Balint is an amazing storyteller, really animated and knowledgeable whilst still being funny and relatable (the retreat of the Turkish being the words biggest nope 😂). 2 hour tour round the castle accompanied by vampire lore and creepy history whilst looking out on Budapest at night all lit up. Loved every minute, thank you!Written March 1, 2023

She was an excellent storyteller immersing you in the past and the stories. I would recommended plus it’s s good way to become familiar with the Castle District. - Sophie N0 contributionsBrilliant experienceMe and my partner went on this we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, it was very informative, interesting, and there was some good stories. To top it off we had a brilliant guide who knew what she was talking about and gave us free bus passes to get back to the hotel and made sure we knew where we were going. Deffinitly worth the money.Written March 21, 2019
- suitcasesally220 contributionsFunFanni was my guide and I enjoyed her history tour as we walked up to the Castle around the winding slopes with stops along the way for more history snippets and fabulous views of Pest lit up. As we continued around the Castle different history tales were told and as we moved onto the Fisherman's Bastion, the history moved itself on to Dracula which was very interesting also. Once we made our way round the streets of Buda, the legends/myths stories started to come out and were also interesting folklore tales. The whole tour is a fun tour with amazing views from Buda. I enjoyed it and I even enjoyed the bus ride back down... bit like a rollercoaster to finish : )Written March 7, 2019
- SkyppC0 contributionsA great and different look Budapest with a fantastic storyteller to bootThis tour does an incredibly good job at sharing the history, legends, and myths that aren't talked about in the run of the mill tours in Budapest - and I know this from experience having done 3 commercial tours prior to attending this Mysterium Tour. Special applause goes to Fanny for going above and beyond the night of our tour as she needed to navigate away from a local protest and march that was heading our way at the Presidential Palace in Buda where 200+ armed police in riot gear were waiting for the onslaught of protesters. All of that didn't sway her professionalism or her storytelling. Everything she did that night was incredibly perfect! After Fanny got us back to the Zero Marker where we started my friends and I walked back to our hotel. Fanny's storytelling stuck with me through that 15 minute walk and I couldn't help that spooky feeling all the way to my hotel room (which, in my book, means the amount of money I spent on this tour was well worth every Forint). TOUR TIP: There is a restroom (300 HUF or 1 EUR for entry) near the Zero KM Marker where you meet your tour guide. It's to the left and behind the funicular. Take note to use that restroom prior to going on tour as that may be the only one available at that time of night. Also take note of when it closes.Written December 29, 2018

Awesome. Just awesome. The tour guide was one of the best storytellers I’ve ever heard. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to learn more about Hungarian folklore and history. Budapest is a beautiful city and this is a remarkable way to experience it at night. Being a jacket, it can be chilly up there depending on what time of year you go.

Our family, including two teens, went on this tour of the beautiful and fascinating Buda Castle District while in Budapest.
Our guide, Baliant, was very good at telling the many mysterious tales of both historical gore and gothic fantasy. Baliant was also very welcoming of questions about more recent history and current day culture. He had good narrator energy; not over-the-top but with just the right amount of subtle mystery.
All while exploring around Buda Castle, Fisherman’s Bastion & Matias Church. The views of Pest from across the river at sunset and lit up at night are crazy beautiful.
I highly recommend this tour & experience.

The tour was such a great experience! I went with my boyfriend and we both enjoyed it very much. The host had such a great sense of humor and his storytelling kept us intrigued even through the cold wind of Budapest. I definitely recommend this tour if you are all about the history of Budapest and if you are even just a little intrigued with the idea of vampires.

What a fun first night in Budapest! We met our guide at the foot of the hill leading to Buda Castle and were swept back to spooky and grisly times as we strolled up to the castle. We paused along the way to hear the history and lore of the city, told with flare by our wonderful guide. He was a perfect storyteller who captivated the entire group. Such a unique way to see this gorgeous city at night!

This night tour was a walking tour of the Castle district. The tales of the vampires and such other blood-loving creatures was amusing but it was not as spooky as I would have imagined. It was beautiful to take this route at night but there was nothing special to it than the stories... so, I basically paid for this costumed guide carrying an oil lamp.

This tour was really interesting, would highly recommend to people who love to hear gruesome and spooky historical tales of Hungary! The guide Joe was very engaging, his audience was extremely captivated and he had a good sense of humour, as well as trying to make the tour as spooky as possible. It was lovely to walk around the castle district, and I like that there were stories from all over Hungary, not just around the Budapest region.
A warning for people who have low mobility, there are quite a few stairs leading up to the castle district at the start, however Joe was very good at trying to make it as easy for everyone as possible by encouraging people to let him know if we were walking too fast, and by stopping for a story on the stairway half way up to give everyone a break. He would also stop in places near spots where people could take a seat during the tour.

In our relationship, I’m always the guy to pass on these type of “experiences” whilst the wife is always super keen. Thankfully, she’s usually right 😂 We had an absolutely brilliant evening walking around with around 20 odd people led by “Joe” dressed very much the part.
He’s a great person for this type of thing… personable, accommodating, great at telling his tales and most importantly, hilarious.
Wonderful selection of stories where I felt I learned more about local lore and history than from any of the standard tourist type things.
You don’t have to like vampires to enjoy the lovely illuminated city or to take important information from the various stories and you’ll end up smiling and laughing on multiple occasions.
Highly recommend.

We booked this tour fairly last minute wanting something different to do on our last night in Budapest. I can highly recommend this walking tour if you like great views and want to hear some scary stories and history you may not get elsewhere on other tours. Our guide, Fred, who told us he was new to this tour, was very professional and kept the group entertained with great storytelling and interaction. The tour took in a fair bit of walking in the hilly castle district of Buda but we were given plenty of times to stop and rest. The views of the city were to die for. What we really came for however was the stories and history which were surprising to us if you thought you already knew your “Vampires”. This was carried out admirably by Fred our guide even though parts of the tour were in very busy and noisy parts of the area with a lot of other people passing by. All in all a good two hours well spent and recommended.

No where near enough effort made. Amateur night.
30 odd people all paying around £20 so £600? For two hours.
You get 1 guy with an old hat and a black velvet waistcoat telling stories from history about people being buried with their shoes and the odd weirdo being buried with a brick in his mouth.
These stories might have been better if we could have heard him or if he had any sense of theatre or drama. Waving your hands and making loud pretend vampire laughs does not really cut it, in my opinion.
The advert shows 3 vampy dressed actors leading you to believe it is an imersive event with surprises along the way. There was none. I truly hope my review helps people avoid this truly boring old clap trap as it really isn't anything like it promises to be.
There's much better ways to spend your time and money in Budapest.

This is a superb activity if you're looking for something a bit different to do in Budapest. Our tour guide, Joe, was absolutely fantastic. He thrilled us with tales of Hungary's terrifying past whilst also providing historical details and fun facts about the castle district. Joe took his time to ensure that everyone felt welcome and was well looked after. You have the option to take the Funicular to the top of the hill if you'd prefer to skip climbing the steps (which were very manageable) and miss only one story. It was wonderful to see the castle district and the views of the Parliament building lit up at night and a great chance to take photos at a quieter time of the day. The only downside was that our group was quite large, it would have been easier with smaller numbers. A thoroughly fascinating, unique tour which we won't forget!

Hello
Est ce un tour en français svp ?
Written February 1, 2020
Hi. Do you spend the whole 2 hours walking? And is the route a pathway? Thanks
Written January 1, 2020
Yes. You walk the entire time except when you stop to hear the stories. You are walking around the castle, the church, and the Fisherman’s Bastian. You also walk around the little town surrounding the castle.

Bonjour,
La visite peut-elle etre faite en français pour un groupe de 10 personnes?
Merci

what time does the tour finish and will it be safe to walk back to Hilton Budapest City after the tour?
Does the tour go into the tunnels under the castle?

The tour finishes around 10ish and they bring you back to the meeting place via bus which is at the bottom of the funacular. It doesn't go into the caves. But definitely worth it! Very good tour
