What to expect
  • Established in the early 1940s by the Nazis, Auschwitz was originally intended for Polish political prisoners. Later, when it was extended to include the neighboring site of Birkenau, it became an extermination camp for primarily European Jews, killing an estimated 1.1 million people. Begin your trip at your Krakow hotel, where a driver will meet you at your preferred pickup time. Arrive outside the town of Oświęcim around 1.5 hours later, where you’ll join up with your guide at the camp’s visitor center. Enter the gates of the complex under the chilling inscription of ‘Arbeit macht frei’ (‘Work sets you free’) and explore the key buildings and exhibitions that preserve the memory of the many lives lost there. Learn how the Nazi camp functioned as you pass the barracks and watchtowers, as well as the gas chambers and crematoriums. Your guide will take care to discuss the harrowing stories in a sensitive manner as you go. You will have a brief break to eat a pre-packed lunch (own expense), as there are no eating facilities at the camp. Afterward, visit the camp's memorial, and spend a quiet moment to remember the lives of the victims. Your tour will conclude with private transportation back to your Krakow hotel.

Well organised tour of a very thought provoking location
Sep 2019
Pick up arranged direct from our hotel and the bus parked right outside on time. Lovely friendly driver who introduced himself and told us the plan from the start. Nice drive to Auschwitz then we’ll organised when we got there. Had some free time to visit the loo before the tour. The tour itself was very poignant and especially thought provoking when we then went onto Birkeau camp. I’d definitely recommend this tour company.

Poor guide but very moving place.
We did a guided tour around both of these sites and the memorials were very moving and informative. The minibus collected us at our hotel and we watched a video on the 1.5 hr journey to the camps, which was great for context.
There are places to eat and toilets ( 2zls) when you arrive at the car park outside of the camp. We had bought food and water with us so eat these and had a drink before started the tour after meeting the English speaking organiser who explained the itinerary.

So far so good.
The problem for us lay with the guide who seemed to have a set script that she rarely veered from. She spoke English fluently and seemed a nice lady but didn’t engage well with the subject matter
There were also LOTS of other tours on the same path and it felt strangely disrespectful to be shepherded through one after the other.

Questions asked of the guide were not answered with any degree of knowledge other than that that you could gather from any of the information boards. Also time was limited so we were often hurried along.

The minibus took us back to the hotel afterwards which was a plus.
.
All in all this is a place that I would highly recommend visiting but with hind-site I personally would go without a guide, so that you are able to take you time and show this place and those who perished here the respect they deserve.

Great - but sad day
I highly recommend this company for a day tour of Auschwitz-Birkenau. (Booked through Viator) We were on time, the bus was comfy (with a video shown) and had an informative and friendly tour guide with us for the day who told us so many facts and some personal stories. You could tell she really cared about her job. I already knew a lot about Auschwitz, but learnt so many new things on the day

Great Service
Used Discover Cracow for both the Salt Mines & Auschwitz tours, a little rushed but hard to squeeze everything in but all very informative.

Also 20% discount on return airport trip.

Great service & organization on both tours, couldn’t really fault them

Auschwitz and Birkenau
Excellent guide on the tour, very informative and very clear speaking.
Feel there could have been some kind of commentary on the bus telling about the area and places
We travelled through, but only a comment didn’t take away from the actual tour.

Not A Small Group Tour with Discover Cracow
Aug 2018 • Couples
First, the Aushwitz-Berkenau sites are a must visit for anyone heading to southern Poland. Rated 5*

My 3* rating is for DiscoverCracow because their "minivan", as mentioned on their website (for this tour) was a full-size motor coach (ala 55-60 people).
Also, we were told 12:40 pick-up at our hotel, but that did no happen until 13:10.

Fantastic!
We order our tour to Auschwitz through this agency. Our companion this day in Auschwitz was fantastic. He told and axplaind about the incident around Holocaust and extinction in a very living way. The trip took seven hours, but felt much shorter because of the good companion from Discover Cracow. I can highly recommend this agency.

Awful experience
Auschwitz deserves better guides/translators than what we had to experience today. The woman who translated didn’t know ANYTHING (eg. who Anna Frank was, she also didn’t know anything about Mengele, she didn’t explain the figure of the Kapos, etc.).

The explanations were lame, the information given was contradictory from place to place (dates, numbers were changed...) and the content was very superficial, without an introduction and only talking about the surface of the issue... Very disappointing... People who had seen 2 movies about the Nazis could have done a better job than this.

We are sure more people that had the same guide as we had, will contact you soon...

We really hope we get our money back, because this is unacceptable. The worst and the most horrible experience ever! And we have visited many more Concetrantion Camps, so we really know what we are talking about. We also studied German Studies so we KNOW how much of the information was either not given, or worse - given wrongly.

We are deaply confused of how this journey to the past, which should be done with empathy and conciusness could be turned in such a disaster.

Informative Tour with Great Driver
Jul 2018 • Family
On our recent visit to Krakow, we decided to take a day-trip to Auschwitz concentration camp in the neighboring city of Oswiecimski. We contacted Discover Krakow to schedule a private drive to the camp where we would meet up with the guide. Our driver, Michael, was extremely pleasant and provided us with information both about the camp and the recent and older political developments in Poland. Overall, it was an interesting drive both to the camp and back that provided me with better insight into the culture of Poland. Once at the camp, the guide was very informative and provided knowledgeable explanations on the atrocities that took place at Auschwitz. As a sign in the camp says, “Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it”. I believe it is an important trip for anyone visiting Krakow to make and would recommend they take Discover Krakow in order to better understand the history surrounding the camp.

Good and Informative Tour
The tour started with being picked up in a nice van for transportation, and then they took us to Auschwitz. On the way, they played a documentary on the Holocaust. Once we arrived, the tour guide we met there was from the museum, and was very informative. We had the English version, and the tour guide spoke very clearly through the receiver and headphones we were given. After the tour of Auschwitz 1, we got back in the van and taken to Auschwitz 2- Birkenau, where we continued the tour. After the tour, we returned to the bus and they gave us the option of being dropped off where we were picked up, or the city center. Some people chose their pickup locations, while others chose the city center. Overall a good experience. They were all very friendly and good at explaining the rules and procedures to follow during our tour.
