A cant miss tour in Piran
This is a must if you are visiting Piran. Jan is a great local guide and he focuses on showing you the best local food and wine. Each dish is amazing, fresh and unique. The tour also includes local wines and olive oils which are very tasty and make great gifts. Jan keeps the group size small and ensures that everyone feels welcome. Don't miss it!

    Best food tour
Jan was simply amazing. He shared the best of his city through food and wine. We started with caper paste from a vendor in the farmers market. Then on to a salt store to understand how salt is made and the importance to Piran’s history. Then the food fest began! First up a local delicacy—sea bass carpaccio style. Next up, mussels—my husband’s favorite seafood. I’m not usually a fan but I couldn’t get enough of these!!! The sauce they were simmered in was simple—wine, garlic, lemon and a few other things I can’t remember. Both of these dishes were paired with a really good white wine. I’ve forgotten the grape but it was comparable to a Sauvignon Blanc. Next up…risotto with squid ink. I’ve never had it before but will look for it in the future! Again, paired with the white wine. Then it was on to a restaurant for the best filled pasta shells I’ve ever had. The pasta was made fresh every day by the women next door. The stuffing was ground filet and melted in your mouth. Paired with red wine beautifully. Next door was the “truffle guy” where we sampled white and black truffle spreads. OMG, so good!!! We finished up with the most amazing gelato—it was gramma’s cream custard flavor with lemons. What a perfect ending to the tour. Not only did Jan share his country’s food traditions with us, he also was able to find transportation for my husband so he didn’t have to walk so far. That was so helpful for us and really added to our enjoyment of the tour. Highly recommend this tour!!!

    Book this tour with Jan!
We spent a lovely early evening with Jan in Piran last night. His tour was informative, well-crafted and professional. Jan is also a very gracious guide who caters to each person on the tour. I highly recommend signing up for this BEFORE you arrive and it be your first intro to Piran. You will enjoy it very much! The food tasting at Gourmistra was amazing and a hidden gem! Jan also gives great restaurant recommendations too! Thank you to Mattia of Gourmistra who catered to every request with utmost patience and professionalism.

    The best tourguide in Piran!
We did the morning city tour at 11am. It was nice listening to Jan as he knows everything about Piran. Besides that he was easy to understand. He gave us also some advise for lunch and icecreams. We really recommend doing this tour. We loved it!!

A walking food tour is the best way to experience Piran!
What a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the food and culture of Piran. Jan was a fantastic friendly and relaxed guide with great knowledge and insight. Our small group met the friendly locals at wonderful venues to taste the good products that Piran has to offer. Literally “breaking bread” together and getting a feel for what makes Piran the best seaside town to visit is a great way to get the most from your travels.

    Great food tour through Piran
The tour was as great as i had expected. Jan´s knowledge about Piran and food was extraordinary. He showed us places and restaurants, where we wouldn´t go at first place - what would be very sad. He showed us typical istrian dishes. The best part was the visit at Mathias’s Gourmistra. we came there even the day after to bring home some part of this tour. Next time when we come to Piran we will be well prepared to decide what to eat:) Although you see below my pictures I would highly recommend to do the tour on your own because only seeing can´t make memories which you can remember your whole life!

Highly recommend if visiting Piran and if you love food!
Highly recommend this tour! Jan was very knowledgeable about Piran and we learned a lot about the town itself and also it’s cuisine. It was a really great full day even for me and my family. We started out the day with visiting a few different restaurants and ended at this amazing olive oil and truffle store. We are so glad that we did this tour!

The best food and wine tour in Europe
Jan is the most amazing and involved tour guide I have come across. I have been to multiple tour guides around Europe and this one by far has been the best. The combination of the location, the guide and carefully curated epicurean delights are an absolute delight. The highlight being the stop at Mathias’s Gourmistra. Here is a place where u can sample the best truffles, artisan wines and olive oils. Mathias is a fantastic host and knows his produce from the produce, to the producer, to sourcing and production. If u can only do one thing in Piran I would recommend u contact Jan for his food and wine tour. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Great tour, showing interesting places and local hot spots
We've been there the beginning of September and it was an almost private Tour! Very friendly, interested guide. It was a pleasure to join. Thank you! He also helped us with the litte child, so this is also suitable to go with a buggy!

We did the morning tour at 11.00. Our guide Jan was very knowledgable and enthousiastic. His English was excellent. He made sure to stop in the shade wherever possible. Pace of tour was fine and not strenuous.

Best way to visit and experience Piran
When visiting Piran you could walk around the whole afternoon, looking for the nicest places, in the heat and finally ending up at a snackbar… Or you can sit the afternoon on the beach and join this tour at seven. Jan is a very enthousiast and entertaining guide. He takes all the time needed, with only a small group. The wines are nice and he has great tips for a nice dinner. Highly recommended

Piran isn't a large town but it is very picturesque and has plenty of history. This tour takes advantage exactly of that - the guide took us to the most beautiful places (beautiful views, sunset) and told us the essentials of history of Piran. He also included some stories, which I found really fun.
The tour is finished by a tasting of wine and local (Slovenian) products, which were all amazing btw.
The guide talks in an English that is easy to understand, which we appreciate because we aren't native speakers and sometimes struggle with more complex vocabulary.
Overall - amazing experience, beautiful place, great guide, would recommend. (No I didn't get paid to write this review, I just really liked the tour.)

The first day we went the tour was already fully booked and we could not join, but Jan kindly offered to reserve a place for us for the next day. As it happened, the next day we were the only ones signing up, so he did the tour just for the two of us (my girlfriend and I). The tour was very enjoyable! He was a very friendly and passionate guide. He delivered just the right mix of historical facts, interesting stories, practical advice and more, and was eager to answer questions. The wine and food tasting was also great, we got to taste local live oils too. Overall, the tour was a great experience, very well worth it. We recommend it to everyone!

One of the best walking tours ever. Jan, the tour guide is very friendly and open, he literally knows everything about the city. He looks like he loves very much what he’s doing. The wine tasting place is also very good, Matjaz (the owner) is very passionate about his business and he can tell lots of stories. :)
This walking tour was my favourite program during our stay.

I had an opportunity to take part in this great tour. The guide was real expert of the city with excellent English. He gave us interesting hints form the history and walked us throughout narrow street of this lovely medieval city. I can recommend this tour even during rain shower. :-)

The Tour was great with many interesting facts about the city.
Also it was a very personal and friendly atmosphere during the tour. The guide was very passionate about the historical background and also the culinary part of the tour. You could tell that there is a true passion behind his stories and not just stories you hear at a random walking tour.

The best parts were that we have gotten some recommendations for our remaining holidays in Slovenia and of course the wine :)

Our guide was really engaged in the tour (which can sometimes be rare for a walking tour) and he took us to some really authentic places. The tasting of wine and food was delicious and I ended up buy some food from the place. A great experience and I would say a must if you are visiting Piran.

This was an experience well worth the price! Our guide was knowledgeable and related well to the local culture of Piran and the historical traditions of the region. We learned so much and any questions were readily answered with a unique native perspective. The wine and olive oil tasting was a perfect ending to a most enjoyable experience! Highly recommended!

Our guide, Jan, took us on a journey through Piran stopping at all the important sites. He gave us an overview of the history of the area and explained about the main foods and wines. Our stop at Gourmista was very interesting and we had a chance to try a white wine, red wine, snacks with various spreads, prosciutto, and several types of olive oil. Everything is locally grown/made. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour!

Great tour, our guide really knew the facts and the history of Piran. We walked around the center of Piran and our guide was really fun and interesting to listen to. The tour ended with a small tasting of two Slovenian wines and other Slovenian products such as truffle and olive oil. Summary; a great tour, highly recommended.
