This film museum is a well-curated little spot with a not only highly knowledgeable staff, but it is very obvious they all care about film deeply.

As a former film student (a fact I love to throw around and then feel bad about it, but I think the staff is far too kind to take offense to slightly douchy behaviour), I have seen a couple of film museums – I think this one might be the most interactive one.

I visited alone and could have easily spent more time than the one to two hours I was there, had I taken the time to animate my own movie or record my own track for dubbing. It was very obvious that the numerous families with kids and teenagers visiting were having a good time as well, as the museum focuses on the technical side of visuals, sound, animation as well as the history of early film, which allows for many stations of interactive fun.

Also quite adorable is the tiny selection of – as I imagine – carefully selected items in the gift shop. I opted for very stylish tote bags that were illustrated with references to Czech films. As I then learned the staff picks these movies from their personal favourites and has (designer) friends create the illustrations. Not only did the very friendly woman (I forgot to ask her name!) at the reception write down the names of the films for me, she also offered to mail me more info, shouldn't Google do the job.

I think the museum might be a spot similar to the record store in High Fidelity without the pretentious snobbery, just with the same amount of love for something the staff really cares about.

Oh, and every exhibit comes with an English explanation and everyone speaks perfect English. Don't worry if you can only say hello in Czech (like me).

What a wonderful comment - we really really appreciate it! To hear such words especially from someone like yourself with such experience with film history and film museums really means a lot to us, and completely makes the many days, months and years we spent working on every detail of the exhibitions (and sleepless nights choosing every single item for the gift shop) well worth it! <3

The museum was amazing, really worth a visit. Not only does it tell the story and history of filmmaking, it's also interactive and therefore a lot of fun! Great for smaller children but also as adults we enjoyed it all very much. Plan to spend some time here so that you can really try out everything - from early cameras and movie making, to audio, czech avant-garde and animations...
Very much recommended when staying in Prague!

This was one of my best experiences in Prague!
The staff was always very friendly, willing to answer any questions and help you get your bearings even outside the museum.

I had the honor of being guided by one of the co-founders. His explanations were short, clear and very interesting. Even though he might have told the same things hundreds of times, you could see his interest in his eyes and hear it in his voice.

The museum is very dynamic, there are stations to see, others to hear and there are several stations where you can try things out. At the end you can create your own animation and they send it to you at no additional cost to your email in just a few hours (I received mine just 20 minutes later.)

I would have loved to stay longer and have a matcha latte with cake at the coffee but the museum was so interesting that I left at closing time.

A highly recommended place for adults and children. If I go back to Prague I will definitely come back. Thanks for the nice experience!

I went to Prague with my mum for her retirement the week of 24th Feb and came across this museum by chance and thought it would be interesting and it was! We were kindly greeted when we arrived which was nice. It was very interactive and it was so interesting to see how each process of film making worked. When we got to certain interactive parts of the museum we had a lady that worked there come over to us and showed us how to work machinery ect. There’s an amazing virtual reality part which is great and my mum (65) was very impressed. I would highly recommend if you want to see how films were made each step through the times. Would definitely go back again to show my friends if I get the chance. Highly recommend.

The museum itself was really cool with many interesting sections and a lot of interactive stuff - great for kids and adults. The founders were all there when we visited and they were really helpful, joining us for parts of the exhibition to guide us through everything and discuss film with us. I highly, highly recommend it.

The museum reveals a straightforward, fun approach to how cinema came about. This is a hands on museum that allows the guest to interact with the basic principles of film making. Perhaps most importantly it is curated by students, and their love and joy of film shines through the experience. You can’t help but leave happy after experiencing this nonconventional museum!

Went closer to closing time so there were less people enabling us to access all interactive parts. Recommend going in final two hours.

Excellent museum. ❤️ 🎥

Great to see both national and international film history being represented.

You can see and feel the staff’s passion for film throughout. They were super lovely and very knowledgeable about the different aspects. Very interactive and informative.

One of my favourite things my girlfriend and I did in Prague :)

This was an outstanding afternoon for the whole family. The staff are friendly and helpful. You learn everything about the history of film and technology behind it. As a bonus, you can create your own short animation that can be sent to your email.
If I had to criticize anything, it is the fact that you have to pay cash. Prepare the real money to get the tickets, gifts or coffees in the little cafe at the entrance.

I really liked it. I was really well surprised how interesting, interactive, but informative at the same time it was. The whole exhibition is English friendly and there is also a very friendly staff who would assist you with interactive activities. You can feel the love for film of people who created it. I highly recommend this museum.
