an experience rather than just a water taxi in and out - sounds like you enjoyed it!
Enjoy the rest of your trip

Beachcomber Cruises offer a well organised and excellent service for walkers and bikers self guiding on the Queen Charlotte Track. I took the cruise to the start of the track along the beautiful Queen Charlotte Sound. The skipper gives a knowledgeable commentary with dry humour. We had the bonus of stopping to view a pod of Hector Dolphins.
The track itself which two of us biked over 3 days while one of us walked over 4 days is magnificent with lovely views, native bush & birdlife. The track is of moderate ability with good sign posting. The track enables wilderness experience during the day and comfortable catered accommodation during the evening.

He we would like to do the lodge to lodge walk is thT from Furneaux lodge to pine grove lodge and do we need hiking boots or are runner ok! Is the hiking path well groomed? Thank you Jane
Written January 4, 2019
The path is well groomed, possibly a little muddy in places if there has been rain. We did the whole track in hiking boots, but would have been fine in lighter footwear.

I will be arriving at 8AM on a cruise ship on January 22, 2019. I would very much like to do this tour, but I cannot tell if the boat leaves Picton at 8AM or 9AM. Under “Important Information”, it says departure time is 9AM, but then when I go to book, it says 8AM. Which is it? Will you have any boats that leave later than 8AM on January 22, 2019?

Hi I would like to know more about the Furneaux Lodge walk to Punga Cove.
Are there any steep hills with views to walk up or is it relatively a flat walk.
Looking at doing this early March 2019
Kay
Written April 22, 2018
We did the walk which ended at the lodge but I would be very surprised indeed if the walk you are proposing is not steep at times. The views of the Marlborough Sounds are stunning so if you are able to then I highly recommend.
