We traveled big distance , but the van was very comfy.lunch was traditional food and we all tried something different. It was delicious , but we had worked up an appetite. - fritzhelbert0 contributionsAmazing Memorable Day with Northern Hikes MichalAmazing! From the very start of the day, our guide Michal with Northern Hikes was warm and friendly. He picked us up where we were staying in Prague, and let us know that my wife and I were the only two on the tour that day. Our own private tour! We spent the entire day together, with Michal showing us the region and it's natural wonder. He went at our pace and made sure we were getting the full experience, as well as clueing us in to some of his own favorite secrets. The natural beauty of the parks speak for themselves. But what really set it apart was the personal attention of our guide. Given that we were only three, we were able to chat about many subjects over the course of the day and really get to know each other. Michal is such a kind and interesting person. He really made the entire day that much more special. The trip is beautiful, ultra-convenient, and an incredible value for what you get. Plan to spend a day with Northern Hikes when in Prague. You wouldn't be able to do all this without a guide, at least not easily if you are not European or don't speak Czech/German. The tour was an instant recommendation to our local friends, and I can't say enough positive things about it!Written April 28, 2024

- ZhentaoL20 contributionsBest Private Tour ExperienceI will started with why I chose Northern Hikes over its competitors. For this December hiking trips, I reached out to a few similar services in the region for a private costumed tour. They all offered the private tour services. However, the Northern Hikes stood out as they didn't show the eagerness to just take my business, instead, they detailed the the length of hike and stated how physical demanding it will be. They also points out to avoid the coward, I must visited the park before a certain date in December. This alone shows their professionalism already, and made me decided to go with them. In addition, their prices is very competitive against the other offers. Several days before the planned trip, they contacted me and offered me an option to make some adjustment on my itinerary because the heavy snow made some hiking trail much more difficult to access, but if I want to stick to the original plan, they will provide safety equipment. I chose to trust the guide and changed the plan, and looking back, I am glad I did. The night before my hike, they sent me the information and picture of my tour guide Marek, and he would picked me up where I live in Prague. I was offered some snake and water as the breakfast. Marek is very knowledgeable and we had lots of great conversation throughout the trip. During the hiking, he will often take a pause along the way, and points out something that will be overlooked had I travel alone myself. He is also very helpful and proactively helping me put on the spike on the shoes whenever we are about to enter a slippery area. The lunch we had was amazing, I had venison for lunch, very fitting when you are in the woods. The private tours allow you to visit more places in one day, and the price they quote includes everything, based on the service your received and the top quality lunch you are going to have, I will say it well worth the money, thus I highly recommend to book a private tour with Northern Hike.Written January 4, 2024
- 967brendan0 contributionsA magical experienceThis review is for the Lanterns of Narnia - Special Night Walk. This hike wasn’t about what you saw as much as what you experienced. Walking along snow-covered paths through the spectacular sandstone pillars rising towards the sky illuminated by your own lantern was absolutely magical. Add Pavla’s unwavering enthusiasm and knowledge, and you have the perfect adventure.Written December 18, 2023
- Roam5748960 contributionsFabulous winter wonderland! When our guide and driver Lenka met us at our hotel for the pick up, we knew immediately that she would be one of the highlights of our day and not just the wonderful hike in the snow and beautiful scenery. She was warm and friendly, knowledgeable, a good driver, and clearly loved her work. We had a full complement of seven in our group. Three couples and one solo. All lovely people and one couple from the same city as us…Perth, Australia! The hike up to the Pravcicka Gate was worth the uphill effort (not too demanding at all really) and the views along the way stunning, despite the forest having been severely damaged by recent fires. We wore spikes and used hiking poles, and this we would recommend, as it is easy to slip on the snow and ice. Lenka provided these for those in our group who did not have their own. The downhill return hike was an opportunity to get to know each other a little more and then we settled for lunch in a warm and cosy traditional Czech restaurant. Pictured is the dish Lenka recommended we try and it did not disappoint. Succulent piece of beef in a creamy, slightly sweet vegetable sauce mopped up with tasty “dumplings”. I washed mine down with a frothy beer and my wife with a nice glass of white wine. We paid a tiny bit extra to try the apple strudel cake for desert and it was as expected…yum ! We then had an hours drive to the Bastei Bridge in Germany and it was again a spectacle to behold. A stone bridge constructed in the late 1800s that replaced the original wooden bridge from medieval times. After lots of photos, with Lenka acting as unofficial photographer it was soon dark and time for the drive back to Prague to our hotel. We got there at about 6.30 having set off from Prague at 8am that morning. A day filled with adventure, great company, beautiful scenery, lovely food and wonderful memories. Thank you Northern Hikes and especially Lenka for making our day so enjoyable (and safe). So well worth it!Written December 9, 2023

- 988sterlingt0 contributionsWorth Every Penny!!What an amazing experience! Definitely a highlight of the trip to Prague. Our day trip to Bohemian Switzerland National Park included a hike where Narnia was filmed, and an enchanting sightseeing spot on the border of Germany. Going in off-season (November) was great because we were practically the only ones hiking. It was cold (dress for snow), but the colors were beautiful, and it started snowed just as we finished the hike. We got lucky with the weather, but it was truly magical. Lenka, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and we felt really cared for. She brought car snacks, gave us hot tea and mulled wine on our hike, and took us to a charming restaurant for lunch. It was a great winter activity!Written November 24, 2023

Our family of 4 (kids ages 16 & 19) joined 2 others and our Northern Hikes guide, Marek, for a magical walk through the Narnia labyrinth. The tour included a snack bag, WiFi aboard the shuttle van, a warm cup of mead atop a craggy peak overlooking a majestic valley, and a hearty traditional lunch at a lovely restaurant where I discovered a new beverage: warm pear juice with cinnamon and cloves — delicious! Bohemian Switzerland did not disappoint; the rock formations and paths were fun to explore. Marek brought his iPad and showed us the places in the park where scenes from Narnia were filmed. We headed just over the border into Germany after lunch to see the Bastei Bridge. This area was more highly trafficked with tourists, but beautiful nonetheless. It was a satisfying day away from the city: fresh air, nature, and gorgeous scenery. Marek was a super guide — a true local from the area — and a wealth of information. We enjoyed our day with Northern Hikes and learned a lot about the Czech culture along the way!

One of the best experiences in our life! The Top 3 Highlights of Bohemian and Saxon Switzerland.
It all began when I first contacted Northern Hikes via the facebook page of them. From the first moment, they supported and answered to all our questions. They even gave us advice about how we could prepare ourselves for the hike! Vitek thank you for everything mate!
One day before the hike, they sent us the last information needed, the weather forecast, the name and a photo of our guide and what clothing should we choose!
The Big Day! Marek or guide arrived at exactly the time they had informed us, he offered us some snacks but from the first moment he made us feel comfortable and safe! For the whole hike offered us the best advice, took us a million photos and I knew that I had a person with me who cared about our security. Thank you for everything Marek, we really wish you the best!
The hike was long, around 20km but the sand-based paths made it pretty easy for our bodies, don’t be afraid of it, the beauty of the place makes you feel like you are in the middle of a movie scene and elves will jump out of a tree! Magic!
For the whole day we didn’t pay anything extra, Marek even paid the fee for the toilets needed in a hotel close to Bastei Bridge.
Summing up, Northern Hikes offered us a quality tour, a lifetime experience and a day that we cannot find anything that went wrong.
Professionalism and love for the natural beauty of their country! Congratulations Northern Hikes!

Wow. This trip and my amazing guide (Marek) exceeded any expectations I had! I knew I wanted to venture outside of Prague and see other areas of Czech Republic, and I am so glad I did!
I was picked up right in front of my AirBnb and greeted by Marek. He informed me I was actually going to be the only one on the tour (I was there during the winter time). Marek was an incredible guide -- he had an answer for every question I asked (even regarding the history of Czech Republic, he offered to take many pictures of me, and he ensured I was safe and took care of anything I needed.
Not only was the experience amazing, the views and the hike were breathtaking. I truly recommend setting aside a day of your travels to go on this hike with Northern Hikes!

Hello, thank you so much for this review !
We always go on tour even if there is just 1 guest booked. No last moment cancellations like some others tour companies do. This is Northern Hikes :) Thank you for commenting on this aspect.
I am personally very glad you've liked the sites, views and hike itself. That's the reason why we started our company - to show there is way more highlights to see in the Czech Republic than just touristy Prague.
We hope to see you back one day on one of our new tours. Thank you.
Best wishes, Vitek - Owner & Founder, Northern Hikes

What a wonderful day experiencing the natural beauty of Bohemia and Saxony! Pavla, our excellent guide and driver from Northern Hikes, shared her knowledge and passion as we walked and boated through Kamenice Gorge, toured the quaint village of Schmilke, and surveyed the rock formations and historic bridge at Bastei. A gorgeous international park in the heart of Europe, not to be missed. If you want a change of pace from city touring but don’t want to drive yourself (and fight parking situations similar to American national parks 😳), then we highly recommend Pavla and Northern Hikes in Praha!

Boheian Switzerland national park was wonderful. Our guide Adam was a good source of information on the area and the flora and fauna. Saxon Swtizerland was also beautiful. We arrived about an hour before sunset and the lighting was great for pictures. As this was winter it was not as crowded as the summer months.

We spent a week in Prague, and our day long tour with Northern Hikes to the Bohemian Switzerland National Park was one of the highlights of our Prague trip. We highly recommend Northern Hikes to everyone considering leaving the city for a day to enjoy the great outdoors.
Working with Northern Hikes was the best experience we have ever had in scheduling a private group tour for a family of eight. From the very first contact (via email) the staff was wonderful to work with. Our advice is to be open to their suggestions as they certainly know the Park, and will not let you down.
Our guide, Pavla, was very knowledgeable and informative, and added to making our experience completely enjoyable. The scenery and sights were breathtakingly beautiful, and the lunch at a quaint Czech restaurant was delicious and relaxing. Pavla was willing to stop and take pictures of our group, and even recommended “photo op” places.
Go into the Czechia great outdoors with NORTHERN HIKES…you will be glad you did!

Marek was an incredible guide who was extremely knowledgeable about the history and fun facts about the country and the sites we visited. He was very good at communicating the plan and itinerary and checking in to make sure everyone was comfortable. The views were absolutely stunning, the Tisa Rocks were amazing, I feel like pictures barely capture how it feels to see it in person. The lunch was delicious, it was at a beautiful hotel with numerous options including traditional Czech food. And the Bastei bridge also has spectacular views, I really enjoyed this tour and thought it was well worth it! Definitely a must do if you're visiting, a very different part of the country to visit and a highlight of my time in Europe!

Our original booking was cancelled due to lack of numbers, so we were offered an alternative. It was brilliant. The company sent us a message a head of time so we could track the buses arrival. We were handed water and cereal bags as we got on board. The mini bus was comfy. Our tour guide Matej was incredibly knowledgeable and shared interesting facts about geology and history all the way round. The food at lunch was delicious, I’d recommend the trout, an extra special touch was the pancakes they bought out for my husbands birthday, they popped a candle in them and sang! The people on the tour were all like minded and were very nice to talk to. The only slight issue was that were were told we’d be back by 6-6:30 at the latest when we transferred over to this trip as we made another booking which was already paid for, for the evening, we didn’t leave Saxony until 5:30 so had to be dropped straight to the restaurant in our hiking gear, it was lovely of Matej and the others on the tour to accommodate this for us, but would have preferred time to change. All in all a brilliant day of hiking in a beautiful place.

Joe, thank you for your thoughtful review! We're delighted to hear that your alternative tour turned out to be a brilliant experience. We appreciate your feedback on the smooth communication and logistics:-) We're sorry to hear about the slight timing issue but are glad that our guide and the group accommodated your schedule, even if it meant arriving at your dinner reservation in hiking gear.
Thank you for sharing your experience, and we're glad you enjoyed a day of hiking in such a beautiful place!

Our walk hit all our expectations and more. Being in the quiet season and not knowing if there would be snow or not we were pleasantly surprised that the first location was the wintery scene we were hoping for! Marek had a wealth of local and historical knowledge and was cool to hang out with for the day. He also stopped and took plenty of photos for us which kept my girlfriend even happier. Plus the bonus of quiet season was that our first stop we basically had the trail to ourselves seeing only 1 other local. Even the Bastei bridge we didn't have to deal with crowds, we could just quietly take in the views.
We highly recommend a trip with Marek and Northern Hikes if you're in Prague

What I love about hiking is the end goal where you get to bask in the views at the top. The views offered by Northern Hikes did not disappoint, they know the good spots. You know what's even better? You actually get to cross the border to Germany! The hike wouldn't be complete without the wonderful guide Vojta. He was thoughtful and informative throughout the whole trip.
I'm not an avid hiker but I thought it was a fairly easy hike. It was a shame due to the weather/season we were unable to do more things like see the gorge but it was amazing nonetheless!
Highly recommend, they know their stuff and got you covered.

Hi ! Such a cool review, thank you :)
The views are unlike any others, I find it the same way. Happy to see our guest liking the same stuff like locals do :)
The Gorges of Kamenice will be open again in April (Easter weekend), you are welcomed to come back and maybe try one of our summer tours.
Thank you for praising Vojta and our work in general. I am always happy to see a content traveler. Come back one day, please :)

We are considering booking this trip sometime at the end of November. Can anyone advise on if they recommend the trip at this time? Will the scenery be pretty or cold and bare?
Thank you!

I imagine that the deciduous trees will have shed their leaves, so the dominant trees will be the pine trees. Of course, the burn area around Schmilka will remain as a ghastly reminder of the recent fires. The rock formations are stunning and will always form an impressive backdrop to any hike into the hills. It will be cooler and possibly wetter, but it is a great contrast to Prague and lunch is excellent.
