Nice tour of the neighbourhood from a great local business!
We have lived in Budapest for the last four years - on the same road as the Tasting Table store and cellar (part of Taste Hungary). We got to meet Gabor, Carolyn and many of the staff over the years and attended various tasting events - they've never let us down. In July 2024, we had a friend visting us in Budapest and decided it would be fun to try the wine walk and tour of our neighbourhood. Again, an excellent experience. Our tour guide, Sarlotta was very knowledgeable and a really fun, cool person. We learned a lot of new things about the Palace quarter. Wine & food great, as always!

      We savored Budapest
Visiting the central market, tasting the food and getting information about how people in Budapest eat, with information about the building was the highlight of our trip. Visits to restaurants and tasting additional food and wine was fantastic. Come hungry — lots of food. A great experience.

      Great experience, fun and informative
I'm really glad I participated in this activity while in Budapest. As a wine enthusiast, I found the level of information about wines, Hungarian wines, Hungary, pairing to be geared nicely to our audience, and tailored based on questions. As a wine educator myself, I know you can easily overwhelm your guests with to much information, so it's usually best to give basics and gear the deep dives based on their interests. Carlos, our host, did just that. Carlos, was knowledgeable, passionate and humorous. He came prepared to teach us the basics of Hungarian geography and history, and of wine in the country. Then geared how deep he went based on our questions and interest. He gave us time also to mix and mingle a bit and encouraged interactivity. The wines were delightful, I really like the whites especially. I love how the shop supports smaller boutique wineries that focus more on low intervention wine making techniques. It's so sad that Hungary doesn't distribute more to the US (I learned the production only just covers local consumption). But glad that now I have a shop that can ship to me if I need a fix! Thank you so much!

      Wonderful Walking and Food Tour
We loved our walking and food tour with Angela. She was so kind and knowledgeable. It was truly the highlight of our time in Budapest! We started with a wine tasting and appetizers at the Taste Hungary Wine shop. Then walked on to savory pastries, a pub for local beer, a Hungarian dinner with more wine tastings, local liquor in a charming courtyard and ended with delicious dessert and live piano in a beautiful coffee house. Highly recommend!

      Vegetarian Hungarian Delights in Budapest
There was only me, a mother and daughter pair, and our amazing tour guide Charlotte on the tour and it felt like a fabulous ladies’ day out. The tour was able to accommodate me as a vegetarian and the others who did not eat pork. Even though meat, especially pork is a huge part of Hungarian cuisine, we still had a full day of deliciousness. I learned so much along the way and it felt like being shown around by a friend. We had langosh, Unicom, strudel, a chocolate covered cheesecake kind of thing, pickles, cold raspberry soup (it was like a rich smoothie in a bowl), paprika mashed potatoes, cheese that had been grilled until crisp on the outside, some breaded vegetables, mixed picked salad, a very interesting noodle dish that was covered with sugar and walnuts, three kinds of cake, three more kinds of cheese, and three wines. The pace was good and we were walking around over 4 hours so it didn’t feel like too much. Charlotte also had a little knife so that we could divide things up and share to taste more things. We chatted with several market vendors and they clearly knew and loved Charlotte as well. Highly highly recommend this tour!! It was so good and so fun, I would do the exact same tour again if I am lucky enough to return to Budapest someday.

      An Evening to Remember
Chef Tamas was truly amazing. His love of food and wine shines through and he made the evening one my husband and I will never forget. The basement setting is just perfect and we shared the evening with another couple from Germany and two female travelers- so it was very intimate with just 6 of us. Each dish was better than the one that came before it and the wine pairings were spectacular - each complimenting and enhancing the food being served. I would recommend anyone visiting Budapest to 100% include this on your itinerary - it should not be missed.

Anna was an amazing tour guide of culinary Budapest. The places we went were beautiful, the food and wine were wonderful, and Anna gave us an excellent overview of the City and culture. We highly recommend her and this tour, and now plan to do a food/wine tour of every new city we visit.

Great intro to Budapest and Hungary!
Fantastic tour with an excellent guide "Andy" who gave us such insight into the history and culture of the city and the country - all while enjoying great food and drinks and seeing amazing architecture. I was with my 10 year old daughter and we both loved it and the pace was fine for her also. Highly highly recommend it. Unlike other tours, this one was packed with small additional extras that made us all feel spoiled (pastries / desserts / snacks / lunch - all included which was great value for money). We really enjoyed it.

Amazing evening in Budapest with great food, wine and company!
My husband and I attended the chefs table at the end of May and had an amazing evening. A lovely way to spend my 40th birthday! Tamás and John were great hosts and their passion for the food and wine shone through. We were on a table of 8 and really got to know our fellow guests over the many food courses with wine pairings. The whole evening lasted over 4 hours, and felt perfectly paced. Great to learn about Hungarian food and wine as we were eating and drinking. This was the highlight of our trip and I would absolutely recommend this for an evening in Budapest!

      Oshi was fabulous, would recommend
We did an evening tour with Oshi. We started with wine and charcuterie, Christian and his colleagues were so welcoming and knowledgeable. We then visited several stops from ruin bars, street food to a fancy restaurants and an elegant cafe. We had a fantastic time and would thoroughly recommend it, if offered an amazing glimpse into different areas of Budapest.

Always important to check out the local market!
Fascinating structure with tons of places to spend your money. Remember this is the EPICENTER of the tourism in Budapest. That means things are pricey.

      We fell in love!
Dinner was absolutely incredible! We loved everything about our experience from sharing the table with another lovely couple, the food, the wine, the kindness of Chef Tamás and Christian, and the atmosphere in the cellar. It was one of the first things we did in Hungary and it made us fall in love with the city. Chef Tamás is incredible at what he does, he was so kind and happy to share his recipes and love of what he does, the food was beautiful and made us feel like we were sharing in a family dinner filled with warmth. Christian the sommelier was just as amazing, his knowledge of the wines, how they paired with the food, and just his overall character were really cool and you can tell he is so passionate about what he does. I cannot recommend this experience highly enough, you will leave with a warmth in your belly that just makes you feel loved and cared for. We still often talk of this night with friends, and it fills us with the best memories. Thank you for the most wholesome, and heart warming welcome that we could have had to beautiful Budapest. We can’t wait to return! Egészségedre!

      How Hungarians eat and drink
Esther was an excellent guide, sharing history and context of the food of Hungary, and adding historical information about Budapest along the journey. The food was plentiful and representative of the Hungarian way of life. Tasting wine from two wine producing regions was a perfect end to the tour. I highly recommend this tour as a way to understand the Hungarian food and wine culture.

We visited for an afternoon wine tasting session which included 2 white wines, two red and one fantastic desert wine.

Our host Christian did a great job explaining the history of wine in Hungary and the characteristics of the wine we were tasting.

The wine was accompanied by a very tasty selection of meat and cheeses which were a perfect accompaniment to the wine.

It was a very enjoyable two hours and I would certainly recommend it if you enjoy wine or are looking for an interesting way to spend a few hours in Budapest.

We booked during winter and joined two other parties for a smaller, more private wine tasting. The host was gracious and gave us a lot of information and we had great conversation with the other guests in our group. We all walked away with a few bottles of Hungarian wine. Highly recommend booking the tasting!

If you're on a traveling budget (also time wise), no wine expert and want to have a introduction to wine tasting, then I can recommend this wine tasting experience. Except for meeting a kind and generous staff you'll have the opportunity to chat with other fellow traveller's looking for a glimps into Hungarian winery. While I personally didnt love the red wines offered, the white wines made up for that. Also, the snacks served with the food was very tasty. In conclusion, a very good experience.

The experience was good overall. I felt it was a little rushed and could have spent more time going through each wine one by one and recommend what foods to eat with each one.

The sommelier explained all the reds and white wine together and recommends what to eat but by the time you go to taste you can't remember what he recommended. Bit confusing.

Wonderful wine tasting that included a good amount of meats and cheeses as well as delicious bread. 2 whites, 2 reds and a dessert wine were all issued for the tasting. Each wine was explained, showing what region and describing what grapes. The tasting is set up lovely and gives you enough time to enjoy the wines and try the meats and cheese while talking to the people in your tasting group. Would 100% recommend for anyone who likes wine and wants to learn more about what Hungarian wine has to offer.

We enjoyed our wine tasting at Taste Hungary. The sommelier was experienced and clearly loved the wines he was sharing. He did a great job handling the mix of gregarious chatting of the group and sharing the information we needed/wanted to know about the vintages. He said he was a 5th grade teacher during the day and the skill set came in handy that night. Just a rousing great time, delicious wines, great pours, and handy information. We'd recommend it to anyone interested in wine.

We did the 5 wines option and even as someone who prefers white over red I really enjoyed all the wines. The food was matched so well with the wine and I would recommend you trying the Hungarian Camembert, truffle sauce and white wine 2 altogether. Flavour explosion!

Would love to do some of the other tours or tastings in the future

What a wonderful experience! My husband and I were excited to try different wines in the local regions we visited, but we were blown away by the wine, food and information we received in Budapest. The cellar was beautiful and the charcuterie board was fantastic. I highly recommend this experience if you want to have an experience away from the touristy areas of this beautiful city and learn about their fascinating culture through wine.
