I've been on multiple open top bus tours, they're often a good, if expensive, way of getting ones bearings in an unfamiliar city. The 24 option usually means you can get a couple of rides on it. This one is a little more expensive than most but it includes a boat trip in the price.

Unfortunately the boat trip is where this ticket let's itself down. You're sat on a "waiting room" boat until the boat turns up. However this eventually fills up so you find yourself queuing up on the stairs of the waiting room boat until it arrives so you get a decent seat on the actual boat.

It's also not clearly advertised that you can board on Margaret Island, we would have probably done this had we realised. It's a stunning tour though, particularly in the dark.
The bus and tour was about what you'd expect from a City Sightseeing tour really though. Be warned that due to some road closures a couple of stops on the Buda side of town weren't able to be served (Nov 22).

The bus tour ticket was a fair price for a 3 day hop on hop off experience of major sites in Budapest. The MAJOR let down was the terrible organisation of the sightseeing cruise boat trip included in the ticket. People, including my husband and myself, were queuing for over an hour and a half to get on the boat. There was nobody to control the queues and people were pushing in last minute on the wrong side of the original queue and being let on without anyone bothering to care who they let on. This is totally unacceptable and actually spoilt our experience. You should rethink, as a company, how to organise these trips without any hassle to your staff. Even the staff know about these problems and have given up as you don't seem to care about their welfare. It's quite upsetting to see their distress. The idea I have is that once the bus ticket is booked you should be getting the customer to pre-book their boat trip in advance and that way you won't be overcrowded and keep getting poor reviews, it's really that simple.

i read a lot of negative reviews so I was hesitant to book however it turned out ok. so here is the thing the HoHo and Big Bus and Green Bus all have combined, so now it really doesn't matter which one you book as you just get on the next bus that comes along. I downloaded the app as recommended but found it pretty useless in terms of identifying the stops etc. I think the company needs a huge marketing overhaul and get everything onto one platform so that people are not confused. there was four of us and one commentary socket wasn't working so she just moved seats . it was very hard to hear the bus announcement of the stops so it is best if you have a physical map and keep in mind where you are going. Also I did notice a couple sitting upstairs near us who tried to get off at New York Cafe but the stop was so brief it didn't allow time for them to get up safely and make their way downstairs and there is NO WAY they will let you out before the next stop so they were understandably pretty upset. I found the staff very friendly and helpful. We did get off at Stop 2 and walked down to the boat trip HOWEVER there is construction under the chain bridge so you can not walk along the river from there. They really need to make a lille map of how to get to dock 6 (BTW on google Maps type in Vigado ter and that is the location of dock 6) . I feel with the merge in companies the information for tourists is very unclear , even on their websites it does not mention anything about the merge and as the companies had different bus stop numbers for the same place it can be confusing. Overall it served its purpose for us as we wanted a ride around the city with some photo opportunities.

Would like to start saying that Big Bus and City Sightseeing are the same company, they just have too different names to trick the clients.

Now about the bus, only worthy if you are disabled or if you have kids. I think your money will be better spent if you take normal bus/metro, rent a scooter or even walk. The city is not so big, so it’s easy to walk.

The tour bus take too long to pass, they say is every 30 min but don’t fool yourself, 45 min minimum, and many stops on the map are misplaced, not like the other side of the road, but the other side of the block.

The boat trip was 3/10, unprepared staff, and the boat has many obstacles for you to see the view.

I would recommend to walk as most as you can, take normal bus when needed and buy a premium boat ticket (14 euros instead of 8 euro that this company asks for), so it’s not big differrence in price but huge difference in experience.

While staying on the Buda side of town we purchased our tickets online to be able to just "hop on" the bus that came near our hotel. However, we were notified they can't accept electronic tickets and we must take the public transportation over to the main office to exchange the electronic ticket for a paper copy. We purchased a local bus ticket for 600HUF, went to the main office and exchanged for a paper copy. We also learned that there are people at most of the bus stops selling tickets. Once we had our passes the buses came very frequently and never had to wait more than 10 minutes at a stop for a bus.

Every city I go to I get a hop on hop off bus to see everywhere, this is brilliant. I’ll take you through my experience, the buses aren’t great, they could be cleaner and they could have better audio, half the jacks have xs on them and no audio, the drivers aren’t very friendly or informative, they hardly ever announce which stop you’re at and I just didn’t really like the bus side. If you find your way to dock 6 then the tour on the boat is good, again the boat could be cleaner and staff could be friendlier but I’d recommend doing the boat tour as night. We got he specialised package so we also got the Waking tour, mark, you were amazing!! I’ve included a photo of him, he doesn’t mind, find mark! The most knowledgeable, informative, best your guide ever, walking tour from basilica and round pest, saw the shoes and ended up The Parliament building, takes about an hour and a half. So all in all worth it.

Budapest is a beautiful city, with many brilliant tours and wonderful things to do. It'd be a shame to waste any amount of time of one of your days on such an astoundingly poorly put together tour.

I was going to write a detailed review outlining each of the many issues; but truthfully I'd just be reiterating the exact same things that hundreds of people have said before. The company running this tour hold a monopoly over hop on hop off buses in Budapest, and clearly have no interest customer service or in taking feedback to improve their service, judging by the fact that the same issues have been coming up again and again for over 5 years; instead providing a substandard service under the City Sightseeing and Big Bus franchise names.

So I'll just reaffirm what people have already said. Yes - the audio is frequently out of sync
with the bus, the speaker on the audio lacks proficiency in English (mispronouncing words, stopping frequently to pronounce certain words) and the information provided isn't informative compared to other City Sightseeing Tours. The timing of the buses is sporadic and the driver of one bus was hugely unpleasant, shouting and gesticulating for me to get off the bus when I got the bus and boat tickets mixed up and was searching for the right ticket in my bag, while the guide laughed at his reaction. I understand the pressure the drivers have to keep time, but the whole encounter was about 15 seconds, so it seemed wildly disproportionate & needlessly disrespectful for such a low stakes situation that staff should be capable of dealing with professionally. I used to work in hospitality and love the industry. If I had that experience with another company, I'd let customer service know because most hospitality businesses I know enjoy getting feedback to improve their service; bit in this case theres clearly no point, as the company have zero interest in customer satisfaction. The fact that 1 star is the most common review and that easily rectified issues (have a fluent English speaker do the audio) javent been done in years is very telling.

So my review is solely for potential customers. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. It terrible in a way that I didn't realise a service driving people around while they listened to pre-recorded audio could be.

Excellent was of seeing the sights of Budapest. There are 20 stops available at which you can get off and on at your leisure. If I have one complaint it would be that on stop number nine the driver took a break which lasted about 40 minutes. We did the same stop yesterday and it was only 20 minutes. The weather was great yesterday so it was fine. Today it rained and every passenger stayed on the bus which was full. Other than that we used a 48 hour pass which was ideal for us. We also did the 50 minute Danube boat trip yesterday which was included with the ticket.

If you’re after an overly expensive and complicated way to see Budapest, this is the tour for you. Unfortunately the timetable is lacking and waiting around at a very difficult to find bus stop for up to 30 minutes is quite annoying on a short city break. The only saving grace was the river cruise and that’s the reason this gets two stars, although even that isn’t advertised at the right place on the website.

We do a Bus Tour in every city we go to. There great value for money, and allow you to navigate yourself around as well as learning about the culture and history of the location. It’s always a highlight.

However this one in Budapest is awful.
The tour buses are run down, the drivers constantly stop for 20 minutes for a break - I wouldn’t mind but it happened each and every time we went on the bus. The seats are also uncomfortable. The upstairs of the bus has an annoying roof folded over so people keep banging there heads... it wasn’t even raining. We became wise and sat downstairs.

The English Narrater is absolutely terrible. I couldn’t understand a word. We visited Budapest previously a few years ago - please use the Big Bus Tour company as opposed to this one.
