My family and I recently did this tour on our trip to Vilnius. Our guide Andreas picked us up punctually from our hotel. He was very friendly and polite. Firstly we visited the ghetto then on to Paneriai Memorial Park. Andreas gave us lots of information. We have visited several holocaust sites and as always it is a very sobering experience. We then visited Trakai Castle which was very pretty in the winter sunshine. After an hours free time Andreas took us back to the hotel. We were all totally satisfied with the tour and would highly recommend it.

We were picked up at the hotel and with only two others. We were shown the ghetto and heard some stories and facts. Our guide Andrius was very good at telling short interesting stories. The Paneriai Park was very impressive. He told us the history of it and showed us around. At Trakai we heard Lithuania’s history in a nutshell. We also had enough spare time to walk around ourselves and eat something.

If you only have a short visit in Vilnius, I highly recommend this tour.

I was picked up at my hotel by Inga and then we picked up other people that were on the tour. The tour itself started with us being driven around the Jewish ghettos and given plenty of the history of Jewish people in Vilnius which was very interesting. We then were driven to Paneriai, this was a very thought provoking and sobering experience learning about the atrocities committed here during WW2. We then drove around 30 mins to Trakai Castle and walked around as Inga told us about the history of the castle and of Lithuania as we walked around. Inga left the group with about an hour to look around the castle ourselves and get something to eat. She recommended trying a kibinai which we did and it was very tasty. After the tour Inga gave us the option of being dropped off back at the hotel or in the centre of the Old Town. I would definitely recommend this tour as I think it is well worth the money.

They told me 3 days ahead that they didn't have enough people to do my tour and I could move it to another day or pay more for a private tour. After paying for the private tour, I saw the other group leader with a small group of people. Honestly, I felt scammed and the woman who led us although very nice, spoke difficult English and reeked of strong cologne and cigarette breath. She spent a very long time and the memorial and rushed us at the Castle. Disappointing as the Castle and lake was quite beautiful and needed to more time to enjoy it fully. You could either have lunch, take a short walk or a boat ride but not enough time for more than one. For a private tour I wasn't happy.

Hi there, Thank you for taking a time to leave a review. We appreciate your comments about the tour and tour guide as it helps to improve our services. However our group tours run if the minimum number of passengers has been reached. In your case the tour was not guaranteed departured, so we suggested you an alternative day, cancellation and full refund or extra payment for one person for the private tour. On your tour day the other tour leader had a private group, so we were not able to combine you with that group. I'm very sorry it caused confusion. Thank you once again about sharing your experience and wish you for the best discoveries in the future! Kind regards,

I enjoyed being in a smaller group. It is easier to interact with the guide and the smaller vehicle allowed us more interaction with the tour guide. The first part of the tour, with the guide driving us through the ghettos of Vilnius might have been better if we were able to get our of the van and walk around a bit. The side I sat on did not allow me to see all of the things she mentioned. The guide, however, gave us many excellent examples of what life was like at that time. Paneriai was startling, I had heard a little about it, but was not aware of the details. Finishing up the trip at Trakai was great. Be warned, there are a lot of stairs at the castle. One thing that I didn't like was that after booking I received information to contact the tour company with my hotel information. When I called them, the person who answered the phone just said, "hello," didn't even mention the company name. And, they told me to check back with them closer to the time of the trip. So they might want to do a better job with this. But, overall, I think that the tour was great, the guide was excellent, and it was well worth the price I paid.

I booked this through my hotel and I was glad I did. I was collected right on time to meet the minibus which took us to Trakai. Our cheerful and very knowledgeable guide, Agnes, really filled our small group in on the history of the castle and its restoration.
It really was a magical sight, with the frozen lake surrounding the castle.
The traditional painted houses facing the lake and the surrounding lanes were great to see also.
In winter especially be sure to try the nearby wooden cafe (right near the ATM) for their traditional pastries.
PS take cash for this trip - you can use the ATM on arrival if needed

Anyone visiting Vilnius should undertake a small group tour to Trakai Castle. It commences with a visit to the Jewish Quarter in the Old City. It continues to Paneriai Memorial Park which is a very moving experience. The tour concludes with the picturesqueTrakai Castle before returning to the city. Hopefully, you would be fortunate enough to have an experienced, knowledgeable, enthusiastic guide like Andreas.

I was expecting the Trakai Castle to be the highlight of this adventure. Not that the castle tour was not great (it was), but the visit to the Paneriai Park was a touching and emotional reminder of the dark days of WWII. Our tour guide gave a us much insight into the struggles of a people that only want to live in peace. In the US, we have no concept of the devastation done by both the Germans and Russians to the people of Lithuania. To those of outside of Europe, this park was a sobering reminder to NEVER take our freedom and liberties for granted. When asked, our tour guide said he could not hate those who have performed these horrible injustices. TIme to move on.....What a wonderful lesson learned. Don't miss this tour.
