- 573feliciad0 contributionsInformative and so cool!!!I wish there were more than five stars so that I could rate this tour even more. My guide was incredible! He never minded all of my questions, and half the time I didn’t even have to ask because he was so informative. Everyone in the neighborhood knew him and it just added to the appeal of the small area that we looked at. I loved riding in the car and it was a good feeling as if I were there during that time but knowing thank goodness I’m not!!Written September 29, 2024
- tonyal1660 contributionsAn amazing private tourThe best tour! Cornelia had lots of information, and she cheerfully answered all our questions. The car was fun to ride around in, and I now know I like Soviet soda!Written August 14, 2024
- Freedom336599093190 contributionsA great tourWe had a wonderful tour with Matt, who kindly accommodated us at the last minute. The tour was full of interesting information and Matt was really engaging, with personal stories mixed in with the history. A great insight into this part of Polish history.Written May 16, 2024
- twans6730 contributionsAmazing Commie car tour in CracowWe took the tour in Nov, we went with 3 different classic cars through the Nowa Huta area, this in itself was already a great experience. In addition, the guides were really amazing, gave a wonderful and very entertaining glimpse into everyday life during communism times. To top it off it was accompanied by typical drinks and foods of the period. It is a great tour to see a very different part of history, away from the big tourist attractions in the city. Definitely recommend this to everyone visiting Cracow.Written May 7, 2024

- Savetraveller26368280 contributionsAmazing time !It was amazing. I visited it with my friend and my mum and the guy spoke fluent English. Our guide also dressed up as a communist vender and the trip was very interactive overall. I learned a lot of things and had a great time. I would recommend it to everybody!Written July 28, 2023
- MartinaGPragueGuide0 contributionsKrakow TEAMBUILDINGExcellent service! We were a group on Teambuilding and Mike from Crazy Guides worked out for us the best Trabant tour option with vodka drinking, then a trip to Auschwitz and a traditional Polish dinner! We had a great time - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!Written April 7, 2023
- jacquelinejG9924JX0 contributionsA Real Tour off the beaten track- Nowa HutaBooked this on advice of our cab driver. We were picked up in a Trabant with Katolina (sorry didn’t ask spelling) anyway it was such a great experience her knowledge was incredible and the cafe and Milk bar we were taken to were excellent. Proper realist tour not churned out by a bored guide. Highly recommended if you want something a little different.Written February 16, 2023
- ClareeHampshire0 contributionsBest tour in KrakowThis is the second time I have done this tour. Mike and his team are brilliant. We chose the basic tour this time and were taken around in a 1990's VW minibus and a Trabant. Definitely worth doing.Written December 7, 2022
- karohelga0 contributionsFun with crazy guidesGroup of 11, we got the Communism tour with lunch in Workers' canteen, in the Smuggler's Van from the 1990s and communist car Soviet Lada. The tour guides were fantastic, energized and fun. Dressed up in costumes, had alot of humor and great stories to tell.Written November 27, 2022
- Noemi M0 contributionsGreat day in Nowa HutaWe had a great day in Nowa Huta. Our guide Maciej guided the four of us on a Zuk. The took us at our apartment, drove til Plac Ronald Reagan and explained us how the life was like in the 70/80. We visited the businnes and social buildings of the former steel mills in Nowa Huta. We also visited the first church in the district and we had lunch in a real Bar Mleczny. On Sunday I asked them if it was possible to buy a souvenir in the shop we visited the day before and they were so kind to call the owner that opened the shop for us. 5+ stars in my opinion!Written October 6, 2022
- morganc8210 contributionsAmazing experience. Don't miss it!This should be a must-do on anyone visiting Krakow's list. Our driver Maciek picked us up at our desired location and was super punctual. He was a great and highly knowledgeable ambassador for Trabant cars, Krakow and Nowa Huta. He regaled us with highly informative facts as well as personal anecdotes on the way to Nowa Huta and back. It really was like a trip back in time, a very good one, and it was really amazing to see all the architecture and history of this place. I highly recommend this experience. It shows you a very interesting and surprising aspect of Krakow: yes, the city centre and all the places to eat, drink and be merry are great, but this is something quite unique. You really should try it!Written October 2, 2022
- tilly16220 contributionsHilarious! If you are considering booking - do it! We haven't laughed so much in ages, Tomasz was fantastic and really pranked us at the start of our tour! He was so knowledgeable and made the experience a lot of fun. Vodka at 10 am nearly blew my head off.Written September 3, 2022
- jeff c0 contributionsNowa Huta by Trabant. Buckle up, Comrades! We took a trip to Nowa Huta, the Communist-era suburb of Krakow, with Kornelia from Crazy Guides, and we had a great time. She picked us up in a beautiful blue 1990 Trabant, and drove us out to the suburb which was built by the regime to house steel workers and their families. Kornelia was friendly, funny, and chatty. She was also a very knowledgeable guide, and it was fascinating hearing her talk about the Trabant, the former Communist regime, and the past, present, and future of Nowa Huta. She took us to a Soviet-era shop and cafe, ( where we knocked back a glass of vodka at 10am! ) and drove us around the town pointing out interesting buildings, with a running commentary as we drove. We really enjoyed this trip, and would recommend it to anyone with an interest in architecture, social history, and/or cold-war era politics,Written June 23, 2022

We did the Deluxe Communist Tour with Adriana from Crazy Guides. It was such a fun day out but also informative. Adriana was so enthusiastic and gave great insights into her family’s life under Communism. We started our tour in a Trabi and went to Nowa Huta where we visited a shop and cafe in the original style, had vodka and a pickle while we watched a propaganda movie in a Communist style apartment. We swapped cars to an old Fiat before visiting the site of the original steel works. We then swapped to another “ more luxurious “ trabi before stopping at a Soviet style “milk bar” for lunch. The food was authentic and delicious and it was interesting to see the queues of locals eating there.
We were lucky to experience the trip in three different cars. This is an experience not to be missed!

We were a group of 10 ladies who were transported in 3 vintage vehicles, stopping at several spots of interest throughout the communist tour, enabling us to swap and enjoy each vehicle.
We were picked up at the agreed location and perfectly on time.
Our drivers were friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable and made the tour lighthearted and fun.
Every single one of us thoroughly enjoyed this tour and would highly recommend (in fact for me it was the second time I have taken the tour).
Thank you to Crazy Guides and all your team for allowing us to experience apart of Kraków which is not on the "typical" tourist map and learn a little more of what life was like after the war and under the communist regime.
Excellent 👏

We booked to go on the communist tour not quite knowing what to expect and were delighted we did.
We were picked up at the agreed location in a beautifully maintained Trabant, by Cornella (apologies if I misspelt the name).
We were driven to the model communist town of Nowa Huta expecting it to be a drab and soulless place but we couldn’t be more wrong. The architecture of the town has a feel of Paris or London about it and a very beautiful shop which we visited. Cornella explained how the town came into being and the history behind it, very fascinating.
Included in the cost of the trip was a visit to a Milk Bar, again we weren’t sure what that was, it turned out to be diner frequented by local people with local dishes which when they were gone were erased from the menu. We both had perogies and a strawberry drink, both were surprisingly good, you will see other places claiming to be Milk Bars but this was authentic. After that we went to a local bar where, again included in the price we had a drink in an authentic communist bar. Whilst we were having a drink we had a real potted history of the town and the steelworks that grew up around the town.
We then visited the steelworks, largely closed down these days so were taken to the administration buildings where we went to the “bunker” where the hierarchy would have coordinated the place if the country had been attacked by the west in darker time. This was incredibly interesting, it was largely unchanged since the last sixties early seventies with maps still in place, communications equipment still ready for use along with many other interesting artifacts.
Finally we were driven to see a tank parked in a residential area of the town and finally back into Krakow.
A great day out, thank you Cornella for being such a great host. Certainly the highlight of my trip to Krakow
I would recommend this tour very highly, very unusual, informative and interesting.

Having been to Krakow many times I looked for something different to do. My step son has come to live here with his Polish girlfriend and the 4 of us took the Communist tour.
We were met outside our apartment by our 2 guides in a Lada and a Trabant. We kept switching cars to exlerience both.
Our guides were very knowledgable and added their and their families own experiences.
We saw a great deal which included the purpose built town, a shop which had changed very little, a cafe, outside the factory and a typical flat from the soviet era.
This combined with vodka and good laughs made up an ideal afternoon.
Highly recommended.

The car was fun and it got a lot of stares as we drove around, but it should not have been the focus of the tour. While I did see a bit of how communists lived outside of Krakow, far too much of the information presented was about engine sizes and fuel gauges and Fiats made here and there and Skodas and Russian engines vs. Polish engines… We did 4 excursion tours and 2 walking tours while in Krakow and this was my 6th favorite activity. Still gave it 3 stars, because it was interesting to see a bit of a planned community and it was fun, just didn’t expect it to be so focused on the car itself.
Also, we paid extra for the deluxe option and the bunker was the highlight of the tour, but I wouldn’t recommend the deluxe. The meal costs virtually nothing, so you’re better off taking a cab to a milkbar of your own and we were not offered the Polish vodka, even though we paid for it.

Thx for the review :) Vintage cars are an important part of the tour, some people book it just because of the cars. As you had a chance to be driven in 2 different cars on the tour, maybe you just got more info about cars than usual. Nowa Huta district is a post industrial area, rarely visited by tourists, that is why we organize tours there, as we show alternative sights in Krakow. In our opinion this history is fascinating, but it's totally incomparable to regular tours you did in Krakow (Old Town, Auschwitz, Salt Mine). We try to be alternative, a lot of people book our tours from the reason, that we are alternative and we do not guide in popular spots packed with tourists, as we want to show some real vibe of the city. I understand you might not be fascinated with Nowa Huta, but we cannot help for that :) As for the Deluxe option, it's more expensive as it includes entrance to bunkers (museum) and a lunch. Regarding the price of the Deluxe option, please note it's a private tour, with vintage car that is more expensive in maintaining than new ones, and also 50% of the price goes directly to Viator and Polish tax office, so our mark-up is really minimal.
All the best

I wasn't sure whether to book a tour as I was travelling with my 3.5 year old son but I am SO glad I did!
The company went above and beyond, hunting down a car seat so that my son would be as safe as possible during the tour.
I mentioned that I'd booked because I'm a history nerd and my son is car-obsessed so I hoped that the tour would be good for both of us!
Our guide interacted with my son and even threw in several car facts for him throughout the day. He was super friendly and passionate about the subject. I was recommended a few films too!
I loved everything that I learned and I am so thankful!
Thanks again ☺️

We did the Communism deluxe tour with our two daughters, without a doubt the best tour / experience of our trip. From the moment we meet Tomek in his militia polish lada he was in full character which had us all laughing from 10am. We went out to Nowa Huta which was a a model city for communism, Tomek brought to life his childhood growing up there, it was so interesting seeing the buildings and being able to walk around them, which in some ways were strangely beautiful. We went into the HQ of the steel works in the admin building and how grand it was versus the workers admin area, even in communism some were more equal than others. A lunch in a traditional old school Milk Bar so interesting to see how popular these still are. All of us enjoyed the local cuisine really great experience for the girls to see and experience. Without a doubt it was Tomek that made this tour so special. I cant recommended this tour enough. If you are in Krakow then a crazy guide tour is essential.

Fantastic experience, and a very original idea. 3 of us went on the deluxe version and enjoyed every minute of it. Great anecdotes and lots of local knowledge made the whole experience very memorable. We somehow didn't get the vodka + pickles but I only noticed this when we got back home and checked what we had booked. To be honest, everything was so great, it made no difference. No biggie, as they say. We actually booked this the night before and it took minutes to get a reply and orgnise everything. Our driver / guide (Maciek) was super punctual, cheerful and knowledgeable.
Definitely give it a go if you have half a day. Thoroughly recommended.

Tomek is an absolute legend, what a guy!. We go away to many locations on city breaks as two couples, and the Crazy Tour was one of the best things we have ever done. Tomek was extremely Funny, enlightening and such an incredible host. From the hilarious start to the finish he delivered a cultural and historic tour that really brought everything to life. When we come back, we will do the full tour next time. I'd give this experience more stars if it was possible.

What a experience!!! I chose the 3.5 Deluxe tour to Nowa Huta, and I could not be happier I took this decision, and it absolutely worth the money. First off, my very polite and sweet guide pick me up in a original and very well kept DDR Trabant, she would drive me to Nowa Huta, the place is beyond beautiful, outstanding architecture, green areas where everything you breath is history about this place that's an colosal part of what is Poland today, with a very patient attitude and detailed attention she would explain the history behind this place using maps, pictures, and experiences told first hand by residents that lived through those hard times, then they will drive you to the Civil Defense bunkers, the smell, the dim lights, the colder temperature once you are walking downstairs it's an incredible experience, it really works like a TIME MACHINE! dont ever miss it, last not for least, we go to eat "pierogis" a typical Polish dish, I highly recommend to order "pierogis" filled with spinachs! delicious and affordable meal that will switch on your Polish side! Greateful to Crazy Guides for this experience.

I picked the time for the tour I took. Not sure if they have scheduled group tours. My schedule was tight and I only had a few hours after 4 pm on that day, so I arranged for a private tour. Which wasn't a problem for them. Someone picked me up at 4, drove me around, took me to a restaurant for vodka, etc. I was back in the old town at 7 pm.

For the Deluxe Tour are you walking constantly for 2 and a half hours or is this broken up at different places?
