What to expect
  • Skip the Line: Crypts and Roman Catacombs Tour (3.5 hours) Your afternoon tour starts by meeting your guide and heading outside the city center to the Appian Way, an ancient road that was once an important thoroughfare leading in and out of Rome. When you arrive at the Domitilla Catacombs (Catacomb di Santa Domitilla), sail past the entrance queue with your skip-the-line ticket, and descend into the tunnels with your guide. As you explore this subterranean burial site, learn about the funeral customs of Rome’s early Christians and how they used these chambers to worship in secret when Christianity was prohibited. Then travel to the Basilica of San Clemente, where you again have skip-the-line access to explore this unique church made up of three structures built on top of one another.  Your last destination is the Church of Santa Maria della Concezione, home to the Capuchin Crypts. Inside the crypt museum, you can see St Francis in Meditation, a painting by Caravaggio, as well as other artifacts related to Italy's patron saint, St Francis. Then enter the crypts themselves, where you’ll be perhaps awed, appalled, fascinated or revolted by a chapel made completely of human bones. Your tour ends outside the chapel. At this point you have about three hours of free time to have dinner on your own and relax however you wish before the second half of your Super Saver begins. Ghost and Mystery Walking Tour of Rome (1.5 hours) When the sun goes down on the city, start your evening tour of Rome’s ghostly sites at Sant’Andrea della Valle, a church near the Tiber River. Meet your guide and set off on foot to see the Eternal City’s famous landmarks under the enigmatic cover of night. Follow your guide along the historical center’s winding lanes, listening to spine-tingling tales about spirit sightings and eerie legends while you admire the illuminated cityscape. Walk by Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, through Campo de’ Fiori and past Palazzo Farnese, and stroll along Via Giulia and Via del Governo Vecchio on your way to Piazza Navona, one of the city’s liveliest squares. Your tour ends outside Castel Sant’Angelo, a daunting structure that was commissioned as a private mausoleum but has also spent time as a prison and a pope’s residence. Hear about its shadowy history before your guide bids you goodnight, leaving you at a central location to continue your night out in Rome on your own.

This was a tour we didn't know much about but very glad we booked it! Our tour guide for the morning was Andrea. He gave us so much info including a wide range of history on Rome in general which was the one thing we were missing on our trip! The last crypt was the coolest with so many bones! The ghost tour on the evening was lots of fun, our guide Matteo was super friendly and took us to lots of sight we would've missed otherwise and gave us some fun facts and stories that gives you a different perspective on Rome completely! A must do for some fun!

Me and my hubby went for his birthday to Rome. Andrea was well informed, explained well and is really passionate about his job. He answered any questions we had. The group wasn't too big and the bus had A/C! Overall a very fun and interesting experience. They also told us where to go to eat/drink.

This tour was part of our full day of tours; it was preceded by the early admission Sistine Chapel tour and followed by Ghost and Mystery walking tour.
It made for a full day but was worth it. This tour was for the Crypt and Catacombs. We were delighted that it also included a stop at Basilica Saint Clemente, which was not an advertised portion of the tour.
We met up with our guide, Asha, at Fontana del Tritone in Piazza Barberini, boarded busses, as the first portion of the trip to the catacombs was outside the city walls. As an additional bonus, we traveled down the Appian Way to the Santa Domitilla catacombs.
I can’t say enough about our guide ASHA. She was very informed, welcomed all questions and pointed out sights during our bus trip. She was a font of knowledge.
There is a NO PHOTOGRAPHY policy once in the catacombs. It is lighted, but still very dark, but is an amazing tour that provides a look into how ancient Christian burials were handled and the difference between the rich and the poor.
Then back on the bus for the trip back into the city and a stop at Basilica San Clemente to experience a time capsule from early roman time to present day in 3 levels. Then back on the bus, back to Piazza Barberini and the Church of Santa Maria Dell Concezione, home to the most odd, macabre, morbid but fascinating display of bones you will probably ever see. AGAIN, NO PHOTOGRAPHY policy enforced. After walking the crypts, the tour is over, you can visit the gift shop, and then you have about 3 hours until you meet your guide for the Ghost and Mystery Walking tour.
