- 1Your tour to Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum will begin in the city center or in your hotel in Krakow. The museum is located about 65 kilometers west of Krakow. After a 1.5-hour drive you will arrive and begin your 3-hour tour of the museum. Visit Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau, where you'll find crematoriums and gas chambers, as well as loading/unloading ramps and wooden and brick barracks, the former of which is entered through the iconic gate inscribed with Arbeit Macht Frei (Work Sets You Free). Visitors can see some surviving barracks and the ruins of gas chambers and crematoriums. At the end of the route is where you’ll encounter the Monument to International Victims of Fascism. Private transfer to Auschwitz-Birkenau, but the tour in the museum is shared with other people in a group of up to 30. We have English speaking drivers, but guides supervising tours in Auschwitz- Birkenau speak various languages. Time of pick up from hotel or apartment depends which language you choose.
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Gwen C0 contributionsGreat trip to see the castles near KrakowWe had the most amazing experience with Maciek . From start to finish, he went above and beyond to ensure our trip was perfect. He is not only incredibly knowledgeable about the area but also friendly and welcoming, which made us feel right at home. Maciek is incredibly patient, always answering our questions with a smile and making adjustments to the itinerary to accommodate our needs. He even took us to some hidden gems that only locals know about, and added personal touch to the tour that made it unforgettable. We can’t recommend Maciek enough – if you’re looking for someone who genuinely cares about your experience and will go out of their way to make it special, Maciek is the guide for you!Written October 9, 2024
- 7mikm10 contributionsSuper experience!Super experience. Maciek is amazing. We were a group of 3 adults and 2 kids booked to the river rafting and from the moment we met he was friendly, kind, very experienced and great with our small kids. We had a good time and Maciek suggested a few things to try based on his knowledge and I'm glad we did! Maciek knows a lot and I'm sad that we met only at the end of our holiday as I would have liked him to take us on other outings especially to the country/mountain areas outside Krakow.Written October 7, 2024
- X7365VMdanielg0 contributionsBeautiful Dunajec River Gorge! We had a great tour of the Dunajec River Gorge thanks to Poland Active Day Tours! We were picked up and greeted right on time by Maciej in Krakow. It was a scenic 2 hour ride to Southern Poland with Maciej pointing out various points of interest and stopping at a beautiful . We started with an easy 8 mile + ride along side the Dunajec river through the river gorge. We then got on a raft and paddled back down the river. What a great time! Thanks Maciej and Poland Active Day Tours!!Written October 7, 2024
- elizabethcO921JD0 contributionsBeautiful and moving - definitely worth seeing. This was a very good tour. Our driver, Chris, picked us up on time and gave a very comfortable ride to Częstochowa. He walked us into the monastery grounds & brought our private guide out to us. He told us to take as long as we needed & was waiting for us when we got done. Thank you, Chris! The tour was very beautiful and moving, especially since we are Catholics of Polish descent. However, I think that everyone can enjoy and appreciate the beauty of the church and its architecture. Our private guide, Martin, was amazing. He knew and shared so much history about Poland and Jasna Gora. And he let us take as much time as needed to see and experience everything. I would definitely recommend this tour.Written September 21, 2024
- donnal64640 contributionsThe BEST day visiting the Castles in Poland!Maciek was an amazing tour guide for us! He is extremely knowledgeable on all of the castles on the tour and many other places in the areas we drove through. He was even able to give us history/information on other castles that were not open to the public. Wonderful sharing of legends and tales of the area. He was very respectful of things we wanted to see and do. He even made accommodations for one on the tour that was having issues with some steps/long walks around a few of the castles. We had lunch at a restaurant he suggested! So many choices!! Best Goulash! ❤️ On the way back to Krakow, he continued to point out things for us to see in Poland’s beautiful countryside and towns. We had a very full day and would highly recommend using Maciek for any of your site seeing needs! I know I will be! 😊Written August 28, 2024
- TravelinMom1380 contributionsLovely tour to Poland's beautiful countryside! Our guide and driver were terrific, and took very good care of us. The town and the painted houses were beautiful. We visited a small museum first, then several private houses and gardens, and were able to meet some of the artisans themselves. There were also opportunities to buy some handpainted crafts directly from the artists. This was a great opportunity to get a bit off the beaten tourist path.Written August 27, 2024
- Dream6469220 contributionsThere is no better tour!To start with the views are amazing!! The stories were even better. Our guide was a wealth of information on the history of the castles and area. He even went out of his way to suggest places to see when we got back to Krakow. His passion for the history of this land really shows! My friends were shocked to find out that castles could be found in places other than Scotland.Written August 27, 2024
- Trip5312630 contributionsFantasticIt was an incredible experience. Maciej was the perfect guide, very smart and professional. We visited spectacular places where the presence of St. John Paul II could be felt. Maciej provided us with a lot of interesting information. Thank you very much. We definitely recommend this tour and this guide.Written August 20, 2024
- malgorzatal4860 contributionsWonderful day tour outside of KrakowAn excellent organised day tour. The castles and the views are stunning. Maciek is a very nice, helpful and knowledgeable guide. It was great that he tailored the program to our wishes as there were no other people on the tour on that day. Me and my kids really enjoyed the trip. Thank you Maciek!Written August 16, 2024
- HELEN23490 contributionsGreat for trekkingIt's far from Krakow so you must take a taxi. Wonderful trails and beautiful views. There are also cafes and restaurants on the wayWritten July 30, 2024
- timothyr2760 contributionsThe best tour and tour guide in all my travelsI cannot more strongly recommend this trip. This is by far the best tour I have ever been on in any of the many countries I have visited, here is a list of reasons why it is so good 1. For a tour of this many castles and transportation there it is a steal! 2. The guide is knowledgeable and friendly, who truly enjoys introducing you to his country and it shows. 3. You are not rushed through the exhibits. 4. You see more than just castles but the amazing Polish countryside. 5. The exhibits (castles) are breathtaking that pictures do not do justice.Written July 26, 2024
- rebekas20170 contributionsKnowledge Guide, Amazing DayOur tour guide was very knowledgeable about the castles and was great about answering questions. The trip showed breathtaking castles that no picture could do justice. This is the absolute best planned out trip and a trip that I would do again if I come back to the country.Written July 26, 2024
- Blueskip0 contributionsStunning trip, excellent service from Poland Active. This was an excellent trip! Huge thanks to Matty/ Maciek who really looked after us so well and went out of his way to take us to some great viewpoints. He arrived bang on time to meet us at our hotel which was in the 'no car' zone, so a short walk to.the minibus and we were on our way. He spoke good English and was very attentive, and the minibus comfortable and air-conditioned. Re the walk, I have heard people say that "your Granny could do it". I don't think my Granny could have, but there are less demanding options (eg horse and passenger cart). We walked up mostly on the wide and level asphalt path up to the cabin and lake, with occasional shortcuts up steeper stone paths. The path is smooth and inclined upwards all the way to the lake. It took just under 2.5 hrs and was definitely worth the walk... the views were stunning on the way up. I recorded about 400m elevation from the bottom car park to the lake (after I corrected for a Strava error). As I mentioned, you can be taken up on a horse and cart but you would still need to walk the last 20 minutes or so. There are also optional was around the lake if you have time in your schedule. There is a cabin/cafe at the top, which got very busy as the day progressed. There were plenty of tables to find a spot to sit. You need cash for the cafe, and also 4 zloty for the toilets. We took our own packed lunches but bought tea/coffee up there. (There are also free portaloos on the route up at intervals - take your own loo rolls with you to be on the safe side!) In summary.... greater trip, stunning scenery, I would definitely take.a.tour with Poland Active and Maciek again!Written May 29, 2024
- Global1724470 contributionsGreat day out in the mountainsMatty was a superb guide, really knowledgable but more important he clearly loved the area and seemed to really enjoy sharing it with us. Pick up was on time and the minivan was comfortable. He went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable with breaks at appropriate times. He walked at our pace and kept the group together without any pressure. Finally he went out of his way to show us a local ski resort and viewpoint on our way simply because we asked about it. Overall a fantastic and beautiful day and we would highly recommend Matty as a guide.Written May 28, 2024
- H3568IRjillg0 contributionsThe most peaceful place on earthWow wow and wow!! We did a one day tour of the country side in Poland. What a fabulous tour and tour guide. Our guide took us to a famous wood carver to learn how to carve wood, a couples house up in the hills to bake bread in their wood burning stove in their kitchen. We ground our own wheat into flour and they also served us lunch. I consider these hills the most peaceful place on earth! Just to see how these people have lived off the land for all these years is so beautiful. What a wonderful unforgettable day we had!Written May 8, 2024

Our pick up was 11am and from the very start, our guide and driver were very friendly.
Our guide in particular had a lot of knowledge and explanations.
We would have preferred some free time because we arrived back into Krakow much earlier than anticipated but nonetheless we had an extremely good day. Somewhere that everyone should visit.

We were picked up by our driver Dawid at 6am from our hotel. He was excellent as we arrived about 20 minutes early letting us use the toilet (cost 20 pln)
The restaurant was not open but we took some food to eat while waiting for the rest of the party. We meet a larger group of about 20 people for the tour and were taken through an airport type security by the way your only allowed a small bag.
The tour guide Marek was excellent explaining and taking questions, we did have a french speaker from the museum but I am not sure why she was there.
I did feel a bit rushed through the exhibits but I think this is the same for everyone. We had a lot of fog the day we were there but Marek tried his best to explain what was in the distance.
One thing I would say is that I had to ring this company to find out what time the pick up was.
Go on this tour as you can never imagine the size of the place or the cruelty that people can inflict on each other.

The private transfer was a great option to meet the time we were looking to tour Auschwitz. You then meet up with 20+ other people on the Auschwitz tour and see the camp.

we had a private pick up, the driver was really polite and early.
The tour guide Michael was fantastic, really knowledgable.
The only small criticism we could think of- it would have been nice to have had 30-60 mins of ‘free’ time so we could stop and read all the signs at our leisure.
Thanks for a great day

I think we all know what happened at Auschwitz, but going there and visiting it, makes you feel a bit too. Going through all those buildings, seeing all those belongings, hearing all those stories from the guide, gave me the feeling of that story at the first hand and not only the information.
The tour was good and well organized. This friendly and polite driver picked me up from the hotel and left me there when we finished and the guide tried to do her best too. I would honestly recommend it.

What an emotional trip. Thank you to our tour guide. He was fantastic. Very informative and knowledgeable.
There isn’t much I can put into words for the experience of the trip, it’s harrowing, overwhelming, informative. EVERYONE should go once. Just to remind us what we can do to each other as humans. It’s not right to say I enjoyed it - as that’s not the correct word. However, the tour company explained as we went round what happened. At times I felt very emotional, and as I say go just to remember that no one should be treated like this ever again.

We did the tour to Auschwitz and Birkenau but were only picked up lunch time. This was fine but it felt a bit rushed at the end so would of been even better if we were picked up an hour earlier. The tour itself is incredibly interesting. The only downside is the tour groups are too big but I think this is how its done for everyone rather than Poland - Active. Definitely worth the visit.

Thank you so much for your opinion, it's priceless for us! It was not our intention to rushed you up. Size of the group and time of the visit is limited, and have the same rules to all tourist companies. Looking forward to meet you in the future.

Booked the tour on TripAdvisor, very simple. We were three persons and had a private taxi, driven by the nice driver Marek. The guide at Auschwitz and Brinkenau, Natalia, was excellent. Very interesting, sadly and deeply touching to visit the museum. The past and the victims should never be forgotten.
