Itinerary
- 1Don’t waste time with very long historic talks of Dukes who almost became Kings. There will be some, but not too much. Overall this will be more like locals do – a daytrip to Trakai. Užutrakis manor. Discover how noblemen of Lithuania used to live in XIX century by visiting this manor and the park designed by famous French landscape architect and botanist Édouard F. André. The Old town of Trakai was shaped by Karaites – a local ethnic group from Crimean peninsula which has been living here since XIV c. - hear their story and try their local food “Kibinas” - oven baked pastries stuffed with meat or vegetables. The Castle. It is one of the most picturesque castles of Europe that lies between a few lakes on a tiny island. Build in XIV c by the grand dukes of Lithuania the castle reminds of the greatest battles and history to this date. You will cross a wooden bridge, see the castle from inside and outside and hear the story of Lithuanian royalties that resided there. After a historic tour in the castle you will enjoy the walk in Trakai town and have an authentic kibin lunch. Then we will drive you back to Vilnius. ------------------- HIGHLIGHTS: Visit the only historical national park in Europe! The Castle on a lake Užutrakis Manor and the view to the lake Experience the Karaim culture Eat Kibinas their local empanada Enjoy lake views

- FilipMoons0 contributionsWonderful holiday in the Baltics! We had a wonderful holiday in the Baltics organized by Travel Addicts. The program was very variated: we visited all the capital cities, but also other, less known spots in each country where you could go for lovely, organized walks and discover nature. Also, you wouldn't visit most of those beautiful places if you would go yourself. We recommend it to everyone; you really get a nice overview of the Baltic States during these two weeks for an affordable price.Written August 30, 2021
- Paul M0 contributionsVery interesting science experienceThe trip was very well organised, fascinating tour around the nuclear power plant, and also seemed very safe. The guides, both inside and outside the plant were interesting and well informed,Written January 15, 2020
- Chi_Alex20 contributionsThoroughly interesting! The tour started bright and early at 6am, when myself and a fellow traveller were picked up by our driver Pavel. Pavel was a great guide for the day, he told us alot about the history of not only Vilnius and its surroundings, but also the small towns and villages we passed through on the way to Ignalina NPP. On the way back, he took us the scenic route through the lake country, which was an unexpected surprise. As for the plant, the visit is conducted by an employee of the NPP and is really interesting. After passing through security you change into two layers of clothing to protect against any residual radiation. The NPP guide then takes you to the reactor hall of rector number 2, via a long central corridor. The reactor itself is an RMBK model, the same one that exploded at Chernobyl in 1986. You can stand on the reactor and I had the chance to peer into the spent fuel pools (don't worry, water absorbs any radiation, infact you could swim on the surface and you'd be safe). After visiting the reactor hall, you visit the control room, where its functions are explained, before a visit to the turbine hall, which is in the process of being disassembled. You cannot take pictures, but the guide will take photos for you. A cheap cafe is on site which made good local food. A visit to the workers town of Visaginas followed with Pavel. All-in-all a good day and an interesting experience. Would recommend this tour, with Lina particularly helpful in arranging it.Written October 22, 2019
