Overview
If you don’t know the history behind the Jewish quarter of Lithuania’s capital city, you could miss out on a lot while exploring on your own. Opt instead to travel with a guide during this Vilnius Jewish cultural tour, and listen to stories from WWII. Walk on foot through the former Jewish quarter, and gain a better understanding for the significance of this area.
What to Expect

Step back in time in 2 hour tour to listen to the stories of “Jerusalem of Lithuania” and Litvaks. Our guides will help you to find the traces of the Jewish history in the Old city of Vilna. Walking around the Big and Small ghettos you will discover the signs of the community which was wiped out from the city during WWII.

Meet our guide in front of the Town Hall to start your acquaintance with the Jewish history in Lithuania. You will begin the tour with visiting the Small Jewish Ghetto and the first three streets appointed to the Jews in the 16th c. Learn about Mark Antokolsky, a famous Jewish/Russian sculptor and why he has two birth places. Get to the stunning heart of the Old City. Today only the names of the streets remind us about the original citizens. Find the place where the house of Gaon of Vilna once stood and take a look at his bust close by. A few steps from there you will find a Soviet building in the place where the Great Jewish synagogue once stood. See the pictures; hear the stories of that magnificent building that did not survive the WWII.
After this we will cross the German street to get to the Big Ghetto. Si hi to a Jewish doctor Tsemach Shabad and learn what book he inspired.
Now it is the time to get serious and talk more about the WWII and its horrible consequences to Jewish community. Visit the courtyard where Judenrat (Jewish council) worked and get some insights into the movie “Vilna Ghetto”.

After this we will take you to the spot from where you can see the best view of Choral synagogue, the only active synagogue in Vilnius which survived WWII. Learn more about the Jewish community in Lithuania today.

And last but not least, we will take you to the street where the original Yiddish names of the shops could be seen. The tour ends close to the Jewish information center.

Very informative tour

My guide, Milda, was very knowledgeable about the history of the Jews in Vilnius. Some of the sites we saw had previously walked by without even noticing them or recognizing their significance. I highly recommend this tour—especially if you are lucky enough to have Milda...More

The tour was very informative, interesting and provoked reflection.

We went on this tour not without bias. The topic is quite painful and controversial. We were very pleased with the quality of our guide Mrs. Milda Jukniūtė. Her intellectual level, knowledge, and mainly tactfully put accents, won our appreciation and respect. The tour was...More
