Budapest’s Jewish Quarter flourishes with an active religious, artistic and historical heritage. Your walking tour will begin at your hotel, where your guide will come to meet you.
Travel first to the Dohány Street Synagogue, the largest synagogue in Europe and the third-largest in the world. You’ll have the opportunity to peruse Hungarian and Eastern European works of art at the Jewish Museum (admission included) at your own pace. Then your guide will take you to the Holocaust Cemetery, where many were buried during the Second World War.
The next stop on your walking tour will be Raoul Wallenberg Memorial Park, which honors Wallenberg and others who protected many of Budapest's Jewish community from deportation during WWII. Here you will find the Tree of Life, a sculpture commemorating the 5,000 victims of the Holocaust buried nearby. Afterward you’ll make your way to Heroes’ Temple, memorializing those who gave their lives during the First World War.
You’ll then walk to the Jewish Quarter to visit the Carl Lutz Memorial, a tribute to the man credited with saving thousands of Jewish lives during the Holocaust. You’ll also explore the interior of the orthodox Kazinczy Street Synagogue and walk through the beautifully restored Gozsdu Courtyard, now filled with shops and restaurants that are popular with locals and visitors alike.
