We had the BEST time with Marti! :) this was a surprise gift for my husband's birthday and I am super happy we did it! We made Goulash soup, the salty pankcakes and the famous Hungarian layered cake typically made by locals around Christmas time. Marti is a very good guide and gave us tips about other recipes that we have failed to master at home. :)) Overall, it was a lovely experience that I would recommend to anyone visiting Budapest and wanting to try out something more unusual & unique! :)

This evening during our Budapest pre-extension on the Danube Waltz we enjoyed a 4 hour Hungarian cooking class in an historic apartment building at Kitchen Pixie Budapest. We made Sour cherry soup, Chicken paprikas with homemade dumplings, and Gundel Pancakes with a walnut and orange cream filling topped with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. In the class we had Hungarian cherry brandy, six different Hungarian red and white wines and snacks. And learned a lot about Hungarian food, history and wine from Marti. What an amazing way to spend an evening in Budapest!

I could not recommend this experience or Marti more! If you have any doubt, book this class! This was not my (American, but Hungarian mother) first time in Hungary or introduction to Hungarian cooking, but it was my Fiance's first time visiting Budapest and cooking Hungarian food, and it was a BLAST for the both of us. Even if you are shy (like us), Marti does a great job of making you feel immediately as if you are at home and cooking with close friends. The conversation (and Palinka) flowed easily! As for the cooking itself, Marti is a force to be reckoned with. She is not likely to boast, but she previously worked as a chef at a Michelin rated restaurant. Her recipes are totally straightforward/accessible for the ordinary home cook, but also reflect her fine dining background (e.g., teaching us how to make a "lighter" Chicken Paprikas without flour!). We had so much fun, and while we did so many fantastic things during our visit to Budapest, this will likely be the highlight (said without exaggeration). Thank you, Marti, and we hope to see you again!

Much admiration, Brooke and George

I took my mom to Marti’s cooking class to learn how to make some classic hungarian food. It was the best day of our trip. The food was perfect, the lesson was highly informative and fun! I highly recommend it for anyone who likes to cook, we will be using those recipes at home, the best souvenir you could get 😀

I booked this experience as a surprise for my partner to celebrate our anniversary in Budapest.
I only told him that morning what we were about to do. It was very simple to keep the secret though as our wonderful pixie, Marti was waiting outside to pick us up! She drove us to our kitchen and on the way, showed us around the city. There was very little planning or stress involved. I think it's a wonderful touch to the day.

We started (the morning!) cooking session with Palinka! And I mean ... you know the cooking session goes well after that! 😂
We cooked Fish Soup, Apple Pie and Chicken Paprikash.

I can't even describe how dear this experience is to our hearts. It's irreplaceable.
It's not just a cooking lesson. It's an entire experience of spending half a day with a wonderful person and Budapest local.
You get shown around the city, learn about the dishes you're cooking and why you're cooking them a certain way and get lots of insights into the culture and city of Budapest.

Marti even brought us to our next destination for the day instead of back home! Which was so extremely helpful.
It felt like she was an aunt that we knew from Budapest dropping us off, rather than a stranger we had met that morning!

I'm the type of person to look around all the possible experiences, research a lot and hope I picked the right choice at the end.
I'm so happy with this choice though! Don't look any further. Seriously. Book this experience. It will be the highlight of your trip. It's an amazing experience.

We absolutely hope to see Marti again when we're back in Budapest!!!
We wish you all the best and Thank You for this experience.
Hope to see you very soon!

Marti is very friendly and makes you feel at home. She is also talented and knows the ins and outs of Hungarian cooking. The food was so good, colorful and full of flavour, and the cooking was fun. Many of the ingredients were homemade and absolutely delicious. Marti also offered us cheese and vegetables fresh from the food market along with homemade bread. I enjoyed this experience very much and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Budapest!

Marti was a great host even though the class was small and only two of us shows up. We spent 4 hours making Goulah soup, chicken paprikash and Bergius cake.

Marti was fun, patient and really enjoyed teaching us how to cook Hungarian food. She was comfortable sharing her personal story and her business.

It was our final night in Budapest and was a great way to end the trip.

I booked a cooking session with Marti for my mother and I while in Budapest to catch a river cruise. The experience was excellent from beginning (booking) to end. Marti picked us up our hotel on time and within 10 minutes we were at her lovely kitchen.

We were joined by another traveler and spent the morning cooking up a storm of delicious food. Marti is friendly and has wealth of information on Budapest and Hungary as a whole that she hares throughout the class.

If we had been in Budapest longer, i would have booked a second class.

One of the highlights of our entire trip!

Marti is a gem, she helped us make a wonderful meal, at the same time explaining what life is like for Hungarians. Their was laughter, learning and food all through the night. Best night for anyone looking for great food and to hear from real Hungarians.

This experience is a must for anyone curious about Hungarian cuisine! Marti is passionate and walks you through an entire menu that you will feel confident reproducing at home for your family and friends. Marti corresponded with us to make sure we had all the details for the evening, and her English is impeccable. She will put you at ease in the kitchen and you will use tools available in most home kitchens. You will have more fun and eat better food over the course of the evening than you'll find in many restaurants.
