About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- FormidableFoursome0 contributionsOrganised and efficientWe used KrakowDirect for both Auschwitz and the Salt Mines. They were very well organised and very efficient. The drivers / guides were very good indeed. They were informative and punctual. We also had the lunchboxes which were a brilliant idea and very nice! We would definitely recommend them.Written December 8, 2024

- jeffangushammonds0 contributionsTours in KrakowWe booked 2 tours in Krakow with Krakow Direct and they were brilliant Arrived on time as promised with calls before to check pickup point address . Both drivers were professional courteous and very informative Would definatley use them againWritten December 7, 2024
- griffb20190 contributionsCancelled tour with no noticeI'd avoid this company if I were you. They changed our trip pick up time from 1pm to 11am without telling us, we found out on the day, after 11am and was too far away from the pickup point to make the trip. Even though they were at fault, and admitted that they made a mistake, they refused to travel to collect us from where we were staying, refused to book us on another later tour and refused to refund our money. This tour was the reason we made the trip, and the actions of this company ruined our whole holiday. I've included a photo demonstrating our communication with them in advance of the trip. I wouldn't use this company again, but if you do, make sure you keep phoning them to make sure they haven't made any changes to your trip without telling you.Written December 7, 2024

- 803grf0 contributionsAuschwitz-BirkenauKrakow Direct gave a fantastic service, however it was spoilt by the numbers of visitors, there were far too many. There was very little time to look at the exhibits, as you had to keep moving. Overall very disappointed. I could have stayed there for many more hours. Radio communications from the guide were also poor.Written December 6, 2024

- christophergordonk0 contributions9 hour trip but surprisingly how easy it wasIf I’d read more about the tours available we would have brought our swimming gear as the thermal baths looked amazing, but then we would have missed the highlight for us if this tour. Michael our guide for the day did an excellent job, first taking us to Chochocol to see the beautiful wooden houses which look brand new but some over a 100 years old but are washed annually !!!!, we then dropped most of the party at the thermal pools , when the 5 of us left visited a local cheese maker in her small hut set just off the road on deep snow, it was so spectacular with all the snow covered meadows full of snow surrounded by very pretty snow covered pines too it was lovely no crowds of holidaymakers here as there were on the way up, Michael translated for us and we were then able to taste her cheese, as we were about to leave she came out with some toasted cheese and cranberries, they were delicious, after seeing no snow around Krakow it was a pleasure to drive through the snow filled valley and then on to Zakopane and a ride up the snowy hillside on the funicular and a lovely 2 hours spent in Zakopane town . Altogether a great day outWritten December 5, 2024

- marykearney1230 contributionsSalt Mine TourOur tour guide was Walker-he collected us exactly on time, the transport was very comfortable and clean. He had a wealth of knowledge throughout and was generous with his time. He had an excellent command of English and had lots of banter with the tourists. Most importantly, he was very appropriate so didn't speak too much, provide endless facts etc., but more polite and interesting info as we travelled along. He also was extremely helpful when travelling back into the city after the tour-he gave advice on stops, ttractions how best to navigate etc., which was greatly appreciated. Would highly recommendWritten December 4, 2024

The day was scheduled at a comfortable pace although it is a bit of a marathon as there’s lots of walking and about 12 hours door to door, however it’s a fabulous way to immerse yourself in the tours and committing in one day suited us completely.Written December 3, 2024

We used KrakówDirect today for two tours, Auschwitz-Birkenau and Salt Mine tours combined in a full day. Booking online before we left the Uk was easy, good communication and easy to pay. We were picked up from our hotel at a specific time (on time) in a lovely new mini bus with 6 other couples by Michael our driver. Excellent can’t recommend enough, Michael looked after us from the moment he picked us up to when we got off the bus at the end of the day. Well organised, professional, knowledgeable driver. Thanks so much we would definitely use your company again while in Kraków. Thanks again Michael what was a difficult tour (Auschwitz) was made that bit easier by your kindness and professionalism.

KrakowDirect is an excellent tour company. We are a group of 8, we used the company in all of our stay in Kraków, from airport pick up, Auschwitz- Birkenhau/Saltmine tour on our 1st day and Zakopane tour on our 2nd day with an added drop off to St Faustina Sanctuary and back to airport transfer on our last day. All the drivers are equally pleasant, very professional, spoke very good English and highly knowledgeable. Special mention to Simon, Michael, Raphael and Charles.
The booking was done via emails and they always reply promptly. The payment were all in local currency at the end of the day’s service. Very accommodating with all our last minute requests.
Highly recommended tour company in Poland!

Firstly, this is a very long day (approx 11 hours) and a lot of walking is involved. So if you think you'll struggle, book separate trips to Auschwitz and Salt Mines.
We were picked up at 6.15 from our hotel and transferred to a coach further into the city centre, both drivers were very friendly and chatty, even at that time in the morning :)
Journey time is approx 1.5 hours to Auschwitz I when you watch a video on the liberation of the camps, and after that tour you travel to Auschwitz II-Birkenau (5-10mins).
As expected Auschwitz was very harrowing and a stark reminder of what some humans are capable of. Everyone knows the story and has no doubt seen it many times on TV, however nothing quite prepares you for seeing that famous gate in real life.
The tour guide we had was great, clearly knew the subject well and handled it gently and compassionately, while not sugar coating anything either. My only complaint here is; you don't get to see all of the camp/buildings as you are tied to the group, and therefore dependent on where other tour groups are as to where you go. I would have appreciated some time in both camps to look round independently.
It's then about a 30min trip to the Salt Mines. Where we had 40mins for refreshments/rest. Just enough time to grab some food at the bistro (the food comes fast although you may struggle to get a table).
The Salt Mines themselves are fascinating and like nothing I'd ever seen. There are a LOT of stairs getting down but you do get (a very tiny) lift back up. This is not a place for anyone claustrophobic, but if you can make it down the stairs everything opens up.
The guide, again, was great, did a fab job explaining the history, keeping the group together and making sure we didn't get lost. The tour here took about 2 hours in total.
It's then a short trip back to Krakow, but no hotel drop off. The driver let us know which stop would be closest to our hotel, which wasn't too bad, but taxis are very cheap if you've had too much of walking for the day.
Overall I would recommend seeing these places and this trip ticks off both in one day if you are stuck for time in Krakow.

From the first correspondence it was an absolute pleasure to deal with krakow direct. They helped and advised the most suitable way to build our trips. The bus driver Thomas was excellent and took care of the passengers every step of the way and introduced us to the brilliant tour guide Anna at the camps. We couldn’t be more pleased with krakow direct and would highly recommend them to anyone thinking of booking trips in krakow. Wish I could give 10 stars haha. Thanks krakow direct

Was picked up on time at our hotel (Radisson Blu). Nice journey on a modern coach. Sadly the driver couldn't get the video to work so we watched it on the return journey. Everything was well organised once we arrived and we were handed over to our tour guide. I'm afraid she gave the impression that she wanted to complete our tour as quickly as possible as we were rushed from place to place with very little time to absorb each of the different areas. She would rush us through a building and then start telling us what we should have seen once we were back on the outside. Although it was cold she marched at a quick pace going through Birkenau leaving the elderly at the back each time and by the time they had caught up she had already spoken and was ready to move to the next area. There was lots of informative signs throughout but no one had chance to read them as she marched past them all at a fast pace. Disappointing.

Dear Steve,
We are sorry that the tour did not meet your expectations. The only authority to provide guided tours at the camps is the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. We hire their guides for our tours and we always ask for the best guides. However our requests aren't always fulfilled which seems to be the case for your tour. The Camps are the most popular tourist attraction in Poland so guides' schedule is very busy and the number of visitors per day is massive. Guides need to speak quite rapidly in order not to keep other groups blocked on the sightseeing route. We apologize for all inconvenience caused.
Kind regards,
Paulina

The Salt mine is only 10km outside Krakow. You have to go on a guided tour even if you make your own way there . We had a minibus for 8 and were picked up from our hotel at 8am. It took approx 20 mins and we were at the salt mine before 9am. All yours are between 25/30 people wch was fine and we had an excellent guide called Barbara. Very interesting tour and a must see. Please note there are over 400 steps down and approx 3 km of walking but a lift to take you back up . Onto Auschwitz where we had a guided tour with headphones. The tour was interesting and informative and moved aT pace around the site. There are toilets and a very small and expensive kiosk selling snacks. Buy a packed lunch or take food with you there is very little time to eat during each stop. We were told traffic can be awful hence the length of the trip but we were ok and arrived back about 5.15pm.

We had michael as our guide, great guy. What a fabulous tour guide! He gave a lot of explanations, gave us enough time on all the locations and was very understanding and up for a chat.
The tour itself was also great, we started off with auswitz. Very interesting and confronting. The tour included a guide and audio devices aswell. We then went to auswotz birkenau.. a killing machine but oh so impressive to see. We were confronted by the horrors of men and what men are capable of.
Later we went for lunch and visited the salt mines. Very good tour as well and also a very wide offer of stuff in the gift shop. We sooo recommend saving room in your luggage for their amazin bath salts and you should also buy the garlic salt.. in fact, buy two as you will be sad when you run out because it is SO GOOD.
We will never forget our journey to poland and auswitz!!

The driver was really nice and explained the stops and timings throughout the whole experience. They picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel even though it was not on the hotel listing provided. The shuttle and bus were very comfortable ans we where able to watch a documentary about the liberation of Auschwitz on the way to the tour. The tour guides were knowledgeable and gave great stories and really made you think. You had alittle time to eat in between tours. Recommend you bring snacks and water or buy things along the way at the museum and before the Salt Mine tour. Wear comfortable shoes that that you won't mind getting alittle dirty if there is alittle mud and dress in layers if going in the winter months as it was cold and windy during the BIRKENAU tour becauseit was mostly outdoors. The salt mine tour will be inside and the temperature is alot warmer. Overall great experience

We more than enjoyed this trip! The driver was awsome. He started the trip explaining how the timeline will go over the day, than on the road he played us a documentary about Auschwitz.
First part of the trip left some marks in us, but the second one in salt mines was more pleasurable and worth seeing, so we recommend not to skip it.
For the way back he drop us right near the city center.
The toure was well organised and the guides were excellent! With a lot of knowledge and ready to answer every question we had.
I highly recommend to book this trip.

Can't believe how much we seen in one day. Our driver Michael was very knowledgeable and the whole trip was very well organised and ran smoothly the whole day.
The morning was spent seeing Auschwtiz and Auschwitz-Birkenau which was such an eye opener to see the tragedy that went on there.
The afternoon was spent at the salt mines which was great to see.
Overall a memorable trip that I would recommend if you are visiting Krakow.
