The Nazis established the Auschwitz concentration camp in April 1940. Enlarged in the subsequent years, it became a site of mass genocide. Some 1.5 million people of 28 nationalities died here. In 1979 the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp was entered into the UNESCO World Heritage List. The site was turned into a museum in 1947, and is known as the Memorial to the Martyrdom of the Polish and Other Nations. You will be picked-up from your accommodation at 7:00 am, after 1,5-2h drive your tour starts in Auschwitz at 9:00 am. That type of sightseeing includes specialist tour of the Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau camps, enhanced with selected national exhibitions, the so-called Central Sauna, also the ruins of gas chambers and crematoria IV and V. After finishing sightseeing, the driver will drive you back to Krakow.Read more

Obviously a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau is a sobering event but it's hard to imagine not going when in the area. Michael kindly provided our private transfer to and from the location and he was informative and friendly - kudos to him for his role in making this a good experience. Our guide in the camps was also excellent as she walked up through the buildings and also shared a bit of her own personal connection. Overall I can't think of any way in which this trip could have been improved - it was very efficiently organized and exactly as described.
