Do Not Recommend Discover Cracow.
This is not a review of the Auschwitz Birkenau experience but of Discover Cracow. The tour and guide at Auschwitz were great. The organization of Discover Cracow was very poor. I booked two tickets several weeks before the tour. I was instructed to send our names via email to Discover Cracow and confirm our pick up location and time a few days prior. I did both of those things. We arrived at our arranged meeting place and waited over 40 minutes for the bus to arrive. We were about to leave when an unmarked van pulled up. Apparently they changed the pick up time without telling me. They may have tried to text me, but I can’t receive texts in Europe. They did not email me re the change. They also did not have a ticket for my husband. The driver was not friendly and kept saying he is only the bus driver. What I figured out is that you’re essentially paying Discover Cracow to arrange your transportation with a different company and set you up with a guide once at Auschwitz. We never met anyone from Discover Cracow and there was basically zero customer service. Once at Auschwitz, the driver got a ticket for my husband (I thought he was only the driver?!)
The tour was very good. Our guide was excellent.
Once we were done with Birkenau, our driver drove back to Auschwitz where we waited for over 20 minutes to pick up two random people. No explanation from the driver. In the end, I expected a 6 hour day, and it ended up being 9. Beware when booking with Discover Cracow.

We are very sorry that you had to wait 40 minutes and the information about the change of time did not reach you. The driver is responsible for safe transportation to and from Auschwitz and for taking the group to the guide. If he was unpleasant to you, please report it, we will talk to the driver about it. The employees of Discover Cracow are at your disposal every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and work in the office, where they handle reservations, while other people take care of transport. The trip you bought is not private, there are also other people for whom the driver is responsible, so you had to wait for it.

Detailed tour with plenty of time to consider the enormity of the situation
Sep 2020
We were lucky to have a very good guide in Krys, his English was very good enabling an informative, detailed tour. Even during the pandemic, the social distancing and mask wearing was enforced. Very moving and something everyone should experience.
Only downside was the pick-up where we could have done with a guide in addition to the driver as it's 1.5 hours from Krakow but maybe not possible in current pandemic.

How Could This Happen
Sep 2020 • Family
All arrangements from collection times & transfer were excellent.
Very interesting & thought provoking tour as you would expect. I will need to return as some of the exhibition spaces are not accessible at present due to Covid restrictions.
Tour guide was excellent & gave us plenty of time for Q&A at the end however due to Covid, sometimes we needed to move from an area as other groups couldn’t enter until we had left.

Well organised trip
I booked this trip through TripAdvisor paid and got all the pick up details through by email , was little unsure about the pick up point so I checked it out the day before where the location was ,arrived early and mini van came on time.
Had 1.5 hour drive to the site then got checked in got our headsets , lucky I brought id with me as this is required to get the headset .
The first tour of Auschwitz 1 lasted about 1.5 hours the tour guide was knowledgeable about the site , but I think after doing this a few times a day would get to know the place well nevertheless was interesting if never been there before , after the first tour we had a short break then into the mini van over to birkenau camp which involved another 1.5 hour tour and over quite a long distance from car park to entrance then round the camp , a few people started to drop out and head back to the pick up point , maybe due to the distance and was a particularly hot day .
The tour was a little rushed as they seem to be working to deadlines and a lot of ground to cover.
On arrival at the camp we were told not to bring in bags bigger than a4 size so any lunch was left in the van , so best have breakfast before you leave or eat on the way .
One thing I did notice I wanted to buy a few guide books from Auschwitz at Auschwitz 1 book shop they were 13 and 15 zloty and at the book shop at the end of birkenau they were 20 and 20 zloty , I questioned the price difference for exact same books and was just shown the price .
No biggy was still a good day out and educational and didn’t break the bank was around 30 pound for transfers and entrance ticket .

The trip was around 7.5 hours with a 1.5 hour drive each way, the trip is fantastic, A real eye opener. The transfer and guide were brilliant. The English speaking guide was very knowledgeable and the headphones used at Auschwitz l is a brilliant idea. Everyone who visits Krakow needs to do this trip.

Amazing tour
Mar 2020
Booked with Discover Krakow before we came away. Picked up on time with a very friendly and informative guide who showed us everything around Auschwitz I and II. I would say there is a lot of walking involved during the tour so you must be aware of this and large bags are not permitted so we left ours on the coach for when we had lunch. There is a lot to take it so glad we had a guide. Its a very moving tour and can be upsetting in places but well worth it, everyone should visit this place at least once.

Fantastic tour and a moving experience
Feb 2020
A high paced tour that delivered an exceptional experience. The guide was excellent, informative yet concise, well expressed in English, and her tone was perfectly pitched for what was an emotional undertaking for all involved. I was pleased that all visitors behaved in a respectful manner on site; this helped to justify our visit. You should not have any qualms about visiting Auschwitz as a tourist; it works as an overall experience. The only slight improvement could be regarding the send off from the office in Krakow. The wearing of group stickers, the announcement on the bus that "Any questions? Good, no time for questions!", and "you will be looked after by our people once you arrive at the camp" had somewhat unfortunate undertones.

You have to visit if in Krakow
Feb 2020
We booked tickets before we travelled, a lot of companies do these trips but we thought discover Cracow were a good price and we booked through Viator. We called into the office on the day we arrived in Krakow to confirm our pick up time. The transfer was in a small minibus so not too many people in our group, we were all given a sticky badge with the coach number on it to wear for the day so we could all stay together. You are not allowed food or drink in Auschwitz (except a bottle of water) and you do go through airport style security. You can leave a bag with food etc on the bus and there are opportunities to have it. We chose an English tour guide and initially it was hard to understand her but we got used to it. Understandably it was really busy and sometimes easy to get seperated from the rest of the party as it was a bit rushed so not easy to read everything but it was very informative. There were a lot of steps to go up and down but nothing too strenuous in the Auschwitz part of the day. We were then escorted back to the bus for the short trip to Birkenhau. We didn't realise how much walking there would be on this part and on uneven ground. It was bitterly cold too but once again it had to be seen to be believed. There are toilets on both sites but there is a small fee so make sure you have some change on you. It was a very emotional and informative day and unbelievable to hear and see evidence of the horrors that took place.

Feb 2020
It was worth a visit, there was lots to see but because it is a mega busy place you can't read everything. It was good having a guide because they do tell you stuff that you don't get to read about. I actually felt taking photo's was a bit weird.
