About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- traveller777220 contributionsWorth a visit but stalls are repetitive and overpricedLoads of stalls but they basically sell the same stuff. As per any market don’t buy at the first stalls at the entrance. We didn’t buy food and I think that’s what’s most popular there. Souvenirs and trinkets overpriced and repetitiveWritten September 10, 2024
- Anne98780 contributionsEXCELLENT Tour & Tasting at Great Market HallWonderful tour of the Great Market Hall in Budapest. We just had three groups take this tour in March and each of the tours was just fantastic. Kata was very knowledgeable about Hungarian cuisine and history. The stops for tastings were very well chosen -- such a wide variety of foods and such large tasting samples! Strongly recommend this tour!!!Written April 11, 2022
- trooper1980 contributionsBest time in BudapestWe we booked this tour online prior to our trip to Budapest. We met our guide and now friend Kata at the designated spot. Kata showed us around the Grand Central market and we were able to taste numerous samplings of traditional Hungarian food types. We then were transported to their kitchen where we were offered a beginning drink of schnapps. Kata had the table set with the items that we needed to prepare for our cooking class. We started by preparing root vegetables to make a broth for the soup. We then prepared the chicken prior to it going into the skillets to make Hungarian paprika chicken. We then made the dumplings and while the paprika chicken was cooking we then prepared a traditional Hungarian poppy seed bread pudding.this was the first time we had taken a cooking class while traveling and it is something that we will have to do for every trip in the future. I cannot give this class enough stars we had so much fun.Written December 21, 2019
- Andy N0 contributionsFantastic introduction to Hungarian cuisineSpent a great afternoon cooking with Kata, an excellent and knowledgeable guide and cook, in the company of some lovely fellow foodies. Learnt some great tips that I’ll certainly use - can’t wait to try out the dishes we cooked at home ! This is an excellent course, accompanied by wine tasting to give a real good introduction to Hungarian cuisine. I can’t recommend it highly enough.Written August 27, 2019
- D1396LOsusanb0 contributionsCooked up a storm in Hungary and AustraliaMy husband and I did this 1/2 day course and thoroughly enjoyed it. We loved the inclusive market tour and tastings and learning the history of the foods. Preparing the recipes, cooking, learning about different paprikas was interesting. Eating your meal was good and we took the left overs home with us. Our hotel kindly reheated the soup and delicious paprika chicken that night. On return to Australia, I had a dinner party for seven and made the soup and paprika chicken, with paprika from the Budapest market.... deliciousness. Thank youWritten July 20, 2019

Thank you for the recipes. It was great that Kata packed up all of our leftovers in the cute Easy Cooking backpack. We ate them all the way home on Monday. Egesegedra,Written July 17, 2019
- missladylaura0 contributionsAmazing experienceThis class was definitely the highlight of my trip. Kata was a great guide, friendly and knowledgeable. Exploring the market and talking to the vendors about their goods and processes was so interesting. The class itself was great; the recipes were easy-to-follow but still delicious. I really appreciated that they were easily able to accommodate the fact that I'm a vegetarian. This is a wonderful way to get a true taste of Hungary from a local.Written March 19, 2019
- CNK823140 contributionsWonderful cooking class!!Highly recommend this cooking class to anyone here to visit! We went as two couples and agreed it was the best activity we did town. Kata was a spectacular teacher/guide. It is a different experience to go to a market with a local guide and we highly enjoyed it. Plus you make delicious food and get to bring a tiny piece of the culture home to share.Written February 17, 2019

- patriciarM8902SS0 contributionsGreat Cooking ExperienceMy son and I had such a great time with Kata. Lots of fun and the food was delicious. Can’t wait to try the recipes at home for the rest of the family. Taking our leftovers home for dinner the next night was perfect. Thanks Kata!!Written December 19, 2018
- skseguin270 contributionsTraditional Hungarian MealWe thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Kata made it very special. In advance of our arrival to meet her at the market she had met with several booth vendors to have our sausage, cheese and appetizer tastings all prepared. She had already called the cab to pick us up from the market an hour from our arrival. Very organized! She enlisted us in the preparation of each dish explaining every step of the way. The recipes were simple and DELICIOUS. Do not plan dinner reservations that evening. This was one of our favorite experiences in Budapest and we have Kata to thank for this. She is an absolute gem!Written October 21, 2018
- Patricia M0 contributionsEasy Cooking BudapestWe had a wonderful time. First we got a tour of the market that included tastings. Then we went to the kitchen where we prepared a delicious meal that included appetizers, soup, main course, and dessert. I’m forgetting the wine and before dinner drink. Not only was the food good but our hostess was informative and fun. I highly recommend this tour. It is one thing to see and learn about the history of Budapest, but learning about the food and culture makes the visit perfect.Written August 31, 2018
- RWHinze0 contributionsGreat experienceI would highly recommend this outing. We met up with our guide Tunde at the front entrance to the big market. We discovered that there was one other couple attending the class that day. What a great personal experience. We tasted foods from a variety of vendors and purchase foodstuffs to prepare. All hands on all a great experience. We made a great meal of soup, chicken, bread pudding, and a cottage cheese spread. It was all great. As I said, I'd highly recommend. One final note. To get back to the market or your hotel you will need a cab.Written July 3, 2018

What a lovely time we spent shopping and cooking with Viki, a truly warm lady and passionate cook.
We started our afternoon with a tour of the Market Hall, listening about the history of the market, tasting local foods and shopping for our ingredients. Due to torrential rainfall earlier on the week thé venu had to change last minute and we were treated to actually going to our host’s family home. It was very special and also extremely kind of Viki to arrange this for us as she could easily have cancelled.
What a wonderful time the four of us had.
Tasting cheeses, cooking our lunch, tasting local wines, sipping Palinka, discussing culture, history and family life.
I thoroughly recommend booking this course if you want a truly memorable lunch.
Thank you Viki.

My partner and I really enjoyed our market tour and cooking with Oliver. He gave us lots of information about the market and was very passionate about cooking. We enjoyed making our three courses and spending the afternoon with Oliver who was very friendly and talkative. The wine was delicious and so was the pálinka! My favourite course was the Gulyás. Overall a very chilled afternoon of cooking, drinking and eating with good company - what else could you ask for!

My husband and I enjoyed this class. From the start communication via email was good and any questions I had were answered promptly. We enjoyed the market tour and were given tasting plates of bread, salami and desserts which we enjoyed. It was interesting to learn about the different ingredients. We then got in a taxi to the kitchen where we learnt how to make a 4 course meal.
We were given wines and extra cheese etc whilst we cooked and had the opportunity to take left overs home.
I think we were lucky as there were only 3 of us in the group.
The only thing I would say is it did work out to £170 for 2 people. I think if the group was any bigger I might have been disappointed due to paying that price.

Kata was an absolute gem! We walked around the central market for about an hour learning about its history and tasting the yummiest Hungarian delicacies. We were lucky enough to be with a fun group, as well.
We then taxi’d to the Easy Cooking kitchen and took shots of Hungarian pálinka before preparing a traditional appetiser, vegetable soup, chicken paprikash, and poppyseed bread pudding. Everything was insanely delicious. Kata let us take home the leftovers, as well, which we devoured later that night. Everything was spot on. Would recommend to anyone travelling alone, as a couple, with friends or family :)
Thank you for a beautiful, unforgettable experience!

Taking a cooking class is a great way to meet a local and learn about the culture. The central market tour is a good introduction to Budapest and highlights many of the culinary treasures of the country and is a great contrast to supermarket shopping in the USA. Viki was a wonderful hostess and instructor.
The recipes were fun to make and everyone chipped in. We look forward to trying them at home as well as using some of the "tricks" she showed us in our own recipes.
I would definitely recommend.

Loved that we started off at a Ruin bar for their Sunday market. Small, local merchants and be sure to buy paprika while you're there to take home. Then off we went by taxi to the kitchen.
Kata was excellent at both explaining what was for sale at the market and giving clear, helpful guidance as we prepared and cooked our meal. The Hungarian wine was very good and for sure helped us to cook a great meal! Best of all, we got to eat the fruits of our labour.
We were 5 ladies - 2 from Switzerland, 2 from Canada and 1 from England. That was the perfect number so that everyone always had a job to do.
I've now been home for 3 weeks and made the Hungarian soup which was my favourite. My husband loved it and wants to know when I'm going to make it again! Wait til he tastes my chicken paprikas!
