    Incredible experience, highly recommend
This was such a fun, unique experience! I was apprehensive because I’d never done anything like that before but our guide Szilard was amazing and gave us all tips on how to navigate and manoeuvre our ways through the tight spaces in the cave. We took frequent breaks where he shared interesting information on the geology of the caves and facts about caving. It isn’t too difficult as long as you’re not completely unfit and doesn’t require too much strength or stamina. They provide overalls with really good grip which help when you’re hauling yourself up some slippery rock. A lot of the reviews say to go in shoes with good grip, but I went in my converse chucks (which was all I had) and it was just fine. Definitely worth a shot when you’re in Budapest!

    A unique and fun experience!
This was a great experience! Traveling through the cave was fun, educational and well worth the time and effort. Note: take shoes that can get dirty and have tread. It will help you traverse the tight spots. Lazlo (the King) was a great guide, knowledgeable, patient and fun to be around. This is not your typical tourist activity. Many of the locals do not know this exists. Great hidden gem. You do need to be able to bend, twist and pull yourself up. Great workout!

    Unbelievable caving experience
This was a truly amazing experience, that exceeded my expectations. The guide was amazing and gave the group options to which paths to choose i.e. tight squeezes for those up for it and an easier route for those that weren't. I really enjoyed how "natural" and realistic the experience was, there were no handrails and materialised paths etc and I really enjoy pushing myself outside my normal confort zone. In addition to this, the tour was quite informative with stories and history of the cave and system. I highly recommend doing this tour, it is definitely not one for the faint hearted!

The highlight of my visit to Budapest
I had a great time walking, crawling, and occasionally squeezing through the caves. Laszlo was a great guide, who was able to judge well the abilities of the group, made good conversation throughout (and took the time to get our names), and clearly knew the caves like the back of his hand. It was an excellent experience, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes being a little bit active. You don't need to be an athlete, but it is physical.

    Great trip
I loved it, and I would go again. I took so many pictures! I was also fun fun! Riverboat was so much fun also. Tours were great. I wanted to stay longer in some situations.

    Worth every penny!
A powerful experience that will leave you with a number of temporary bruises and an eternal memory. Our witty, experienced guide, Laszlo, turned an otherwise purely sporty event into a fun crawl. I would definitely recommended this for people looking to spice up their visit to Budapest and definitely wouldn't recommend this to anyone with a considerable beer belly unless they want to spend the rest of their lives stuck in Budapest's cave system. As it gets more slippery the further you go, wear shoes with a rough sole that you don't mind getting muddy and don't wear too many layers.

    Fun and challenging experience
This is an excellent experience it you are in Budapest. This was my third time caving and I had a lot of fun. The trip will take you to some ups and downs through tight passages and open areas and every bit is as challenging and delightful as the last. The guide is a geology PhD student and that's easy to notice: she knew the composition and history of every single rock and material in the trip, and gave us a lot of relevant information about the caves and caving in general. Highly recommended!

A memory I will never forget
I started with the idea that I am a claustrophobic and wanted to challenge myself. I found myself in those caves, the silence, the darkness and the joy of getting in such tight places to reveal the wonderful spaces within the caves, I truly enjoyed every bit of it Wonderful experience with a wonderful guide

Down into the depths of Budapest
Absolutely LOVED this adventure! Our guide was fantastic, super knowledgeable with a great sense of humor! Our group only had 6 adults (plus our guide), which was really nice. It was especially pleasing to escape the heatwave in Budapest and head down into the cool cave. Book this tour. You won’t regret it!

The coolest thing I’ve done on impulse
I’ve been travelling for about 2 months and during that time I’ve been relatively conscious of how much money I’m spending. But I saw a brochure for this expirience and I knew I couldn’t just sit this one out- and it was so worth it. The tour guides were amazing and we really went and did some challenging crawls through the cave. There were 2 people who decided right at the start that they were too claustrophobic to do the caving- and one of the guides happily went back with them and refunded them- But it’s an awesome experience and I highly recommend it- just be aware that you will be climbing and crawling in a super interconnected cave network through all nooks and crannies- this is not for the fair of heart!

awesome experience but not a walk in the park
Szilard was awesome, entertaining and reassuring. This was a great experience, sometimes slightly uncomfortable when the holes appeared small and rocks too steep and slippery but I am so glad I did it with my teens who, it turned out, managed to squeeze through tight spaces better than me. Great experience.

    We had a blast!
I have done an adventure caving experience once before, Down Under, and when I saw that there was an option to do so in Budapest, I just knew I had to give it a go. And it was just excellent, great fun, a must do if you are the adventurous type! Our guide Laszlo took us safely through narrow spaces, holes and tunnels, helped us climb safely up and down slippery and narrow paths, taught us about the history of the cave systems and with his calm and quiet demeanor generally made everyone feel safe. Very old, unfit or overweight people will not be able to do this, but everybody else should definitely give this a try, you will not regret it, and you wouldn't want to miss this extremely cool experience!

Best part of my visit to Budapest
Fantastic way to experience the natural caves off the beaten path. Great tour guide with nice explanations of the caves and how to navigate everything safely. Some nice tips for other stuff to do in Budapest too!

We took the English speaking tour and the guide was an expert caver so had a good deal of knowledge about caves and spoke good English. The caves were user-friendly with good pavement and handrails almost everywhere.

Going from one cave to the next involved a one mile uphill walk. A shuttle bus would be a good idea as it was very hot outside. The first cave had lockers for personal items but the second cave did not.

The easiest way to get there and back is by taxi which is about 11 euros each way.

The cave trip just blew my mind. Came alone on a Monday, and was the only person on the Adventure tour (they also have non-intense walking tours, but this review is of the physical tour).

Guide was Edith, who has 15 years of caving experience, in addition to being an environmental scientist (I think), and she led me through an epic adventure where we walked, crawled, and climbed through an intricate cave system, which is an absolute natural marvel to behold and navigate through!

Edith speaks absolutely perfect English with an awesome Hungarian accent, and went in detail explaining about rock formations, soil composition, etc. Really an in-depth experience, if I ever had one.

If you're worried about it being a 'touristy' trip, with electric lights, safety railings, etc., rest assured - this is 100% natural, and you will be challenged (if you're not a seasoned cave explorer already)!
It's just you, your guide (and maybe some other tour members) and your helmet (with an attached headlamp).

Be aware that it's absolutely a physical trip. They're not exaggerating when they say that on their website. There are some rather small gaps where you need to fit through, as well as a fair deal of physical exercise where you bend, crawl and climb.
You don't need to be an athlete though - If you're in moderate shape and don't have any disabilities or hampering injuries, you should be fine.

Getting there is easy - I just followed Google Maps with no problems at all.

All in all, I would give 10/5 stars if I could! Probably the best experience of this kind I've ever had!

We opted for the English tour and was guided around both caves by Adam who is very polite, funny and knowlegeable. The caves are very pretty and can be easily walked through on mostly concrete walkways. There are some steps and one steep ladder, but the whole place is well lit with handrails so is perfectly safe. I would suggest this for anyone with no previous cave experience, or who wants an easy, casual look through a well lit, well presented cave. Anyone looking for a proper adventure should seek the adventure caving experience which looks like it would represent a proper challenge (head torches, hands and knees-type stuff!) Chatting with Adam at the bus stop after our tour, we learned he is a volunteer guide. The fact we didn't realise this during the tour just shows how genuinely interested and enthusiastic Adam is in both tour guiding, and the cave geology itself. He made the visit very enjoyable indeed. If I return to Budapest I will without doubt be booking the adventure caving experience with the same organisation!

We chose the Active Climbing Adventure thinking it would be slightly more challenging than the easier walking tour. Be prepared! This is an intense caving adventure where you are climbing through tiny holes, pushing yourself through using your toes! You will climb over, under, and through rocks. You will climb over steeply angled wet, slippery rocks and will likely think, "oh I could easily get hurt/ die in this situation." Now, this is an amazing experience and we are extremely satisfied with the guides and the adventure. Bring extra shoes and advil; you will be muddy and bruised, but it's worth it!

We booked through gotohungary.com, and had the choice between a walking tour of the caves and a "more active" tour. We chose the more active tour. Age limit was 55...we are 52, so figured it would be an easy tourist-like experience. Nope - full-on caving. Our guide, Laszlo, was really awesome - took his time explaining about the caves, taking breaks to help us catch our breath and helping when we were having trouble getting through a tight spot. First descending by ladder 15 meters, then several minutes down-sloping meters of pretty easy rock navigation in wide tunnels/caves. I am not claustrophobic per se, but it is a bit unnerving to think about being closed in so far beneath the surface. Then we had some serious squeezing and tight places. At one point my boyfriend felt stuck and had some anxiety but Laszlo was quick to help. When it was all done we felt like we had really accomplished something. One note - they give you a coverall, but if it is muddy (it was) your cuffs and sleeves will get dirty. They didn't have shoes or Wellies, so our shoes were very dirty but cleaned up ok at home. Overall awesome experience, but as I said not for the feint of heart.

We decided to do the adventure caving tour largely based on the excellent reviews and are so glad we did. We made a reservation easily online via the company website and the company sent us all the information needed including bus routes. You can also get the H5 train to Szepvolgyi Ut and walk up the hill, which is what we chose to do. The caving tour is great fun and I loved crawling, climbing and exploring the cave branch. Our guide was great fun, knowledgeable and very helpful to my partner, who found it a little tougher. Just make sure to wear appropriate shoes and comfortable clothes for under the overalls. Also, just to provide a disclaimer: the tour is quite physically demanding and if you are not keen on tight spaces or getting a bit dusty, then a walking tour may be more suited to you. If, however, you enjoy a bit of adventure then this is an unmissable experience! I absolutely loved it and my partner admitted she had a great time too despite it not being something she would have chosen herself. Thanks for a great experience!

We came here with a large group of all ages. Some of us decided to do the caving adventure, where you have to crawl and slide. It was an amazing experience, very informative, little bit strenuous. But the good thing is that they offer a chill walking tour for those who don't want to do the extreme caving :) Loved it! Go visit!

Great couple of hours. Walked from Buda through the street seeing lots of statues on the way and then had another fantastic English speaking tour guide to show us around. Great to do with the kids and for the brave you can go caving which looked good if you like being stuck in a hole in the dark with a torch attached to your head! Not my kind of fun but what ever floats your boat! love the cauliflower and pea rock formations!

We did the intense 3 hour 'climbing-crawling adventure' tour. Definitely one of the more interesting things I've done on a vacation. From what I can tell it is also infinitely better than the 1 hour walking tour of he cave. They do need to make it more obvious on the website how demanding this tour is though. Lots of climbing, crawling, slithering, jumping, sliding, guessing and FUN!! Our guide "Frodo" and his companion were great.

Advice for tourist: bring good shoes with good grip. Buy a one-day public transport ticket in advance. Once in the caves, don't wear more than a t-shirt underneath your overalls because you will be too hot. If you're claustrophobic, are afraid of the dark or are in relatively poor shape: not for you.
Advice for organizers: the meeting point was bus stop no. 206 at 3:45pm. If some people show up late or unprepared (i.e. without bus tickets), that's their fault. Don't make the rest of us waste valuable time waiting for them.
