The day starts with a briefing before a beautiful drive out to the village.  On arrival you will be welcomed and get dressed in appropriate attire.  Then its off to the fields and to the coffee plants.  You learn about the plants and how to select the right cherries and then how to harvest them. You will then fetch water or if you prefer you can head to the kitchen to help with food preparation.  Once the water is collected you will wash and pulp the coffee cherries and leave them out to dry. Lunch will be local Rwandan food that the family would normally eat. This is a good time to ask your hosts about life in their community. After lunch its time to hand roast and grind dried coffee beans using traditional tools. Once ground, the coffee is sieved to get the fine grounds to use for your cup of coffee. Then the moment we have all been waiting for you get to make the perfect cup of traditional Rwandan Coffee to enjoy with your new friends.

      Amazing family homestay experience
Wow! As a family with 2 kids (aged 17 & 14) we decided to include an Azizi Life homestay in our Rwanda holiday. We arrived to the new Azizi Life HQ in Muhanga in the afternoon, and were greeted by Bona (who was our guide and interpreter for the homestay). We instantly knew we were in very safe hands. We drove to the village about 20 mins, where we would be staying with Alice, Jacques and their 3 kids in the Abarikumwe cooperative. We also had 2 other ladies Flori and Sylverie stay with us. We did a brilliant village walk with lots of curious locals, we helped prepare traditional dinner of corns, potatoes, vegetables and uggani made with cassava flour. Hard work with very basic equipment, but very tasty! This is a truly authentic experience, no frills and extremely basic (no electricity and outside pit loo). But wow! What an opportunity, everybody was so welcoming and our kids enjoyed playing with the other kids. We sat around until midnight chatting with our hosts, with Bona doing a great job of interpreting. Lots of laughs and we shared some gifts we bought from UK. We slept in 2 rooms, with a mosquito net and enjoyed breakfast together next morning before saying our goodbyes. A night which none of us will ever forget!

      Fantastic Experience!
Amazing Rwanda cultural experience. I will never forget this. The people were welcome and friendly. They are all fantastic individuals. The dancing was fun. I did better at the drums than I thought. The teachers were awesome. They truly loved their heritage and sharing it with us.

      What an experience!
We spent a night and a day in the village. What an experience! The visit in the village gives an insight to the rural daily life in Rwanda. The women of the cooperative that hosted us where so friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed every minute of this unique experience. To get a better understanding of a place you should try to know the people and their way of life. Thank you Azizi Life for the opportunity. I fully recommend this experience.

      Sharing passions
I had the chance to live a day with a very skilled potter! I learned a lot about pottery making in Rwanda. We started the day by collecting clay directly in the closeby river and we then made an object I could choose. All along the day we were together with a facilitator (for translation). So we could exchange a lot! Finally we had lunch all together in our host familly. I would recommand this expericence to anyone, also if your not a great artist. There are many other options, and everyone at Azizi is so welcoming that your day is going to be amazing anyway! The plus: you can stay for the night in the brand new accommodation of AziziLife in Byimana.

      Amazing experience! 10/10 would recommend!
We had the best time. Everyone was so kind, the food was delicious, and the views were incredible. We stayed at Azizi Life all week and had a lovely experience- the accommodations were spacious and clean and the food was delicious! Everyone was so kind and the staff even made a birthday cake and sang to my friend on our last day.

One of my best experiences in Rwanda
I wasn't sure what to expect from this experience, but it was amazing and our hosts, Theogene and Rose could not have been more kind and welcoming. They patiently, and with good humor, walked us through all of the daily activites like cooking, hoeing, water gathering, feeding their animals and finally, learning the beautiful craft of sisal basket weaving. It was a day I will never forget and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to learn how the Azizi villagers actually live.

      Must experience
We had the best time! The ladies welcomed my husband and I with open arms. The experience we so never forget. It was my first time being in the village but with my husband it brought back memories. The juice was so tasty. Hard work payed off. The best part was dancing and laughing at the end.

      Great Day in the countryside
I had a great time doing the traditional Banana Juice in a village experience through Azizi Life. They were able to arrange transportation for me from Kigali (the village is about 90 minutes from Kigali) which was very helpful. I traveled solo and in a wheelchair. I didn't expect everything to be accessible to me. Although not wheelchair accessible the staff at Azizi Life made a way for me to participate in everything! Even when I thought something might be too much trouble they didn't so and made it happen! The women were wonderful. Me and a group of other tourists helped to make a delicious vegetarian lunch and we went through the whole process of making banana juice. We were warned not to drink until after boiling which they did for us back at the Azizi Life office where we were able to shop, have a cold Fanta and het our banana juice to take with us.

Banana Juice Making Experience in a wheelchair
I did the Banana Juice making experience with Azizi Life. I was able to arrange transportation through them which was very helpful as I was traveling solo and in a wheelchair. Although the house where the experience was held was not wheelchair friendly thanks to the staff of Azizi Life I did not miss out on any aspect, even when I thought I would have to they made a way for me and ensured that I was comfortable throughout the entire day. It was a great experience that I would recommend for others. Also, it felt good supporting Azizi Life knowing that they in turn supported the artisans that they partnered with.

      Wonderful opporunity!!
We participated in the Day in the Life of an Artisan, and the whole experience was fantastic and one that we will always remember. The women in the cooperative were open, generous, kind, fun, patient, and hard working. We saw how they work in the fields, cook their meals, wash their dishes, collect water, and make their crafts (and we participated!) . Theonaste was a wonderful interpreter and guide. We felt very privileged to have had this opportunity. Just one tip....Muhanga is about a 75 minute drive from Kigali, however Azizi Life also arranged a driver for us.

      An absolute highlight
I did the beehive and candle-making experience and absolutely loved it. You’ll be welcomed into a family home to experience segments of a working day. I found my host family to be kind and thoughtful. We asked each other questions and they wanted to see photos of my family... it was a really nice exchange. I learned a lot during the day - the beehive making itself was really interesting and something I might actually try and do myself! I think Azizi are doing something very special and give the experience my wholehearted recommendation.

      Intimate Cultural Experience
I had the chance to visit a local community and be hosted by one of the ladies for a short while. They gladly dressed me in their traditional attire, and showed the process of banana juice making. We also weaved and fetched the crops for the cow just like they do everyday! I had to balance the crops on my head and walk through a fairly rough terrain. The ladies were very welcoming, caring and patient to teach their skills It really was a great feeling to actually be part of their daily chores and walk in their steps. It really helped me connect and understand the simple basic life they live everyday, that many of us long for in city life

Welcoming and Insightful day with local artist cooperative
I spent the day with a women's cooperative group who make woven goods (baskets and jewelry) to sell. My excellent interpreter spent the day by my side, opening up a window into the daily lives of these great women. I helped with household chores like gardening, cooking and fetching water. After a local lunch we settled down to do some weaving. It was a humbling experience, as they are so quick and skillful! But they were patient and taught me and the afternoon was a big success!

I booked the Coffee Experience quite spontaneously the day before and I was very surprised that Jeannine was able to take care of my request so quickly since this would have been unthinkable back home in Europe!

I took the local bus from Kigali and was picked up by my tour guide for the experience, Theoneste, who was just awesome!
Together, we had a great time at the coffee plantation where I had one of my best days during my entire trip in Rwanda meeting wonderful and hard-working women who not just "had me over" for a visit but really welcomed me in their home and let me be a part of their family for the time of my visit!
I learned a lot about the journey of a coffee bean from the tree until it ends up in my cup.
I would totally recommend this experience to anyone who is a coffee lover and interested in rural Rwandan culture!
