About
In this exploration of Tito's Socialist Yugoslavia, which Slovenia was a part of, communist gems come to life, including typical architecture, Coca Cola's communist factories, socialist punk music and Luka Dončič's basketball predecessors. Comparing the Communist past and Capitalist present, the tour shows the influence of communism and workers’ self-management on today’s life in Slovenia. It showcases amazing examples of Yugo-nostalgia, cult of personality, brutalist architecture, the "spomenik" monuments, attitude towards religion, censorship and the secret police jail. Yugoslavia’s type of Communism was unique in the world, and this tour tries to do it justice.

    80ies punk in Slovenia
Ljubljana, the most liberal city in the most liberal republic of the most liberal socialist country, has a rich countercultural history with importance and repercussions far beyond this small nation. You'll learn about it in this 2h guided walking tour of the inner city. Not to be missed!

Nika is an excellent guide, which city offers feminist tour. Each successful man is always supported by his spouse.s
Wow, our guide Nika was really excellent! Your city, especially the centre of Ljubljana is really beautiful. Our visit became much more enriched thanks to the detailed information by Nika, focused on WOMEN and their successes/ stories in history of the city and Slovenia. Despite a bit colder weather that day, Nika was shining sun for us. Do not forget to see the witches or Julia at the end of the tour. Zdenko, from Slovakia.

A great way to discover the city!
I joined the Ljubljana (Non-) Classic Tour with Dani. It was great to learn about the history of Ljubljana and so many cool facts about monuments, historical personalities, buildings, etc. Dani was funny and a great storyteller. Will definitely recommend it to any of my friends visiting the city!

A journey into the history and music of Slovenia!
You can learn a lot about a place through its music. The Punk Music tour of Ljubljana was as much a lesson in history as a journey of music discovery. Through a few key sites - all easily walkable to - Gregor painted a picture of what life would have been like for a music lover in 1980s Ljubljana! Before the tour, I was sent links to some of the scene's seminal punk albums and compilations - from what was then Yugoslavia as well as from Slovenia. I left the tour with some knowledge of Slovenian music, a greater understanding of the history of ex-Yugoslavia, some new bands to listen to and suggestions to expand my knowledge! Thanks so much, Gregor!

    More spotlight for women achievements!
It was a great tour and Lana was a great guide! It is unacceptable how few points or monuments remind us of the achievements of excellent women who paved the way for us to where we are today. Lana has presented everything so well, that I and my friends are already thinking how we could influence the city authorities to change that!

    Invisible not forgotten
It was informative to understand how invisible were women through the history and still are. I will recommend the tour to friends. I would add some additional information about women and their short stories... or organize at the end of the tour break at some coffe place, maybe linked to one of the ladies, mentioned in the tour..

Brilliant tour including history, art and locations of country culture in Slovenia
Fantastic, entertaining and highly informative tour. It was so much more than learning about alternative culture in Ljubljana and Slovenia - there was 100 years of history, sightseeing and social commentary - Gregor is a very knowledgeable and friendly guide, open to questions and takes time to put over the information. I highly recommend his tour

    History is the greatest teacher
Although I have known the city of Ljubljana my whole life, this tour helped me discover a number of special sights I have never noticed before. All these locations are reflection of historical, cultural and societal development and change. But we are not aware of it at all. So many beautiful reminders of many forgotten and unrecognized women, whose lives impact our society today in so many positive ways. If I may borrow the famous Billy Joel song - We didn't start the fire. These magnificent women did in and we have an obligation to keep it going for future generations.

    A personalized walk through Ljubljana
After a mutual introduction, Gregor, our guide, lead us through Ljubljana, whilst telling about the city's punk rock history. He played us songs, showed us videos of live performances by bands from back in the day and artwork from the era along the way. I was a bit worried that the narrative would be along the lines of 'back then things were exciting, but those days are long gone', but this was far from the case. The perspective is punk as a cultural phenomenon in communist Yugoslavia. We got a niche history tour that Gregor tried to make as tailor made as possible. He is a kind guy who experienced Yugo punk first hand as a teenager growing up in Ljubljana and is still in conctact with some of the scene's founding figures. He can explain what Yugoslavian communism meant for young people wanting to create something of their own in the late 70s and 80s and how the communist authorities allowed a punk scene to develop, because he witnessed it from up close, the regime as well as the scene. Gregor is passionate about art and culture, which is clear from his vast knowledge. He also knows Ljubljana well and was able to give us recommendations for places to visit. I feel like we've only covered a small percentage of the things Gregor could have told us, because Ljubljana's cultural history is rich and there was only so much time. Whoever has an interest in underground/alternative culture will learn a lot from spending time with this guy.

Really enjoyed Gregor’s perspectives. Having grown up in the US, we didn’t learn as much about Yugoslavian history, and while I didn’t find myself agreeing with all of his views, I found his perspectives on Russia, communism, Tito, and the continued influence of WW2 on Slovenian politics fascinating. I wish we had seen more of the city; we got bogged down in a few locations and some of the stops were not as interesting. But overall highly recommend!

We had an extraordinary experience doing the Post-Communist tour. Gregor is a knowledgeable, friendly and entertaining guide who gave a lot of color to Ljubljana’s postwar history, also by sharing a lot of interesting anecdotes that made it much more tangible. We highly recommend him and his tour. Thank you, Gregor!

Greg was a fantastic tour guide! He communicated well with us and we were fortunate to be the only two people with him on the tour. He was very articulate and descriptive about Ljubljana and the Socialist party during the Yugoslavia era -as well as before and after. He covered a lot of history and we visited several places around town to help describe what life was like then. Highly recommend!

In this tour I learned a lot even though I already spend some months in Ljubljana. The tour is reflecting on the past of Slovenia in a different and really interesting way. So if you want to know what a Napoleon monumentum (the only one outside france) has to do with the slovene national consciousness or about the engagement of the national libary to collect history in the present for the future in the times of resistance, then you should definetly go to the tour.

Coming to Ljubljana for the first time I was interested to know more about the city and how life had changed post communism. Greg’s tour was so interesting and informative that I feel like now I’ve really “seen” Ljubljana. As we toured various locations throughout the city, he wove stories of past and present to help us understand life before and after communist rule. As a history teacher, I had many specific questions which he answered fully. This tour gave me a new perspective and appreciation for Ljubljana, as well as the Slovenian people, and I highly recommend it!

The tour guide was very accommodating and generous with our group: we accidentally booked for the wrong date but he was happy to move our booking around with no added fees or inconveniences.
It was also very appreciated that the guide assessed every participants individual interests and levels of knowledge when the tour began to ensure we were able to keep up with such a complex history.
As a traveller, I can find it very easy to become really bored and disengaged with the flood of audio guides at museums - this tour is one hundred times better than those! Part of the reason for this was the guides ability to add art, historical objects, music, food, architecture and Slovenian culture into a history tour - this made the experience richer and felt more like a two way conversation than a lecture.
Really great find and a fast way to fill your mind with loads of compelling stories about Slovenia and her people.

Great tour! A crash course in the 20th century history and culture of Ljubljana, Slovenia and the former Yugoslavia, focusing on the post war communist era under Tito. If you're interested in the periods during, between and after the world wars (leading up to today), this is a must do. Gregor is a true expert. He keeps it relevant, interactive and fun.

This was our final day of vacation and we wanted to learn a bit more of the history. We were the only two on the tour and Greg catered it to our interests and energy level. We were able to see places we never would have found on our own and learn about the changes that have taken place in the last century. I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in the political and historical side of Ljubljana.

This was genuinely interesting and insightful with lots of detail and anecdotes but also a clear explanation of the big picture. My partner who had almost no knowledge of Yugoslavia found it as interesting and easy to follow as I did (I studied some Yugoslav/Eastern European history several years ago).Goran, our guide, was funny and friendly as well as brilliantly informed. We would definitely recommend the tour.
