What to expect
Prague is known for its historical landmarks that date as far back as the Gothic and Renaissance eras, but when you’re ready to move forward a few hundred years, this private walking tour of the city’s Art Nouveau and Cubist architecture introduces you to a more recent history of the city. With your private guide, learn about the design aspects of Art Nouveau, from ornate light fixtures to curvy typography on signs that echoed the contemporary posters and magazines of the day. Spot interesting features on the façades of buildings, such as gingko biloba leaves, which reveal the style’s oriental influences. Visit the Lucerna Bar, once owned by Vaclav Havel’s family, and see the K+K Hotel Central Prague; both of these venues illustrate a moment of Czech optimism at the turn of the 20th century, signaling the country’s readiness to join Europe by participating in avant-garde trends.

Changed the way I looked at architecture
Jul 2020
Going on this tour with Bonita changed the way I looked at the architecture in Prague. The day after the tour I found myself recognising the history of a building by the particular details she had helped us to identify. It felt wonderful to really 'see' the city and not just experience it as a beautiful background. Really recommend.

Private Art Nouveau

I have been using Insight Cities as my "go to" for touring American study abroad students (I am a Site Director for a US Study abroad provider). Along with Vadim who gives Prague Introduction and Cold War tours to our groups, we often arrange Bonita's tour focused on Art Nouveau and Cubist Architecture. My students get to know some of the most exquisite Prague buildings along with storytelling that brings them to life. Like Vadim, Bonita is an engaging guide who gets a dialogue going instead of listing facts and dates. I highly recommend this company if you want a tour by folks who know their stuff and who are genuinely amazing people.

Thanks for the great feedback. Wow, do we miss your student groups. Here's hoping that 2021 sees the solution to the pandemic and the recovery of overseas study and travel. It's been a special pleasure to tour you and your students over the years.

An insider tour of cubist and art nouveau Prague
Feb 2020
Having discussed my interests with Bonita in advance, she was able to tailor our tour to exactly what I wanted to see - the things, that, as they say, you won’t find in a guide book. Gočar’s House of the Black Madonna I would have been able to discover on my own but gems like Legio Banka and the Hotel Central - not so sure! Bonita is a lovely guide whose love for the city is apparent in how she put her heart and soul into designing my tour.

Thanks for the warm words. It's a big encouragement for our whole team of historian guides at such a difficult time for travel. Thanks for taking Insight Cities tours in Vienna, Budapest and Prague. I think that leaves Berlin and Munich. We hope to see you again on our tours in those cities!

Beautiful Prague with an amazing tour guide Bonita!
Oct 2019
This tour was designed primarily for teen kids, I have attended with my two teen kids. We enjoyed the 2hour walk through Prague's Art Nouveau gems - I had no idea we have such an amazing buildings in the city centre. Bonita gave us so much information about the history of the buildings, the architecture. The tour was informative, interesting and so well organised! I recommend it entirely!

Interesting, informative, amazing tour

This was easily the best tour I've ever been on. I learned so much about the city, and couldn't have asked for a more knowledgeable guide. It was great to see new places and see place I already knew, but in a new light. Bonita is the best and I highly recommend seeing Prague's Art Nouveau and Cubist treasures with Bonita.

Amazingly informative AND interesting tours!!!
Jan 2020
Our Prague guide Vadim was amazing!!! He came highly recommended to us by another family who had toured with him the previous year. He comes with a very enticing agenda for the tour and incredible depth of knowledge that he is able to make enjoyable for all age levels. He is also very amenable to make changes to the agenda on the fly based on group consensus. One recommendation I would give is that if you want to focus on one particular piece of Prague and go inside any of the more popular sites for deeper exploration - you should ask that reservations be made in advance. For our part, we naively thought we'd be able to just go in to the Jewish Quarter and visit the synagogues without reservations. That was our mistake.

Thanks so much for your lovely review. Vadim enjoyed getting to tour you and your family in Prague and we hope to see you in on Insight Cities tours in Berlin, Vienna, Budapest in the future. You are giving excellent advice if you mean that travelers cannot always hope to book a great tour or guide last minute during high season. Our tours do get entirely booked out although we try our best to accommodate even last minute requests. But Prague's ancient synagogues and other iconic sites do not require reservations to visit on your own. Visitors can almost always expect to get entrance tickets unless it is a Jewish holiday. But maybe you mean that advance planning is helpful for booking your tours. Thanks again for the nice feedback.

Bonita is Prague's Art Nouveau and Cubist expert. The tour was insightful, informative and full of nuance that was tailored to our personal understanding and experience with the field. It was also a fun and enjoyable experience. This is hands-down, the best Prague tour, I have been on.

We're very determined to hang on because it is a big joy for our whole team of historian guides to open our cities up for travelers and for locals. Thanks again! Hope to see you on Insight Cities tours in other Berlin, Vienna and Budapest as well!

Fantastic Tour!
Jul 2019
We took a group of US college students studying abroad in Prague for the summer on this wonderful tour! Bonita gave a phenomenal 3-hour presentation on Czech/Czechoslovakian interwar history, culture and architecture that really made the city come alive for our students in a whole new way. I've been to Prague many times, but I learned many new things on this tour myself. I even found myself looking at Prague's beautiful buildings with different eyes after the tour. Our students loved the experience, especially getting to see some hidden gems in the city they would never find on their own. It's clear that Bonita knows the city inside and out. I can't recommend this tour, and Insight Tours generally, highly enough!

Thanks for your review and for your bright, engaging students. I love giving this particular tour precisely because it involves many unexpected interiors and because I'm fascinated myself with Prague's dramatic history in the 19th and 20th centuries. Giving the tour for university students is an extra joy for me! We hope we'll have the chance to tour for your overseas program again in Prague and in our other cities.
