About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- John B0 contributionsThe trip that didn’t happenThe night before we were due to travel we got a call to tell us the trip was cancelled by the operator. We were unable to book an alternative trip as they were already booked out. Refund was offered which we still waiting for and refund does not include the credit card fee - not a significant amount but indicative of the tour operators attitude to customer care. Asked why the tour was cancelled and given four different excuses by the various people we spoke with - mechanical issue, crew shortages, insufficient number booked and weather.Written October 10, 2024
- 410sharleene0 contributionsFantastic sailing adventure, great valueFantastic day trip sailing adventure suitable for the whole family. Those with sailing experience and first timers loved it! Good value for money with all snack, meals and drinks provided. Staff were fantastic organising the tenders to Whitehaven beach and the snorkelling. Best way to experience the Whitsundays.Written October 2, 2024
- KazdT3621YJ0 contributionsAvoidOur day consisted of spending 9-10 hours on the ferry due to engine break down. The atmosphere was a full ferry with people sick everywhere. Horrific experience with no management. Came all the way from Scotland to see the reef. Company not contactable to discuss compensation ignoring emails and phone. Some points throughout the day to provide feedback on: 1. Regarding the engine fault: The engine broke down not long after Hamilton island, but they got it working and kept going. This is after a puff of black smoke and sitting still for a prolonged period occurred. Clearly there were early signs of the engine’s faults. Why not turn back now and let us tourists at least have a day on a beach instead of risking what was to occur. Later as we approached the reef the boat was at stand still for hours. Later about 2pm they decided we would go into the reef with only one engine. Why was this decision not made earlier? This would have allowed us a) to get off the boat and b) if moved the boat further from the doc we could have got at least an hour or two of snorkelling in. Even the fact we were on the pontoon for 30 mins when there were clearly displayed signs for reef sleep guests saying they could snorkel from 3.30-5pm, why not let us day guests do at least an hour? There was no need to keep the boat in the doc, or leave straight away when the rescue boat came. Lastly, there are multiple reviews online about engine having issues clearly the company know about this, to set customer expectations and knowingly send out a boat with engine issues is both negligence of safety and totally irresponsible. 2. Staff experience on the boat There was a clear lack of organisation and communication. The staff were too busy gossiping to organise or manage the situation. When asked members of staff for updates/advice etc the answer was either ‘I’m part of the dive team i don’t know’ or ‘I don’t know there will be an announcement soon’ (which there was not for over 2 hours of standing still) A severe lack of boat management and announcements from the captain who I believe made very poor choices with dealings with the engine issues as stated in point 1. For example, there was one announcement about the boat stopping and they would let us know ‘what it’s all about’ after that no management or captain announcements for two hours. Leaving us in the dark all day about what the plan was including hearing all sorts of gossip from staff such as no boat would be here until 7pm and we were not going to make it to the reef There was no announcement for lunch. When we eventually got to the manager (who was treating the reef sleep guests to individual updates and briefings on the situation - a luxury not shown to the day guests) she was very nice and tried to help, i don’t fault her understanding it was not her fault or her authority to help us saying it was the reservations team. However I do feel like someone on board should have been given the authority to support guests, as of course when we got back to Airlie that evening no one was there to help us. Overall seemed to focus on nothing but up-selling but could not provide any information or own the part of managing the crisis. 3. Experience on the pontoon As stated above, it’s frustrating as to why things were not organised to ensure we all got a short snorkel in. Submarine no announcement it was going, huge unorganised queue with two prongs and no one managing it, approx one boat load of people missed out on it yet when asked staff which was the correct que a girl said ‘there both a queue’. Of course when boat came loads of people pushed and shoved to get one. One member of staff saying there would be another one, the driver clearly stating that was the last one. Another disaster. you would think you would have ensured we all got a go after the day we had. Later staff saying oh I had a great day I got to ride a submarine and see the reef to everyone upstairs. So un-tasteful to those of us who could not ‘push and shove’ families and kids out to the way to get on like others did. Again this would have been avoided if a staff member took ownership of organising the crisis.Written October 2, 2024

- hannahcS1393IO0 contributions10/10 experienceThis was amazing! We took our 2 year old with us on the full day cruise. She was able to snorkel out in the reef with us. Stinger suits and float vests were available for all of us including the 2 year old. Pool noodles were also supplied. We went scuba diving as well and also had a helicopter ride. Overall the cruise was fantastic and would come back again.Written September 29, 2024
- silrob20150 contributionsAwesome family day on the reefThe family had the best time on the reef. The staff were fantastic great service. I will definitely recommend anyone to experience the Great Barrier Reef tour.Written September 28, 2024
- rjjh20180 contributionsGreat trip, but dietary requirements not catered for.Great trip to Whitehaven beach and Hamilton Island loved the experience, even saw some Whales which was a highlight. I think you need to ask for people's dietary requirements I'm vegan and my husband vegetarian, we could not eat the sausages at the BBQ, instead were given a piece of bread with onion in it nothing else. At the lunch there was no vegan option, I eventually got a vegan burger and chips which was fine. We paid the same as everyone else to go on this trip and should receive the same value for money as everyone else. If you're not going to cater for everyone let us know, give us a discount and we'll bring our own food next time.Written September 25, 2024

- C8640OVkellyg0 contributionsVery disappointing, check reviews not the first time this has happenedSo so disappointed. Travelled to Hamilton island to experience the reef suite. Booked 6 months + in advance and it was cancelled the night before we were due to depart. No option to reschedule less than 6 months in advance. It was to be the highlight of our tripWritten September 20, 2024
- AussieFreeSpirit0 contributionsBig on the upsellWe did the full day tour to the reef with cruise Whitsundays. Not a great experience. They spent the majority of the 2 hour trip out to the reef trying to upsell various add ons like guided snorkel tours and helicopter flights. Unfortunately they didn’t bother to spend some time explaining their various rules about snorkeling at the reef eg must wear flippers, must only snorkel along the reef shelf. Therefore when everyone started to snorkel the staff were constantly setting off a loud horn because everyone was doing the wrong thing. It was very disruptive to the whole snorkeling experience. Why not stop upselling for 10 minutes during the trip out and let people know the rules and expectations? Surely most people would then understand and comply. The staff were ok but we certainly felt like we were being churned through a giant money making machine. We did another day trip with Explore and it was excellent. Very focused on the reef, the marine life and the guest experience.Written September 19, 2024
- paologS5584DR0 contributionswonderful places amazing guide top tour operatorwith my family we did three excursions starting from Hamilton Island and we had a great time. I went on a dive in the coral reef with Vivien, in 35 years of diving I have never had such a professional guide! After the dive he also spent a lot of time explaining all the species we had seen... sincerely many thanks! However, all the staff and equipment are of a high standard! I hope to return to you soon!Written September 11, 2024
- Curiosity395188040580 contributionsBelow average yourHonestly very dissapointed. I did alot of research about which company to go with and I have used cruise whitsundays before and had pleasant experience. Firstly , you spend approx 4 hours travelling , waste so much time I understand airlie isnt close but so unnecessary going to hamilton island on the way and on the way back , perhaps you could do airlie first on the way back to make it fairer as hamilton guests spend way less time on the boat and essentially use it just as a taxi . We had a “ mechanical engine issue “ about half way out to the reef. Do you think they told us anything ? NO. My partner was sea sick and freezing cold wanting to move to sit elsewhere and we were told as if we were children that the seat belt sign was on and we couldn’t move , ridiculous as we were stuck NOT MOVING . We weren’t told anything about what was going on other than one announcement saying they had issues , as such we were delayed and instead of arriving at 11 we arrived at 12 although the staff said we were only 20 mins behind , don’t know where they got that math from !! We were treated like school children not being able to move I understand if it was a safety thing but be kind to your guests ! Particularly if they were unwell and freezing whilst being told to sit . Secondly Elise my goodness as the cruise “ officer” she was appalling . I have never met someone so rude when looking after guests she clearly was stressed but being kind and reassuring would’ve gone a long way considering the issues had with the engine. Do not book with this company waste of time , they try and upsell you everything !! $30 for one single photo , $70 for “ guided snorkelling “ when we already paid $300 and they ran out of morning tea but kept rushing us to queue but when we got to the front they had run out ..Written September 9, 2024
- Julie P0 contributionsVery professional ServiceI cannot rate this company high enough, after staying on Daydream Island we went for a day trip over to Hamilton Island where hubby left his phone behind on a picnic table near the cruise reception. Some lovely person handed it in & contacted our daughter in Tassie who let us know it was missing - totally unaware at this stage. One phone call was all it took to the lovely lady at reservations in Airlie Beach and they arranged to send it over to Daydream on the next connecting ferry for hubby to pick up… so thankful for your fantastic service!! .. and the ferry trips where great too, very clean, professional and punctual😀Written September 8, 2024
- Badgersoutandabout0 contributionsA once in a lifetime day out! This was a fabulous day out! I ended up going solo as husband not well, so treated myself to the 10 min helicopter ride over Heart Reef - do staggeringly beautiful it made me cry! Initially 4 hours seemed a long time to be out there, but in the end I didn’t have time for the submersible! Not a confident snorkeller so signed up for the ‘guided safari’ and Amber was terrific, giving us almost an hour of fascinating snorkelling! Met some lovely friendly folk too. Thoroughly recommend.Written September 6, 2024
- 99johanr0 contributionsAmazing experienceAmazing experience to explore The Great Barrier Reef under the surface. The hotel pickup worked great with really friendly and professional drivers. The boat is big and stable so it handled even big waves quite smoothly. The Captain and the rest of the crew were skillful, helpful, knowledgeable and very friendly. The facilities on the boat as well as the Reef World platform were great. Wet suits, fins etc all well organized by sizes from where everyone could pickup the ones that fitted. We started by taking the semi-sub boat to explore the reef via the glass bottom of the boat. Already from there we could see many colorful fishes and the beautiful reef edge and got even more excited to go snorkeling 😉. After lunch, which was delicious, we jumped into the water for snorkeling🤿 . Such an underwater beauty all over the Hardy Reef and especially by the reef edge where the parrotfishes were eating corals🪸 so that you even could hear it 😉. Excellent snorkeling 👌We did two rounds of snorkeling, which was just about right timing, in my view. The boat ride home was also a smooth ride and when exiting the boat the whole crew were standing in a line, on shore, and greeting everybody. Excellent experience! Thank you! 🐟🐠🪸🎉Written August 28, 2024

Pretty average experience. Expecting more for the price. Lacking communication on all fronts.
Firstly the booking agent got my chosen tour wrong, I asked for full day Whitehaven and Hamilton island and they put me on half day trip.
I did not even know this until we were leaving on the boat, as I never received an email of the itinerary or booking confirmation.
Next, we spent 3 hrs on the boat 7am until 10am, due to multiple stops before our destination of Whitehaven.
Then once we got back to Hamilton Island we asked to move our ferry back to Airlie so we could stay for a few hrs, as I was expecting. Apparently that is not possible without paying a whole separate ticket - for the exact same trip (Hamilton Island to Airlie Port), just at a later time of the day.
The on board service was great, but your company has a ways to improving the overall customer experience as I rate this trip one of the lowest of any I’ve experienced.
Won’t be using your service again.

As per our recent email correspondence, I do apologise that your requested tour was booked incorrectly. We have had a number of new recruits and this was raised with the staff member in question.
I am sorry that you were disappointed in the Whitehaven Beach component of the tour, we do advertise this tour as a scenic cruise through the Whitsunday Islands with up to 6 hours on the beach. We are currently working on updating all collateral to make these stops and the journey time more transparent for guests.

What they fail to tell u while booking with the phone operator is that they drain the day by doing drop offs and pick ups at other islands before actually heading to whitehaven.
We left Port of Airlie at 11.30 and arrived at whitehaven just after 2pm. Spent a considerable amount of time picking up and dropping off and actually docking the boqt etc. I would choose a smaller company/boat that takes you straight there next time round personally and wouldn't book again with cruise whitsundays. Also for a company that charges as much as it does and sees so many tourists per day, you'd think arvo tea snacks would consist of more than 1 slice of cantaloupe, three grapes and a tiny muffin. Pretty embarrassing.
Unfortunately whitehaven looked nothing like it does in the photos. Could be due to the fact we saw it in rainy season but do bare that in mind for your trip if u do go in the wet season. Just Seemed like any other beach and definitely nothing special. Not any fault of the tour company ofcourse.
When compared to visiting other beaches in the pacific Islands and yes even in the wet season with rain, whitehaven sadly didn't come close to comparing.

I am sorry to read that you were not impressed with your Whitsunday Island and Whitehaven Beach half day tour Vaz B. Our brochure and website both list the inclusions of the tour as a Cruise through the Whitsunday Island and up to 2 hours on the beach, along with a map of the route that is taken. For afternoon tea, we are currently offering a sausage sizzle on the beach and fruit on the vessel on the return journey. I'm sorry if you missed the sausage sizzle.
I am disappointed that you were not impressed by Whitehaven Beach, it is regularly voted as one of the top 10 beaches in Australia with its beautiful white silica sand idyllic blue waters not quite as visible during the wet season but still beautiful.

Never one to write negative reviews but was in disbelief regarding my experience with this business. Booked for the Whitehaven Beach half day tour online and as required paid the full amount at that time via card. Cruise Whitsundays then took this money out of my account as expected.
The next morning recieved an email saying that I was required to make payment within 24 hours or I would lose my booking. Promptly called and spoke to a frankly unhelpful staff member. They stated that I needed to provide "proof" that I have paid. Never mind the fact that they were the ones who took it from my account? Offered to send a screenshot of my bank account to which they said if it says pending it doesn't count (even though practically all online purchases process for 3 to 5 business days). So despite the trip being in 2 days and them having already taken my money, there's no way of knowing whether we will actually be going.
Would never travel with this company again, but no point asking for a refund as I imagine I would never see my money.

Do not go with Journey beyond cruise Whitsundays.
A friendly, helpful driver picked us up from our resort at 6;20am and dropped us at the Airlie beach port terminal which didn’t open for 40mins and we stood outside freezing despite the staff sitting at their desks on the other side of the glass. Then we got given the day schedule from the terminal desk where we were essentially on the ferry boat.
It took us over 2 hrs to get to whitehaven beach as we had to drop off and pick up guests from daydream island and then Hamilton island and then whitehaven beach.
Morning tea was a tray of fruit and yoghurt after people had been vomiting everywhere because the sea was so rough. Very disappointing choice of food- muffins or quiches which was something of substance could have been offered.
We got 2.5 hrs on the beach then turned around and had to do the same trip back but we had to actually get off the boat at Hamilton, line up and get on another boat. This took us again over 2 hrs to get back.
No lunch provided which we knew about but the full day guests were getting lunch on the beach and that could have been offered as an upgrade possibly.
We snacked on junk food all day via the kiosk on the boat. There could have been more options for this as well.
I get it for the price that’s what we paid for but it was so not worth spending essentially 4.5 hrs on a rocky boat. Luckily no one in our group vomited but for future guests, I would suggest they do a private tour where you can go straight to the island. And ask in advance exactly what is included in the tour.

I am sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your trip. The morning cruise to Whitehaven Beach offers the scenic route via Daydream Island and Hamilton Island to collect other guests who can be on a transfer or travelling on the same tour. The second vessel you take to return to Port of Airlie departs shortly after your arrival into Hamilton Island and does offer complimentary tea and coffee for the duration of the voyage. Lunch is not a listed inclusion on this tour, however we do offer sandwiches and snacks for purchase. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at Cruise Whitsundays by emailing info@cruisewhitsundays.com if you feel that the information you received regarding the listed inclusions was misleading and we can look into rectifying to prevent future confusion.

My first ever bad review here, sadly.
Whilst we had a great time on Whitehaven Beach I have a major issue with how this is being sold. We arrived expecting a nice informative cruise around the islands, but this was something very different. It is a ferry service. We made two stops on the way to Whitehaven to pick up other passengers & even had to change boats on the way back!
I have attached a photo of the itinerary so anyone viewing this knows what they are signing up for.
Other than that, it was a good experience but we would have booked with.
Avoid this company if you want a true informative cruise.

Thank you for your feedback. Cruise Whitsundays is the only company that offers tours departing and return from Airlie Beach, Daydream Island and Hamilton Island, I am sorry if this impacted your experience. During the cruise to Whitehaven Beach guests have the option to relax in the air-conditioned cabin or in the sea breeze on the back deck. While travelling to Whitehaven Beach all our vessel have access to toilets, a fully licensed bar, morning and afternoon tea. On approach to Whitehaven, you can enjoy commentary about Whitehaven Beach’s bright white 98% pure silica sands and how it be came to be so, I am sorry if you missed this.

A brilliant cruise from Airlie beach to Whitehaven beach. We went on the afternoon cruise leaving 11.35am on the ferry to Hamilton Island, changed boats for the Seaquest for the rest of the trip. Lovely cruise to Whitehaven with free tea and coffee all day. Landed there (dry) with a great choice of optional activities included. Equipment was provided for cricket, football, paddleboards, bodyboards, pop up tents for shade, stingersuits for swimming. A gazebo had been set up on the lovely silica beach with a bar. There was also a bar on the boat. On the return journey light refreshments were served of sweet cakes and savoury nibbles. We were particularly impressed that they provided a wheelchair with sand tyres for a disabled guest and the crew could not have been more helpful or more friendly. The trip was superb value for money and a perfect way to cruise the Whitsundays. Highly recommended.

I strongly recommend considering alternative options if your primary goal is to visit Whitehaven Beach, as the following scenario may occur: After checking in, you settle into the ferry, the doors close, and then the captain announces a change in destination due to weather conditions, redirecting the ferry to another beach instead of Whitehaven. They do not disclose this information before check-in, preventing refund requests. Even if they do mention it later, refunds are not provided, as stated in their terms and conditions. This unfortunate experience happened to us on December 24, 2023, during our Christmas trip. We were taken to a modest beach, much less appealing than the one near our hotel on Hamilton Island. My lawyer and I are pursuing this matter with QCAT and are waiting for other travelers from that day to join. Unlike other services on Hamilton Island, this provider seem rather unreliable

We understand the disappointment of having your scheduled itinerary varied due to Northerly Winds resulting in visiting an alternative beach of Whitsunday Island. As is our normal procedure all guests are advised at the time of check in that there is a possibility of a different beach being visited due to not being able to safely land on Southern Whitehaven Beach, this is not always know at the prior to the travel day. When there is availability the option to change dates is always offered, however as you were travelling in the peak school holiday period we were fully booked. Cruise Whitsundays terms and conditions do have the clause that we do reserve the right to alter inclusions or itineraries if deemed necessary.

We booked this tour as all other full days tours with other companies were cancelled due to the weather. The crew was very good at helping people with sea sickness and the afternoon snacks were good. However the tour only allows for a short time on the beach (as stated in the listing) and goes to the South side of the beach. Would recommend booking a full day tour that goes to the Hill Inlet side of the beach to make the most out of your money. Still very glad we got to experience Whitehaven!

Terrible experience. High winds generated very rough seas. The ride to Whitehaven Beach for my wife and small children was horrendous. We were informed later that day that other tour operators had cancelled, but our operator appeared to have less consideration for its customers and was more focused on the vessels capabilities of making it through (the captain repeatedly said that 'we shouldn't worry, the boat can handle it', but unfortunately many passengers couldn't. The trip out ruined the period on Whitehaven Beach as it took a long time for members of my family to recover). More warnings should be given prior to the journey for young families and/or people that suffer motion sickness.

At Cruise Whitsundays, safety is our number one priority. Unfortunately, the weather is out of our control, which is one reason we ask our guests to reconfirm your booking prior to travel. We can usually offer an alternative date or tour(pending availability). I am sorry that you suffered motion sickness and I ask that next time you travel, you contact us directly to reconfirm.

This half-day tour was a problem from the start. The tour itself was a 4hr one but we were taken to two stops like a ferry service, first to Diamond island and then Hamilton where we had to change the vessel to go to White Haven beach. On the way back we again made these two stops. It was tiring and long. As a result we spent a total of 7 hrs of a day, of which we got to spend only 1.5 hours on the White Haven Beach.
The company is selling this as a half-day tour with an afternoon tea but it technically made the passengers sit for a total of 7 hrs. The two stops and change of vessel made it a very very tiresome trip which was absolutely not worth the effort or money. We did not know about these number of stops and weren't adequately equipped with food supplies. As we had kids in the group, this was a huge issue. I wish we had known this before as we would not have chosen this trip or the company for the White Haven experience.

I am sorry that you did not enjoy your tour .
The half day tour is advertised as including a scenic return cruise through the Whitsundays, with up to 2 hours at the southern end of Whitehaven Beach. All start and finish times are also advertised.
Afternoon is a listed inclusion, however as the tour does commence at 11:35am additional food and beverage are available for purchase on our vessel.

With the cabana hire option, what does that involve? Are we just given the cabana to set up ourselves wherever we want on the beach or is it pre-set up by staff for us to enjoy in a pre determined part of the beach?

Can you let me know if you are able to avcomodate vegan and vegetarian diets for the morning/afternoon tea please? Thank you

The morning tea was not the highlight of the trip-there was some fruit but you'd be better taking your own I think-which is what I would do next time. Trip was fabulous-food not so!

Just wondering if anyone knows if I can bring an 8 month old and 3 year old?

Hi, There were plenty of younger children on the trip we took to Whitehaven. I don't think you will have any trouble. Our boat ran right up to the beach and lowered a ramp so access was easy. There isn't much shelter on the beach (small shrubs) so you may want to have some shade for the youngest one.

I see when trying to book it includes children from 5 and up. Does this mean children under 5 are not permitted?
